Which on of these companies will go out of business first and why?
Although this thread is a bad idea that will lead into pointless fanboy ranting, Sony would logically be the first to die.
Microsoft has huge cash reserves and is making billions.
Nintendo has huge cash reserves and has only ran in the red for two months since the company began in 1889.
Sony is losing a pissload of money in almost all of it's divisions and the entire company is ridding on Blu-Ray. Given Sony's history of failing to launch new formats and given the suprisingly strong opposition in the gaming market (Sony's only consistently profitable division) things aren't looking to bright for the company.
Regarding Sony, this was posted on Bloomberg earlier today:

I will agree that Sony will die first.(not for awhile) But I think Nintendo sales in the U.S. will die. Because of there lack of Mature games. As is always the case. My opinion
I hope none of them go away. If there is a change, possibly Sony will just elave the games market and stick to home electronics/PC harware.

They're not doing a great job in that field either. I'd prefer they stick to the things they're good at. Like powermanagement on Video Cameras.Originally Posted by SNKFan75

Besides, since neither the PS2 or Revolution are out yet and nobody's even seen one how can you expect anyone to make an educated guess?
Easy. You look to the past to determine the future and you look at estimates.Originally Posted by Griking
2 companies are in solid shape and can take a loss, one can't. So logicially the first to die should be the one that can't take a loss.
It's not an exact science it's just an educated guess based on everything we're seeing.
Ehm...I'm pretty sure the PS2 has been out for quite a while.Originally Posted by Griking
And I do hope Sony ends up croaking. I think Sony is a bigger money hog than Microsoft ever was.
Sony will die!!!!
Nintendo will not use the core of the system to make U.S. Gamers appreciate. PERIOD!!!!
As it always is.
More-or-less what I would have posted word-for-word.Originally Posted by njiska

Anyways, can someone please lock this one up? This thread is troll happy flame bait if I've ever seen it. Nothing good can come from it.
I only need 2 more NES games (US)!
True, but if you start locking threads for what they could do, then bad things could happen. As long as it's calm i say let it go.Originally Posted by Rev. Link
After hearing the most recent news that the PS3's dashboard hogs up 25% of the processing power, as well as reserving the right to prioritize itself over games on an entire core. I'd say the PS3's going to kill Sony off sooner or later... with that much usage heading to the dash, that leaves the actual resources for games much lower than expected, and way below the Xbox 360.
to compare, X360's dashboard uses less than 4% of a single core's processor.
Either it'll bomb and Playstation will die faster than you can say "oh Look Ken Kutagari's saying something that's making sense for a change... oop sorry my mistake, it's just a pig flying", or it'll be a big seller and Sony's Gaming division dies from losing money on each console manufactured.
Of course the 3rd theory is that PS3 succeeds and Blu-Ray dies a death (AKA The UMD - Utterly Miserable Death) - that way Sony will drop dead within months, and someone will pick up the rights to the Playstation Brand - perhaps Microsoft would buy it, as they have pockets deeper than Nintendo does.
Nintendo will always be around - perhaps not in the console market, but in the handheld division they are simply unmatched, and that won't change in the foreseeable future.
Microsoft is one of the biggest and richest corporations in the world. Even if the Xbox 360 sold 1000 machines in it's entire lifetime the losses would barely dent their pockets, and they've already put it on the record that they'll "play again" with a future console, regardless of whether X360 becomes number 1 or not.
So my prognosis is Playstation as we know it will die first. May not be this year, maybe not 2007, but I'd hazard a guess at perhaps 2010 if things don't go smoothly with the BR and PS3 launches.
i would have to say M$ will be the first, granted they have a huge surplus of cash behind them but when you take into consideration the slow sales or problems (example: japan any one?) there comes a time when your gonna go hey, this aint workin....and stop...damage control in a sence. walk away what what money ou have left and try something else...they could pull a sega....who knows since this is all theroy
I take it you can back this up with a link?Originally Posted by Juganawt
All the info I have read has said that the OS will have 1 SPE reserved for it. That is not 25% of the CPU power. The current issue people are talking about is the RAM, and it has not been verified, with some people saying that the RAM requirements on the OS have been shrinking with each devkit revision. There is a thread on GAF about it. You should read it.
Seriously.
As for the rest of your post.. basically no matter what Sony is fucked so they might as well just sell off to Microsoft, right?
Here you go.

Although they do an excellent job of proving that it shouldn't be an issue.

So, the bigger question is: who's going to go out of business first -- Atari, Phillips, Mattel, Coleco?
It's TOTALLY going to be Mattel. Those little disc controllers SUCK. And the O2? What's up with that KEYBOARD? It sucks. Bad.
I say Coleco PWNS! Can play Coleco cartridges AND Atari carts with an adapter? Winner!
But Mattel's going the way of the Fairchild, bitches!!!!1!
