Default PS1 games with built-in Soundtrack

Wild 9 is one of my favorite games for the PlayStation, and a big reason is the music I thought was particularly well done. Much to my glee I could also stick it into my PC and record the soundtrack right off the game disc! Is there a list of other such games for the PS1, or perhaps you have a story about your fun soundtrack discovery? Happy holidays!

    [EDIT]

Alright, in an attempt to grow out collective video game libraries, I'll compile an ever-evolving list here. If this topic is already hiding somewhere on the formuns, someone point us to it!

PS1 games with entire soundtrack available for play from game CD:

    Air Combat
    Darkstone
    DBZ: Legends (JP)
    Forsaken
    Galaga: Destination Earth
    Mortal Kombat Trilogy
Street Fighter 2 (On SF collection disk)
    Street FIghter Alpha
    Street Sk8er
    Terracon
    Twisted Metal 1, 2, 3, and 4
    Wild 9
    Wipeout

PS1 games with a small bonus for play on the game CD:

    Agile Warrior
Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare
    Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
    Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete
    Ridge Racer

Games on other systems with available music/goodies for play off of the game CD:

    Iron Soldier 2 (Saturn)

Thanks to everyone who have contributed and to those who have yet to contribute! I'll keep this list updated.

I didn't know about that. The only disc I knew of previously (as I thought no PSX games used redbook for actual ingame audio, whoops) was Dracula X NitM/Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, which has the nifty remix of "Dracula's Castle" (my copy is PSX The Best - i.e. a rerelease - out of Japan, so I get to hear Japanese Alucard's breathless "I am conflicted + a hit with all the ladies" posturing, lol

    Eh, right.

Actually I know of a (imperfect) ripping program that lets you extract "strings" from many PlayStation games, which is how I got the Tenchu soundtrack. I forget the name, but it's at Zophar's.

On a tangent, you can use PSXMC to rip all of the XA audio streams from Playstation games that use them. I did up a little tutorial on doing STRs (videos), but XAs are the same basic idea (though I strongly doubt you'll be using VirtualDub to encode 'em when CDex does a much better job.

as far as game with redbook audio on them, I can't really recall many offhand. I know Ridge Racer did it (which was why you could take the game out after it was finished loading and swap in any other music cd to change the soundtrack), but I'm sure there's a mountain of other games that had 'em.

Even more off topic, can you do this with PS2 games? PS2 format and the DVD game format. That would be awesome if I could get some of those soundtracks.

except for the Sega CD (all of them with music probably did; Sega CD games that used the Genesis sound chip were in the minority, if indeed any exist) and the Saturn, on which some games used redbook...

yea, there's a couple of different audio formats on the PS2 and it's not quite as easy as it is with the PSOne. CubeMedia Player seems to support works with a lot of games, such as Grand Theft Auto III and Initial D. There's some another program... AFS something or other that I used at one point but I can't remember the name to save my life right now

edit - MFAudio and BGM2WAV may also come in handy. If you use BGM2WAV, you may as well use the PS2 Audio Converter GUI, too

Tons of Saturn games use Redbook audio. Stuff like Virtua Fighter 2 and Fighters Megamix along with Sonic 3d Blast, Tempest 2000, Quake, etc. There's some utilities out for extracting some different audio formats as well, but I'll have to dig those up later.

Xbox games are hit and miss since some developers seem to like to change the Xbox audio codec around to suit their needs. Your best bet is to use the Xbox ADPCM codec.

Haven't played with Dreamcast ripping yet, but it looks like AFS Extractor may do the job. Might have to use ADX2WAV as well.

For Gamecube, get GC2WAV to convert ADP files. Not sure if AST ADPCM files can be converted yet or not.

One of the best thing about PSX prototypes is the chance they change the music on the soundtrack before release. I'm sure others can answer this better then me but several games changed there tune. Duke Nukem comes to mind.

SF2 disc on Street Fighter Collection for PSX. Totally freaking sweet.

Panzer Dragoon on the Saturn. Also freaking sweet.

I know years back i got the street sk8er game for ps1, and i don't remember why i tried it, but you could use that in any normal cd player to listen to music. Soundtrack wasn't to bad when i was young, has alot of ska music on it. Looking back, I don't know what I was thinking.

Mortal Kombat Trilogy is one. Put the disc in the CD player and you can listen to the whole soundtrack.

The Wipeout games have their own built-in soundtrack also.

I did the cd-swap trick with Twisted Metal 1 and 2, Street Fighter Alpha, WipeOut, and a few other early ones. Most of those I also put in my cd player to see if they'd play the soundtrack and I remember some did.

    Jumping Flash? Mmmmm...

There are only 3 titles I can think of which have their entire [yes, all of the song] in game soundtrack available in RB audio mode.

Terracon, Air Combat, and Galaga: Destination Earth.

Many many more have a few bonus songs or the like available to play in a standard CD player. I'll give a brief example of them.

Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare had a very interesting vocal piece.

Lunar: SSSC has a nice tune of Luna singing her heart out.

Tokimeki Memorial has a combo remix of all the girl's themes, as well as Shiori talking a bit about how the heck did you find this track?!

I'm certain we've done this topic before. Sadly, a search for "Timeshock" (as Pro Pinball Timeshock was another one on this list) only turns up two threads in Buying & Selling. What gives?

I'm pretty sure Final Fantasy VIII has a few redbook pieces.

I believe that you can do this with Twisted Metal 3+4 as well as 1+2.
