Default Dunno if I should get a SNES or not

I kinda want one, and there's one available at Game Crazy, but a part of me is like "save all that money and use it on something else."

I duno. I guess I'm just asking for stories and/or a list of your favorite SNES games. If I get one I'm sure I'd buy a lot of games but I already have a lot of (largely) unplayed video games sitting around the house that "I swear one day I'll get to."

Sure it'd be nice to own games like Super Mario World, Mario All-Stars, Ken Griffey Baseball, Contra III, Super Metroid and whatnot, but will I have time to play these games? I'm not sure.

I was standing there pondering the thought today, and I just couldn't bring myself to buying a SNES for $29.99

BTW, what is the "average going" price of a Super Nintendo?

There's one at my local flea market I could maybe buy for you. The guy behind the booth only really sells his stuff for like 5 bucks top.

The SNES is hailed by many as the greatest system ever. I do not know how valid this statement is, however it is one fine piece of gaming machinery. There are many great games for it and I feel, as a gamer, you will truly be able to appreciate them. So, I say you should definitely buy it.

$30 sounds rather reasonable if it included all hookups, a controller, and shows no signs of aging (yellowing, dents, etc).

pros: excellent colors, great software (both 1st, 2nd, and 3rd party), cheap games (not very many high-priced games that are worth playing imo), varied and large library, games are very available in the wild.

cons: slow - freaking - down - central...like half the games exhibit at least some slowdown, plenty of crap games (but this is the case with all large libraries), games tend to be overpriced ($15 for super mario world at a game shop anyone?) (i know this seems contradictory, but snes has both cheap games and over-priced ones at the same time...due to it's popularity), censorship.

get it $30 is reasonable, but you could hit up the bay, pay $40 and get some starter games with it instead.

i bought one about 6 months ago, hated the damn thing, the slowdown pissed me off, but i was already spoiled by the neo geo, so i guess that could have something to do with it. only games i enjoyed for it were clayfighters tournament, super mario world, and bust a move.

The SNES has more good games than you can shake a stick at, man. Get one already. :P Even if you don't have time for it right away, I'm sure you can make enough time eventually to get your money's worth out of it with at least one game.

If u have a computer with at least a pentium 2 processor its sooo much easier to just get an emulator the Zsnes is the best in my opinion.
heck u could probably get an old pentium 2 PC for about the same price as the SNES.
after I found the wonderful world of emulation I havent bought one cart game or system.
Now I only buy Dreamcast or up.
its just to easy to download an old 8-bit or 16-bit game and then erase it after a couple days if u want or keep it if u have an old copy in the closet.
Now they even have good N64 emulators.
but if u are a collector I would say go ahead and get it since I have seen very few good Snes systems in my area.

Oh come on now, Steven, you know you want Tetris 2! I've never played it yet myself, but it's certainly on my list! There's tons of great puzzlers for the SNES that were never released on any other consoles, so if you're into other puzzle games besides Tetris, there's alot to choose from. I didn't get my SNES until DKC came out, but I had always wanted one before then. And when I finally got it and saw how great all the games were for it, I was wondering why the heck I waited so long to get one. It's a great system! Just buy it, and quit talking yourself out of it, you'll be totally glad you did!

hey max the original copys ARE THE ROMS my friend
anyway most of the old 8-bit stuff is no longer copyrighted righted alongside the old turbographix and the majority of the Genesis stuff.
The only ones who may care if u have a rom downloaded to your computer might be Nintendo since they are the only ones who ever really had any stance on emulation.
    Sega never really cared.
Anyway do you really think that Atari or whatever company that holds the copyright to the name Atari (infogrames or whoever the hell it is) really cares if someone has a Jaguar emulator and all the games to play on said emulator?
Like they are going to hunt u down becuase your playing some old games on an obsolete unsuccesful system cmon
now im sure it would be a different story if you were copying PS2 or Xbox games and then selling them or some shit like that but playing old 10-25 year old games on your computer is a different story.

Oh Sega does...there's a few roms out there banned by the ISDA and especially Sega CD ISO's

Yet not as many as SNES...and Nintendo going on a rampage stopping every single fami-clone being sold in American malls

thats right super i agree with you totally.
For the simple fact is that once u get into CD games especially those made within the last 10 years or so many ARE still copyrighted. but if u go to the right sites they will notify you wich are still protected by the ISDA and wich are not
anway CD or especially DVDs take waaaay to long to download unless you have broadband and even then I wouldnt bother.
thats why I collect DC to Xbox.
because it will be a loong time before you will have simple easy to use emulators for the Gamecube,PS2 or Xbox if ever.

What about when said PS2 and XBox games are compilations of those 10-25 year old games on your computer?

Aussie2B has a very valid question heres a quick if not thorough explanation: thats a perfect example why Nintendo still has all the old Mario games copyrighted and are still protected by the ISDA.
but even if a company does release a compilation of some sort it doesnt always mean that they took the time or effort to update the copyrights and many games that are on compilations today are not protected by the ISDA even though the names and trademarks are still owned by whatever company purchased them.
