It has EVERYTHING to do with how Nintendo is becoming a company STRICTLY run by the bottom line while kicking customer satisfaction to the curb. Nintendo absolutely will not and can not survive if they keep on this path. How long will it take the new Nintendo fans to turn away because of these BS policies? When Nintendo alienates these new "non-gamer" fans then who else can they turn to? I know that the fans in the "hardcore" gamer group are already leaving them in droves. Many purists that hate DLC and refuse to pay $5 for a SMB game are leaving. You have people leaving because a they can't play a Japanese game because it's locked out by territory. People are leaving because they can't even get their hand on a Wii because of a 2+ year factory "shortage". These are REAL sticking points for gamers that can't be ignored. Thrash me all you want but this is happening NOW and there is no way to deny it.

You sir are an idiot. Here are the facts.

NPD November Sales Numbers:

- Wii - 2,040,000
• Nintendo DS - 1,570,000
• Xbox 360 - 836,000
• PSP - 421,000
• PlayStation 3 - 378,000
• PlayStation 2 - 206,000

Over 2 million Wiis were sold in November ALONE. There is no shortage, there is no conspiracy. They are still flying off the shelves, and they are printing money. Even if Nintendo makes a HUGE Blunder with the "Wii2" there is no way they are going anywhere with all the income made from both the DS and the Wii. Shit while we are at it, lets look at the software sales for November, specifically the top 20 games sold:

http://gamasutra.com/images/top-20-nov-2008_2.png

So we have the following:Wii Play, Wii Fit, Mario Kart Wii, Wii Music, Animal Crossing City Folk, Pokemon Ranger, and Mario Kart DS all FIRST PARTY TITLES. Oh yeah just so you are counting, those all are eligible for coins on Club Nintendo. This doesn't include Rock Band and Guitar Hero for Wii which are on that list as well! So out of the top 20 games sold in November, 9 are games for Nintendo Systems.

Next Note. DLC isn't for purists. It's for Joe Average to relive the games they played in 1985. You want pure? Buy a cartridge. They are making money hand over fist via the Virtual Console.

Short point, NO ONE IS LEAVING except a very small percentage. In fact, they are gaining more and more fans that have never been exposed to videogames by the SECOND. If YOU want to leave Nintendo, then fine go ahead and do so. But 2.04 million people who bought the Wii last month are staying.

How do you register games that do not have a serial number card? My only Wii games that have one are Zelda and Super Smash Brothers.

You can't, dunno about the future though I doubt they will have a system to register games without the card. They won't know if you actually have the game or went to a store and copied the sku.

I actually called Nintendo about this. They said the only way is to send them the UPC codes from the cases of the games you bought that didn't come with the PIN number, along with a note stating your name/address/etc.

I kinda want to send them in, but I don't really want to cut up my inserts.

Cutting off the UPC sorta ensures that they don't give out too many extra coins, I guess. Arg, how many DS/Wii games am I going to find in the future with little squares cut out of the slide cover? Crap. LOL

That's definately a horrible option. I don't want to cut-up all of my case inserts! Nintendo needs to figure out a different method.

Anyone want to trade extra codes? Knowing that Club Nintendo was coming here eventually I've been in the habit of keeping these cards over the last few years and have got extra codes for Zelda TP (wii), Metroid Prime 3 (wii), and Zelda PH (ds).

Well, it's worth a shot!

Interested in the following Wii games:
Animal Crossing: City Folk, Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree, Endless Ocean, Mario Super Sluggers, WarioWare: Smooth Moves, Wii Fit, Wii Music

and DS games:
Animal Crossing: Wild World, Electroplankton, Kirby Super Star Ultra, Mystery Case Files: MillionHeir, Nintendogs: Dalmatian and Friends, Nintendogs: Labrador Retriever and Friends, Nintendogs: Miniature Dachshund and Friends, Personal Trainer: Cooking, Planet Puzzle League, Pokemon Diamond, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness, Pokemon Ranger, Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, Yoshi's Island DS

Yes I cut out all the games I'll probably be buying any ways. :P PM if interested, danke!

I just converted over from my old Registration to Club Nintendo. The only registered games that it let me complete surveys for was Animal Crossing and Super Mario 64. I'll need to go through my games and see if it will let me register them or not. I've been rather lax in registering my titles lately so I probably have a bunch more that will net me some more coins. I'm definitely interested in getting the domestic release of the Game and Watch Collection.

I got a response on World of Goo from Nintendo.Com, apparently a post-play survey for it will appear in a few weeks time. So guess I'll have to check in January to see if I can "earn" my 10 coins for it if that's the case.

@ Cobra Commander
You know, you earn your status based on coins earned, and the status doesn't go down if you spend the coins. Say if you earn 400 coins, spend the 400, then earn 200 more coins, you'll still earn the "Platinum" status. The only time the status resets is as the end of the "Club Nintendo year", which is June 30. :)

I'm a little bummed that the "intend to buy" 10-coin bonus isn't working yet. Wanted to buy Pokemon Ranger and am going to "have to" do it soon to get the Darkrai event over wi-fi...but won't be able to "intend to buy it" to get bonus points. I'm sure the whole thing will get more features soon, though. None of the prizes right now "wow" me, but sooner or later I'm sure they'll have some must-have schwag.

Soundtracks would be nice...but if they're of the same quality as the Twilight Princess one, then maybe I'll hold onto my points. Wonder if bonus points are going to be doled out to Nintendo Power subscribers?

joshnickerson
12-26-2008, 10:40 PM
The "Intend To Buy" feature might be for games that haven't been released yet.

And since Nintendo Power was pushed off to another publisher, I doubt they'll be very involved with Club Nintendo, if at all.

so out of all you interested in this program, how many of you achieved either gold or platinum status already?
out of about 60 ds games and about 15 wii games, I got barely 700 points, wonder what's the bonus for platinum status this year...

I had platinum status within the first 24 hours of the program being live. I've put in enough games to register just over 1k coins as of right now, and i've got a bunch more DS to still enter, but i'm waiting for now. No need to rush all the games.

I can understand why some people are frustrated with the service.
If I bought a Nintendo-published game at full retail price, registered it, and didn't recieve any coins, I'd probably feel the same way.

It's a shame that they don't at least give 1 little coin to people that've bought and registered products prior to the Wii and DS generation. It's definitely not good PR whenever Nintendo alienates their core users.

Just my 2 coins. (lolols)

Between the Wii and the DS, they've sold 133 million systems this gen, and if anything, sales are speeding up...who is this alleged "increasingly growing disgruntled fan base" you keep mentioning?

And while I'm at it...if you want GBA games, then I want all my NES and original Game Boy games to count, oh, and I have a card deck then made 50 years ago too!! I WANNA REGISTER THAT TOO, cheapskates! They have to draw a line somewhere... systems that are still alive kinda makes sense.

I'd settle for all my DS and Wii stuff being recognized. Sure, it'd be nice if they did the same for GC and GBA stuff as they came with the codes and all, but I'd settle with what systems they are currently supporting for now.

I own two copies of Animal Crossing for the DS. It's a supported game that should give 30 coins. I paid full price for both copies. I registered one copy and got full points for it. I tried to register the second copy and it won't let me. It tells me that I've already registered that game.

What does it care? I paid for the game. I've got a valid PIN to register, yet I'm being screwed because I'm an (overly) loyal customer. what the hell? At first I was going to register an account for my wife and register it under hers, but I want the points in my account and she'll never accumulate enough points to make it worth giving her an account.

Is there any way to resolve this? Would making a family account help?

edit: It looks like a family account should help. I think it allows members in the family group to share coins between accounts, so I could create an account for my wife, register the game in her name, and basically treat those coins as my own. Can anyone confirm this?

From what I read(awhile ago) it won't help you get points. You'd be able to register the extra game by creating a family account, but you wouldn't be able to get points for it. I'll try to find where I read this, I hope I'll find it again.

I haven't registered any of my games yet, all I want is that Game and Watch game but there's no way that I would have enough first party games to get it. I would have kept an eye out for cheap games just so I could register them, but seeing that I can only register 1 copy for each game, I wouldn't bother. Maybe I'll get enough someday, until then I won't register.

Edit: I found it in the FAQ, I was right.

Why can't I register more than one of any product in my Club Nintendo account?
You can register as many of any one product (systems or games) as there are members in your Family Account. Please note that only the first game registered will be eligible for the survey and Coins.

Goddamnit! Why would they do that? I paid for the damn thing twice I should get points for each purchase.

I can understand not giving points for older systems because they don't make money off of that, but come on, if I purchase Smash Bros. Brawl 10 times, they make 10 times the money and I should get 10 times the coins. Fuck that Nintendo, Fuck that.

Gameguy, I'm not shooting the messenger here, I do really appreciate the help. Thanks for the finding that.

Gameguy, I'm not shooting the messenger here, I do really appreciate the help. Thanks for the finding that.
No worries, I know you were directing that at Nintendo.

Only thing I can think of is exchanging codes with other people who have multiple copies of games, if you have a few copies of Brain Age exchange codes with someone who has multiple copies of Professor Layton, etc.

There's no way I can afford to get enough first party games to get that Game and Watch, unless I can find used copies for cheap somewhere($5-$10 each). Or even Wii games just to register and then sell off. I have the original DS so I can't even register that(only the Lites qualify).

I like the DS and there are games that I really enjoy, but I don't know if it's really worth investing that much into it. I can tell there will be some problems with it eventually. There's ridges on the connectors so cleaning the cards will be a problem, I've already had some used games that couldn't be recognized, I had to reinsert the game a few times to get it to work(I'm not sure what to use to clean them, Q-tips don't fit). Plus I really would have prefered if it used standard batteries instead of rechargeable, the batteries for the original DS are already discontinued so I hope mine won't wear out anytime soon. If I'm on a long road trip and the battery goes dead I'm screwed, I can't just buy some more at a gas station and there's no way to recharge it at that moment. Even the older systems that used regular batteries had optional rechargeable packs available, just to save on the cost of batteries.

Gameguy, you could always get a car charger or usb charger. I made a usb charger for my original DS in about 10 minutes using an old usb cable I had sitting around.

Gameguy, you could always get a car charger or usb charger. I made a usb charger for my original DS in about 10 minutes using an old usb cable I had sitting around.
That's true, I could get a car adapter. I don't really take my portable systems with me though, it was more of a hypothetical problem(having to always buy extra stuff to get around preventable design issues bothers me too). What happens to me is when I finally get a chance to really play some DS games, the light turns orange and dies shortly afterwards, I have to wait a few hours for it to recharge and there goes my playtime. Where I like to sit and play there's no spare outlet, I recharge my DS in the kitchen and I don't want to stand by the counter to play(it happened to me yesterday, the first time I got a chance to play it in months).

As for the codes, I'm not even sure if the codes are game specific. Are they just randomly inserted into different first party games? Would you be able to say that they're from any game you wanted? Maybe worth a shot.

There's also a way to get bonus points, there's a wish list on Club Nintendo where you can list games that you're planning to get. If you purchase a game on your wish list and register it you'll get 10 additional points. Just add games to your wish list before registering them. I'll try to find where I read this.

Edit: I found it.

How can I earn Coins?
You can earn Coins by:

* Registering a Wii or Nintendo DS game and completing a quick survey.
o Wii games = 50 Coins
o Nintendo DS games = 30 Coins
o Wii Shop Channel games and Wii Channels = 10 Coins
* Indicating your intent to buy a game. You'll earn 10 extra Coins after you buy it, register it and complete the survey.
* Registering a Nintendo game and completing a quick survey within 4 weeks of its launch. You'll earn an additional 10 Coins!
* Completing a Post Play survey that will be available within 4-6 after the release of a game. You'll earn an additional 10 Coins!

I wonder when they'll get around to using the "intend to buy" thing. I'd definatley be more apt to buy something if they'd start that up.

The only thing about this that's bugging me, is that they make you wait up to 6 weeks before you can do the survey for Wii Shop Channel games. I don't need 6 weeks to tell you how I feel about Secret of Mana.

I would trade you for it, if I have anything you're interested in(I have other DS games). I wouldn't spend that much cash on one though, no more than $20. If you'd rather hold out for something better from them, that's cool too. Of course you'd have to wait till the next swap meet to meet up with me if you wanted to trade.

It'll probably be an R8. It's already expensive on ebay for some reason, though the price would probably drop soon. Look at this completed auction. :o

As far as potential rarity, you have to assume it will be up there along with the most obscure. Look at mail-order/club only games in the past. Quadrun... Sonic SMS etc.

I'll quote myself from the last page, taken from Nintendo's FAQ.

You can register as many of any one product (systems or games) as there are members in your Family Account. Please note that only the first game registered will be eligible for the survey and Coins.

The main reason for family accounts is so your kids can have an account, so Nintendo can get market research about what type of games are played by different people from different ages. I don't see any other benefits to anyone else, maybe I'm missing something.

I'm guessing that sometime next year they will release Game & Watch collection #2 since thats now out for Club Nintendo Japan.

GameGuy: I think you're going to end up waiting for a US copy for quite a while only offering 20 bucks (heck japanese copies are still selling for close to 40). To get a US copy you've got to enter 800 bucks worth of games to get it.

Doing a quick search on ebay, i'm not seeing any US copies up there right now. This one will be one of the more scarce US games for the DS bar none. 150 is steep now, but Elektroplankton is selling for 80+ pretty regularly and that was orderable for a while.

Gameguy
01-12-2009, 03:52 AM
I'm only willing to pay around $20 because there's only 3 games on it and I have the same games on previous Game and Watch Gallery collections. These games would play better on the DS because of having 2 screens(compared to the Gameboy/Color versions), but I'm not desperate to get it, and I can wait several years. I can always get the original handhelds if I'm desperate.

I'll check out that Game and Watch 2 that's out in Japan, I didn't know it was out. I'd like to know what games are on it.

I'm having an issue and I was wondering if anyone else had this as well.
I have to do a survey on Mega Man 3. When I go to the survey page, it's just blank. There a huge empty space where the survey should be.

I was having that problem with other games. I ended up using a different we browser to get to those surveys.

I posted in B&S. But I have an extra Animal Crossing code for trade.

So ... assuming you had 1,320 points, would you spring for the G&W Collection or wait for something better to come down the warp pipe?

I have 800 and I'm waiting for something better.

Considering the game only has 3 G&W games on it, I'd wait. It seems like a collector-driven type of product anyway. Not something you buy to play. Why they couldn't just include ALL the G&W games on 1 DS cartridge is beyond me.

Then again, I seem to remember that we're not supposed to disparage any of these "free" items. Just be thankful we get them at all.

One post play survey done, now on 600 points and platinum status. I got a bunch of other surveys to take but I might wait to do them... platinum status resets in June correct? But the points last for two years? Memory fuzzy this morning...

Oh Nintendo, you dirty little bitch. You make me feind like a crack whore and want to spend 100's of dallors to get .35 cents worth of plastic. You are like a legal crack dealer and you know it. You sell to little kids and get them hooked when there young. I've been adicted since I was 11. Now I'm a daily user. I need help! XP

They'd have to pay people to program them for the DS, I don't think they'd want to do that for every DS game all at once(to give away for free). The original games came out with LCD screens, they can't simply be ported or emulated on the DS(they need to be simulated with new graphics made to look like the original LCD screens).

The surveys themselves have expiration dates, but I don't think the coins do...
