My brother had to work early today so he gave me a ride on his scooter in the morning. We crossed the border in FIVE MINUTES. I really need to buy me one of those... Anyway.
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/dp-2010-12-24a.jpg
$1 each. That stupid Freddy Vs Jason book is finally mine! Also, that Marvel: 1991 in Review magazine is completely hilarious. And that cover! Guess they didn't read Illuminati... :D
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/dp-2010-12-24b.jpg
$1 each.
Games: Monster Rancher (PS1), ESPN NBA2Night (DC), Wild Metal (DC)
CDs: MC Hammer: Too Legit To Quit, Danny Elfman: Batman Returns soundtrack, VA: The Rebirth of Cool, VA: In The Name of The Father, VA: Muppet Treasure Island (new), Dave Gahan: Dirty Sticky Floors single (with two b-sides not on the album), Tommy Tallarico - Endgame: Classic Games Gothic Drama
ETA: That Tommy Tallarico album is apparently the soundtrack for Evil Dead: Hail To The King. WOW.
One booth had tons of CDs and that's where I found those. I spent about a half hour combing through all their boxes. They also had comics but they wanted $1 per issue so I only picked out the Marvel one above.
The booth where I got that Muppet Treasure Island disc also had about 10 different Depeche Mode singles from Ultra, Songs of Faith and Devotion and Music for The Masses - many were the rare extended LCDBong versions.... but many had water damage (it rained all Wednesday, and it was really humid yesterday and this morning) so I passed on 'em. :(
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/dp-2010-12-24c.jpg
$5 each. Apparently they had more, but most were gone by the time I got there. Still, I've been hoping to find a copy of Silver for years, and Soul Reaver is always a nice find. :)

I bought a copy of Eternal Champions missing the manual for $3 from Goodwill. I knew there was a game called Eternal something that was worth some money, turns out it was Eternal Guardians. Oh well, I should be able to make my money back.

Picked all this stuff up today (except the wii game) on a quick 3-store run:
http://i707.photobucket.com/albums/ww75/evanwink42/Finds/finds238.jpg
Savers:
SNES w/ controller - 13
Office 2003 Pro, Pro Academic, & Student Teacher - 20 each
Fatal Frame - .99, it is missing the disc :( marked 4.99 and they used to keep discs in a binder so I had them get it out of the case and took it to the register. When they didn't have the disc I asked if she'd make me a deal on case/manual (in really nice shape) and she said .99... sold.
Unique
DDR - 5.50 or so (also got a GBC rechargeable pack and Office 97 with it all for 8.03)
Ready 2 Rumble and the Demo - 1.93 total. the DC game is mint or I probably would have passed.
SA
Adobe Audition 2.0 - .99 (not priced so the guy punched that in)
Retail deals I've gotten and feel like sharing:
Red Wii - 199 w/ $75 credit from Amazon, came with box damage, I called customer service and since they are out of stock they'll be giving me some sort of additional credit (rather have a perfect box, though)
Red DSi XL - 171.39 at Best Buy, but I used the $10 Reward Zone coupon they gave me for no reason, so 161.39, and it came with a $30 gift card.
2 each of DS Lego Indiana Original, Battles, and Batman - 43.07 from Toys R Us.com. mostly gifts and will flip a couple
Wii Super Mario All-stars - 21.54 after some credit I almost forgot I had at GS.com.
I normally don't spend this much in 6 or 8 months. Went a little nuts, especially since I'm keeping so much of it, but oh well the total damage won't be so bad considering how much stuff I've sold this holiday season.

nice score, especially for the price!.
The hearsay 1000 is pretty cool, hopefully it came with the software and manual. They came in both black and white, I have had both at one time or another.

I recently went to a media type store and they had a gutted copy of the Metroid Prime Trilogy for $40 displayed.
It was in decent condition, so I decided to pick it up. Naturally, the disc was somewhere in the back, so the employee took the gutted copy to go get the disc. He came back with a sealed copy. I was like :eek 2:

Well, these were the items I received in the mail a few days to a week ago. Just haven't had time due to work.
First, a 4 game lot from Ebay:

Second, Fortune Builder CIB (great condition) from Ebay:

Third, the 15 Colecovision lot from Ebay (from the Ebay topic):
http://img574.imageshack.us/img574/8803/img0561q.jpg
As you can tell, there are more than 15 games...22 to be exact. This is because the seller added a few extras in the package! And some of those extras I need, which was awesome! Thanks SpaceDice!
scored some nice C64 stuff:

I got two video games for Christmas...both were given to me by my nephew Derek. I also gave him one...I gave him Super Mario Galaxy 2 for the Wii. He got his Wii just a few weeks ago. He got me the following two games for the PS3...which I also got just a couple of weeks ago (okay, maybe around 3 weeks ago)...
LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures
Bioshock
This gives me a grand total of 3 PS3 games! And Bioshock is my first "Greatest Hits" game for the system. :devilish:

12-26-2010, 07:13 PM
Well, I've managed to make a few decent finds using the money I got for Christmas. I took advantage of the B2G1 sale at Gamestop this morning to get a few things, as well as ordered a few things on Amazon (Using a gift card I was given) and Rosenqueen (On top of preordering something that I had to have when it comes out).
- Super Mario Galaxy (Wii. With case, in good shape): $30
- Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 FES (PS2. Complete in near mint condition): $30
- Phantom Brave (Wii. Complete in near mint condition): Free
- Prinny PSP sleeve (New): $12
- Prinny 2: Dawn of Operation Panties, Dood! (PSP. New w\ Asagi pin): $40 [Preordered]
Since $30 was going to be the cheapest I'm going to find it now, after passing it up for $15 new a few years ago, I decided to splurge and get Persona 3 FES for $30; while also replacing Super Mario Galaxy, and picking up Phantom Brave as the free game. The disc for SMG is a little rough but works find, they accidentally gave me the disc for the regular version of Persona 3 (I got it swapped out with no problems; the correct disc being in far better condition as a nice bonus for my trouble), and Phantom Brave looks like it was played once or twice (The slip cover to the case has some shelf wear and dried-on price stickers, but that's to be expected).
Also, I just had to preorder Prinny 2; I loved the first one, and want more portable platform hell with explosive penguins, dood.
Non-gaming stuff:
- Doctor Who: Remembrance of the Daleks - Special Edition (DVD. New): $15
- The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya: Season 2 (DVD. New): $50
I'm glad I waited to get the special edition of Remembrance of the Daleks; I almost bought it for $25 shortly after it came out, but decided to wait until later (Even though that's one of the episodes I've really wanted to get). Also, I like Haruhi Suzumiya; I had to get season 2 when I finally had the money. If I'm lucky, Doctor Who will be in by Friday; in which case, I'll probably stay up late and watch it for New Year's Eve, like I did with Logopolis last year.
I got this in the mail last week ^__^

You'd think with 5 days off over Christmas break that I would have found the time to load up on trips to thrifts, but no. Very little time spent looking at games, but I did manage to find a couple:
Half Price Books:
Descent (PS1) - longbox ribbed version complete - $4
Rugby 2005 (xbox) - mint and sealed brand new - $1 (had a ton of these)
MOvie Trading Company:
Pac-Man Pinball Advance (GBA) new sealed - $7
Mega Race (Sega CD) - complete - $3.99
Mad Dog McCree (Sega CD) - complete - $4.99
4 Wheel Thunder (DC) - complete - $7
Deadly Moves (Genesis) - complete - $2.99
Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends (Gen) - no manual $3.99
and a couple others that I can't remember right now.
While in MTC I spotted a Kinect in their display case and inquired about it, learning that they have only one left. I've heard nothing but bad things about the games and most of the local stores are only selling the Kinect in bundle form - meaning you are forced to buy two crappy games for the priveledge of owning the hardware. No thanks. So finding the Kinect alone I went ahead and purchased it for a family Christmas gift. I gotta say we've had a lot of fun with it over the weekend playing only Kinect Adventures so I give it a thumbs up!!

Day after Christmas the Goodwills had an "every color tag 50% off" sale. I picked up a few cheap things for cheap, laughed at how the one Goodwill in preperation for this sale jacked up the prices on everything ($35 for a PS2 that they normally mark at $15, $20 for most of the disc-based games, ie, PS2, Xbox & 360 sports titles, so yeah God of War was $20). I also picked up a couple of "money" games (from the Goodwill w/ the jacked up prices, surprisingly). I got:
Oni - $2.50
Super Mario World - $5
Raise the Red Lantern DVD - $2
Rex Ronan - $2.50
Call of Cthulhu (Xbox) - $5
Those last two are going for $20 and $40 respectively (and Cthulhu sold within an hour of going up on Amazon). From another Goodwill I got a Call of Duty PSP game, TMBG A-B-C DVD and the Robotech Remasters v. 3 box set.
Also recently picked up a brand new sealed GBA SP (Graphite w/ the brighter screen) from Craigslist for $35 and sold it for $170 on Amazon.

I always just use rubbing alcohol, but I'm seriously lazy about stuff like that so I don't usually use the best method, just the easiest.

Don't use rubbing alcohol, you run the risk of damaging the artwork. I messed up a CD that way. :\

Don't use rubbing alcohol, you run the risk of damaging the artwork. I messed up a CD that way. :\There's a chance of ruining it with anything. I've used paint thinner to remove residue on a PS1 game before - controlled/minimal quantity with low friction/pressure application. Disc looks fine now and works too. Rubbing alcohol is certainly a safer bet than paint thinner, just don't rub too hard and use small amounts and you should be fine.

I found that those magic erasers seems to do a very good job without damaging the surface of things, just make sure you get the name brand as the cheap ones haven't worked for me. I believe it's Mr Clean Magic Eraser.

I use lighter fluid (Naptha) - it's safe for most surfaces, dries very quickly and won't stain.
Works pretty well on stickers too

Actually that's a good point and a good alternative. Even though control of application is greater with those white eraser sponges, they can be very abrasive. I have one and I often never remember to use it, instead of rubbing alcohol or paint thinner.

I just picked up one of these too, same price plus tax at Zellers. I remember the same store having these last year for $19.99 and I passed on it then. For those in the states new copies are cheap on Amazon from independent sellers, pretty much the same price.
I also got a couple DVDs from Wal-Mart a few days ago, Adventures in Babysitting and The Goonies for $3.99 each plus tax. I remember liking these movies so I decided to pick them up. That's it for Boxing Week.

Oddly, it was SA that came through for me today (it has been dry for ages). I got the Genesis games (Battletoads & DD, BOB, Rocket Knight, Flashback, Battletoads, & Kid Chameleon) for 1.99 each, only BOB has a manual :(. Also got PS2 Duel Masters sealed for 1.99 not knowing anything about it... looks like I should have left it behind! Last at SA was Nascar 2003 season for .99. They also the Laserdisc of Babe (the pig movie), but marked at 14.99! I asked a worker if it was priced right, and she also though it was crazy, but I think she thought it was a record. She took it to a dude that works there who probably priced it, and it was intentionally marked 14.99. I've been keeping an eye out for that movie since it hasn't been on dvd and it is really good, but screw that. Even on eBay it goes for less than 10 shipped.
Got Bubble Bobble for Game Gear at another thrift for 2.45, and the Halo xbox controller at a GW for 2.99.

I've been keeping an eye out for that movie since it hasn't been on dvd and it is really good, but screw that. Even on eBay it goes for less than 10 shipped.
Babe is on DVD.

Crap, I really gotta remember to proofread my posts; there are way too many inexcusable typos in there!
Also, when did it hit DVD? Looks like 2007... can it really have been that long ago that I was looking for it? I also see that it is going to be out on Blu April 5! That makes me sound more excited about it than I am...

I was going to mention Babe being on DVD. I thought you meant the John Goodman film for a minute there. ^^;

Visited a bunch of thrifts yesterday, but only found stuff at one store. They had a bunch of Intellivision carts, some behind the counter and some out on the shelves, go figure. They all had different prices, I bought these four and with the white tag 25% off I paid $30, more than I would normally pay for 4 games, but I think it was worth it.

No, the other pig. Thank you, I'll be here all week.
At least he was part of The Big Lebowski.

Got a kid free hour or two this morning and was able to stop at 4(!) thrifts while out and about. I can't remember the last time I was able to go to that many thrifts plus other stops all in one outing.

Got Bubble Bobble for Game Gear at another thrift for 2.45, and the Halo xbox controller at a GW for 2.99.
Wow. Super coincidence. I ALSO found bubble bobble game gear and Nascar 2003 at a thrift today!
Also, a few random loose GB games: Pokemon Blue, Megaman 4 Blue Moon, Spyro Season of Ice, etc. Bubble Bobble was totally the highlight!

It first hit DVD in 1997 which is the same year DVD players first became available in North America. The special edition I linked to came out in 2003, the two pack with the sequel included was 2005. The earliest releases weren't in widescreen, only pan and scan. Thankfully the more recent releases are in the original aspect ratio.
Here's more info about the releases, it's more detailed than Wikipedia.

Mass Effect 2 Strategy Guide- $6
Treasure Master- $4
StarTropics- $5
I just realized how much I love strategy guides. Too bad they never drop this low at places like Best Buy, I've yet to see penny guides around here.

The Hogs of War disc unfortunately has been written on with marker. Are there any good ways to get marker off of a disc?
Write directly over the existing marker with a dry erase marker a few times and wipe it off. For whatever reason, dry erase markers will dissolve permanent marker, assuming it's not on there for ages. A lot better than using freakin' "magic erasers" -- those things are mildly abrasive, that's how they get off stains.

I must have been all uppity about watching it in widescreen, and at the time LD was the best way to do that. I do remember the movie being in the $30 range on LD then, too. Good to know, but doubt I'll buy it anyway.

I didn't find ANY games today. The one booth that brings lots of goodies to the flea market today... didn't open. They went home to San Bernandino. Bleh. :P
I did buy other stuff though. Food4Less, a local supermarket chain (part of Kroger's) had a "Buy 2 DVDs from this rack for $9.88" promo. Single DVDs are usually that price, so I looked around and got 007: Casino Royale 2 disc edition. That was about $5 with taxes. And I found a DVD with three classic noir movies (I forget which ones) for $1 at the dollar store. That's it. Happy new year. Go get drunk or something. :P

You'll make several times what you spent on River Raid and Congo Bongo. Those go for quite a bit on the Intellivision IIRC.

second time i've found a sega sports controller, this one is in beautifull shape with a working sega clear vmu, not bad for 6$ makes me want to hunt down a sports dreamcast (even though i hate the system overall) the arcade stick is for gamecube, I really coudln't pass it up for 15$ (30% off as well) since my wii is modded i can at the very least use it for that, i wonder how hard it would be to mod for other systems?

I hit a heap of stores today, found next to nothing. One thrift had a heap of old science fiction paperbacks on their racks, including two Doctor Who novels, so I picked them up for 99¢ each out of sheer geekiness. Many stores later, I bought a loose Tomy Digital Derby missing the battery door for $4.94. Pretty bleak thrift store shopping today. I did see a thousand cars lined up to donate stuff at pretty much every thrift I went to today, I guess people are looking for a tax break by donating their crap. I'll be hitting many of those thrifts again after the new year, hopefully all those people donated some good stuff.

I managed to track down a commodore 64 for $5 in pretty trashed condition - no idea if it works yet, but I'm still counting it as going towards my collection completion XD, and I also got a Superscope almost-CIB for $20. It's missing the battery cover. If anyone knows where I can get a superscope batter cover.... :/

When you're a collector "better" doesn't enter into it. It's all about "rarer."
