Actually, what it does is make the PSP Go seem less expensive!
Brilliant marketing tactic!

An extra 130 Gigs for an extra $50?
250 GB Laptop HDDs seem to run about $50-$75 so ... you'd spend more if you bought the 120 Gig PS3 and bought an upgraded drive.

Sure, bargain hunters could probably find a 250 Gig (or larger) laptop HDD for less, but for the lazy who want more HDD space, it doesn't seem like Sony is going over-board on the price scale.

I traded in my original 80gb drive and 2 xbox 360 games to get the 250gb hard drive......totally worth it....

I think if you care about that much extra space, then certainly 130 gigs is worth $50. But honestly, unless you're using your PS3 as some kind of storage device, 120 gigs is more than enough.
I have an 80-gig fat PS3, and space isn't an issue for me. Of course, you are allowed to delete stuff that you're not using anymore, like game-installs for rentals or bloated demos that you've already tried or movies that you've already seen.
Right now, my 80GB is at half capacity right now, and that is because of the games that install to the HDD.
To be honest, once I play the game fully and unlock everything, there is little to make me come back, so I simply delete what the game installed. I will keep the save files, though. And I can simply reinstall the game if I ever have the urge to play.
I just see 250GB as overkill right about now. But it's still nice to see something like that.

Laptop TB drives are much more expensive than standard SATA desktop drives ... closer to $200.
Though, with the proper formatting tool (needs to be FAT32 for the PS3 to read it via the USB port) you can make an external USB drive (up to 1TB) for storing & accessing PS3 media files (movies, music, etc.) from the XMB.

That price for a 250 GB model and that's it is too high.
Unless they pack in any of these: Metal Gear Solid 4, Killzone 2, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, Modern Warfare 2, Uncharted 2 or NBA 10 The Inside in any combination, then that would be pretty good.
I think its an okay deal. For the most part a 250 hdd will cost around $60. Not sure what someone will do with 250 gigs though. I have 120 in my XBOX and PS3 and have not used more than 40 in each.

I purchased the $299 120GB unit tonight. I used to own a PS3 and sold it off when times got tough, but always had my 40+ PSN games I had purchased on the back of my mind. I re-activated my account on the new system and downloaded all of my games. Still at 88GB.
I also have a 500GB drive that will work with the PS3 in an enclosure at the moment. The drive ran me $100 about a year ago. I don't see any reason to pay an extra $50 for an extra 120 or so GB honestly.
