Well, it's just one of those games, like TumblePop, Buster Bros, or Snow Bros. Not everyone's cup of tea, but they keep making 'em. Or at least they used to.
(By the way, Bubble Bobble does come to an end after level 99.)

what takes Bubble Bobble out of being just another 80's single frame platformer to something really above the rest is the use of great music, and the ol' easy to learn/hard to master

Great? I call it annoying. Especially with all those baby-crying sounds. Why does a dragon growl like a baby?!?
Since there's no goal or storyline, I guess I'll dump this one into my recycle bin. I'd rather play Pac-Man or Dig Dug.

First, are you playing alone, or two player simultaneous? Two-player mode is much more fun.Originally Posted by theaveng

The goal is to rescue your girlfriend-dino. The storyline is that she was taken prisoner by a great big bad guy. Of course, you have to be good enough to get to him first...
There are ways to speed up your progress via secret doors, bonus items, etc.
It's a great game, sounds like it just isn't your cup of tea.
By the way, what is the goal of Pac-Man? Storyline? Same question with regards to Dig Dug.
Selling collection, Atari through XBox. Send a PM with whatever games you're looking for.
Wow, that was very Al Queda of me. Maybe I came on too strong...
Still, I think Bubble Bobble is one of the best, and certainly the most charming, games Taito ever designed. There are tons of power ups, plenty of challenge, adorable characters, sometimes devilishly designed rounds, unique play mechanics... it all adds up to one of the most brilliant games ever designed.

P.S. Are you playing the Game Boy Advance version? Because that's the only version I can think of where the dragons talk.
>>>By the way, what is the goal of Pac-Man? Storyline?
To get an andrenaline rush from the rapidly moving ghosts.
In contrast, Bubble Bobble is sloooooow. 10 screens without even trying. Pretty boring. ;-)

I LOVE this game! Great fun on MAME especially, the two player game is frantic. Has anyone found a list with all of the games' secrets? Seems like every so often we stumble into one of the bonuses and jet off to a hidden level.
What version has the dinos "crying"? I've never heard them make any noise before! Granted I've only played the arcade, NES, and SMS versions (the latter two are based strictly on the arcade). I don't think I'd like "hearing" them either! Weird.
it's a great game to sit and play for awhile, and it's also a game where you can just pick up and play if you only have a few minutes without deeply diving into the storyline.
ps. Bub & Bob talk and cry in Bust A Move 4. Not sure which other ones they make noises in.
Bubble Symphony was FANTASTIC. When the arcade I got to had that game, me and my friend would tear through it on downtime during tournaments.

They talk in the new Bubble Bobble collection for the Game Boy Advance, which I heartily recommend... despite the characters squealing "Babu!" every time they collect a power up in the remixed game. If it bothers you that much, you can switch over to the old version, which is a straight translation without the frills.
