Default Holy F%#k, this store has gone overboard with overpricing

ok, we all know used game stores overprice classic games, but i went to a store i know of today, and it was utterly rediculous.. smb1 was AU$12, smb1/duck hunt was AU$19 marked down from $29! sonic 2 for md, cart only, was $19 aswel.. ocarina of time - $47, majoras mask - $54, soul calibur was $30, and their psx games were all $25 to $55.. total madness.. zelda dx for gb/gbc was around $50 aswel.

it seems like this: they price their nes games too high, so people stop buying them, then because their sales are going down, they think nobody wants them, so they stop getting them in.. as a result they have about 10 nes games in the store

How much is that in US dollars? I can't get a range of how much they cost without that.

    So that's like 76 cents US$ right?

I usually estimate that AUS$ are twice US$. Not exact but close.

    Actually you're well off. US$1 is AU$1.30 or £0.55

Tell them why their NES games aren't selling, Otherwise they might throw the NES games away, and you don't want that, even if it is a SMB/DH cart.

I got one guy at the flea market to lower his prices by taking pictures of his stock with a digital camera. I told him my friends wouldn't believe that I found prices that high. Next week, everything was half off.

It seems to me that NES prices are up in some local markets owing to that system's relatively recent anointment as a "retro" console. My local game shops are all trying to hawk the 1 or 2 toasters in inentory for $50 each alongside large stacks of PSX's and N64's for $10 - $15. Joe Notacollecta is none the wiser as to the relative availability of these things and gladly pays the $50 since the shop owners will also "throw in" an SMB/DH. I imagine the foreign markets are worse.

The worst pricing I've run into in a while was this pawn shop in Socorro where I found a Sears Video Acrade II for $40. Cool. But then the shop owner, thinking I was an idiot, tried to talk me into buying his stack of carts - all R1's - for "only" $10 each. Stupid hick!

I remeber you talking about that Sears unit..

I forgot how insanely rare & expensive the combat carts are.

HAHAHA!!! What store was this, a Game Traders? I can't imagine GT's prices being quite that bad, but y'know.

Even the local markets have gone absolutely stupid in their pricing. $50 for a cart only Majora's Mask? Uh, no thanks. AND to top it off, over here in Perth there are a bunch of people buying pretty much every game released before the current systems, and selling them in their eBay stores. I hate these people more than pretty much anything. Get a fucking job instead of making a profit off games that you will never play, you cock. This may surprise you, but some people actually liked paying $4 for a Master System game before you got your eBay whore hands grubbing all over it!

    K, done. :P

Also, $30 for Soul Calibur, as much as it pains me to say this, isn't that bad. Our local Game Traders sold a copy of Chu Chu Rocket for $50 recently. Sigh. (I found my copy of SC for $5 somehow!) Pricing has gotten so ridiculous, I only buy games from forum members now, unless it's a really sweet deal. Hell, a lot of the time it's cheaper to go with eBay!

Well, hehe. Selling videogames is a job. What about the founder of this forum? Hes about to open a gamestore. Do you call him a cock? :P
No stores will sell games cheaper than what they bought it from, unless they have some old stock they need to get rid off.

I do believe that Amy Rose was ranting about E-Bay resellers, not store owners.

    Context is everything.

    lol reviving an old thread.
yeah, it was gametraders, but it's been bought buy a guy who's slightly better with pricing. things are still pretty expensive, but he's flexible with pricing.

Don't feel too bad Goodwill is pretty high at times too, price off of Epay too much. There is a resale by me named Trader Jon's, known the guy for years and always gives me good deals except lately I have to buy huge lots to get good prices. I'm in Illinois and he uses Gamedude.com for pricing then drops the price a buck or two less and says it's a better deal. I don't get it there's probably a whole five people in Illinois who know who Gamedude is and I'm one of them and know one's gonna care that he's beating their prices.
If they made a movie out of your top five worst sins, what would it be rated?

vintagegamecrazy: one thing about most of those prices at Game Dude, they are really picky about condition. They won't accept any newer system games without case and manual. They buy back games for way less for older systems with boxes and manuals. They have some very good prices, some are higher than normal, but the condition is worth it.
