Hang on, let me see, just in my collection I heartily enjoyed:
Animal Crossing (A little slow, but a nice change of pace. Even better when you have friends' towns to travel to)
Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem (If you haven't played this game, then you shouldn't be passing sweeping judgments on the cube)
Ikaruga
Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (Insult it all you want, the game was still so much fun)
Metroid Prime
Resident Evil 0
Resident Evil (Awesome, just awesome. They took a great game and made it stellar)
Resident Evil 4 (I'm sorry, the PS2 graphics, while good, still don't hold a candle IMO)
Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2: Rogue Leader (I can do the trench run on this game all day)
Super Smash Bros Melee (Fun in single AND multiplayer, I can't even count the number of hours I have in this game. I still remember the night I was banned from using Mr. G&W, there was a lot of cursing and yelling involved. Good times)
Viewtiful Joe (The first one rocks your socks, just admit it)
Disappointing? Hardly. I paid full retail back when it was released and I don't regret it one bit. But then again, everyone's definition of disappointing is different I guess.
The GC is about the same as the N64 IMO. Sure, everything nintendo released was great..... But that sums up the entire system library (excepting a VERY few like ikaruga and eternal darkness, etc..)
Honestly, I wouldn't be too surprised to see the wii in the same state after 2-3 years.
Does that mean the systems aren't worth it? Hell no. You could get a Gamecube with the top 20 games for, what, $400 total? Are you saying there wouldn't be $400 worth of the best videogames in the past 5 years included in that lot compared to a similar lot of PS2 or Xbox games/system?
Now once you get past those 20 games, you may be a bit screwed

I totally agree. I hated the N64 back then and i still hate it now. Games for the Cube like RE, RE0, RE4, the Mario games (Not Sunshine though), Eternal Darkness, Paper Mario, Rogue Leader, Tales of Symphonia and a good few more already it make it vastly superior to the N64...
Cube > N64
Now the N64 was disappointing compared to the AAA+ SNES.
I actually thought the Cube gave me much of what I was missing on 64... Metroid, mature games (RE, MGS Twin Snakes), actual RPGs (Skies of Arcadia).....
Anyone who thought they could buy a Cube alone and thought it should be like its own PS2 were probably disappointed, but those who bought Cube as a second console shouldn't have a reason to complain.
I got more great Nintendo games on Cube than I had on 64, and I even got a handful of great third party gems as well. To me that was a success.
I never experienced the "drought" that people talk about, though I remember it on N64 and I didn't even put much hope in that console. Then again, I think having one good game every two month or so is fine.... any more than that and I can't keep up!
The "accepted viewpoint" is that the Gamecube has the superior graphics, thanks to its massive CD storage (approximately who knows how many times more space).
Well.
I disagree. The Gamecube is disappointing compared to the N64. The Gamecube is pretty small, discs typically are very tiny, with games that fail to properly match-up ("disappointing" is the term most people use). I find the N64 characters such as Banjo, Mario, and Link to be far more...... not realistic, but definitely more beautiful. More solid and substantial.
The N64 graphics appear "less-disappointing" and "64-bit" versus its 128-bit competitor.
What's your opinion?
I love it!
Only costs me 5 dollars per game, for ~30 minutes. Great cheap console for an Emergency when I can't find any Veronica Mars to watch. And any game minutes are not realistic, but definitely more beautiful.
On my TV (aka the boob tube).

I see all these ads with people jumping around & leaning sideways. Looks like fun. However...
I want to play Zelda (or Mario or Metroid) the old-fashioned way:
- laying in bed under the covers.
Can I still do that?
You quoted me here, when you originally posted this. I was one of the people saying the Game Cube did ok. I never called it a flop. When I brought up stuff like the 3DO and Jaguar, that was to imply that Nintendo had never released a major product that sold that poorly. That wasn't meant to say the Game Cube sold as slowly as those did, I think that is the impression you got from my original post.
In case anyone mentions Virtual Boy:
With all due respect, the Virtual Boy doesn't really count because I see it as a diversion. It was never going to be something to replace an N64 with or even the Game Boy.
I reviewed some reviews. Differences I noted:
- Controls (obviously)
- Graphics are identical on both consoles
- Sound on the Cube is "sampled" like N64-style
- .....but orchestral/pre-recorded on the Wii
- (Is that true?)
Any other differences?
Hardware manufacturers have agreed to retire both formats and make new devices.
Sweet.

Luigi's Mansion was a great game to get at launch, but I personally wouldn't include it as a 'gem' of the machine. IMO it's kinda of short (and I like short games normally) and didn't hold any incentive for me to replay it.
Eternal Darkness was easily my favourite GC game. Fantastic game. Unique. And I'd play it again in a second.
I wouldn't call the machine a disappointment in my eyes (that's the N64 for me), but it didn't inspire me to buy another Nintendo console once the Wii was announced, so it's a failure in that respect.

So right there aside from Metroid you have three games you can play on other systems. Yeah they're all "good" but they hardly make the system a "must have". The Gamecube just never developed its own identity.
Pick a system and fill in the blanks:
You gotta have a _______ to play _________.
For me the Gamecube just never filled in that second blank. Well actually, it did for the eight months or so that RE4 was a GC exclusive.
Super monkeyball 1+2 Gc versions are best with cube analog. Ikaruga is cheaper and has extra modes, Wario ware , Smashbros, Soul caliber 2 with link. Pro evo soccer 2.5 edition. These games are why i keep my cube plus i have Astro boy and Gunstar S heroes 4 the Gc player. I played some other good games like prime etc but yes i have 2 agree the cube was complete and utter dirt cakes compared to the gems on the 64.
I liked it for what it was, for once nintendo had some quality third party support, remake and 0 were the reasons I bought one and I also had alot of fun with the gba, even though I get sick of the horrible res and pathetic sound quality.
The Gamecube is a neat system for a few odd reasons:
- The discs are really small and are just weird...kinda in a "neat weird" sort of way
- The system is really portable, especially with the nifty handle
- The suckers last a long damn time - just like the N64, SNES, etc.
- The games are cheap
- The Gamecube controller is actually really comfortable, even if it isn't a good setup for many games (especially console ports)
- Some neat games came out for it (Pikmin comes to mind mostly)
The N64 was better overall though in my mind, simply because its great games did a lot more for their respective genres and back in the late 90s, Nintendo hadn't driven all these franchises into the ground like the Gamecube unfortunately did.
What rock you been livin' under? They weren't 1st place last time around but I wouldn't go so far as to say they drove their franchises into the ground. And with the combined success of the DS and the Wii, I'd say they're more than holding their own this time and their future looks rosy.
