Default resident evil 2 - which version is better n64 or PS1?

    Hi,

Pretty self-explanatory topic here. Which version is better and why?

    PS1 Dual Shock version

Why? Because Battle EX Mode is in the PS1, which was removed from the N64 due to cart space...plus you get Hunk and Tofu games on top of that

The N64 version left out the final soundtrack when you finish Game B of Leon or Claire.

The only pro about having the N64 cart, is both sides of the story are on the cart, plus you get the bonus Hunk and Tofu games (when you unlock them)...plus a randomizer mode once you finish the game...which re-arranges the items and such to give you better replay value. Yet if you want smoother graphics, your gonna need the Expansion Pak. Looks real nice, but the N64 gives off that blur z-buffering effect still

Plus you don't need a memory card for the N64 version (RAM save), while the PS1 needs it

Also, the N64 version you can change the color of the blood, plus brand new "EX-Files" hidden through out the game (Giving out cool details on the entire RE story line from RE1 to Code Veronica)...brand new costumes totally different then the PS1 version

Yet I feel you get better gameplay out of the PS1 version "Dual Shock Edition", just because of the extras...in EX battle Mode, one of the hidden characters is Chris Redfield...

But the N64 version has better graphics also. Read on:

    http://ign64.ign.com/articles/160/160798p1.html

That's why I just bought it over the PSX version. If I'm gonna' play the original versions of RE2 (not the GCN "port" which didn't add next to anything to the game as opposed to a "remake") I want it to look as good as it can.

Now I'm just debating over what's the best version of Nemesis to buy. Hmm.. probably looked best on the PC as opposed to PSX.

Dreamcast version is very good as well, adding in an Art Gallery (But it's actually a PC Port)

But yes, the N64 version does have polished up graphics, just the pre-rendered backgrounds looked washed out

The N64 version is by far the better version, although the PSX Dual Shock rerelease EX Mode is cool. On the N64 version the entire game is on one cart no annoying disk swapping is needed, you can save much faster right onto the cart no need for an annoyingly slow memory card, the game has a whole bunch of cool features that no other version has including the somewhat barebones GCN rerelease(PSX port, the cheap stupid bastards at Capcom, RE 2 was the most popular one!) the graphics do look a little washed from time to time but to be honest the PSX version always looked a little pixleized and overdrawn. The game runs in high resolution mode when run with the expansion pack which isn't needed to play and it still looks better without it. Contrary to popular belief the game is copmplete and has all the prerendered effects and video that the PSX version has and all the sound although I'm not 100% sure about that as Ghouls 'N Ghosts mentioned earlier. I didn't think you could pull off a complete game with cinematics and everything on an affortable N64 cart but Capcom did it. The fact that this was done at all at an affortable cost is simply amazing and is one of the greatest achievements in video gaming history.

The best version of RE 2 even though I don't like to admit it as the PC and Dreamcast versions should be the best is the Gamecube version of the game because it looks the best in that version with the true high resolution graphics, it has fast saving and loading, the improved sound and the fact that its on one disc which can't be said about any of the other versions except the N64 version even though Capcom should have remade it as it would have sold very well and the Gamecube rerelease was way too expensive for what it is.

Actually you are wrong....all the video and prerendered effects are in the N64 version....the only thing MISSING in the N64 port, is the final soundtrack when you complete Leon B game or Claire B Game while the credits are rolling...plus Tofu's ending is missing (Picture of Hunk eating a chunk off of Tofu's head while he lays there in the helicopter)

Lemme also add this, you can play the N64 with or without the expansion pak, but for a nice looking picture, the Exp Pak is nice.

affordable, not really, the cart was released at $49.99 upon release while the PSX version was at $19.99

Now it's cheaper then a nice copy of the PSX version...which is odd, but oh well.

Furthermore, it is amazing how they pulled it off

Plus the Cube version is a very nice touch to do the same thing the N64 version did, combine both into a single disc

I prefer the DC version even if it is "just a PC port" it has many extras not in the original PSX ver.
The N64 ver looked good though and I was impressed that they retained just about everything that was in the PSX RE2.

RE2 is my LEAST favorite RE anyway

I went back and did some checking of my own and yes you were right originally it is missing that audio which is too bad and I didn't know Tofu's ending was different but I'll take your word for it. Aside from those two things this is a perfect release of this game and I'm still not fully sure how they were able to fit 1.4 GB of data or so onto an 85 MB or so cart..

I prefer the DreamCast one to any of them. Apart from the fact that the control method is pretty messed around with.

The DreamCast version has some cool aditional secret stuff too, which I think the N64 has a few of.

The GameCube version is also pretty good as well, although I can't exactly see the point of them releasing it for the N64, and then the GameCube...

Shame they never did a remake of it. Stupid of Capcom really, as the remake of the original was so cool... I think they shoud've carried on with the other three - At least the next two anyway (As Code Veronica was pretty sound)

Cube version, you can change the color of the blood, just like the N64 version...plus I think it has the randomizer mode just like the N64...but this one brings back the Battle Mode EX

Now that I agree, Resident Evil 2 was the main reason RE became such a mainstream title imho, it really kicked down the barriers of "Voice acting" in most games...so serious compared to part 1....and I felt RE2 deserved a remake MORE so then any other (Besides part 1)

I just found out something interesting. Prior to the Gamecube version of RE 2 which isn't just port as I've been researching it, every version of RE 2 runs at 15 FPS(Frames per Second), even the PC version. The Gamecube version runs at 60 FPS making it by far the best version. The Gamecube version also isn't sensored like all the other North American versions were previous to its release. Well I find this interesting anyway.

I find it very hard to believe that the PC version has a max of 15 fps. RE1 was slighty censored and eventually re-released with all the missing zombie chewing action thus we have RE: Director's Cut. No RE2 was not censored in any way.
