I got to play this game for a bit and seemed like an ok game. I got killed by a giant bat and stopped.
Is the rest of this a decent game?

It's a fantastic game, and totally worth spending some time with.
However, it has some typos that will confuse you. For example, when they tell you to "push" a rock, it means to stab it repeatedly. In addition, when they tell you to stab a certain rock, etc, sometimes the screen or particular rock they lead you to is totally incorrect. I recommend reading an FAQ as you play if you get confused.
That said, it's a unique, varied, and ambitious SMS game from compile, and is similar to the guardian legend on the nes in concept.
I loved this game, the first SMS game I played through in its entirety (mind you, I never owned an SMS... I played it via Power Base Converter which I scored last year).
You do need to account for typos but its pretty easy to figure out what they meant. Just remember there's a secret on every screen.
I went ahead and picked it up.
It's a good game, but it's very annoying that you have to use the Pause button on the console itself to switch items...
I got the game and I am really enjoying it. Best SMS game I own so far ( i don't own many)
The forever respawning enemies are sometimes annoying and the controls can be finicky but I don't have other complaints. On the 4th crystal now.
i was looking into that the other day in the hopes there was a way to add FM sound to the US SMS. I would do it. I have to look up this game but I've heard Y's in FM and it is amazing over the normal version. Like night and day difference.
thing is you never actually have to go into the menu. There is no reason to. If you need to know how much gold you have, just go into any hole and find out. So I find the pause thing to not be an issue. Now if you had switch items/weapons, say like Legend of Zelda, then it would be VERY annoying.
This pause button issue is one reason why it's great to play SMS games on a GG with a converter. GG's start button acts as the SMS's pause.
As for Golvellius, shame that the sequel promised in the ending never came about.
I'm trying to like Govellius, but the hit detection in the top/down areas is awful, I'm trying to get around that. I have the cartridge and box, but no manual. I assume the game would be better if I read that manual...
i didnt have the manual, I dont know why you would need it.
the hit detection seems pretty good to me though I usually am just mashing both buttons the whole time to swing. The hit detection never left me high and dry.
