heres my problem.
I downloaded the MAME and ROM in jibba's post.
I extracted the ROM files to the ROMS folder in MAME.
IT CANT FIND THE ROM.
kthxbye.
Take all the files and put them in their own directory. For instance, for Galaga, the directory would be:Originally Posted by kamino
C:\MAME\roms\galaga\
then, when you do your command line execution, just run:
mame galaga
The reference to "Galaga" on the command line tells MAME that all the ROM files are in the galaga directory. That's why MAME can't find your game right now - it's looking for a directory called "galaga" where the ROM files are stored.
Hope that makes sense

HOW TO GET THINGS RUNNING...
Download MAME32 v0.95 from the link supplied in the FIRST POST of this thread.
Unzip that and it will create a folder called Mame32.
Inside there there will be a /roms folder.
Place the ZIPPED download of the Galaga rom (supplied in the FIRST POST of this thread) in the /roms folder.
Run Mame32.exe and it will purge all the roms (only finding 1, Galaga {"Namco rev. B" in this case}).
In the leftmost window of Mame32 click where it says "Availble" and the Game list will change from EVERY game in the collective to just the ones you have. Again, currently Galaga (Namco rev. B).
Double click "Galaga (Namco rev. B) to start.

I tried to make that as simple and step by step as possible so anyone confused can figure out how to get things working.
If you are running an older version of MAME (my main install on this system is v0.77 and my cocktail is being built around v0.76) then the supplied rom will probably not work. Somewhere around v0.90 or so there were a lot of changes to the emulator which effected it's compatibility with the older romsets / compatibility of the newer romsets with the older versions of MAME. (I'm not talking about the changes to how .CHD files are handeled, that was somewhere around v0.80 if I remember correctly)
kamino is probably having the same problem as I did, getting the suppled rom to work with an older already installed version of MAME. You need to download the suppled version of MAME (current MAME32) linked in the FIRST POST. Just put it in a seperate location from your main older MAME install if you don't feel like upgrading what you already have. Then you can compete in the compeition using the alternate install and not have to worry about an existing installation getting messed up. (what I'm doing)
UPDATE:
I'm retarded.
I extracted the files into the ROMS directory. I didn't know to leave it ZIPped.
Bummer, dude. now i gotta go play galaga.
Don't unzip the rom. Just put the zip file in the ROM folder.Originally Posted by kamino

The first official release was MAME 0.1, which was released on the evening of February 5th, 1997 (23:32 +0100). Using a modular and portable driver oriented architecture with an open source philosophy, it soon grew into immense proportions. The current version supports 5578 ROM sets, 3083 unique games. Because MAME releases happen whenever they are ready, at one point the wait between new versions was almost 4 months. To help the agony of the users, a public beta system was used, with a beta release happening every 2-3 weeks on an average. However, now the beta designation has been removed in favor of a good old 0.xx version number.
Even though MAME allows people to enjoy the long-lost arcade games and even some newer ones, the main purpose of the project is to document the hardware (and software) of the arcade games. There are already many dead arcade boards, whose function has been brought to life in MAME. Being able to play the games is just a nice side-effect. The huge success of MAME would not be possible without the talent of the programmers who joined to form the MAME team. At the moment, there are about 100 people on the team, but there is a large number of contributors outside the team too. Nicola Salmoria is still the coordinator of the project."

BUMP! 4 hours left! If you have not yet submitted a score, you should do so soon!
Also, I updated the prize listings. They just get better and better. And before this contest is over, the prize packages will be even bigger!!!
Chris
What's the acceptable format for the screenshots? MacMAME uses .png when making screenshots. Is that ok?
.png is just fine. I have recieved your e-mail with high score and screenshot.Originally Posted by Lady Jaye

OK I know I said that the scores were due by midnight EDT, but I thought about it and that isnt very fair to us west coasters. Thus I will just say that they are due tonight. Whatever is in my inbox when I wake up in the morning will be accepted. This will be the case for all future submissions as well. Therefore if I say that the score for game X is due on Thursday night, then I will accept whatever scores are in my email inbox when I wake up on Friday morning.
Chris
Oh, NOW you tell me!
Crap, I just submitted mine cause I thought I would'nt have any more time to play.
Oh well. Thanks for the info for later, though.
