I really think there are enough reviewers on the internet. Don't embaress yourself my copying the AVGN, but if you feel you have something to say, start a twitter page or facebook or something. And sorry, but you'll have to end up communicating with people if you want to tell them something.

Honestly if you want to get into this form of entertainment, I think you should specalize. Like, only play games on some obscure Japanese PC. Cover ground no one else bothers to do.

I mean my reviews would be very short only like 2-3, 4 at the most, minutes long nothing major.
Also most of what I have is for pretty common systems

Well unfortunately game reviews are very common place and their are literally thousands of them out there to view. The problem is most of them do not really put time into being themselves and try to go for shock/comedic gags to gather views. If you really want to review a game, sit down with a pen and paper and play the thing through from start to finish while keeping notes.
After you have done the necessary homework, begin forming a idea of what you want to talk about from your notes. Other than that you need a good camera and some editing software if you plan to make it viewable. Also, as previously mentioned pick something unusual like Japanese imports or games with few reviews. I doubt anyone would sit through 5 mins on Duck Hunt.

There's a few options you could try.
-Mime reviews
-Plagiarize/steal other reviews and call them your own
-Pay someone to make reviews for you and call them your own

This pretty much sums why you shouldn't.
Nothing you have said in this thread so far would make you stand out from anyone else - and most people who do video reviews are awful.
Of course, it's the internet - you can do as you please regardless of people's opinions, just don't expect anyone to watch.

I don't use a capture card for mine and I've got over 2000 views on some of my older ones.
But of course I talk a bit. but mine are mostly gameplay videos, and show and tell. Not real reviews.
I position the camera at the screen and the 60 or so subscribers I have usually say they enjoy it just as much for the fact I try to go ahead and beat the games that end, or get as far as I can in others.
Youtube is free. you can do whatever you want on there. just let people use the like and dislike option to tell you whether you are good or not.
Urzu402
05-28-2010, 10:36 AM
Though before I even atempt this I would need a new camera. any recomendations? this doesnt have to do with classic gaming but in the end I will be reviewing classic games so it does? One thing I don't want to do is Plagerize. Plagerizism is bad. Rickstilwell1, you just gave me an idea. I consider myself an average gamer with average skill, so maybe I can make a video of me getting as far as possible in a game then add my thoughts in text afterward. So instead of a review show, it will be a look at my not so great gaming skills show. Hows that idea? Also when I said I wasnt good at writing I meant with proper grammar.
Urzu402
05-28-2010, 01:25 PM
Hmmm maybe I really don't want to do reviews like I've said. But what i really want to do something just to show off my collection as unimpressive as it is. I mean people here wont be impressed by it but people on youtube probably would be lol. I made my top 20 Genesis and top 20 SNES videos but they were a pain to make.

Lots of people do those sorts of videos so it's nothing out of the ordinary.
Basically, you'd like to do something that thousands of other people already do. Some of them do it well, some of them not.
Only that you have no idea of how to do it, you haven't got an interesting idea and you lack the equipment to do it.
You've got two options:
a) Do something else. Not video reviews. (The videos are horrible, even if they're only a test. Sorry.)
b) Go on and make a video review. You'll either fade into anonymity or get ridiculed. Or a mixture of both.
I'm sorry, but that's probably the truth.

I have an idea, now for what I would like to do as a video. but I would just need to get the equipment to do it. My idea is only for one video and it has to do with Mega Man X.
Good!
Go and work for a few weeks/months/years and buy the equipment you need. Do the video. Post it on youtube.
Come back here and post a new thread (or several) with the link to the video.

ALWAYS record at 480p or lower. It looks quite amazing on today's HD monitors. Either that or dub it from a VHS tape or a camera with 1.1 megapixels. It'll have nice ambient static and looks super cool on a 52 in. HDTV! Also, swear a lot! You'll become a star in no time, Chris B- I mean, Urzu!

Here's a question in order to be able to record my own videos on an HDTV.
My PC has an HDMI input on the back so I could just hook my PS3 directly to that to record, but what if I happened to be interested in playing the game on my HDTV while recording what is playing on my PC.
There's no way to just get a second HDMI cable and hook it from the TV to the PC because I'll need to because the PS3 would be connected to HDMI1 and obviously the PC will receive no signal from the PS3.
Is there any sort of HDMI for input to the PS3 and then two on the other side where one can go to my TV the other to my PC?
Kitsune Sniper
05-29-2010, 03:10 PM
There are such things as HDMI splitters which take one signal and uh, split it into two, so you could plug your PS3 to it, run one cable to your TV, and one to your PC.
In theory.
Who knows if there's any quality loss.

Wasn't the Easycap mentioned in an earlier thread, with people saying it was decent?
I'd go for games that aren't very common on Youtube. Most of my hits came from complete playthroughs of games people don't like very much (Bad Boys: Miami Takedown) or decent yet overlooked games (The Terminator).

You can't. If you want to make gameplay videos just do either stage by stage videos or just play through a portion of the game as a reference to those looking at the game.
Like my videos for example. Here's Dracula X Chronicles(my favorite PSP game.) I've already gotten 100% before doing the videos and I only run through the stages. Every two bosses I've switched boss music through the games ability to change music in game. I also switched stage 3' music to Bloody Tears PCE CD version instead of the, in my opinion, crappy remade version, stage 5 music to SotN Tower of Evil Fog since it fits better than the pretty bad music stage 5 originally has, and also Cross Your Heart for stage 7 because I don't like stage 7s music on either version, it fits the stage well, and it's a bad ass track.
Here are a couple of the videos. I've even supposedly helped people who couldn't get through the stages just by them watching my videos.

Ummm... Game play video your own? Hard to do, but doable. Maybe 2 player co-op games where the 2 players just try to kill each other all the time. Maybe play games, and make the character do sexually suggestive activities. Maybe add crazy zoom and color effects. Maybe side by side comparison game play. Well, not much to work with here, but maybe these ideas will get your mind going.

Play the games while blindfolded, it would have a Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman kind of vibe. Also mute the sound, put on some other background music from some CDs that you have lying around and try to sing along to them. That would be unique.
