If I was driving in I wouldn't be taking a shuttle from DT to hotel and back.
I'm taking megabus from Chicago union station to DT Mil greyhound/amtrak station (8.50 rt)
the shuttle is 75.60 from DT to hotel and back(37.80 each trip).
which is less then what it would be if I didn't book at discount.
if I sell out of my t-shirts I am selling at the show, it cover at least one half of travel cost.

Just to answer the question from the poll, it will be no problem to set up a customized badge for everyone on the list. I have a template set up that goes very quickly. Here are some samples of how other name lengths and different types of avatars look in this format:

GWH, those are pretty good. Nice designs and recognizable. And I'm sure GAC woudn't mind them already made up LOL I think that Vectorman's is alright too, given it's got some good space. And I get why you went with your design, GAC. It just has that flavor of an old digital press newsletter. But recognizability is the main factor I think. Whatever badge is chosen I hope just reflects that.

Went ahead and did all of these while watching a movie last night, so in case this design gets selected, I wouldn’t have to do them all at the last minute. If you signed up for a badge, your design should be on one of these sheets. If I’ve left anyone off, missed an avatar, or misspelled a name, please let me know.

Thanks,
Rich

Love the badge art BTW. I keep all my badges from various gaming shows. In fact I still have my very first badge from CGE 2K1.

EDIT: Actually I just found my PhillyClassic 2 badge (the Intellivision cartridge) which would technically be my first. :)

You guys are lucky, I could never afford to fly up to Milwaukee on such a short notice. Someone really ought to bring an event like this to the southern half of the Midwest, Missouri and Illinois are Midwestern too.

Have fun this weekend, I guess. Hey, at least there are some stores where I live that are going up there and are coming back with new stuff. :-D

Maybe next year...

The ink isn't even dry on all this news... Just a couple updates for the people coming from here, in nutshells. Check out the site for more.

We've teamed with The Sci Fi Channel and their new show WCG: Ultimate Gamer and will have an exclusive preview (never before seen!) of Episode 3, as well as get to play the first two episodes at the show.

We've announced the full speaking and presentation schedule.

We've announced the line up of pinball machines in the pinball tournament and upped the prizes. And if you enter, on your first entry you get a one hour free play card at GameWorks Schamburg while supplies last, which is one heck of a deal (you can play the new pins there)!

I have a feeling this is going to be a great year to be a guest at the show! Hope to see you all there!

Not outgrow -- just grow into the event that we always thought it could be.

And unlike a lot of shows with sponsors like what we go, there was no bending over backwards by us to get them. In fact, they came to us and are operating within our rules for being at the show, I didn't make the first contact with them.

We're at our heart and will remain as long as I am involved a show by gamers for gamers, and it just so happens that the gamers at The Sci Fi Channel and Sony have decided that we're worth paying attention to :D

Thanks so much for the kind words! I posted this in another thread though, and it is worth repeating here:

A quick moment just to thank JD for having done this as well as everything else he has done for the show. Without him, it wouldn't be that great of a show.

Same goes for Marty, Don, Mark, Jim, Max, Kent, Kyle, Nick, Matt, Evan, Jason, Jeri, Gina, Suzi, Lynne, Dave, Dale, Jen, Jeff, Tom, Tom's kids, Dave, Terry, Ken, Ben, the 25 or so people who bring arcade games, the 30+ vendors, the amazing line up of speakers, probably another 25 really important names I'm forgetting because it is too late, and most importantly [your name here].

This show would be Gary and I standing in a room with a few of my busted pinball machines (and maybe one or two working ones, if I was lucky), a Jaguar, a Dreamcast and some random GOAT Store stuff. It is *everyone* who believes in the show and supports it through the work they do and the time they devote to it who really make it into such a huge event. I have kept telling people this year that I can't wait to see what it looks like when we're done, and it's true -- I'm probably just as giddy as everyone else.

Thank you all for helping make this possible, and I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I do! See you at the show in few days!!

---

Oh, and your comment about outgrowing our location -- We hit the walls a few weeks ago, so we've definitely done that. We actually had to stop selling vendor space because we were just done. We've managed to get about 35% more vendors this year than ever before, not to mention the whole slew of displays and whatnot...

In fact, there is a 75% chance we'll have a 2010 (and 2011 and 2012) contract signed before the show begins on Saturday. We're trying to wrap it up to tell at least all the vendors when, where and how much it will be next year... as we're going to move to a bigger location, and we're trying our best to not have to increase participant prices much with that move.

But I'm really pumped about this year -- I just put back together my Pin*Bot last night, and it looks marvelous! Now I feel like I can relax (and start loading lotsa trucks!)

Goatdan,
even though it is early to say thanks for putting onthe show,
I would like to say the same exact words everybody else is saying, you guys put on a great show, and this goes back to early days when it was Jagfest 2k1 (I had to miss your 2002 show because I was busy putting jagfest 2k2 togther with some other people in MO(big disaster) and I went to vegas for CGE2k2 later on)
but I've been to every one of your shows except 2007 and was part of the staff (as the guy behind the sceens, since I can't do much being in IL and not driving(thank goodness for megabus and the shuttle)
it sure great to see a show that started out as a small gathering for atari gamers to what is now the bigest electronic gaming expo in the midwest.

One thing i'd like to mention, the price on single tables you'd had listed for 70, then when i'd had some cash to get a table, you'd jacked it up to 120. That disappointed me. I understand that you had quite a demand for vendor spaces, but I'd just like you to keep this in mind. It took the opporitunity away from me to sell at your show.

I noticed that too that when a single table at the start was 65.00 then it went up 70.00
when I signed up.
the show is costing me 170.00(100 for sponsorship, which doesn't give me much and 70 for my table.past shows my tables were free because I was running the jagfest section in the museum/event hall.next year I'll prob just get a table and save some cash(no offense dan,

Quick replies to everyone...

Any idea where this bigger location is going to be?

Yes, but we're working through electrical requirements. We demand a LOT of juice to run as much as we run, and we need to ensure we can afford to continue to run it. I would expect an announcement on that as well as dates for the next show within the next two weeks, but not until the show is over.

One thing i'd like to mention, the price on single tables you'd had listed for 70, then when i'd had some cash to get a table, you'd jacked it up to 120. That disappointed me. No, and unfortunately we are well aware of this. The reason that we did this was twofold:

1) After a certain point, the location starts charging us for changes made at the last moment a "penalty" if you will to get things changed.

...and, more importantly...

2) When we did that, we literally had NO spots left and needed to stop selling space. It's not that we didn't want more people at the show, it is that we ended up vastly overselling vendor space and not realizing it until it was practically too late. After a full night where Gary and I sat down with the map, we realized that unless we moved every arcade video / pinball out of the room (which would be darn hard considering that the arcades are growing this year too), we had literally hit the edge of what we could do. If it makes you feel better, we cut the size of the GOAT Store in less than 1/3rd of what it was last year to fit everyone how it was.

100 for sponsorship,which doesn't give me much

While the sponsorship packages don't necessarily include much other than the advertising opportunities that we create for the people who do it, the fact it we also limit these (check the site, they are also sold out) and anyone who has become a sponsor is recognized as having been part of the show forever. What other... well, anything could you spend a relatively small amount of money and be listed with such huge companies as Six Flags, The Sci Fi Channel, GameWorks and Stern Pinball at the same level?

We've worked very hard to ensure that sponsorship packages are affordable and that the
"average" person can afford them, just like vending at the show. However, since we're getting all this huge interest, we're having to play a game between making it affordable for everyone and having too many people sign up.

Sponsorships would be worthless if we had 50 people signed up. But at the same time, if 50 people want in, we need to then figure it out to make it fair for everyone, which would normally mean raising the price somewhat. We haven't done that because we want to continue to offer the opportunity to those who have helped us grow.

We aren't other shows where you have one big company become involved and suddenly it is the Microsoft show (with other stuff). It's OUR show as gamers, and as long as Gary and I are here, even if companies like Sony and The Sci Fi Channel join us, it is on OUR terms, which makes it better for everyone.

The Midwest Gaming Classic is *your* show as gamers, and the thing we're going to need everyone to understand over the next few years as we move to a location that is going to cost us a minimum of four times as much as the current one does, as well as start doing a lot more is that we may have to raise prices a little here and there, however if we are unaffordable for small groups to come and vend, I feel something went wrong.

Sorry that we sold out of stuff this year, it's just the way things happen when you get to this size. I think we're going to have the same "problem" next year, so just make sure if you're interested to sign up early!

Hope to see you all at the show!

Chander arrived in Green Bay safely. We went to the settlement after loading the truck full of arcade machines.

We have been drinking for the past 4 hours.

See you guys tomorrow.

Sooo...I had to miss Saturday because work had me come in all day :bawling: However, it looks like I won't have to come in tomorrow, so I at least get to make one day of MGC! Better than nothing! See everyone tomorrow!

Crazy busy...selling a ton...meeting a bunch of people...first time it's been slow enough to post since 10 am...only thing that sucks about being a vendor is not seeing the rest of the show!

I came.. I saw... I bought wayy too much. Thanks to Darren for the use of the room for the baby - it helped (... to allow me to buy more stuff...) since the wife and kid were comfortable! ;)

Talked to the usual crowd (Carey85, Perkar, GrandAm, Drexel and VM) and the normal crowd that couldn't remember who I was but say hey anyway (Ianoid) and then attempted to say hi to the people who walked by and kept walking (Tempest and friends ;)).

It was way busier than I thought it would be but I walked out with some good stuff (Panasonic MSX2, some PCE and 2600 stuff). Looked, drooled but kept walking by Telegames Lite (ermm.. sorry, Songbird) and played a bit of 10 person Quake in one of the conference rooms. Good show guys!

I spoke at 3:00PM to a good sized crowd, then SOMEONE tried following me to my hotel room. Fellas... I know Kung Fu... don't think about it.

My boss has had me request another speaking time tomorrow. GoatDan has me scheduled at 11:00 tomorrow.

I was just amazed at the size of the crowd this year. I got in around 11, got my wrist band and then I practically got whisked away with the river of people flowing past the vendor tables. It took me about an hour before I could actually look at what's for sale. Got to see some DP members again and met some for the first time.

Didn't spend a ton of cash, only found 1 thing on my "hit list" (an original NES poster/catalog I've been trying to find for years) but bought stuff I didn't think of getting. My Intellivision collection definitely got bolstered Saturday.

Most fun moment for me yesterday...Resident Evil CosPlayers buying one of my longbox copies of Resident Evil!

Best part was she said her last name is really Valentine! Great couple, fun to talk to, and happy to pose for a picture. If you didn't come to the show yesterday, and can, go today...5 bucks cheaper to get in, and still tons of great stuff to see, do, and BUY! See you there...

I just got back from spending a few hours there today. It was nice to see old friends again.

I must say to Dan & Gary the show organizers: your show has really grown a ton and is really turned into a quite outstanding show. Congrats on that and keep it up, its nice to have a local show around that is doing so well.
