I'm moving to Winnipeg and will be looking to get a gaming night and possibly trade/sale type stuff goin on. I'll be settled and available after Oct 1. Anyone in the area? If so you on Xbox Live too? What's the game hunting like? Any arcades?

hi there. i know there are collectors around here and there from winnipeg but they don't post regularly. i wouldn't mind a trade/sell get-together actually. game hunting is alright, you can find stuff like nes, snes, genesis easily but anything older beyond the most common games are rather hard to find. there are some arcades, in places like bars, etc.
Until I get the rest of my stuff moved (at least a few years) I'm prolly not gonna have much to trade but... If you and any other folks you know would like to get somethin goin as far as hunting/playing that would be awesome. I have no idea where the hell the grocery store is let alone where to find games
I'll have NES, PSP, DS, Xbox, and GC with me. Mainly be looking for NES stuff and surely looking to do some multiplayer with the handhelds![]()

Yeah, I'd be up for some hunting/trading/multi-player type stuff. Like Psuedonym said, the neo classics tend to be fairly easy to find, I've never had a lack of SNES, NES or Genesis games to buy, Saturn on the other hand.... Anyways as far as Arcades go, there isn't much I know about, I know there is or at least used to be one called Magic Land on Portage, I really only swing by the one in St. Vital Centre though.
Man I'm just thrilled to know there is life for a collector in Winnipeg. I know some places are just plain dead as far as hunting goes.
So what are prices like for NES/SNES/Genesis stuff? In Pittsburgh they typically go for $1-5 USD (complete Genesis, loose NES/SNES) and $5-20 for the more popular titles and RPGs. Talkin to a lotta folks over the years made me realize things are actually pretty cheap here compared to the rest of the game collecting world :/

Umm, depends Genny games I've found tend to be about $5 complete, NES games I rarely see over $10 loose or complete other than the popular titles such as Zelda and Final Fantasy and such. SNES I've found vary quite a bit, from $5 and under, to up to $20 or $25, generally though at most of the pawns and games shops I frequent they average $10 a piece or so.
pawns are kind of dry now, but they tend to price things cheaply. flea markets are alright, average prices, and game stores tend to be on the higher side.
What Flea Market are you going to? I haven't gone to one in ages and would like to go out to one occasionally.
there are four that i know of but they are pretty dry too.
the one on mandalay has three or four people that sell misc. classic games stuff. mostly people that have been there for awhile but they tend to price based on ebay. you can find the guy beside the door and the women in the far corner. you can find decent/good deals if you don't mind digging a little.
the one on mulvey has two people that sell old games but there have been several people that come periodically that have a lot of good stuff and then disappear next week. check the middle aisels often, that's where the new sellers tend to be.
there's another one on ellice but that one isn't that good game-wise. there used to be an old woman there with atari stuff but she left.
Thanks a lot.
God I haven't hit a flea in forever. Sounds like a good idea an thanks for the info man!
So I'll be in Winnipeg by next Sunday (the 25th). Gonna get settled in then perhaps try to get a gaming session or soemthin goin for whoever would be interested. Right now I can't do much aside from play games cause I screwed my shoulder up pretty good and have my arm in a sling. Tore ligaments (permanant damage), pulled muscles, slight dislocation. Haven't had time to log in here an see if anything was goin on with this thread cause I've been packing the last of my stuff with one armOf course my first priority upon arrival is to set up the small bit of my collection that's there and that will come with me shoulder be damned!

A word to the wise though dudes - if you gotta move put your collection in a bunch of little boxes. Even if you can carry heavy stuff with ease you can mess yourself up pretty good doin it.

I recently moved away from Winnipeg. Never found anything (though, I didn't really try, either).
<Evan_G> i keep my games in an inaccessable crate where i can't play them
Arrived in Winnipeg in one piece. From what I've seen so far I love it here. Only been here for two days but it's home
I don't really have PC access like I did. My PC is still in Pittsburgh and won't be here until at least the 3rd week of Oct. I'll be checkin this thread though every time I get my hands on a PC.

Glad to hear your here! I like to complain about my city, but damn I would hate to move, but unfortunately it looks like I may have to in a couple of years.
Anyways, I'm always happy to hear of good finds in the area, so keep us updated with how your doing.
Winnipeg isn't an easy place to start a collection. I'm a DC collector and most of my stuff are imported. One can hardly find any nice goodies around here anymore.
Anyway, this might interest any gamers in town. A small U of M club.

Hey there Tend, my pc finally arrived (in April)I'm horrible at checking forums anymore. The lack of pc for months pushed me more in the direction of playing more games instead of reading and posting. I do check PMs cause I get e-mail notifications though.
I too like to complain about the city. I have a lot of complaints actually. Starting with trying to find games in Winnipeg is harder than tryin to find a needle in a haystack. At least for me. Been here almost a year and have made 0 friends and still don't know my way around the city (other than the malls and the North End).
@ vegi-saurus - thanks for the link. I'm a little iffy about gettin involved with university folk. Frankly most of em are too young for my blood (no offense).
Off-topic rant about Winnipeg:
I love and hate this city. I can't stand the fact that the busses have no air conditioning. The lack of 24 hour stuff also has me feeling like I've moved into a time warp. The racism and the number of cops that harrass people based strictly on appearance is highly rediculous. I do love the amount of Ukrainian food readily available and the library has a decent collection of books about video games.

Just don't walk down Portage street late at night!
(Portage steet being the only street I remember from my trip to Winnipeg a few years ago).![]()
Actually, Portage isn't too bad anymore, it's notoriety is fairly imaginary. Due to the introduction of the MTS centre and an increase in police monitoring, the entirety of downtown is becoming quite a bit safer...though I can't say the same for the rest of the city which just seems to be getting worse....
Yea, town is safe for sure. Just annoying when tons of people run around asking you for smokes and/or change. That happens much more frequently here than it did in Pittsburgh. I just tell em get a f-ing job and go away.
I live in the North End, no need to tell me about safetyActually where I'm at (near Arlington bridge) is actually pretty damn safe. It's down near Main that seems to be the big problem. I don't like goin down that way in the daytime even. Still my family doesn't let me out at night. The few times I've been out at night I wasn't bothered at all. I think areas I've been to in the states are far rougher than anything Winnipeg can throw at me (cept perhaps the West End).
