I've finally gotten an opportunity to do some game hunting these last few weeks and already I've managed to get a few really good finds. Here's the photo first off (sorry that the quality sucks):
http://www.inverteddungeon.com/triacesuperfan/storage/finds101010.JPG
I like to group my finds by individual locations/trips, so that's why they'll be broken up weird here:
The Neverhood (PC) - 2.99 (Seems like the value has dropped since the last time I sold one, but still a score. Too bad I never find them with the box and all.)
3 PlayStation 2 memory cards - 2.99 each (I know they're not worth much these days, but still a perfectly fair price to load up at.)
Metal Gear Solid (GBC) - 2.99
8 N64 carts at 1.99 a piece:
Perfect Dark
Diddy Kong Racing
Toy Story 2
Super Mario 64
The Powerpuff Girls: Chemical X-Traction
Lego Racers
South Park
Banjo-Tooie
(Unfortunately, I already have the good stuff, so the licensed games are the ones staying in my collection. Too bad it wasn't Kazooie rather than Tooie since I still need that. But since I was grabbing the others, I figured I may as well take them all since the others will be good for selling or trading.)
Nintendo Game Boy Secrets - 0.99 (Which strangely enough seems to be autographed by Zach Meston to his hairdresser, haha. Also appears to be signed by Richard Reuss, a guy that Zach mentions in his acknowledgments, but I can't say I know who that is.)
The Musical Commodore - 0.99 (I already made a topic about this, but it could potentially be the most valuable item among this stuff by far.)
Final Fantasy X-2 strategy guide - 1.99 (Among a huge stack of guides actually, but it was the only one worth getting. Even though it's not flawless, is missing the poster, and isn't valuable to begin with, I'll pick up just about any guide for a Square Enix game for just 2 bucks.)
Mars Matrix (DC) - 2.99 (Great find period, but the best thing is that it makes up for my stupid decision to pass on Mars Matrix years ago in favor of RayCrisis for PlayStation. And this copy is almost perfect. :) )

Wait a few months, The Neverhood will be more valuable near the holidays.
Great finds, by the way.

Those are some cool items people are finding. I love those posters Dave, can't say I've spotted them before.
I picked up a few Macintosh items off the side of the road, a rescue if you will.

So present in the picture are:
Macintosh 512K
Macintosh SE Superdrive
Macintosh SE HD
Macintosh Classic
Macintosh ImageWriter II
My office had an auction this week, but it wasn't much of an auction more like a take whatever deal. I picked up all sorts of stuff (20+ chairs, 15+ tables, 10+ white boards, 3 large projection screens, several bookshelves, about 30 blue, steel framed cubical walls with lots of desks) for an organization, but for myself I snagged two desks and a bookshelf for my hardware and games/media. It took us several trips with two trucks from Friday around 4pm until 5am Saturday. So it's nice to have an improved and less cluttered setup at home and an improved lab in downtown.

I really have too much to take pictures of but here we go:
Friday Yard Sales
- Box with NES, SNES, controllers, games (NES, SNES, N64, PS1), cables - $2
- Couple of vintage cameras - $3
- Old NEC cell phone - $2 (love vintage cells)
- Craig Series 5000 vintage receiver - $5
- Two Elvis records - $2
Saturday Thrift Store (50% off ALL electronics, the woman thanked me for taking around $20 worth of stuff home)
- Two Panasonic portable TV's (one's worthless, other sells for $20 or so) - $2
- Kenwood & Pioneer tape decks - $2
- Soundesign receiver - $1
- Sears 8 Track player - $1
- Bunch of CD's, 8 Tracks - $5
- Two XBox controllers - $3
- Island Peril PC Game - $0.50 (anyone know the value of this? One on eBay for $30+ but that can't be right, can it?)
- Iwo Jima PC game - $0.25
- MS Home Publishing 2000 - $0.50
- Airport Tycoon 2 - $0.25
- Command & Conquer Red alert 2 - $0.50
- Civil War The Game - $0.13 I guess (half of $0.25)
- Old book on 8086 processors - $0.50
- The Sims 2 & Bustin' Out PS2 - $2 (both going to GS as trade-in's, I believe they both get around $8)
- Some weird portable amp - $1
- Some weird homemade security alarm system (picked it up for parts and the Wheelock horn/speaker in it; they're the company that makes many of the fire alarm systems with the awesome, loud sounds) - $1
- I think there was a few other things lying around somewhere. I went a bit crazy with the 50% off; a lot of items I wanted on previous visits but unwilling to pay the amount wanted.
At another store I frequent at, I picked up a couple of vinyls along with Outrun 2019 and Monaco GP for the Genesis ($8 total for everything).

I looked at that seller, a lot of his prices are just insanely high. If you ever want to trade that away though, lemme know.
Anyway, not much today...

Cold Fear was free from GameTZ. Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds was $2 (up from $1 once the seller realized it was a game, dammit) at the flea market. And it's pretty worthless. :p Also of note, someone had tons of Vampirella comic books. But I don't like Skankarella so I left 'em behind.
A combination news stand / mini store at the border crossing in Mexico had a bunch of old comics (labeled as kiddie magazines) for sale for five pesos each (about 40 cents) so I bought four. You can see the covers here: http://twitpic.com/2wsl4h

Went back to that same Goodwill where I found the Saturn and PS1 imports over the weekend; found a few more U.S. Saturn games with the "Please return to Fox Interactive" sticker (Crimewave, Cyber Speedway, Manx TT Superbike and Robotica), in addition to a shrinkwrapped Die Hard Trilogy. Combining that with the all of the imports, it makes me wonder about exactly how it all ended up at a Goodwill...
A different Goodwill offered up a GH PS1 Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and a Making of Resident Evil 4 DVD.
Finally, I found a PS1 Mega Man X6 disc inside a GH Mega Man Legends case (with neither manual) at a Salvation Army.

I hit a heap of places today, and only found two things.
http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp222/StevePW/GBAdevice.jpg
The Price Is Right plug-and-play was $2.49, and so was the Gameboy Advance SAGAME "Magic Editor Card". It's new, and oddly the store covered it in cellophane tape to keep anyone from opening it up. The text in the booklet is in English, Japanese, and Chinese. And it only has two pages worth of codes ready to go, and for games that mostly never came out here. There was really a Love Hina GBA game?

Yes, there was a Love Hina game for the GBA. It was even translated into English by fans, if I remember correctly.
The game is BAD, but it served its purpose of keeping psychotic Love Hina fans (read: my ex) quiet for a while.

Found a nice pair of mid 60s stereo headphones at the flea market for $5. Also found a CIB copy of Dark Wizard for the Sega CD among some nice but very overpriced NES and SNES games (Chrono Trigger for $80!). After dry flea markets and stores for months, things are starting to look up.
Trying to find a clean Dreamcast if anyone has one for trade/sale. :wink 2:

Home Shopping Network briefly had a $20 off coupon a week or so ago and I was able to use it to pick up the new Prof. Layton game for my wife. After tax/shipping I paid $18.10 for it. Happily it came yesterday, the last day to get the bonus 10 coins from Club Nintendo.
The rest in the picture came to 15.48 from a thrift. The GBC game is Dragon Warrior Monsters. The asteroids thing is kinda cheesy and only from 2005, but what the hey.
Since old headphones came up, I meant to include in my previous finds a Pioneer SE-205 set that I picked up for 3 bucks or so. They aren't particularly great or valuable, but sound decent to me and I've been wanting a full ear covering set. Went to that thrift a couple days after buying them and they had another set there. I passed since they aren't really worth flipping. Pioneer made these things for like 20 years, so I don't really know when mine are from.

Hooray for getting up earlier than usual and only spending five minutes waiting to cross over to the US this morning! And arriving at the flea market at 5:30 AM! Doh.
So anyway, I didn't see much of anything today. One guy beat me to most of the good CDs, but I did find a trio of items.
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/dp-2010-10-13a.jpg
$1 each. Cool Boarders 4 is brand new. The Elvira CD is a sequel to Elvira Presents: Monster Hits (http://rateyourmusic.com/release/comp/various_artists_f2/elvira_presents__monster_hits/), which I bought over a year and a half ago. Both were found at a booth with tons of random promo CDs and stuff.
But this... I never expected to find this.

I'm so jealous of that.
I don't normally post my finds but I managed to get a Genesis lot while Digital Press was still down, I might as well post it as I'm really happy with it. It was all for $100, and everything is with case and instructions unless otherwise noted(it figures that Golden Axe 3 is missing the manual, I really wanted that one). I've been looking for some of these for several years, I'm happy to finally have them.

Japanese Mega Drive games;
Curse
I've always wanted to try that game. One reason was because it had really weird art on the box cover, if I recall correctly. Second reason was because it was originally going to be brought over to the US and published by INTV Corporation, the company that had bought the rights to the Intellivision after the market crash in '84. But by this time, they had so little money they couldn't afford to license and publish Curse. They attempted to get into publishing for other consoles and only managed to get Monster Truck Rally for the NES made (a port of Stadium Mud Buggies on the Intellivision) but went out of business before they could publish it, they ended up selling MTR off to another company. I would have really loved to have seen INTV stick around and create some really interesting games for 16-and-32 bit systems. Imagine Utopia II on the Playstation. Or Return to Thunder Castle on the Genesis.

A few days ago, while going to my local pawnshop, as I walked to the front door entrance (before even reaching the store, not inside), I happen to look on the floor and saw an "American Pie Band Camp" DVD only. I picked it up and noticed it was very scratched with a few magic marker text written on the label side. I was apprehensive at first, but since the DVD was found outside store property an on public property, I took it with me. At home, I resurfaced the disc and now it looks like new. And yes, it works perfectly now. :)
That wasn't the only thing I picked up, though. After taking the disc and putting it inside my car, I went into the pawnshop and purchased a nice Toshiba 8GB USB drive for $15 (new) and King of Fighters XII for PS3 (complete, great condition) for $15 as well.
Besides that, not much. :(

Thanks, I just have to get around to trying out everything. I've especially been wanting Ultimate Qix and Golden Axe 3 for a long time, I didn't think I'd be able to find Golden Axe 3 locally. There's a lot of titles I want to keep. :)

It's actually the second time I've found a copy of Curse. The last time I've played it was a few years ago, but from what I remember it was a pretty decent shmup. I think there was some flickering with the enemies, but I'd have to play it again to be sure. It's definitely not a bad game.

Haven't looked for much lately and from the looks of this topic I've been missing out. Cornelius' Star Force pick-up was really nice. I also give thumbs up to Aussie2B; nice work on the Mars Matrix and The Neverhood (which if you want to sell, let me know).
I only picked this up last Saturday and I suspect it's the last good thing I'll find for a while.
http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/6051/psp002.th.jpg (http://img835.imageshack.us/i/psp002.jpg/)
$40 off of craigslist. Some woman was selling it for her son and I haggled her down to $40 prior to meeting up. I finally met up locally last Saturday and discovered her son was quite young, which may explain why it was being sold. Despite this, it was and is in good condition. Notable problems were that it is missing the analog stick cover, there's a bit of dust between the faceplate and the LCD screen, the Start button has no feeling yet still works, the UMD drive door has a warped hinge so it may need to be replaced, and the d-pad as with all PSP-1000s is useless for diagonals.
I believe this was being sold as they told me that it 'would'n't run games but did everything else'. Knowing nothing about PSPs I enlisted a friend of mine well versed with PSPs to examine the unit before purchase. He checked it out and despite the battery not charged he gave the green light. It was noted to be modded with custom firmware already and my friend tried to boot some of his games off a memory stick to test. They didn't work. As he further learned it seems someone in the boot-up menu (hold R during power on) set it to UMD mode, meaning only UMDs would boot. He switched it no UMD and the memory stick games worked.
I'm personally not concerned with PSP games, per se, as I got this under the premise of use of a different kind.
http://img710.imageshack.us/img710/8456/psp004t.th.jpg (http://img710.imageshack.us/i/psp004t.jpg/)http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/8071/psp003.th.jpg (http://img243.imageshack.us/i/psp003.jpg/)
I updated the firmware to the latest and got the most recent version of gPSP. GBA emulation works quite well, which is very satisfactory.
Essentially I could've bought a brand new EZ-Flash IV original for around $40USD shipped or bought this PSP for $40CAD. The choice was easy and now I can finally play through Mother 3 (in english) on a handheld and then some. As for PSP games, I'm interested in Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles, so perhaps I'll seek out a UMD of that shortly.

That booth where I got the Saturn games a while back brought a ton more, but most were water damaged or scratched. I only picked three out: Loaded, Nights Into Dreams (pack-in) and Darius Gaiden (damaged case). Loaded is for me, the others are for resale. Some lady wanted to take all of them and got angry at me because I picked up Nights after she put it down and went elsewhere. Hopefully there'll be more stuff tomorrow.
I also found two sealed XBox Live Gold 13-month cards for $4 each at another booth. These don't expire, right? I can sell them, right? :)

PSP games w/ Banjo were 26 at a garage sale that advertised games (N64, psp, GC, more). I was there 10 minutes after they advertised opening, and was their first person and they were still setting up. As I was surveying the games deciding where to start a guy practically ran up (I didn't even see him pull up and he left the engine running) and just started grabbing N64 games as quick as he could. I literally reached between his arms to grab banjo and then quickly picked up the whole stack of PSP and GC games. I normally wouldn't do that since it is a douchebag move, but this guy didn't leave me much choice. GC games were in blank cases and turned out to be a junk game and Viewtiful Joe (which I have), so I put them back. He started asking about ps1 games immediately. It sounded like they were going to bring out a bunch, so I hung around, but then all they produced was YuGiOh. That was all of their PSP games and only a couple had manuals, so I asked if the manuals were anywhere and the kid said he thought so. So he went in and came out with the manual for FFI and a couple more junk PS1 games. I actually talked to the 'run up' guy and he seemed nice enough, though I think he is new to the 'scene'... he thought FFVII Crisis Core was worth a lot, presumably because it says FFVII (OMG!). I probably wouldn't have actually bought all the psp games if it hadn't been for that dude, but 5 bucks each was fair.
The Dyer PC games I got for 1 each because they are Dyer games. Picked up the N64 w/ 2 games a little bit ago off CL for $15. The ad didn't say if the games had boxes, so was pretty pleased to see SK2 with its box and quick reference card, no manual, though, and box is a little sunfaded. Genesis Generations Lost was 1.80 at a thrift -25%.

Thanks! What's kinda funny about it is that I quickly learned that the 5-screw version of Star Force is probably worth $100! I would imagine this proto isn't necessarily worth that much since an identical one has previously been found. Moot point since mine isn't for sale, but I thought it was kind of interesting. Or am I wrong and mine is worth substantially more than that?
Cool that you got a deal on a psp. I picked up a 3001 not long ago that I've barely touched. I really need to look into it and see what my emulation options are.

Note to self: check the copy of Star Force sitting at a local store.
Pick it up if it's a 5-screw, and give someone a deal. :D

Took my daughter on a campus visit to the University of Iowa in Iowa City. Found a retro game store on campus called Gamers that had a few good deals:
http://img833.imageshack.us/img833/1915/gamersf.jpg
Got a number of boxed, completed gameboy games for between $5.95 and $1.95. Also got a loose Gameboy Color Bust-a-Move Millenium Edition for $3.95
Picked up a loose N64 Earthworm Jim 3D for $5.95, and a colecovision Smurf Paint ‘n’ Play Workshop (R5) for only $1.95.
Not deals I’d normally drive 4+ hours for, but since I was already there….not bad.

$100 for 5 screws? Interesting. All the same, there's something alluring about the cartridge label. It feels like it's a product you'd buy in a grocery store, what with it being horizontally positioned.
I know little about the 3000s but if you can infact change your firmware I think emulation support is pretty good. Also, nice find on Castlevania DXC.

Okay.... Garage sales today and I'm glad to say it was pic-worthy. Yay!
I went to the garage sale advertised here (http://waco.craigslist.org/gms/2008773365.html) not really knowing what to expect. I know it has pics but the first iteration of the listing (that showed up a few days ago!) had no pics and just listed Nintendo collectibles and various game systems. I didn't realize he listed it with pics until now! I wish I had been there earlier because when I got there all that was left were some misc common games and an NES system, as well as some of the memorabilia. I am now wondering what that SMB3 thing was on the table since it was gone when I got there. Anyways in retrospect it looks like I might've missed something but it's no biggie, I already own the most of the systems in the pics, sans the Saturn.
http://i880.photobucket.com/albums/ac5/Ryaan2000/Finds101610-1.jpg
The guy running the sale.... Holy crap. A guy in his early 20s wearing a Mario baseball cap, Goomba T-shirt, and a Nintendo hoodie. Wow. He seemed like a nice guy but the gamer stuff was kinda... overboard. (Of course I'm posting my weekly finds in a CLASSIC VIDEO GAME COLLECTING forum so call me a hippocrite at your leisure. Just my luck if he's on DP :/) Anyways, prices were reasonable, at $1.00 per 3 magazines and $2 a piece on the Kirby plush and Nintendo books. The guy was nice, asked me if I'd played the new Kirby game and I said no but I was looking forward to Super Scribblenauts.
The magazines are misc nintendo paper stuff: Some tips guides, one on SMB2, and a ridiculous Nintendo catalog. I think that the latter 2 are inserts from a Nintendo Power if I were to guess.
The PSP-3001 in the pic, $2 at a garage sale. The UMD door on back (and the drive itself XD) is loose and comes off without effort. The battery and cover is missing as well but the screen seems good. The lady I got it from seemed kinda upset that her 5-year old tore it up so bad (note the shoulder buttons colored with blue marker LOL)

This would be the usual "Try to make Kitsune Sniper jealous" pic but he's already made me jealous with The Neverhood soundtrack :/
Picked up the 2 copies Microsoft Office 97 Professional, one sealed and new the other open but minty (The one with the glare), the 3 brand new blank Memorex CDX II cassettes from the late 80s, and the Windows Me upgrade all at one sale. Brought it up to the lady running it and she shrugged and told me $1 for everything.
Same sale as the PSP I got the Works Suite 2006 and Pandora's Box all for $10. Pandora's Box is new and sealed. This Pandora's Box is the Atari "Puzzle game of the year" rerelease... Here's one was open but minty that sold for $80 (http://cgi.ebay.com/Microsoft-Pandoras-Box-Game-Year-Edition-MINT-/300475860214?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item45f5c1c4f6) on eBay UK. O_O I wonder if that's a realistic price at all or if someone just overpaid for it. Errr... The original Microsoft release sales for like $20-30 in complete condition on the US eBay so I'm hoping for $50 for this new one...
Worms Armageddon (PS1) was $0.50, it was found in a box of CDs at a random garage sale.
Anyways that's it, I guess I should have asked for a number for that gamer running the garage sale... He seemed like a cool person to hang out with but I was in a hurry to get to the next sale and forgot to ask.

In all seriousness though - that Pandora's Box is strange. Considering how valuable the big box GOTY version is, I'm very surprised Atari released a budget version. I always figured it was valuable because of how scarce it is. I recall Atari releasing Age of Empires at one point, so maybe they got the rights to it in the same deal.
And yes. That game is worth $80, at most.
One find today, this album:
http://images.uulyrics.com/cover/t/the-beautiful-south/album-golddiggas-headnodders-pholk-songs.jpg
I wasn't going to buy it, but the tracklisting mentioned it had covers of several songs... including Don't Fear The Reaper, Blitzkrieg Bop, and You're The One That I Want. Yes, the Grease song. It's not bad. Just WEIRD. It's a UK import.

I also found two sealed XBox Live Gold 13-month cards for $4 each at another booth. These don't expire, right? I can sell them, right? :)
Just hope that they were actually purchased and scanned at a register. If they weren't then they are as worthless as a $3 bill. Microsoft changed out all of their cards to POP a few years ago to deter thief.

The new ones do this?
At Sears, all I have to do is scan the UPC (which is the same on all cards) and that's it. No need to register them like Tracfone/Virgin/T-Mobile like cards.
And no one that I know of has come to the store complaining that the card does not work.

As long as it was scanned at a register then it should be find. If it wasn't then it won't be accessible because it wouldn't be activated.

But how does the register know which card if all that was scanned was the UPC and not actually register it?
It's like scanning a video game or any other merchandise. At least in Sears, there is no need to activate the card, since they are all pre-activated.
I dunno if this is the norm on other stores, though.
With Tracfone cards, for instance, I have to scan the bardcode and swipe the card in order to activate it. With the Xbox 360 cards, this is not the case, since they are sealed in plastic.

Um... These cards have two barcodes: The UPC, and another barcode that has W18-00001 written under it. That's the product code, it's similar to other barcodes on Microsoft products. They don't seem to have a separate activation barcode. :\
These cards are usually behind a glass window or stuck to one of those holder thingies so people can't just take them without paying for them. So they should be fine.

Those cards are fully active from the get go. Thats why they are in the blisters and are not just those plastic cards which do require scanning for activation. They sell standalone cards here, but depending on the stores, some will carry one kind over the others.

Not much finds wise, but I did make a nice discovery at the local Game-X-Change.
- Kirby's Dream Land 3 (SNES. Loose in very good condition): $10 (Mistagged as Kirby's Dream Course)
I never expected to stumble onto yet another one of the major Super NES games I wanted all within the same year; and to find it mistagged as a different, cheaper Kirby game only sweetened the deal for me.
I almost bought Mega Man 4 while I was there (It was $20), but since I've got some bills and such to take care of, and because it's my least favorite of the original 6, I passed on it. Now, had it been Mega Man 5, I would have jumped on it; since it's my personal favorite in the series, which I sadly don't have anymore.
No golden ticket? I'm getting one for Xmas... so I'll see it Dec 25.
Sadly, no dice :? I was one of the unlucky 505 :(

Was at Target today and grabbed some clearanced PC titles:
Bioshock 2 - $7.48 (Best Buy was still selling this for $49, believe it or not)
Sid Meier's Pirates! - $4.98
Sid Meier's Civilization III Gold/CivCity Rome 2-pack - $4.98
I'm still playing through the first Bioshock yet, but I couldn't pass up the sequel at that price. I've always wanted to play both Pirates/Civ III so those were an easy choice.

I am actually impressed that you landed a deal at Gamers. They started in Omaha, and have Gamers in a bunch of nebraska cities and Iowa cities. They are always hit or miss since they have no clue about pricing. If they don't care about it, they assume it is not worth much. I got a bunch of decent Sega CD games from them that way.
They refuse to adjust prices (some games I have seriously seen on the shelves for years on end at the same $15 price tag).
Congrats on the score from Gamers, because that does not happen very often

6 cassette tape games, 2 look like actual issues of Vic Video Magazine, and 4 are single titles with a "bonus" one included and the top 3 are unopened! As far as I can tell all these cassettes were originally from mail order through Polar Computer Specialties. The order form included with one of the games states that I actually have all the games that they offered through mail order. Google searches on the magazine, developer, and the titles themselves are fruitless. Anybody know what these should be worth?

Haha yeah, 6000 physical copies of this game out in the wild sounds pretty tasty in the collector's eyes. I can only imagine what that will be like 10 years from now.
Cool! :bday:
My guess is that the LE set will be selling for around $50 and the game itself will be $10 or less. 6,000 copies of something that is super niche and frankly not that good is not going to result in value down the road. Not only that, but a large number of people who bought it have never played any other game in the series and just did so because the numbers made it sound rare and they thought they could cash in. Heck, the first game they released over here didn't even break 10K copies total sold. There are lots of numerically rare games which are worth next to nothing. Having said all that, the set is kind of neat, although the outer box feels like low end construction paper and the contents are not worth the premium which was charged. This should have been maybe $75 shipped, not $110.

The games were sitting in a box at a booth at my local flea, when I asked a price I was told $5 takes everything. It wasn't until I purchased it and got a good look through I noticed that the mail order games were in it.
Damn. I thought I might actually 'win the thread' this month, but I think you've got me beat.
