If my math is right, it is something like $35 US, which still seems high, even for a factory sealed game. Unless that is just the original retail sticker?

Picked these up today locally.
Beatmania controller and game $20 - now I need a PS2

Picked this up only because I had never seen it before - $10. It's soundtracks from the games pictured. It is missing the Sonic disc though. if anybody has one they want to part with send me a PM.
http://img387.imageshack.us/img387/3396/p9010004yk5.jpg
I also got a Zelda Oracle of Seasons/Ages strategy guide for $5 and a SOCOM II strategy guide for $5. Today at Blockbuster I got Red Steel and Metal Slug Anthology for the Wii for $10 each. Was tempted to get Rockstar Table Tennis for $15 but passed.

I kicked off the month with two spare Nintendo Gamecube cases. Each case had a white precautions manual in it. 50 cents each.

Started off the month rather well.
At the flea market I found
Disk Only Intelligent Qube PS1-$2: It was basically the first table I looked at when I walked in and I already found the deal of the day
Complete Secret of Monkey Island and disk only Shining Force CD- both for $50. Not quite the deal I got on the IQube but he originally wanted $65 for both but was able to talk him down to the 50.
Edit: oh and at the same flea market, my brother had some vendor get upset with him because he tried offering him $10 for something marked $15. I don't really think that is unreasonable, and in most cases when somebody offers a price like that then they'd usually counter with a $13 price or something. I just never saw something like that, usually they calmly say "no I can't do it for that." I'm sure its more common than I think it would be thoguh.

Picked up an orange Stunner (Saturn gun) for 2.99 at goodwill today. First time I tried it the start button worked, and the system would recognize a trigger pull but it wouldn't register a shot. Had to clean the connector where it plugs into the console, works great now.

Been a while since I've had any Gamecube Goodness. I actually was 2nd to reply to this CL ad, but turns out the guy didn't show to pick it up last night, so I got a crack at it today. When I picked it up, she said 1st guy emailed to say he forgot!
Not too shabby for $75. Too bad Gamecube consoles are practically worthless, though this one does have the component jack.

Those two Pikmin games would easily sell for $75 together on ebay. I think gamestop gives $10-15 for the console and another $15 or so for Super Smash Bros. Good deal.

Went to a pawn shop that I've only been to twice since moving to Alaska (Their prices are terrible but I was looking for a specific dvd set used) and right when I was about to leave a lady asked about selling some games and movies they said they don't give much on most games or movies but she could bring them in. So I followed her outside and asked if I could see them first.
So I got all these from her for $12 (all complete and as mint as mint can be)
Mega Man Legends 2 (ps1)
Breath of Fire 4 (ps1)
Kingdom under fire: the crusaders (xbox)
Metal Gear Solid 2 (xbox)
Hitman 2 (xbox)
Sonic Mega Collection Plus (ps2)
She said these were rummage sale left over, I wish I knew what other playstation games were at the rummage sale and why I had to work and miss rummaging this past weekend.

Gone today was another new copy of Lion King & Jungle Book along with a complete copy of some tank game & Deep Duck Trouble Starring Donald Duck (which I wouldn't have mind getting complete and probably should have grabbed at $2)

Yeah, for as much hate as the Gamecube gets, it really does have some great games. Maybe that's the crux of the 'Nintendo debate', though. Hate for the hardware on one side, love for the games on the other.
Super Monkey Ball Adventure is a new one on me, too. A brief read about it says that it is more of a platformer, rather than a puzzler like the others in the series. Mini-puzzles are still incorporated, though. Sounds pretty cool, I'll have to give it a go sometime.

This is probably a stupid comment but I had no idea that they released Zelda OoT on the Gamecube. What is a special edition or big release?

That's what I was thinking, but wasn't MQ its own game? I thought MQ was all the Zeldas on 1 or 2 GC discs.
theChad
09-02-2008, 10:40 PM
That was the Collector's Edition disc that came with the GameCube (or I think that's how I got it).
Cornelius
09-02-2008, 10:54 PM
There are 2 Gamecube releases with Zelda OoT on it. One is the 'Collector's Edition' that was a pack-in, like theChad said. It has Zelda 1, 2, Ocarina, and Majora's on it. The other release (the one I just picked up and in that pic) is just Ocarina and Ocarina Master Quest. It was a pre-order bonus.
From what I've seen (and these are games I've paid a bit more attention to than others), neither are rare, and I wouldn't even call them uncommon. They are very desirable, though (OoT is just a great game), so the price has remained high. It does seem the Master quest release is a bit less common than the Collector's Edition.
fpbrush
09-02-2008, 10:59 PM
Ah, I had completely forgot about the pack-in version. Thanks for clearing that up Cornelius.
Porksta, MQ was just sort of a "directors cut" of OoT if I recall correctly. It might have also been released on the N64 DD--could someone confirm that?

From what I've read, Master Quest is the version of OoT that was released in Japan, and deemed to be too tough for American kiddies, so the American version of OoT is dumbed down and missing a few of the things that can be found in Master Quest. Could just be rumors, though.

No, we got the same version of the game as Japan did. Master Quest is just a remixed version with different dungeon layouts, etc. and made harder.

Today's finds:
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/2008-09-03-01.jpg
New SATA cables and HD IDE cables - $4 (down from $5). The seller saw me thinking about it and lowered the price, and I told him "I was going to pay you the $5 man!" and he laughed. I need smaller cables, so these will help my PC's airflow.
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/2008-09-03-02.jpg
$2! That's Crystal Method's Vegas album. I already owned it but the CD stank for some reason, so I tossed it two days ago. And now I found a new, mint copy. Hooha. The DVD was a buck too. I used to be a big fan of Puppet Master, let's see if they screwed this one up.
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/2008-09-03-03.jpg
$2 a pop. $2 A POP. The guy had TONS of good games but I could only afford these. Most of 'em are going to eBay, of course. ;p
And a funny story: I was walking towards the exit when I looked at a booth that had DVDs and a Gamecube system. I wasn't interested in the Gamecube, but started looking at his DVDs while another guy looked at the GC. The guy asked for a price and the booth owner said "I'll take no less than $60 for that Gamecube, look, it's in great shape!"
*twitch* I almost ran off right hten and there. But I didn't.
So anyway the guy had the Riddick movie three-pack for sale. (Say whatever you want about those movies, they're decent mindless fun.) I asked for a price, and he said $3 for each DVD, but when he saw me pick that one up he changed the price to $5. I was gonna say "Thanks but I'll pass" when he interrupted me and said "This is one helluva deal! This package retailed new for $69 dollars!"
...
*twitch twitch twitch SNAP*
I laughed. I LAUGHED SO HARD I BARELY KEPT MYSELF STANDING. I walked away while he started saying stuff at me, and I yelled "You're a fucking idiot", and waved at him. He started laughing, probably said something about me but screw that. I wanted to go towards the guy that asked about the Gamecube and tell him "If you wait a bit you can buy one at Gamestop for HALF that price and you get warranty protection!" but I kept quiet.
Ah well. I probably made an enemy for life but I don't care. :P

Well, today I made my first craigslist purchase...
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b122/fpbrush/DSCF0624.jpg
$30, bought from a nice lady selling her son's "old" games. I wouldn't say it's a steal, but I think I got it at a good price (didn't even have to talk her down). Plus, Dreamcast is my favorite system.
Notables are Mark of Wolves and Shenmue (both of which I have already though ^^;). Didn't have any of the others except Crazy Taxi 2--and of course I already had 2 Web Browser 2.0s :|
The Phantasy Star Online is the one with the Sonic 2 demo...apparently this is rare? I don't really know...
No system (her son couldn't find it???), but I already have two, one of which is orphaned. The controllers are nice and I'm glad they were this color as I don't have the variation yet, and it think its one of the better ones.
All in all, good experience, happy with the purchase!

Bah. I actually put my stuff *away* this week...so no pics :(
I actually found CD-i games at my local thrift! OMGWTFHAX...too bad they were crap:
Kether
Berenstain Bears
Then went back the next day to find:
Some Golf game...
$2 a pop - no hardware to be found :(
PS2 in *perfect* condition with 6 awful sports games for $15
Colonization PC-CD minty! $0.50 can't decide if I want to part with it or keep it. I really did enjoy this one 'back in the day'.
Non-Gaming goodness:
Dlink wireless G router $3 (upgrades my B *blush*)
Sound Blaster 5.1 $2
HUGE box of 200+ playmobil figures with accessories $2

I went to a CD/Game Exchange today and traded in a few things. Here's what I got with the credit:
PlayStation:
Darkstone (complete)
Game Boy:
Battletoads (cart only)
Game Gear:
X-Men (cart only)
SNES:
ActRaiser (cart only - I already have a copy, so this is going to a friend that's been looking for it)

Saw some neat stuff at the church thrift today, original GameBoy for $5 but no battery cover, P4 motherboard+proc@1.5ghz for $10, but nothing I really want.
The other thrifts were decent today:

Top 3 things from Goodwill, $3 each. I already have KQ6 on the original compilation, a disk-only copy, and the recent collection, but this is a jewel-case with insert and manual. I also have an updated re-release of X-Wing, but this is the original. What I REALLY want to find, though, is Tie-Fighter on CD. I serve the Emperor.
Found the two books and video at Salvation Army. Those books were $2 each, and the tape was $1. It says Super Mario Bros. 2 on the sleeve, but the label says four other games. Sleeve says Vol 1, No 1, but the tape says the same thing. I need to go hook up a VCR again...

That's the Snake Eater version included in the "essentials" box. I've heard it's essentially Subsistence without MG1 and MG2 emulated.

And it's also missing Snake Vs Monkey Mode (Ape Escape with Old Snake!). It's the only reason why I didn't buy the collection. Friggin' Konami.

That sucks this whole time I thought my essential collection had those emulated NES games. I'm pissed.

MSX. Hideo called the NES Metal Gear "embarrassing" and the NES sequel was non-canon. Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake were released in Japan and Europe on the MSX.
Subsistence still goes for about $25. I'm just now playing the series, so I picked up the regular editions of everything else for cheap, mainly so I can play 4. I'm on 3 right now, and almost two hours into the game, the opening credits play. I love this series lol.

A little story: I was walking around at game crazy and on a whim I asked the clerk if she knew where all the PS1 and N64 games that had been in a bin there had gone. She told me that she was fairly new, but she figured that the new manager had done away with that. I told her "I'm a collector, and this was the last place in town that had anything older than gamecube." Then the awesome moment happenned. She asked me what I collected for. When I told her most anything she told me a friend had given her an NES and like 8 games. Exciting!! But I was also thinking, this is gonna be a process, but the games were in her trunk. Everything was in beautiful condition:
Toaster NES with Power adapter, and RF modulator.
1 regular NES Controller
NES Zapper
Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt/World Class Track Meet
The Guardian Legend
Pac-Man
Bubble Bobble
Jaws
Jordan vs. Bird
Marble Madness
Friday the 13th
She told me she just wanted to get rid of it and I gave her a $20. Probably could've gone cheaper. She has my number now, so that I can get the mat for track and field :)

The fact that she didn't want the NES stuff is a turnoff.

Not really a "find" per se but..
Got the "Final Fantasy III" Bradygames guide yesterday at the local EB/Gamestop shoppy-thing. Couldn't resist the nearby "Over The Hedge" guide for what roughly equals $1.50.
These were my very first guide buys in my history of gaming
Are any guides actually worth keeping an eye out for?
