My lone game find yesterday was an SNES cart:

Battleclash - $2

A pretty meh way to start the month, but it does put me at 250 SNES games, and I now have more than one Super Scope-compatible game in the collection (the other being Lamborghini American Challenge).

Lot sale again but not much.

My 2 obsessions continue: little vintage microphones and broken PS2 systems. I got a model 30001 fat PS2, as-is condition (though probably broken) for $5, a Realistic omnidirectional ball microphone for $1, and a nice little Sony microphone (one of the ones with 2 weird prongs on the end of it's wire) with a stand and case for $1 as well.

Also, a loose Sega CD system, $5. Oooh #2, the loose system is a model 1, the one that fits on the bottom of an original Sega Genesis. Dunno what's different between it and a standard model but I guess it was worth editing in this detail.

Oooh, also a set of Minimus 7 (http://www.angelfire.com/vt/audio/minimus.html) speakers in really great shape, $3 per speaker. The Minimus 7 speaker is a longstanding Radio Shack bookshelf set, a lot of audiophiles scoff at this brand but it's actually a very nice sounding, well built, small set.

Cheesetastic 80's flicks!

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/dp-2010-12-02.jpg

Mankillers
Stryker
Hit List (with Jan Micheal Vincent, that guy from Airwolf!)
Oceans of Fire
Gamepro Tips & Strategies Vol. 1
Cross Mission (with a Michael Dudikoff endorsement!)
The Grey Fox (I think this is worth money on eBay... or used to be worth money.)
The Destructors (Bizarre? The cover is bad enough thank you!)
No Dead Heroes (Nazi scientists in the jungle brainwash a US hero into killing his family, the pope, and the president!)
Coldfire (had to pad out the bag)

All of this was $3. There was one huge bucket with VHS tapes, but the guy didn't empty it. Maybe he will tomorrow!

And in case you're wondering why I'm not posting anything from Wednesday... well, in short, the line to cross to the US on foot was about 3 hours long at 4:30 AM. I said "Fuck this" and went back home. :p

Sell? Nah. But trade? That I can do! I may transfer some of these to AVI too if there isn't any official DVD out. :)

ooo 80s films!!! not to go off topic but interesting finds from yesteryear one i wish i made a purachase on but didn't and one i did!

but i wish i was smart about it. At a local thrift store about 5 ago there was a entire box of like new Betamax tapes (including horror classics such as Friday the 13th) with box and all almost mint. Should have pounced on that

But one i am glad i pounced on is a movie i have been told is a classic of course but is hard to find for some reason is i got a original VHS copy of "The Monster Squad"

but i am loving these threads you guys got me so inspired i am gonna be checking out my local goodwill store (burlington vermont) for anything! keep on picking!!!

Any specific titles you're looking for? What do you use to transfer your VHS to your computer? I need to get something like that.

But one i am glad i pounced on is a movie i have been told is a classic of course but is hard to find for some reason is i got a original VHS copy of "The Monster Squad"Ah yes. I haven't seen that one, but "Wolfman's got gnards" gets quoted a lot. Anyway, that's been out on DVD for about a year or so, and it's readily available everywhere now - even Walmart. I hear the extras are pretty decent.

Any specific titles you're looking for? What do you use to transfer your VHS to your computer? I need to get something like that.

Not really, I just look at stuff, read the back of the box, and get it if it looks funny / stupid / interesting. As for transferring VHS stuff, I use an Adaptec Gamebridge (which isn't the easiest method around), but there's other solutions out there - a DVD Recorder works for most VHS movies, for instance. There's capture boxes that transfer video feeds in ready-to-edit h264, too. That's probably the easiest method available. Arasoi's been uploading his own tape / laserdisc rips to Youtube, you're better off asking him for info.

I blame The Cinema Snob (http://thecinemasnob.com/) for reminding me of the glory of VHS.

oh i got the dvd too

but the vhs one is i am proud of.

its kinda like the movie version of FF7 for PS1

original run in collectors markets through the roof. cause so few of them.
Greatest hits version not so much cause they are every where. So i am keeping it and hoping maybe some day a guy will be collecting VHS's for a hobby and be like "monster squad? WHA?!?!?!?!? wheres my check book" haha

"HIT EM IN THE NARDS!!!!!"
Werewolves don't have nards............. *kick and watches wolfman cringe in pain* ..."wolf man has nards...." best line EVER!

Managed to land another good find. :)

http://inverteddungeon.com/triacesuperfan/storage/finds02022010.JPG

Aerowings (Dreamcast) - 1.49

Soul Fighter (Dreamcast) - 1.49
Time Crisis (PlayStation) - 1.49 (Even though the case has to be swapped out, it is complete with the back insert.)

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass strategy guide - 0.99
Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days strategy guide - 0.99
Suikoden (PlayStation) - 2.99 (Yay! Complete and quite mint besides some scuffs and small cracks on the case.)

Would've been cool if I had found a PS1 RPG that I don't have yet and would have been ever cooler yet to find the sequel, haha, but I ain't complaining. :) Nice to find more cheap adventure/RPG guides as well. Now I kinda wish I had passed on the Final Fantasy X-2 guide I bought a month ago since I came across another, which seemed like it was in slightly better condition (and if it was anything like the others, maybe it had the poster too, which mine doesn't), and I believe these were slightly cheaper. Oh well, hopefully someone else will enjoy it. I also passed on some cheap systems, like a 5.99 Xbox with hook-ups but no controller and a N64 for $2.99 with just the power cable. Could've bought the N64 for reselling, but I don't really have the time right now. I still need an Xbox for myself, but I'm waiting to find one with everything I need.

I've been pretty good at not buying too much lately, but it doesn't hurt to pick up a few goodies here and there.

I found Castle of Shikigami 3 for the Wii, $10 (I don't think I've ever paid top dollar for a shooter yet, especially on the Wii). Plus I had 80 points left on my Xbox Live account, so I thought I'd give "Breath of Death VII" a try.

A light day today.

Herbie Hancock: River: the joni letters
Dexys Midnight Runners - Master Series
Underworld: dubnobasswithmyheadman
Brazil Classics 1: Beleza Tropical (compiled by David Byrne)
Brazil Classics 2: O Samba (compiled by David Byrne)
Windows ME Upgrade CD w/key - $1

The music CDs were from one booth. The guy had tons of boxes with VHS tapes, and some with CDs... sadly, most of the CD cases were EMPTY! There was some awesome Jazz stuff from Verve and Blue Note, and all the CDs were GONE. I was sad. :(

Other than that, today really sucked.

ETA: Crap... Brazil Classics 2 is full of holes and won't rip right. DAMMIT. >_<

Found Skullmonkeys (PS1) today at a pawn shop. I'm surprised as this place normally doesn't have any games. Kitsune or anyone else interested, I have a couple of large boxes of tapes that I'm getting rid of. I can send some for the cost of shipping.

edit: my finds were bupkiss (sp?) today. Nothing at the thrift today, though I did see a girl with a handful of NES games, 1 of which was Contra. Stupid 'having to feed the baby before going thrift shopping and missing all the deals' life I live. ;)

Found a 30001 fat PS2 with two third-party controllers this morning at Goodwill for 9.99. Needs the dust blown out of it, and the tray doesn't move very smoothly, but so far it has played a DVD movie, a silver game, and a purple game. I'd say that covers it.

I've come across these things a few times in the past, but always passed on them. But my love of collecting '70s and '80s electronic handhelds and toys made me finally break down and grab one. It helps that it was only a dollar. And it was sponsored by Don Adams from Get Smart!

Also got Contra Force and Pokemon Red but they are already sold on Ebay.

Well, I got my only Black Friday purchase in the mail today!

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/dp-2010-12-04.jpg

... What? It was like $5 shipped. Don't judge me!

Also, it's time to piss you people off. Guess what I found at the flea market today? A Twin Famicom. It was pretty dirty, slightly rusted, and I think it had a few spiders inside too. I doubt the floppy drive even worked. It didn't have the power cord but the pads were still well, there. I was going to buy it until the guy gave me the price - $15 - at which point I put it back on the table and walked away. And then the guy gets angry at me for not liking his price...

I told him "IT'S BEAT UP, DIRTY AS HELL AND RUSTY, I'm not paying $15 for something that may not even work!" And my entire budget for the day was $15. So yeah. I'm not planning on going back there tomorrow, he'll probably try to sell it to me for $40 or something instead. :(

Steve W
12-04-2010, 12:37 PM
The guy probably had no idea what a Twin Famicom was, he was just trying to flog something off on you. I've seen that many, many times at flea markets. Just trying to get the most for some junk they either bought in a thrift store to resell or stole from someone's unlocked backyard shed, then they offer a stupidly high price for it when it's obvious it won't work and isn't worth it.

InsaneDavid

Bah, I would have bought the Twin Famicom, stuff like that is fun to restore. Besides, almost EVERY Famicom Disk System is going to need at least some work done to it at this point. If people passed up worn down video games and never attempted to restore them, there would be absolutely no surviving classic arcade games these days. That said I love both my Twin Famicom AN-505 BK and my Galaxian cocktail table (serial number 367). If it had the power cord you'd have no excuse LOL but without it, okay, I see passing that one up... maybe.

I currently have $15 to my name and $18 in the bank. I owe the local government $80 in back fees from their stupid "street repaving initiative" that I DIDN'T EVEN WANT. I can't afford to buy this stuff, sales have been way down lately. Sometimes I have to let things go. :P

found a place that has some classic games for sale today in vermont

gorilla games its called they have about a dozen locations sprawled across the country.
Don't know if anyones been to one.
They work sorta on a pyramid scheme like setup....... sorta..
What you do is you setup a store in their name although you technically own the store. You buy games from the company and keep the profit from it. Or atleast thats what their site says.... Sounds kinda sketchy to me.

But anyways wanted to see what it offered differently then Gamestop
They had a bin full of classic games like a dozen NES games, about 40 or 50 N64 games, 100 or so PS1 games, 30 SNES games, and 20 i would say Genesis games.

Was flipping through and out of all those i found litterally one game that might have been a ok buy (Tazmania for Genesis) at $3.99. Everything else. Forget it.
They had a copy of SNES Super Mario Bros World. Crappy condition with label half ripped off going for 20 dollars. Yea as soon i saw that i just quickly continued flipping very quickly and walked right out of the store saying to myself that they are friggin morons and crazy.

I am stopping at the only good will store in vermont tomorrow hopefully i'll find something there! :evil laugh:

I went on a long flea market trip today, didn't get anything except dirt grains in my right eye. I ended up driving to Tyler, TX and hitting a GameXchange. Bought loose copies of Space Harrier, BC Racers, and After Burner for the Sega 32X, plus Shockwave 2 for the 3DO, jewelcase and instruction manual only. A little over $18 after taxes altogether.

Picked up Super Mario Sunshine for $5 off a Craigslist ad. They had more games they were selling, but that was the only one I was really interested in. Plus I didn't want to spend more money.

At a Blockbuster I stopped at after an interview I passed on used copies of God of War III for $19.99 and Bioshock 2 for $14.99. Both because I couldn't justify spending that much on games when I have so much to play still. Everyone who can justify spending that much may want to check out their local blockbuster.

Flea market, a chilly not-too promising morning was actually eventful:

Solidworks Personal Edition was $1 at a random booth, it's been opened.... I'm going to see if it's actually been activated/registered/used/whatever and if so it's going to the trash, meh $1 lost if so.

The 360 game and i-Ninja were $2 a pop at another random booth, Spider Man 3 is actually inside the Transformers case.

The "Overpriced video game resale guy I really hate" had the 3 NES games, you can see his annoying neon $5.00 stickers on them. I offered him $10 for all 3 and he accepted. I don't have these games in my NES library yet (Gilligan's Island, Rad Gravity, and Cliffhanger). I know that Cliffhanger and Gilligan's Island are really terrible (although Rad Gravity is pretty good, in my opinion) but I wanted them for my collection and anything to keep them from a sun-faded fate. I finished putting my entire NES collection into RFgeneration the other night, and I'm proud to say that after adding these games, I now have 306 unique NES titles.

A really sweet lady that sells toys, from whom I've gotten some neat stuff in the past had some video games. The Gameboy games were $2 a pop from her. I have all 3 already but with Christmas so close I can see these games being easy sellers on eBay right now. I was stunned to see FFVII hidden in the back of her booth. I handed it to her and asked how much. She said since it was 3 discs she'd need to have $10 for it and I couldn't see any reason why I shouldn't give that much. Disc 1 & 2 are in nice minty shape while #3 has a few light scratches... odd. Anyways the manual is in there and the case is a bit cracked but I don't see why I can't make a little money off of it.

Insanity, I just checked the going rate for dvd and vhs. I am always behind on these trendy items. Remember the Michael Jackson craze. I need to try and plan for the next big thing starting now. I dont know, maybe the death of cher? elton john?

I have a stack of great condition Elton John LP's in the closet for that very reason.

My new video card I won through work! HUZZAH! It are awesomeness. (also won a printer, but whatever...lol)

Absolutely beautiful.

Hmm, I got some stuff over the past few weeks. Need to take a few pictures and post I guess. Christmas time has been busy time unfortunately.

well ya'll finally made me catch the video game picking bug

went to my very first goodwill stores (didn't realize there was 2 of them in the burlington area just remember only one just recently going up and when i looked them up i saw there was another one just 7 miles away O_O)

and i didn't expect to get anything being lame vermont and all. but i actually found a few things to get the ball rolling on this new hobby.

http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd158/car_show_fan/carshows2/Finds1.jpg

The Vegas Stakes SNES game was loose and very random don't know much about it but it was mint despite being loose and was only 99 cents and anything under a buck is a good deal unless its sticky or smells funky lol

Dave Mirra's BMX for the PS1 has some light scratches on it but nothing bad and was $1.99. I use to play this game on my cousins ps1 back in the day all the time good game!

and just for myself i found a pretty good copy of Tomb Raider 2 for the PC for $2.99

things i found that i could have spent money on but didn't not knowing what they were worth... I found complete boxed PC copies of the game "Riven" the sequel to myst. in like new state. They were 6 bucks... but i don't know if that would be a good deal or not.

So yea nothing special but good to get the ball rolling on this i hope to be a great adventure!

Nice Score. No Dead Heroes is absolutely insane Z Grade schlock!!! and Stryker is a "classic" Italian rambo/mad max rip-off...both of those tapes are pretty damn rare too, usually go for 20 bucks or more...

Damn. I'd punch a polar bear in the face to find one of those Tomy 3D handhelds. I've always wanted to try one of those out. Nice handheld finds! Since I don't find much videogame-wise that I need, I tend to look for electronic toys when I shop now. It's so cool to come across those types of things.

Really? I bought them because they looked stupidly awesome... if I can flip them, then that's awesome!

Today's finds:

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/dp-2010-12-06.jpg

The guy that sold me the Office sets last week still had this thing around. He still wanted the same outrageous price but eventually lowered it down to $15.

The movie... thing on the right? POV: Point Of View. Well, it's apparently a sort of adventure game, but on DVD Video format. It was developed ... uh... produced by what remained of Trilobyte (the creators of The 7th Guest / The 11 Hour). I also own the other game mentioned in the cover, "Tender Loving Care", on DVD-game format, but a PC version exists. Anyway, the booth owner was selling movies for $3 or two for $5. I picked up that and Night of The Living Dead 25th Anniversary, but... the disc was cracked down the middle. :(

Oh yeah, on the digital distribution side, I bought The Journeyman Project 2: Buried In Time ($3) and got Outcast for free from a friend at GOG.com.

Halo Reach Legendary edition FREE:)

My love affair with Halo Reach continues as this is the third copy I have had. I suppose I should go into the background story. So I got my regular edition of Halo Reach at launch and ended up paying $20(instead of $60) for it because of gift certificates I had to Best Buy(I also got $20 in gift certificates just for buying it but I'm not even going to count that for this story). And then last month I saw a clearance copy of the legendary edition for $105. I bought it and then promptly sold the flamming helment/elite armor code for $100 buy it now and the recon helment code for $5. My Halo Reach legendary edition just became free.

So at that point I had the legendary edition(minus the dlc codes) and the regular edition of Halo Reach for the grand total of $20. I then sold the legendary edition(minus the dlc codes) for $90 buy it now and my regular copy for $40 buy it now. With that $130 I bought the above copy of Halo Reach brand new for $80. So it was free with $50 left over, which I suppose would cover the tax of all three, although that would only be around $13 or so.

I could easily piece this legendary edition apart and make even more money but some where along the way I remembered that I still need a copy for myselfLOL. So I'm going to keep this one and the dlc codes, except for the recon helment code(since I already used the one from the regular edition I had). I'm going to sell that for $5. And I think I'm now done buying Halo Reach...until they come out with a GOTY edition.

Blockbuster is having a buy one get one free sale on all games $14.99 and under. Hit a few of the surviving stores in my area and came home with the following:

http://img838.imageshack.us/img838/2043/bbbogo.jpg

All are complete and in great shape, and once I take off the stickers, will be like new. With the BOGO sale, all games were effectively either $7.50 or $5.00 each...I'll have plenty to keep me busy over the Christmas holiday!

Lot sale today, and I got a few things. Firstly, I found a disc-only copy of Casper (PS1), I had what I *thought* was a complete copy and about a week ago I took it out to play it (this game in particular is a bit nostalgic for me) and I discovered the copy I had which I thought was complete was just the case/insert/manual so now I have the disc to go with it. Also, Parasite Eve disc 1, I think I made it out with the game but right now I don't remember seeing it in the bag, if I did in fact end up with it and it didn't fall out of my basket it's FS/FT if somebody needs a replacement disc. Those were $0.50 a piece.

I found a cute lil' Optimus STA-20 AM/FM stereo receiver. This is best described as a "mini" stereo receiver because if it's small stature. I couldn't leave it because it's in really great, albeit a little dusty, shape. I'm going to be asking like $25 or $30 for it on eBay. A lot of people bash Radio Shack brands but the Optimus STA-### receiver series is actually of pretty decent quality. This was $3 and I did test it and it powers up (I need to hook up speakers to finish testing it though)

Last thing was at the veeeeery bottom of a box, I pulled out a Cobra XRS-9775 laser/radar detector. The device is in really good shape, I tested it and it works and everything. I've already put it on eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320628083660&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT).

On Sunday, I sold a few unwanted items from my anime collection, including my loose volumes of Sailor Moon S. Yesterday, I found a few items to blow the money on:

Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing 5 inch Shadow Figure w/ Bike for $17.99 - I bought this because I wanted Shadow's bike, not the figure.

Breath of Fire III for $34.99 (Used, CIB) - I was quite surprised to find this at my local EB Games. I had no idea they carried European PSP games.

What I think is one of the last 2-3 Blockbusters in my general area...is closing apparently. I didn't know until now so a bunch of games are no longer there. I did manage to pick up the following.

-Dead To Rights: Retribution(X360)
-Inglourious Basterds(DVD)

Both for the grand total(Including 7% sales tax) of....18.13$

Not spectacular, but not terrible either.

Lot sale, not much at all. I got YET ANOTHER loose fat PS2 system (30001 model) for $5, this one looks promising as the seals on the side have not been broken. This makes a stack of 5 loose untested systems LOL (I sold the other ones I had, 11 which were broken, on eBay) Also, I got a small pile of CDs, about 8 in all with nothing really worth mentioning for $0.50 a piece. I think the best one in the lot is a Human League Octopus promo CD, so meh.

Anyways, I was digging though a decent sized pile of crappy 50s and 60s records and pulled out The Magic Ukulele of Roy Smeck, which was $1. This is a great little album, Roy Smeck is a ukulele player from back in the day, he was called the "Wizard of the strings". This record is full of great ukulele tunes.

Limited Edition The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker PAL with special sleeve (the special sleeve was in very good condition on the front and a few bits of its surface was shaded off on the bottom right corner on the back but it was still good overall) and the whole package like the two discs, manual, and case was in perfect condition. \\^_^/

I just came back from a little jump to my local game store. They had in some new Atari 2600 games so I got these for $0.95 a piece ($1 a pop is their price for every 2600 game):

M.A.D.
Rampage
Eggomania
Gopher
Towering Inferno
Wizard of Wor

Apparently they were doing some big "buy a bunch get one free" sale because the cashier told me I could get an extra, and I went over to the rack and grabbed Wizard of Wor to replace my ripped-label copy.

Also, for $4.95 a piece I got Shadow of the Ninja and Kid Kool, both R3 games on the NES. They're going to the collection and for me are games #307 and #308 (I'm not sure how I did things before using RFgeneration!)

BeeShu TG16 joystick $2, didn't realize it was a TG16 till I got home
PC joystick $3, I needed one to try out some atari5200 cables
$10 for the LD player
$2 for another LD
$6 for the Magic Drive Plus (makes backups of genesis carts to 3.5" disk)
overall not bad for a day that I wasn't going to do any shopping
