Three finds:

Adobe Photoshop 3.0 Deluxe with box and docs + 5 Upgrade = $3 (3.0 doesn't have a CD key, but the 5 disc only requires the CD to install)
Adobe Publisher 4.0 CIB with box and docs (no CD key) - $3
Microsoft Visual Studio 6.0 Enterprise Edition (CDs + key in dirty case) - $3

I bought the Adobe stuff thinking the CD keys were in there, and they're not. :( Wah. At least I can resell the Photoshop stuff on its own.

Visual Studio 6 EE sells for a LOT of money on eBay... complete. Hopefully the CDs will net me some cash. I also saw about ten or so Gnomon Workshop DVDs at the booth where I got the VS6. eBay seems to suggest they're worth quite a bit. I may get them tomorrow, not sure yet.

ETA:
VS 6 SOLD FOR $135. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Holy crap! My local Goodwills (Heart of Texas Goodwill if you want to call and complain! LOL) Has stopped selling ALL toys, new or old, that aren't sealed or brand new in the original packaging. This happened right after the whole lead paint scare so yeah. The last good toys I got there were 2 of the small Shogun Warriors figures MIB and that was 3 years ago!

More arrivals today in my effort to get every video game adventure for systems I own starring DC Comics characters...

Aquaman (Xbox)--I think I paid under $3 for this...and may have overpaid for it!

It'd be great if the Goodwills in NJs were like the ones in Wisconsin, i.e. didn't ship any game off to shopgoodwill.com and what was left was reasonably priced. If I found even half that shit at my local Goodwill, I'd plotz.

After I voted I figured I'd hit my church's thrift, found a Gravis gamepad, THE Gravis Gamepad (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gravis_PC_GamePad). Loose, only $1, and works fine. The joystick apparently broke off, as the screw-in bit is lodged into the d-pad. I haven't had a MIDI port gamepad since my Gravis Gamepad Pro broke a decade ago, and I've been needing one for my DOS rig. Love the rapidfire and inversion toggle switches...

I have to agree. I couldn't tell you the last time I found anything good in my local Goodwills. With the possible exception of Cradle 2 The Grave on DVD for $1.

Wow, sorry to hear how crappy the Goodwills are around rest of the country. I think Wisconsin Goodwills benefit from the fact that people around here tend to hold on to things for a while instead of throwing them out right away. I benefit from the fact that I live and work near 4 Goodwills and other misc. thrifts and try to pop in whenever I go by one. Persistence seems to be the key to making thrifting scores, and enjoying the thrill of the hunt definitely makes it easier to endure the all of the dry holes between the rare ones that produce an actual find.

Righty, so today was weird. Most of the booths were just... empty or half-set up. I was going to leave at 7 AM but I figured I'd take another spin around the flea market, and well...

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/dp-2010-11-03b.jpg
Bioshock 2, Metro 2033, Sarah Vaughan In Hi-Fi, Underworld: A Hundred Days Off (promo copy with sticker over the UPC - in the jewel case, heh) - $2 each.

I found those two PC games at one booth I'd passed on because they had a ton of stuff that was just on the floor. Someone organized everything by the time I walked back and I saw the "Games for Windows" tag on the DVD. I looked closer and they were brand new copies of Bioshock and Metro 2033! The CDs are from another booth I didn't pay attention to when I first arrived. They had the Sarah Vaughan CD on their CD player, but they wouldn't take out the disc. They did when I came back around. They were $2 per CD or three for $5, but I didn't see any other CD worth the extra buck. Especially this one (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_Thicke#2005.E2.80.932007:_The_Evolution_of_R obin_Thicke). :P

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/dp-2010-11-03a.jpg
The booth where I found that bootleg Pink Floyd album last week didn't get much of anything interesting. They had a box with PC games, but I skipped most of em on the first passthrough. Most were RTS stuff like Ground Control, ArmA, and a few Total War games. They did have Call of Duty 1 + the expansion, but I wasn't sure if I owned them already so I left them behind. On the way back, I decided to pick up F.E.A.R. for the hell of it, and that was $3. The Mission Impossible score CD by Danny Elfman was hidden in a small wastebasket filled with CDs (I missed this one during my first visit) and this GH copy of Tetris Plus was underneath it. I took the stuff to the seller and he said $5 without even looking at the PS1 game. Well, I'm not complaining. :P I'll be selling it over the holidays.

And finally, some more comic book finds from the five peso booth in the border:
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/comics-2010-11-03.jpg
The comic on the right? It's disgusting. And it's also a good example of what killed the Mexican comic book industry.

ETA:
Forgot to mention the hilarious "I'm an idiot" moment.

I found a blue debug PS1 system. Beat up, and I had no idea if it worked. The seller wouldn't budge from a $20 price, even though IT WAS A BARE CONSOLE. So I left it.

And now I find out they're worth a lot. DAMMIT.

Ouch. Last week at the flea market I passed on TWO PAIRS of Pioneer SE-405 headphones... Turns out they're awesome vintage DJ headphones. I *was* feeling bad about that but you've made me feel better if that counts for anything. Their value was probably $30-40 a piece but I was still being bad since I love vintage headphones >_>

Really, the comic book with the huge-assed, surprised looking lady with terrible thigh sore/tattoo things is disgusting? I wouldn't have ever known LOLOh, that's not the reason the comic is disgusting. It's the fact that it's basically a comic where people worship death as if it was a saint of sorts, using it as a way to deal with witchcraft... and it's brought up as bluntly as a Chick tract would. The second half of the comic deals with a guy who gets shot, prays to the "Holy Death" for protection, survives, and he thanks it as if it was Jesus Christ. Hell, you could replace Jesus in those panels, and it'd be the same ending! Bleh.

Also, no comments on my PC finds? :P

I missed posting a couple things recently: Last friday I grabbed an N64 setup w/ 2 controllers, hookups, mem card and mem expansion, an NES deck, NES controller, NES zapper, and one other item I can't remember for a grand total of 20.97 at a thrift, it being a 25% off w/ free membership card day.

On Tuesday I got an Atari 7800 ac adapter which I've needed for a couple years now and another NES controller for a grand total of $2.34, it being 25% off Tuesday.

Went to a couple thrifts today but it was a bust. Pissed off at one because a reseller I recognize had a stack of probably 10 PS1 games in his hands. Didn't get a look at the titles but they were mostly greatest hits, so thats something at least. What I'm pissed about is he was walking around with them and I felt like following him to see what the titles were and to see if he changed his mind about some (he'd looked through them a couple times while I was watching him). So I went about my shopping and a little while later see him walk out the door without ringing up at the register. I don't think he stole them, but rather stashed them somewhere. So mad I didn't follow him! Anyway, with a baby along who wasn't going to last much longer I didn't have the option to search around for them, and it is a pretty big store.

Nice on the PC games Kitsune. I doubt my current computer could run them well, but for that price I'd probably give it a shot!

heybtbm... you should check your email address on file w/ Club Nintendo. They sent me a notice last week that the rewards were starting to ship, and I just got notice today that mine shipped! Cool box that it comes in, and while there isn't exactly a whole lot to "do" with this figure, I still think it is pretty damn cool for something that is more or less free.

Lot sale again and an interesting pickup(s).

I was shopping and had a single item in my basket, as there wasn't much new stuff put out. I know this guy who collects vinyl and I politely left the stack which was there to him (mostly because the records they had looked like a big stack of gospel and easy listening music LOL). Anyways my friend, who let me repeat myself collects vinyl came up to me and asked if I had found anything and that he was leaving because there wasn't anything good. I was being facetious and said "Wow, you mean you didn't find anything of interest in that lot?" and he said "Well, it was all crap except this Japanese Herbie Hancock record. It's still over there if you want it." O_O

I dashed over there and looked, my friend even pointed the album (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flood_%28Herbie_Hancock_album%29) out to me. Because "Chameleon" is one of my favorite songs of all time, and knowing that Japanese pressings are usually much better than the normal pressings I got it. Turns out it's a Japan-only Herbie Hancock album, and hopefully worth something. I looked through the stack and picked out a few other oddities, mostly for my growing vinyl collection: Garfield Out There Tonight (promo), John Coltrane My Favorite Things (stereo), Neil Young This Note's For You, Stevie Wonder Songs in the Key of Life, and Ringo Starr Drowning in the Sea of Love (Disco mix I think? Your guess is as good as mine. Atlantic DSKO 93)

Anyways, some niiiice 70s stuff, and a nice day after finding that Herbie Hancock album. The records were $1 a piece, btw.

Oh, mine can't either. My video card is godawful. But, at least I have them for whenever I can afford a new video card...

I didn't find anything today, except for one guy who had PC parts for sale. He had a Creative Xtremegamer X-Fi Fatal1ty Platinum sound card, complete in box, for $20. He also had an Audigy 2 Platinum (complete with the extra bay with knobs and stuff.) I didn't buy either; however, I got home and did a search for both. The Fatal1ty card is a marked improvement over the Audigy 4 SE (like twice the power or so) and since my Audigy 4 hates several games... I'm probably going to buy it tomorrow. I'll risk $20 for it. It even has a MIDI Gameport! I'd say that's an awesome bonus.

I COULD also buy the Audigy 2 Platinum, but I'd rather not risk the $20 or so for that.

Ryaan, awesome find on the Herbie Hancock album!

On another note... I'm hesitating on going to the flea market tomorrow. See, I spent two hours waiting to cross from Mexico to the US today... and I got in line at 6 AM. I do not want to do that again. -.-

The person behind the counter said cause it had a orange tag it would drop to $4.98 in a week, so I waited a week and went back and it was actually still there! Snagged it, and its complete and mint except for the box itself!

I ventured down to the town of Waxahachie, TX today. I didn't find anything in the few thrifts I checked out, but I did discover that a new GameXchange just opened up there a few weeks ago. I bought Gods for the Genesis, Lord of the Sword for the SMS, and Prince of Persia: Arabian Nights for the Dreamcast there. Didn't find much thrift store-wise on the way back. Google Maps isn't all that accurate with eliminating stores that closed down years ago. Anyway, on the way back I stopped at a Movie Trading Company and bought a nice little assortment of games for several systems, all bunched up in a little box on the floor there. Mario Bros., Congo Bongo, and Blueprint for the Atari 5200, Kool-Aid Man and Congo Bongo for the Atari 2600, Turtles for the Odyssey 2, Chip Shot: Super Pro Golf for the Intellivision, Jawbreaker II for the TI-99/4A, Dig Dug for the Commodore 64, and an unlabeled Parker Bros. cartridge for the Colecovision. All those games from the Movie Trading Company were $1.99 each.

I bought games for ten different systems today. Might be a new personal record. I don't buy stuff for that many machines at a game convention!

Went over to a thrift store I haven't been to in a few months and got the following:

Nintendo 64 controller - 1st party - Transparent Green with good analog stick - $3
PlayStation SCPH-9001 - $5
PlayStation SCPH-9003 - $5 - It's a Japanese model, probably one of the first import items (well at least gaming-wise) I've seen there. I do wonder how it ended up there (along with the 8 other PS1 systems they had).

Nowadays I keep my eye out for PS1 consoles from Japan. I will occasionally come across Japanese games in the wild, but so far not a console to play them on. I do however own a few UK Playstation games and the accompanying console to play them on (which I still haven't tried out since I don't have a step-up converter).

I'm incredibly fascinated by how these import games end up not only in the US, but in a flea market or a thrift store. Why did someone go to such an expense to import the things, then drop them in a donation box years later rather than selling them on eBay? You'd think they would know that the games had some kind of worth, for nothing other than being imports at least.

Interesting you bring up going through all the trouble/expense of importing and then just letting it go for nothing. I opened up said system (which is actually the Asian model, but still the exact hardware of the Japanese unit) to clean it and I discover not only did they import the system, but they also installed a mod chip in it. Now I just need to figure out if I can use a regular US power cable for it without causing any problems to the system. *Hint hint to those of you who would know*

Depending on where you are you might be able to use it. If you're in North America and the rating on the system label on the bottom of the PlayStation reads anywhere from 100V-127V it will be fine. If it was used in the Indonesian, Thai, or Taiwanese markets, as they also operate on the 100-127V scale. Essentially, either you conclude what the voltage rating on the system is or show a picture of the label.

Lot of various Zip 100/250/750 disks: $17 total. Now, why did I pay so much money? Well, these are brand new. Plus, they're Iomega branded. PLUS, they're worth quite a bit on eBay, from $25 to $35 depending on the amount of disks. I figured I'd take the risk.

Planet Of The Apes General Ursus (Aurora) model kit: $2
Action Replay MAX (two discs, no memory card): $2
Adventure Island 3 (with manual): $2
Rockabye Baby: Lullaby Renditions of Pink Floyd (promo / UPC punched copy): $1
Warcraft (DOS / Mac CD): $2

This is a bit of an oddball set, isn't it?

Both the General Ursus model kit and the Action Replay Max were bought at the same booth. The model kit is unused, but the box is crushed and some of the model pieces snapped off of their ... model... frame... thingy. I figure it's still worth a sale. I already have an Action Replay, so I bought this to trade it, I guess.

Adventure Island 3 and that weird Pink Floyd CD were bought at the same place where I got the Zip disks. That is the second "Lullaby" CD I've seen, I saw another one (but skipped it) last month. And I bought Warcraft so I could complete a set. I already had the Mac box and docs... but no disc. :)

I listened to snippets of that album on iTunes recently... er, no thanks. Ew. I've heard too many bad covers of Pink Floyd music in my life. In fact, I went into a Hastings Entertainment store yesterday and while I was there they played an entire Dark Side of the Moon cover album. It was meandering, passionless crap. It astounds me how many covers there are of Floyd music out there.

Interesting you bring up going through all the trouble/expense of importing and then just letting it go for nothing.

I've wondered about this many times, and there's actually a few possibilities. One is that someone died, and their family didn't know what the "old gaming stuff" was worth. Another is that someone was evicted or skipped town, and the landlord had to clear out the living space to find new renters.

There's some apartments behind where I work, and you know that it's "moving day" when there's interesting things piled up near the dumpster. Lots of furniture, sometimes old broken computers, but never games or movies. I'm guessing that stuff gets donated, rather than trashed.

In fact, I used to like cover songs a whole lot more before I bought that CD, and now I scrutinize them all on Amazon or iTunes before considering buying. That album essentially broke my spirit. :shameful:

Here's a quick, humorous note. I went to a Movie Trading Company in Fort Worth tonight, where I happened upon a boxed copy of Shadowrun for the Genesis. I popped open the case to see if the instruction manual was inside. Naturally it wasn't, since few people could leave the damn things in the cases and managed to lose them over the years. What I did find inside was something different. It was a folded up flyer by our own 8bitgamer, a.k.a. Brett Weiss, for his two books about Classic Home Video Games. Nice little bit of marketing there, Brett! That's the third time I've come across one of his flyers in a Movie Trading Company. Perfect place to get eyes on them!

... I never said I didn't like it. In fact, I bought The Wall 2000 and the original The Wall on the SAME DAY (http://box422.bluehost.com/~videogc7/forum/showpost.php?p=1493253&postcount=159). I listened to both, and I liked both. I liked the original more, but I liked both.

I rarely post my finds but today was one of my better ones. I got a Pioneer Laseractive with 2 of the Sega pacs and the original controller. It also came with 2 Genesis games Sonic 2 and Aladdin. I got everything for $45. I tested it with a Sega CD game and a Genisis game and they worked. I dont have any laserdisca so I am not sure if that works. I may keep the thing so I have a way to play Sega CD games. I may end up selling one of the Sega Pac things though.

Aaaaaaaand that would explain why you tend to pick up so many crazy, weird, wacky music CDs. You are a musically braver man than I.

I recently received the figurine from Nintendo. It looks sweet. \\^_^/

(Photobucket link screwup so I have to delete them)

Other game I picked up

James Bond 007 Night Fire GBA
Blaster Master GBC
Ys: Oath in Felghana
Ogre Battle

I picked up Ogre Battle for $60 at the local classic game store. I think I may overpaid, but the condition is pristine.

Sooo... It's Sunday so flea market trip again.

Not really worth pictures... But I'll provide links with info on the items I got. Firstly, I stopped at the same booth that had all those PS1 games cheap last time, I got a minty boxed copy of NASCAR Racing 2002 Season for a whole $1. I thought it was the 2003 one, so meh.

The electronics vendor that had the 2 pairs of Pioneer SE-450 (http://www.djresource.eu/Topics/story/39/Pioneer-SE-450/) headphones still had the darn things, I got both for $15. There aren't any on eBay to go by so I hope they're desirable to collectors, I think I did alright considering there's a whole page of DJs calling them "legendary" LOL

One booth with games, I got a copy of NES Gun.Smoke and Pac-Man (licensed version)... Was told $3 a piece and offered $5 for both which was taken.

Another booth, an older man who has interesting things from time to time had a pair of Commodore 1541 drives sitting on the table. I asked if he had any of the actual computers that went with them and he said some guy came by and bought all of the 5 systems he had, leaving all the accessories. I said to the guy that that's crazy to buy all them at once (no matter how awesome the C64 is) and he said the person buying them said there was a gram of gold in each computer.... Yeah. He then went on to say that I was PROBABLY TOO STUPID TO KNOW THAT. O_O WTF? Who says that to a customer? Still reeling back in shock that he'd say that to someone, and I countered with "Yeah, I'm not going to spend $1200 on a kiln to melt the gold off the circuit boards inside". He looked at me and snorted. Yeah, that's a good way to lose customers.

Anyways, the "Why the hell did I buy THAT?" buy of the day was a Sanyo VM-4209 (http://tom12.tech.officelive.com/iCOMSanyoVM4209.aspx) monitor. It has CB/HAM radio style Antenna plugs as it's inputs. I have no idea how to use the thing as I think it's HAM radio related, I just thought it looked cool.... It was a mere $4.

At the monthly video game gathering, I picked up a silver Game Boy Pocket with Pokemon Blue inside that someone was giving away for free, and a pristine copy of Darius Gaiden for $10 from DP's own GrandAmChandler.

I like how they're BOTH Mario.

Well obviously they were trying to do a callback to the days of Super Mario Bros. 1 and 3 and Super Mario World when Luigi was just a recolored Mario instead of a unique sprite.

Or they were just too lazy to make a separate Luigi mold.

Finally, in a value bin in my local Canadian Tire (a hardware store) I picked up Premier Manager 2003 for GBA...a UK Exclusive title. How it made it's way here? No idea. But for $5, my import compassion meter was off the chart. Also, an oh-so-lovely DVD called "Robo Vampire". I couldn't pass that up at a measly $1.67. Can't wait to watch it!

Yeah, I've seen PEGI-rated stuff at my local CT too. I guess it's overstock that got shipped around to get dumped in bargain bins, but why Canada?

Their large French-speaking population, maybe? If the game has a French language option, anyway.

I'm about 2 months behind on my find posting. There's more where this came from since mid-September.

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i168/kyle152006/SDC16175.jpg

-Eraserhead LE ($11.99 on eBay. Seller shipped it in the original Lynch shipping box!)
-Ehrgeiz ($12.99 from Zone-1 in Helena. Even has the spine card!)
-Bleach: Heat The Soul 7 ($53.90 from NCSX. Total letdown, especially considering the others were quite good. More on this one later...)

EDIT: My avatar seems to have gone bonkers. Is anyone else having the same issue?

That's the thing, most of the ones I see are less French than many Canadian games that come with second manuals.

I've passed on multiple copies of this at the Flea Market during the summer, it just looked too horrible for me to risk it. It was tempting though.

Though it's Robocop on the cover, he doesn't look anything like that in the film. More like duct tape and pie plates. And apparently you can weld with sparklers.
