Customer service aside, how would you rate Gamestop as a place to buy games?
Customer service aside, how would you rate Gamestop as a place to buy games?
With the phasing out of pre-PSX games, the haphazardness of all the stores in my area, the avaliability of Internet shopping, and Gamestops belief that packaging is unneccessary, I only purchase from them once in a blue moon. It's just not worth it to me to go in a store that looks like it's been hit by a tornado, fight my way past unattended and out of controll children, only to find maybe one game I'm looking for, sans case and overpriced. No thanks.
Yeah, I'm currently still in the "It's great if you know what bargains to look for." category, but with the direction they're going, I will soon be in the "I only go there when I have to." category.
I only go there if EBX doesn't have what I am looking for.I have always liked EBX better, better prices, betetr selection, and the people just don't suck. >
They're heavy price gougers but they're pretty dumb ones at times.
I've found a bunch of Tengen Tetris carts there in the past and they all have been priced at a few bucks each. Now a dirt common Zelda though... I visit the stores near me regularly just in case something rare pops up though it's tough because most of the better stuff never hits the shelves if you know what I mean.
And do they really thing that they're doing us a favor by selling their used PS2 and Gamecube games at $5 off the new game prices? Many of them are missing manuals anyways.
It is like anywhere some things are over priced but if u look around u can find some good stuff. I just got a boxed super scope there for $10.

my blt drive on my computer just went awol and i got this big project due tomorrow for mr. kawasaki and if i don't get it in he's gonna ask me to commit harry carey.
GameStop and Funcoland have made my SHITLIST--discarding packaging and charging 20-25 bucks for a USED LOOSE GBA Game?!?!?!? > KISS MY NARROW ASS GAMESTOP!!!!
There are 2 in the Mall of America --and yes, it really is Generica Hell on Earth--and they are clean and organized, but staffed by young kids that aren't serious about gaming or collecting, so it's no surprise. It's TOTALLY RANDOM that you'll find someone who is very knowledgeable and helpful, and also find something that is hard to find with packaging. TOTALLY RANDOM.
"When I get mad and I get pissed
I grab a pen and I write out a list
Of all the assholes that won't be missed
You made my SHITLIST
SHEE-YAA-AA-AH, A-AHT LIST"
The sound of all the Genny, Snes, carts bashing together by the above mentioned Kids, and usually there parents makes me want to cry, and reminds me not to buy loose carts from there.
They're not that bad. At least not my local one.
I got Puzzle Fighter there for $17.99. YOu just have to know what to look for. The manager at my local one (my old manager ) tries to keep boxes for NES games and such, but here DM comes in and throws them al away.
I have a lot of orphans that I managed to save, but most the time its not worth saving.
And the "buy 2 get one free" deal is great. I got a used Everblue 2, Code Veronica X, got a free vangard bandits and traded it for 20 dollars at a local store and got Mega Man Legends and still have 7 bucks in credit left. Go me.
I am in fact the guy that made the Raisins prototype worth thousands less by dumping it. "D'oh!!"
If you answered that it's too expensive or that they throw out packaging, the only question I have is this: Where do you shop that DOESN'T? All the places around here are like that as far as I can tell.
I go there whenever I need a good laugh.
Metroid Prime sealed = 50 bucks
Metroid prime used with no manual and non original box = 45 dollars
whaaa???????

No, I'm Mr. Big Lucky Flavor!
Gamestop gets my coveted "F" award mostly for having overpriced SNES carts and a piss poor selection of NES carts.Originally Posted by Keir to the nth power

Poor SNES selection though.
Peace, Love and Atari!
Checked out the new Gamestop that opened near me- has Super Star Wars and Space Invaders for SNES sealed for 9.99 and Sega 6-Pack for Genesis for 4.99..saw many other titles haven't seen before like Unjammer Lammy and found Sword of the berserk which tetsu keeps wanting me to buy.
My Gaming Collection (Now at Google Drive!)
pick up genny rpg's for dirt cheap usually. but i meinly fo there to pick up nes adapters and such for under $5..usually beats ebay or others when you factor shipping.
My life and perception has changed, but my principals are the same.
How is Gamestop? Crappy. When they bought out Funco I was literally crying. Now every game I'd looked at before the buyout compared to their new prices I just get angry. But it's basically all I have, so I'm sad to say I voted in the "It's OK" group.
I used to love GameStop, but lately, I've been going less and less. The Software ETC/ Gamestop near me used to be good. They used to stock a lot of old NES games that were very cheap. They got rid of them all though, and the prices for all the used games got jacked up too.
I used to go to Funco Land regularly- they had a huge selection of uncommon NES games that I would grab. But when Funco Land became GameStop, the people who used to work there mysteriously vanished, and people who can't understand a word of English now work there. And all the uncommon NES games? They now only have easy to find games that I already own. One time, I bought a "new" Skies of Arcadia Dreamcast game. It was the last one, and they kept the discs for it under the counter, and displayed the case on the shelves. When I got it home, I realized the discs were all scratched and beat up. I kept them though- they cost less than the used copy...
And does anyone have GameStop that hangs all their NES games in bags on the wall? They all fall off when you try to pull one out. ARRGGHHH!
ON THE OTHER HAND, there is a GameStop in Maine that I go to when my mother visits her parents up there that I love to go to. They still carry old stuff, Sega CD, NES, and sometimes Atari. There isn't much stuff there, but I usually find something good. Once I went in there, and a guy was going to sell his box of Atari 2600 stuff. I got it off him for $30 before he could sell it to the store. There were about 50 games, 30 of them new for me, and a Galaxian prototype ! If someone walked into my local GameStop and tried to sell that stuff, they would probably just laugh at him.
