I played only three versions of Tetris - the two NES versions (Nintendo and Tengen) and for the SNES.

I'll go for the SNES version. Nice music selection, some variations in gamemodes, and, yes, the GRAPHICS, oh GOD, the GRAPHICS are so much improved.

Best home version? Easily The New Tetris. The block physics, three piece look ahead, shadow, scoring system, one piece hold, and multiplayer were all totally ace and it's a damn shame the game is so often overlooked.

I didn't much care for the music, though...especially compared to Tetrisphere's music. TNT's soundtrack is just annoying in comparison. It also takes a while to get used to the level progression system since it's totally different from the rest of the Tetris games.

Best overall is a tossup, though. I love me some Tetris Grand Master. There's really not anything bad I can say about the Grand Master series other than it sucked far too much money from me in the arcades. Everything was shit hot... graphics, control, block physics, difficulty, etc. It's in MAME and Zinc so that you can get a taste test of it in case your arcade doesn't have it, and I can't recommend it enough.

I hope Arika decides to port Tetris Grand Master 3 to the Playstation 2. It's a damn shame they never ported the first two games, and given how the other Type X games are making it to home consoles, it only makes sense for them to bring out TGM3 as well

There's videos of all three Tetris Grand Master games here

Never really understood the love for Tetris DX. The game was buggy and broken Wall climbing was lame and the scoring system was too different from GB Tetris'. Also don't really understand the love for Tengen Tetris...the game feels really rough around the edges, almost like a piece of beta software. Sure, it was fun when I was younger, but there are so many drastically superior versions of Tetris out now... (ie. alost all of them)

Nintendo's version will always be my favorite. How many of these threads have we had? And every time I have to defend my favorite against the substantially overrated Tengen version. I don't give a crap about multi-player, so I am perfectly happy with the better looking Nintendo one.

The music. The colors changing with each level. Always been my favorite. Always will be.

Gameboy Tetris was my favorite by far. It was the first one I played and I played it all the time. Awesome game.

    Pack-in Tetris for the GB.

I also did not care for Tengen Tetris.

Nintendo's NES Tetris, hands down. It's what I grew up playing (as a family we'd take turns playing it, much like I remember doing with Q*Bert for Colecovision), so anything else seems just not quite the same.

I think the "Tetris & Dr. Mario" SNES version is the best. I've played the NES Nintendo Tetris and the original Game Boy Tetris but never the NES Tengen version. Is there any newer version of Tetris than you can play 4-player? I bought Tetris Worlds but that game was terrible.
