Very impressive!

Considering the EEPROM Writer, which one do you guys consider the best and most easy to use?

I really would love to make Cartdriges of the translated Fire Emblem Snes games!

I got it eventually. A mixture of a file's handle, a quick vice and finger pain opened it w/o breakage. Now to get FF2 and some EPROMS.

What the Japanese will do to save a buck on production costs. I've got a guy sending me a Famicom cart to have the chips swapped so I've gotta worry about breaking 'em on someone else's game. That sucks.

The guy I get my chips through on the fleaBay is "connectors_usa". His prices are good and they are at my door two days after purchase every single time. Not trying to be a shameless plug, but he sells good stuff and ships fast, so he deserves the good word being spread :)

My next cart to get the EPROM job is Just Breed. Does anyone have the pinouts for the EKROM mask chips? They're their own beast, apparently...

Does the ebay guy burn them or just sells EPROMS?

I don't think it is a good idea to pay for someone to burn the eproms for you. A simple programmer isn't expensive. Well, you also need an eraser (I just gave up trying to erase my eprom in the sun and with a UV lamp) and possibly adapters for different memory types.

Has anyone been sucessful with SNES Der Langrisser retro?

My two prior repros were off EPROMS from gamereproductions and I'm planning on going through him for the next two as well. My only complaint is that it takes a month even to just get EPROMS sent.

I know I'm probably a little late on this, but i've got a question for Kogami.
i saw that you made a DBZ: Hyper Dimension Repro, and i was wondering, what donor and replacement eprom did you use?
also, how did you wire it in there?

I picked mine up off of ebay, cost me about $40, and will do all the stuff for nes/snes games except for TSOP and the 40 pin chips.

and kogami,
Would i be correct in assuming that you just took the japanese cart, then wired in the chip as you would for a Star Ocean cart, that is, omit pins 1 and 33, then reroute pin 44 from the board, and send it to pin 33 on the eprom?

Is that the Willem burner or another one? Been really interested in the Willem considering the price point and it seems to do what we'd need it to do.

yeah, it's the willem.
i've been using mine for a while now, and once i figured it out, i never even had an issue with bad burns or anything.

also, you will want an eprom eraser.
scratch that, NEED an eprom eraser.

i did a quick check on ebay for the programmers, and it looks like the price has gone down a bit, i'm seeing some for as low as $25 + shipping.

anyway, a willem is probably your safest bet for an initial programmer.

I have a question about the modding. It's probably a little stupid, though.
If I want to make a game that has 32 Mbit ROM and 256 K RAM, I'd need a donor cart with those exactly specs?

Thanks dude! I'm in the process of making some more for some members of Sega-16. As of now the Advanced Military Commander title is refusing to save, so I'll likely have to do that one over again. I don't know what the issue is, I'm just hoping it's a bad battery. The game saves fine in an emu, so I would think it should work fine on actual hardware.

As for the technological aspect of reproductions, I'm the last guy to ask. There are a lot of dudes here that are a lot more savvy in that regard, so hopefully they can chime in for you.

easy peasy:

use a NBA action 94 cart.
get a 27c160 eprom chip.
apply the region free/save conversion patch.
burn the rom to the chip with the swap byte function.
direct replacement on the solder.

DONE.

I'm wanting to do a repro of the Yu yu hakusho fighting game for Genesis.
the thing is, the rom file is 3 MB, but the eproms only do 1, 2, and 4 MB
would using a 4 MB eprom work, or do i need to pad out the rom file somehow?

I did wily wars as shown above this Monday (late to work cause of snow.) It was a piece of cake.

As I said above, I get my chips from gamereproductions.com because I'm too lazy to attempt burning myself :)

While this topic is still somewhat recent, I have a question:

I want to take one of the BS Zelda Games, specifically the 16 bit version of the original game, the "Third Quest", and put it on a cartridge. I already have the rom that's translated, and I've seen sites that offer burning services, what how can I tell what kind of board it needs?

Also, gamereproductions.com's rom chips work with SNES games, correct?

bartre
01-13-2011, 03:48 PM
the BS zelda games are an odd beast, afaik, only one of them will work on real hardware, and it requires you to have patched the game in a specific way.

but, on to your question, open snes9x, and in the menu bar, one of the options will be "rom information" or something like that, and it'll tell you what kind of donor board you'll need. from there, pick another rom, preferably one of a cheap game, and then do the same until you find one that matches in the aspects of HiRom or LoRom, FastRom or SlowRom, and the SRAM size.

Tupin
01-13-2011, 04:51 PM
Here's what I got:

Speed: 80/SlowROM
Rom Map: HiROM
SRAM Size: 64kb (512kbit)

bartre
01-13-2011, 04:54 PM
okay, that's an easy one, my usual donor for that type would be a copy of super play action football, but double check.
as for the game actually working, i'm not sure, haven't made a BS zelda cart before

Tupin
01-13-2011, 09:17 PM
Got this from Super Play Action Football:

Speed: 20/SlowROM
ROM Map: LoROM
Header ROM Size: 8Mbits
Calculated ROM Size: 8 Mbits
SRAM size: 8KB (64Kbit)

bartre
01-13-2011, 09:34 PM
hmm, then no, i guess that's not an acceptable donor, i can't think of a good one off the top of my head.

Tupin
01-13-2011, 11:00 PM
So I need one that has the same attributes listed above? Anyone have an idea of a game that could be a donor?

I saw that a guy made a repro earlier in the thread, the French guy.

Also, all attributes have to match? It has to have SlowROM, HiROM, and 64kb of SRAM?

Try a website like gamereproductions or hobbyroms.com.

The BS Zelda repro, sadly, is too ambitious. Can't save data. I'll use the stuff learned to make either a Wily Wars or Sailor Moon reproduction.

Any ideas where I can find a Wily Wars label?

bartre
01-19-2011, 12:27 AM
I'd say that a Wily Wars cart would be your best option, as when you put the sailor moon RPG on a real cart, the intro gets kind of glitchy.

honestly though, i believe that the two repros everyone needs are Shin Megami Tensei and Clock Tower.

As for the label, try checking thecoverproject for something, i found it on there, or another similar site. just make sure to photoshop the label at 300 DPI

Where is a good resource to learn about how to do the programming and wiring to create these repro carts and custom carts? I was also looking into buying an Eprom programmer because i read they were fairly cheap on these forums but on Ebay its about 100$ CND, just wondering if that sounds right.

it's probably gonna depend on the game AND maybe depend on how many you're getting at once. And if his costs have gone up at all, he'd be expected to commit to the prices he gave the last person even if (for some reason) it was costing him more now.

Holy overkill batman! Seriously, that's just mindblowing. How the heck did you even print that box? Pretty soon we'll be making 100% new SNES games too, with new cartridge shells (like what Bunnyboy has on NES), new boards, cloned Nintendo-proprietary chips and... Oh what the hell, lets throw in new fabricated mask ROMs. At this rate, anything's possible. First the NES, then Genesis (Watermelon made Pier Solar with 100% new parts), now eventually SNES. Probably once it receives it's own killer homebrew app. Like Battle Kid on NES and Pier Solar on Genesis.

I'm pretty interested in having NTSC ENG reproductions of Darxide and Sangokushi IV: Wall of Fire for the 32X done.

Does anyone have a guide to printing out boxes and manuals? There's a bunch I want to make and I may as well buy up a printer to make them with if i'm going to do a lot of them.

BTW, is the guy who does these boxes a member here?

Kogami, I'd love to buy some NTSC repros and boxes, etc. If you're selling, I'm buying.
