The Hori is very nice. The Capcom stick always looked cheap to me, and I hate split-anything, especially split keyboards. But then again I have yet to try it, the thing could be the best stick in the world! My favorite sticks that I own are the Sega Genesis 6-button arcade stick and the Namco PS1 Arcade Stick.

There were still quality sticks back in the early/mid 90's:

    Solid as a rock

Adjustable turbo, adjustable button angle, switchable 4/8 gate stick, built in muti tap
Too bad I can't play MAME with those. Nice try Nec.

BTW how many fighting games are for PC Engine again?

I didn't see having it be usuable on MAME be a prerequiste.

17 off the top of my head, the Neo ports were the best of any versions at the time not on Neo hardware..and unknown =/= bad.

The ports came out AFTER the Neo versions therefore they had to be severely scaled down on the 8-bit PC Engine. Neo Geo is a console too so that means the Neo wins by far.

BTW the Hori brand is overrated and so is this extremely overpriced XE-1. I had a PS2 Dragon Quest Slime pad and the buttons started to stick after using it so many times.

I hope a game would be better on it's native system that had superior specs. True they were scaled down, but compare themto the SNES version...which were scaled down even more.

Never using this Hori stck, or am XE-1 Pro (overpriced? I nabbed mine boxed for $40) your opinion about another irrelevant controller is a bit moot.

Off the top of my head:

    Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition
    Asuka 120 Burning Fest
    Flash Hiders
    Art of Fighting
    Fatal Fury 2
    Fatal Fury Special
    World Heroes 2
    Advanced VG
the third Ranma 1/2 on SCD
    Strip Fighter
    Kabuki Itoryodan
    Martial Champion
    Fighting Street
    Battlefield 94 (arcade style wrestling)

There is a couple others I know Im forgetting... The Neo ports and SF2 cover the major bases for that time period anyway, and as you said, the Neo ports were the best of that time period. The Sega CD, Genesis, and Snes Neo ports got put to shame easily. At any rate, you already know Ninny hasn't even played most of them other then SF2 since the moron broke his Duo and got banned Nectarsis. He probably doesn't even know Asuka has a following and sequels.

Best part of why Dave earned a spot on the ignore list, he never speaks from experience. Hes just trolling. Any thread he starts usually ends up boiling down to him posting replies like that. You already know that. Let him say what he wants, just makes him look more moronic. Hes got much of nothing to validate most any comment he spouts off, other then his butt hurt fueled opinion, and his undying love for China Warrior.

A bit moot? I am talking about a PS2 HORI pad. Now I am hesitant to buy anything from that brand.

Since my long time fellow PC-ENGINE HELL has been on my ignore list for quite some time, I am going to assume he put up a list of mediocre PCE fighting games and then talk smack about me. Breaking the forum rules much?

"Mediocre" games you haven't played more than likely.

Moving back to the actual joystick discussion...
For the CPS Stick, I had no problem with the layout - I was already familiar enough with Japanese-style arcade stick/button layouts that I knew what I was getting into. Therefore, I'd probably be fine with the stick if it had a Japanese-style button mod, rather than those cruddy "Stock" buttons that I feel get in the way of it being a "Real arcade" stick.

On early Hori-Brand sticks, I have a Hori Fighting Stick SS, and it seems like an OK joystick, but I didn't particularly get the "Best Joystick EVER" vibe some of the other folks make it out to be.

The XE-1 stick description makes it sound more like it's being praised for it's "extra features" than for actually being a good arcade stick on it's own - which is not to immediately judge it, but I do tend to get annoyed when a joystick gets recommended immediately for "Adjustable Turbo", a feature I feel is more equivilant to cheating than a good arcade stick feature. The CPS Stick also has that and the 4/8-way switch, and I largely ignore these functions - ok, one time I tried the 4/8-way switch to see how that sort of thing is supposed to work, but simply "Disabling" the diagonals rather than making them physically impossible to accomplish felt rather cheap to me. Not that it mattered anyway - I wasn't gonna be playing Ms, Pac-Man on this stick.

I honestly don't have too many complaints about the Capcom stick. Ive modded quite a few over the years to be used on 3DO, Pc-Engine, and SuperGuns. Not too much by Hori I've owned I have not liked completely, but I'd not be willing to pay more then around $50-60 for their sticks. They are nice, durable, easy to mod or repair, but I have owned better sticks for sure.

Ugh, those things. My friend has one of those sticks for Genesis, and while it's ok (he certainly liked it plenty) my period joystick preference were the ASCII ones. The CPS ones just felt so cheap.

Of course, nowadays you can just get a Cthulhu PCB and use practically any stick on SNES with it. I'm rather interested in modding up a Seimitsu stick with that to throw down in some classic shooters and platformers ;p

So almost everyone thinks the Capcom stick is the worst joystick ever? Well like I posted earlier. Opinionz.

Well, like I was saying I have yet to try it out. It looks ergonomical. What are the buttons/joystick like? Are they clicky?

Well clicky buttons/joysticks are nice. That's how my Namco arcade stick is for the PS1, so much easier to pull off moves with that.

When you are playing it does it feel like a real arcade stick?

It is not like the Namco stick for PS1, at all. I have both. The Namco stick has a sawna feel (but isn't, I don't think), but it is a step in the right direction. The construction on the Namco is also solid, with a metal base. I like the Namco stick, it does have that "arcade feel".

This stick for snes is plastic with weird tiny buttons, an ergonomic? layout, and a crap stick. But it is the only SNES stick I own, I doubt any other readily available sticks from this era are that much better, if at all.

The SNES has had a variety of arcade sticks of various quality. I believe most folks recommend either the Hori stick, or a C&L Controls "Championship" joystick (which is much like a MAS Systems stick, except constructed in plastic rather than wood.)
