Oddly enough the 30+ copies my local Best Buy had on display were all gone today. I'm sure they will be getting more in but the first batch sold well during the first week.

I wasn't going to jump on board with this game but since the in-laws got it for me, I took the plunge.
Has anyone sat down to compare one of the Mario games between the three versions (Wii All-Stars, SNES All-Stars and original NES)? I found with the Classic Controller I had issues with the more hairy jumps, like the single block pillars at the end of level 8-1 in SMB. I zipped past them on the SNES and got a little tricky on the NES version. Could be the controllers as they are all different (C.C.'s buttons are raised more, controller is wider and the D-Pad is designed different compared to the more compact SNES controller and the boxy NES pad). Could be emulation differences.
While the game is really a ROM on a disk like others have said, it IS very sharp visually. After playing it, I wish V.C. titles had the option to go 4:3 if the Wii is set to wide screen.

The noticeable input lag might have something to do with your control issues. I've found myself making more mistakes and accidentally dying more often in this compilation compared to the original SNES release.

Yeah, all those copies that were sold are already appearing on ebay resellers stores.
I'd give it a month or two, once people aren't buying and don't care the price will drop.

I played this at a friend's house (on a several-years-old HD LCD tv) and definitely found myself dying and slip-sliding around with a certain latency compared to the SNES original. I was using the standard wiimote.
In Super Mario 2, sometimes I actually had trouble going up vines. Tended to keep sliding off, even though I was just pressing up.
Gotta say, the graphics looked sharp though. Vibrant colors.

See I told you
Resellers knows Mario is a Hot Item, They bought up all the stock at Stores & selling on ebay start jacking up the price
Right before Christmas, my cousin and I were in Meijer to see if they had a vintage looking record player and to spend a $50 gift card he had for the store. He had his heart set on getting DK Country Returns with it. While we were perusing the Wii section looking for the DK game, I spotted the SMB All-Stars game and mentioned he should get it. He said he'd spent enough that day already so I shrugged and left it at that.
There was one guy running the entire electronics section so we had to wait in a long arse line to get the DK game. The person just ahead of us in line was there to pick up a copy of the SMB game so we followed her and the attendant back to the case so we could get the DK game and save the guy a trip. On the way to the case, she remarked on how she had to pay $70 for the game on Amazon.
My cousin and I looked at each other and I whispered that she was insane to pay that much for it with it being in most stores still. He looked at me curiously for a second so I replied "Why would you pay $70 for a $30 game?" My cousin's eyes immediately lit up and he goes "It's only $30? I thought it was $50!" Needless to say, he wasted no time snatching a copy up for himself. ROFL

Finally opened my copy up yesterday and played around with it for an hour or so. The preferred controller option is definitely this...

Game Crazy had these for that price and I leaped on it without hesitation. It's a fun little controller but the cord isn't nearly long enough. I haven't tried using a Wavebird with the game yet. As for Ebay pricing, I have NO doubt the prices are through the roof on those controllers. I regret not buying up more when I have the chance.

Judging by my Facebook feed, we're the only ones who realize this. We're not the target audience for this release. You know the people who ramble on about "the original Nintendo," and how they want to play "the first Mario?" Yeah, this is for them. The non-gamer who remembers Mario.
I still don't understand why anyone who cares about money would drop $30+ on what is literally the SNES ROM with a booklet.
A few reasons. I'd rather play the game on my Wii than either bust out my old SNES or play it on my laptop with its puny 17" screen. Also, it looks great in my display case. I need physical copies, as I hate digital downloads. Finally, for all of its faults, it's a ton of fun. I just beat SM2 US. Played it after work every night for a week and had a total blast, and next up will be SM3.

Nope, not at all. It looks exactly the same. I'm going to do a UPC / item code check tomorrow. They're in the sales system not to release until 3/13/11 and won't ring up until then. The UPC has probably just been re-flagged but I'm curious if the part numbers or copyright are different.
The cardboard shipping cartons were street date marked for 3/13/11 and they're fresh stickers, not like stuck over older stickers so it's not old warehouse stock or anything like that.

Funny how "limited" sometimes really does mean "limited".
The "Limited Edition" title may be more than just hype. It just sold out on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Super-Mario-All-Stars-Limited-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B0049DYNNO) (before it's even been released). I'm guessing if you're not on the ball and let this one slip by, it'll be a little pricey for the next few months. Definitely more than the $30 it's retailing for.
People laugh when I say I can predict the future. Anyway.
I remember when I was in college I worked at Target. My friends and I took every Starting Line-up Figure (remember those?), rare Star Wars figure, and Treasure Hunt Hot Wheels car we could find. We would take them right off the truck as it was being unloaded and buy every one (with 10% employee discount of course). Then we would sell them for HUGE profit on Usenet, eBay, etc. Eventually we graduated and got real jobs. Good times.

I'd grabbed six. Heh. Wait and see how long it takes to go back up. Unless I need the money real quick.
This is in stock at Best Buy Canada. $35 with free shipping.
I considered picking up a few, but at $160 (after tax) for four of them, I don't want to get stuck trying to dump them later for only a few dollars profit.
Then I'm definitely going to buy two. I'm sure these will go pretty quickly and once again end up on ebay for atleast twice the retail price.
If you are so sure about this, then why not buy four, or ten? If they will double in value, why not spend every spare dollar you have buying these and reselling? 100% return on investment.

I saw four copies at my local Target and picked up three of them. Brand new on Amazon they're going for as little as $38 a copy right now, which is barely enough to get back your money after seller fees.

The booklet is poor and the music CD is so limited in scope that I doubt anyone will give more than a single look to either of them.
The meat of this product is the game itself. Only get this if you want to be able to play the game on your Wii or want to collect it. It's not worth it for the bonuses.

Got very lucky today. I called a local Gamestop(in which I have very good business relationship with), and I was asking if there were any Mario All Star Wii games in stock. The manager was opening a restock box as I was talking to him...they got only one in. Needless to say I was very happy and felt lucky to score one. For me I plan to eventually play this one, I still feel that its worth it for the ability to play these games in crisp component on the Wii.

That's too bad. :(
I'm amazed that Nintendo, a company that made some of the very best games of all time, can be so bad at doing special or collector's editions. Their bonuses are always so lackluster. Even the game itself is a bit disappointing. A straight port of the SNES game? They couldn't have added in a few of the more recent 2D Mario games? Oh, wait, of course not, because they had to use games that could be played with only two buttons using a Wii remote.
Oh how I wish all Wiis came bundled with a classic controller. If next year Nintendo celebrates the Zelda anniversary by redoing the same cheap collection we saw on GameCube, I'm going to be upset.
Leo_A
03-20-2011, 01:51 AM
They're selling those on the Virtual Console which was why they weren't there. But let's not start that one up again. :)
They could always toss in a nunchuck/wiimote control combination for something like Super Mario World (I believe NSMBWii can use both, for an example of how they could've met the button requirement with stock controllers). So I don't think that was the roadblock to including it on the disc.
I'm hoping we'll get some real treats with the Zelda collection, assuming that's the route they're going to go to celebrate the anniversary. Reworkings of the Satilliteview games would be an excellent way to celebrate the series and give us something new and worthwhile.
And perhaps the real Ura Zelda (The N64 DD expansion for Ocarina of Time). It seems to be a common feeling that what we got on the GameCube was just a portion of the project, or even just a recent hack at the time to give us a second quest that was then portrayed to us as that lost project.
In interviews and such in the 90's, Ura Zelda was supposed to include such things as the following list of elements. Yet, it was little more than edits to the dungeons that some 3rd party modder could've achieved. Heck, it didn't even need the 4MB expansion pack to run and was the same size as the standard Ocarina of Time, as people have discovered that have extracted the Master Quest rom.
-Persistent world
-Additional areas
-Additional dungeons
-Changed locations for existing dungeons
-New enemies
Would be neat to get the real deal someday (Was supposedly all but finished according to outlets like IGN at the time of cancellation), assuming what we got on the GameCube wasn't the real deal.
Maybe those lost elements are the new additions they've hinted at for Ocarina of Time 3D.

Through data mining of the Wii U's eShop, an entry for this title has been located which suggests an upcoming release.
If it happens, it will be interesting to see what form its 2nd rerelease takes. Will it be an $8 Virtual Console download like many thought it should've originally been five years ago? Or will Nintendo have the nerve to sell it as a $20 Wii download, thanks to this earlier retail rerelease?
The old economics problem remains. Do they risk some of their profit by selling an enhanced compilation of four classics for $8, that cost $20 in their original form as downloads? Or will the Wii retail angle be utilized to allow for an equivalent $20 download price?
Tanooki
10-15-2015, 08:52 PM
Good question. If I were betting, even though I never do, I'd put it at $20. Nintendo thanks to the WiiU is hurting financially and also in game quantity too. A release like this being a Mario history package of the 2D early era would be easy money. They'd rationalize the fact you could buy them individually for $5/ea as NES titles so it's a fair deal with the upgrades. I mean there was no reason since they own it, but they went for $10 vs $8 on Earthbound and I think that NES proto they finally release was higher too. They'll milk it.
