3.8mm NES Gamebit Wrong Size? PLEASE HELP!

About a year ago, I bought a NES and SNES gamebit pair off of Ebay. At first I used the SNES gamebit on my SNES and SNES games. It fit the security screws perfectly, but it was a little bit of a tight fit inside the plastic hole in the SNES and cart cases.

This brings me to today, when I first tried out the NES gamebit. It is just a bit too big to fit inside the plastic cart holes, so it can't reach the actual screw! First off, aren't all of these gamebits the same, or are some better than others? Where can I buy one that is the correct size to use with NES game carts? The plastic bag that my security bit came in says 22-1145, which is the MCM part number for the security bit.

You definitely have the right bit. Some of the holes are a really tight squeeze, but they will always fit; you just have to force it in. And sometimes you have to put a lot of pressure on your screwdriver in order to get the bit to 'bite' on the security screw. I haven't found a licensed cart that I couldn't open yet. Try harder...

Agreed! The gamebits for NES carts will work, but they are always a really tight fit! You gotta push it down in there sometimes to get them to work. But they will work! Just keep Mr. Morbis! Good Luck!

Well, I noticed it was scraping the sides of the hole, so I stopped trying to use it. I didn't want to damage the cart. It was also very difficult to get the bit out of the hole. If I kept going, it might have been permenantly stuck.

But I guess if you guys have a similar problem, then I will just have to try again with a few other carts. If I still have problems, I will try to buy another bit... maybe mine is a dud.

If you have a dremel, and something to secure the bit with, you could always try grinding down more of the bit.

i had exactly the same problem, i spent an hour filing down the edges of the bit so it works now. you really need a dremel and an emery bit.

I am hoping that some good sand paper and a little work will be all that I need to shave off a milimeter of the bit. That is really all that I need. A milimeter might even be too much.

I'd say a grinding wheel is the way to go.Just spin the bit between your fingers as you put light pressure on the wheel.Should only take a few seconds.

I just had to do this last weekend. Some sandpaper and about 10 minutes i had a working 3.8mm bit
