Default commodore 64 games, whats the story?

I was at a boot sale yesterday, and this guy had a commodore 64 , and 100 games, i bought the lot of him for £10 which is roughly $18, was it a good deal?,
i did notice a couple of ultima games and jet set willy, james pond, gauntlet, a few of which i think are pretty rare.

You know its a good deal, why ask?
The machine is worth more than £10 itself.

I would say it's a good deal (assuming all the games are originals -not copies- and are complete in box with manual). And besides, it's only £10. I don't think there is really a market for C-64 games though, except for the Ultima games. Some of those might be worth £10 by themselves if they are complete with box, maps, instructions, etc. etc.

    Cheers,
    Raymond

well the commodore 64 does not have the tape thing with it, you know to play the games, so i can't check them out, which is a shame, cause i would love to play jet set willy one more time.

I recently found a Commodore 64 with disk drive, one cartridge game, and a bunch of diskette games for $15 at a thrift store.. I was surprised to find that it worked. Many of the diskette games came with the box and manual.. and it came with the manual for the Commodore, and the disk drive.
I thought it was a good deal

Not as far as i know (maintaining that would be quite the task since there are so many games released) but in my opinion for 99.99% of the games i guess £1/$1/€1 would be a fair price...

The Dizzy Games are worth a little bit...
Also id say the Sega ones in the slightly larger cases are...

Elite goes for a lot as it is a game that started off alot of people into the gaming world as it was revolutionary at the time!

This shop should give you an idea on pricing

Damn...for that price and that many games....you have to grab it. There's so much gaming goodness to be had on that machine it's crazy. If you don't get into it, I'm sure you can make a profit on the machine and that many games.

10 sounds about right unless the games were boxed/complete. People in the states generally give their diskettes away, and a loose C64 system runs between $15 and $20.

I've been slowly collecting boxed C64 games and that's strictly for nostalgia and display purposes. I don't *expect* them all to work.

well after checking them, 89 of them are boxed and complete with instructions, then theres a few without boxes, or have a box thats damaged etc,

plus the 64 system is an old one, and the power supply was with it, and the light comes on when i plug it in, so that should be okay as well.

It was some hassle getting that lot home, but i'm real happy with it. Mind you the missus gave me a funny look as i came in the door, with all these games

Finding a datasette shouldn't be hard as they are all over eBay etc. You said Ultima games came with it? Considering they were disk only, was there a disk drive with what you bought, or would you need to get that also?

Sling me a PM or post it here of the games and I can take a look at them (and see if I need any!).

    Default C64

    Hmm

At one point I remember commodore laying claim to having more systems in homes around the world than every other computer combined. But half of them were sitting in closets

I was an atari person during the 8bit heyday but I had to pick up a C64 for one game.

Moondust by Jaron Lanier. Excellent trippy strange game that looks so good on a 36 in TV ..

I find that almost all of my C64 cassettes have died but most of the disks still work.

Even if they were non-original disks (cracked games, demos, other non-commercial stuff), the lot would have been worth $18. I used to have almost 700 copied disks, and if I had the storage space I'd quickly amass a large collection again (because, while 700 may seem like a lot, I'll guarantee you there were plenty of people who had over 1000).

"The Story" if you will, is that the C64 (and it's Atari cousin) aren't really collected by as many people as the consoles are. As such, in the wild, you tend to find stuff cheaper, if you can find it at all. At least, it seems that way to me.

(I've purchased a model II C64 and disk drive at a thrift for $3 *total*, whereas they'd put $5 on a Genesis without any cables).

If you were buying the stuff to make dough off of it I'd be careful for that same reason. There just aren't as many buyers.
