This is bothering me. Why hide what you paid? Does it really matter? And on top of that I can see the other price tags on the NES games (with the "96"), it's pretty obvious it was <$10... Kind of defeats the purpose in hiding the price.

wallydawg
11-22-2011, 02:45 AM
Yeah I was going to remove the price sticker before I took the photo but forgot. I'm not much of an SMS guy so I plan to eventually sell it (or trade it for something else that I'm more interested in), but you're right in that it doesn't matter since any price that I would have willingly paid for it is substantially less what it apparently goes for.

Yup a lot of fools out there. People just don't get that once the box has been opened it becomes forever impossible to verify its contents are US. Anyone who'd pay more for a supposedly 'complete' US Sonic over box-only, than the price of a PAL cart+manual, is wasting hundreds. Only the US box is any rarity or even identifiable at all.

Why is it worth more with a barcode?

Porksta
11-22-2011, 05:41 AM
The barcode was used to cover up the PAL code. Everything is the exact same between the PAL and NTSC versions except for the fact there is a barcode sticker. I'm guessing maybe small release number?

The box is what commands the value. But I'm pretty sure that the remainder of the contents are identical to the PAL release, so why would it matter? Loose Sonic doesn't command any money regardless of where it's said to be from, so there would be no temptation to split the game from it's case. I suppose there could be a case where someone buys a PAL copy and fakes the barcode, but that would be tough to do without it being obvious to those that know what to look for. If people spend the money without looking into it hard enough, well, you know what they say. <shrug>

That would be the key piece to the puzzle. Given that I doubt very many copies of this were imported from Europe during the height of the systems popularity, if one was found in the wild, it is likely a real US copy. If it came from ebay or another collector that can't establish provenance, it's harder to know for sure. My money is on it being a real copy though, based it's appearance being so similar to the other barcoded SMS games I have in my possesion.

Yoostar 2: In The Movies(Kinect) $8.98
Aliens Vs Predator: Gold(Pc) sealed $3.93
Dragon Age 2(360) $8.98

The two 360 games were Target clearances and the AVP game was found at a thrift store. Based on the stickers and the fact that they appear to have never been removed and resealed I'd say that this game has never been opened before. Of course, the last time I found a boxed AVP game for Pc it took me more than 6 months to sell but hopefully the fact that this one is sealed will make it an easier sell for me.

Halo Reach strategy guide
Call of Duty: Black Ops strategy guide
Crysis 2 strategy guide
Cheat Code Overload: Winter 2011

All the above were one penny each and what I decided to keep from my normally large penny guide haul. I might add a pic later with all of the guides(minus the ones I've already sold) if I get around to it later.

It's a gift for my nephew, so I am happy with it. I woulda been happier had it been worth $20 and I coulda got him something else ;)

I'm just not a big cartoon fan, unless it's a funny one. Even then, I'm picky. South Park, Beavis & Butthead, God, The Devil and Bob, The older Simpsons, Lil' Bush... these make the cut.
No Family Guy or American Dad even for me. And anime is right out.

So I headed out to Toys R Us first and decided I would shop there while killing time before going to Walmart. I got there about 10 minutes after they opened and the line was the equivalent of a 2-3 hour amusement park ride. And since it was outside and there wasn't anything I had to have there(I was just seeing if they had some dvds I wanted) I decided to leave the line that wrapped around the entire parking lot and head off to Walmart. Atleast at Walmart I'd get to wait inside.

So I got to Walmart and waited in a line specifically for 360 games. I also wanted PS3 games but they had a seperate line for them. The whole line thing didn't work so well but when I was finished this was what I walked away with...

http://i494.photobucket.com/albums/rr306/THE-1-2-P/GEDC1016.jpg

True Blood season 1 dvd $10
True Blood season 2 dvd $10
Jennifer's Body dvd $2
007: Quantum of Solace dvd $2
UFC Undisputed 2010(360) $10
Kinect Sports: Season 2(Kinect) $15
Dance Central 2(Kinect) price matched at Target $15
Heavy Rain: Director's Cut(PS3) $15
God of War III(PS3) $15
Uncharted 2(PS3) $15

I was probably the 10th or 15th person in line for 360 games and by the time I got up there they were all gone. The only reason I got Kinect Sports 2 is because somebody changed their mind and put it back. And I grabbed UFC 2010 out of the glass display case. What was funny is that after I wrestled with people trying to get 360 games, I very casually walked over to the PS3 crate where every single title was still available. I grabbed the three games I wanted and wished it would have been that easy to get the 360 games.

Dance Central 2 was completely snatched up in less than 10 seconds so I went to Target for a price match. Unfortunately one of the women at the service desk said they couldn't do it because the page with the games said "while supplies last". Um...pretty much every page of every black friday ad said that. But I didn't get mad, I just drove 5 miles up the road to the Super Target and they gladly price matched it for me the same way they did last year.

After finishing up I headed back to Toys R Us to kill time before heading to Best Buy. This time the line had died down within reason but I still ended up waiting outside for 20 minutes or so. When I got in and looked around they didn't have any of the dvds I wanted and I didn't feel like driving the 20+ miles it would take to get to the other closest location so I just went to Best Buy. After standing in a line that wrapped around the entire building(and guess who ended up at the end of that line before they opened) I got in and managed to get these goodies:

http://i494.photobucket.com/albums/rr306/THE-1-2-P/GEDC1017.jpg

Xbox 360 250 gig $199
Hard drive Transfer Cable $10
Metroid: Other M(Wii) $4.99
Sucker Punch dvd $4

I had two little incidents here. First, there was a line to get the 360's but I found one of those store-wrapped bundles they put the big elastic rubberbands around with an extra controller and hdmi cables. I was glad I got one but I put it down for a second to look at other bundles and guess what happened? Some dude jacked me. I told him I had just out that down but he just walked away from me. I was annoyed but I didn't want to make the local news so I let him go. I found another bundle around the racetrack so I still got to avoid waiting in line.

The other incident was extremely amusing, mostly unintentionally. As the cashier was ringing me up she asked if I wanted to get the store branded one year warranty. I politely said no thanks and was ready to swipe my card to finish the transaction. Then she said "but if you get the one year warranty it will protect you from the red ring of death". I gave her a look like "Bitch you are about 5 seconds away from getting pwend by me. You must have transferred here from Gamestop". But in actuality l just politely informed her that the red ring of death is no longer possible. She smiled and said ok and that was that. It's too bad I couldn't have taped that incident and posted it on youtube. She would have been a star.

So on Friday, I found a few CDs - nothing too interesting, a Nissan promo CD with a ton of Jazz, a bunch of old people playing surfer songs, but I also found an album called "Yakuza Zoo", which I got out of pure curiosity, as usual. I haven't listened to it completely yet, but judging from these previews (https://www.cdbaby.com/cd/yakuzazoo), it is AWESOME. Too bad they only made that single album (though they seem to be in advertising...) All three were $2 altogether.

Today:
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/dp-2011-11-26a.jpg
Mega Man 4 (cart only) - $2
Five VHS tapes with Mexican movies - $5 ($1 each)

You're probably wondering what's up with those movies. Well, a certain booth has had them out since Monday. Essentially... back in the 80's and 90's, a lot of video distribution companies in the US of A sold these tapes which contained one or more random movies. Their target audience was most likely the Mexican immigrants (legal or otherwise) that needed cheap entertainment. I've seen a lot of these for sale over the years, either in my flea market hunts or while visiting relatives in Los Angeles and Tennessee, but I never really bought any... until now.

I usually don't bother with them because they contain movies from the 1940s to 1960s, comedies for the most part. But these...

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/dp-2011-11-26b.jpg

These contain two favorite genres of mine: Action movies, and Albur movies. Action movies are what you'd expect. Albur ones... they're a bit hard to explain. Those are esentially very low budget, very low brow, crude comedy with a ton of tits, ass, and bush thrown in. Sexual comedies featuring a lot of double entendre and wordplay.

Sadly, a lot of these movies will never see DVD release because nobody cares about them. But I do since they're a huge part of Mexico's film history. I have no idea what to expect... but that's the fun part.

And as you can probably notice, these are really cheapy quality. They're basically bootleg videos.

Flea Market

Seems Black Friday killed the buyers, the vendors had the look of death in them..

I was happy to run into vendors whom I had got some great deals with before and or passed things up on in the past weeks..
That stunk..They no longer had the things I passed up and or Raised prices 3X

The first thing I ran into was a Nice NES set up,I knew the vendor..He sold it for $25.00...I am not interested in these anymore unless dirt cheap, they are a pain to sell
...I have a STACK of NES decks I could care less about.

Otherwise people I’ve dealt with so many times before where throwing tripled prices on me...

All I bought was Two PS2s..The guy who I’ve bought them for $5.00 so many times before raised his price to $15.00 each for every Trashed PS2..
I haggled to $10.00

..Another PS2 was $30.00 at first..the lady wanted $30.00 but her husband let it go for $12.00 then $10.00..

GBA LUNAR LEGEND..$3.00
Same guy I’ve been getting GBA games from in the box went up to $3.00 each for loose carts.
I gave up looking through his mess of stuff as it looks he has nothing less as dug deep to find that one game.

Went a little crazy this past week with Black Friday deals and mark downs...

At Best Buy I found Dragon's Lair Trilogy for $15. I also snagged Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep for $10. I tried to do a swap with Wal-Mart for the slipcase copy but the Wal-Mart copy was damaged. I'll try to find a different store that has it. On Black Friday I was able to walk in and snag one of the LoZ OOT 3DS bundles without problem. :)

At Big Lots, they had a Buy 2, Get 2 on their Wii/DS games priced $13.88. We got there late and their selection was pretty well picked through. From that we got...

Family Party: 30 Great Games Outdoor Fun
Rec Room Games
WWII Aces
de Blob 2

Stopped into a place called Ollie's which is a lot like a Big Lots and found King's Bounty: Armored Princess on PC for $3.

We went to an out of the way Target in the evening and I found Sonic and the Secret Rings for $10. They had a nice selection of marked down titles at this store and I got the following for $10 each...

Monster Hunter Tri
Bust-A-Move Universe 3DS
Dual Pen Sports 3DS

On Saturday I stopped up at Gamestop and got Sonic Generations on PS3 for $5. They had it marked down to $29.99 for Black Friday and I had a coupon good for $25 off any purchase. I took advantage of the B2G1F sale and got Kirby's Epic Yarn, Harvest Moon: Magical Melody, with my free game being Mega Man Zero Collection on DS. I also picked up Cooking Mama 4 for $20, $10 off it's normal price also because of BF.

Lastly, I went down the road to my local Target and found a marked down Okamiden on DS for $15.

All of it ending up being $5 (CDN) a game....

Megaman was $40 but ended up coming with 4 n64 games... so that brought the cost down since I needed all the n64 games that were included.

Finally got Megaman 5.. now I have all the Megamans for NES!

Even though I got quite a few sports titles, I am happy to knock off another chunk off my n64 collecting... sitting at about 120-130 n64 carts now. The carts just need a bit of cleaning.

It was the barcode from Spider Man (only the Marvel trademark info part was cut off). The buyer ends up posting later in the thread and said that he filed a claim with PayPal and was given his $500 back.

Busy busy day for me. I wanted to go to Yongsan for three reasons:

Price the GoW 3 Epic Edition I saw
Buy a screwdriver kit for my dad's Christmas
Waste time until my friend got off work and we went to go buy darts

Well, Gears of War was about $175 and I realized my dad already has an electric screwdriver, so I just shopped until my friend was done with work. This should be my last stop until I go home and (hopefully) sell everything I have bought.

Nintendo DS games, complete and about $13 each.

Pikmin 2 (complete) - $22
Fire Emblem - $9
Snowboard Kids 2 (mint) - $13

Needed a new transformer for my Xbox, apparently the old one was too weak as it has started to melt - $26
Component Cables for my 360 - $13

Met my friend elsewhere and bought these. Now when I go to bars to play darts people will think I am good.

Darts - $39
Extra tips - $3

.99 day @ Value Village for yellow tags.

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n629/ConneticutLeatherCompany/gkids-14.jpg

all of it was yellow except for the Warcraft II Expansion, that was $2.99. It's still sealed... Any of you PC gurus know what I should ask for it? I'm not too good at guesstimating PC game prices.

That's the sort of thing I put on Amazon for pretty high and just let it sit. Supply and demand are both fairly low, so when someone really wants it they don't have a lot of options. And auction won't necessarily generate lots of bids, though.

Anyway, someone has one on there for 80 right now: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0029DJI18/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&qid=1322507959&sr=8-5&condition=new I don't know specifically about this game/expansion, so can't really give you a $ amount it would sell for.

I really need to get back in the habit of taking pictures, but meh. I picked up a couple of good deals on amazon lately: PSP Trails in the Sky CE, Zelda w/ gold wiimote (pre-ordered) and I wound up getting $10 promotional credit and a $10 gift card! But what I'm really posting about is this email:

Hello,

Thanks for registering your copy of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D
in your Club Nintendo account. We know it's been a while since you registered,
but we've managed to locate a few extra copies of the soundtrack CD that was
awarded to those who registered the game in June. As you just missed getting
a copy, we're going to send one of these newly located copies to you!

If you haven't already received an email notification, you will soon!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Sincerely,

Nintendo of America Inc.
Consumer Service Department
And sure enough, the soundtrack came in the mail over Thanksgiving. I got the game new from Amazon on release, but they were out of the CDs by the time it arrived. I emailed just to make sure, and they explained that they were limited and had run out very quickly. I'm thinking my polite email way back then might have helped me get in on these? Or I was just close on the list. Pretty cool either way.

Much appreciated! I don't do Amazon (yet), but I'll try a high BIN-OBO on Ebay and see...

Very cool either way! Missing a promo sucks, but getting it later and unexpected... That's customer service. Props to Nintendo for actually sending it out and not shelfing it!

That 350 levels thing is basically a bunch of stuff downloaded from the internet and stuck in a CD. Not exactly legal or in high demand, but you'll find a buyer eventually.

Thanks... I just looked... Not Blizzard, but 'Maverick Software'...

Does that sound piratey to anyone but me?

I stopped in to a local Goodwill on Black Friday just to see what they had on offer. They're BF stuff was not of interest, so I was about to leave when I took a quick look in the glass case...

Sitting there were two copies of COD Modern Warfare 3. The first one I saw was opened, with a broken case and a $34.99 price tag on it. Strangely, sitting right next to it was a second copy brand new and sealed, marked at $14.99!

Needless to say I picked that one up (I considered the open copy for myself but I really don't play the COD games). I'll be selling it for a quick buck to help with Xmas expenses! Plus, I had the distinct pleasure of knowing that I may have gotten the best MW3 Black Friday deal in the US!

My latest stuff now added to my collection :)

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a54/Zamioa/1a1beaef.jpg

-The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Limited Edition (Brand New) ~ $43
-The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages (Complete and in Excellent condition) ~ $7
-Gradius (Mint condition) ~ .50 cents
-RPG Maker (Complete and in Mint condition) ~$10

I managed to get the Zelda bundle for that price by printing out a Gamestop's Power-Up online coupon for $5 off and using a free $25 gift card I received in the mail a while ago so I saved a good amount of money (especially with the cost that the Zelda bundle is going for online) :bday:

Well done on them Zeldas! Gamestop douches pwned!

Second little trip today:

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n629/ConneticutLeatherCompany/gkids001-11.jpg

$5 for the Tandy joystick, .99 for Princess Diana BS, NIB, $2.50 for the PS2 controller, and $10 for the Saturn. Round button, old controllers, all hook ups, and 'Bootleg Sampler' inside. Better than my morning trip, anyway. Easy to sell that Saturn.

It's been a long time since I've found something I really wanted for myself in the wild :|

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater- $1.95
GameShark- $0.95
Mega Memory Card- $0.95
The Great Circus Mystery Starring Mickey & Minnie- $4.95
Super Alfred Chicken- $4.95

I didn't realize there were other games in the Magical Quest Series, the first one was good and this one seems to be even better. Super Alfred Chicken is way better than the NES version, I'm glad I picked it up.

The GameShark is version 2.1, can I add games in with the correct code and they will work or is another revision required for newer games?

I've heard of this Mega Memory Card, apparently it saves GBC games. You copy your save over to it, but what if your cartridge's save gets deleted, I'm guessing you can just copy it back over to it and then stop using it? Or is it required the whole time? Apparently these things were good for Pokemon, but most of the GBC games I played either had multiple save spots or used passwords.

I think some require higher versions than that, unfortunately. Some require 2.2 and above (C&C if I remember correctly) and others 3.0 and above. Can't find sources as to which require which though.

I'd be interested in that WCII expansion but it's probably worth more than I'm willing to pay for it. :|

Meh, I stuck it on Ebay with a $50 BiN OBO...
If it don't sell, maybe we could work out a trade if you don't wanna buy it? I'll let ya know.

An Atari Stunt Cycle, boxed. Saw it on a high shelf in a Movie Trading Company store tucked behind their generic used game system boxes and a bunch of Wii big-box titles. It was $39.99 which I didn't mind paying, considering it's still in the box (the end piece has been torn off sadly). I now have two Atari Video Pinballs, an Atari Stunt Cycle, and even an Atari Video Music. And yet I still don't have one of their Pong consoles. I've got a bunch of other brands of Pong units, but not an Atari one. I'd even found a broken rebadged Sears Telegames Pong in the wild, but not good ol' Atari's version. Ah well, I'm sure I'll come across one eventually.

Man, one of my neighbors had this game when I was a kid. I was SO hooked on it one summer. Awesome find!

Still no decent sales to go to here, so I stopped by a thrift store and picked up this just for the sake of picking up something:

L.A. Rush, complete for the PS2

I did see a $6 boxed Planescape: Torment but decided to let it sit.

Been spending the no-sales-period that's been going on for the last couple of months padding my Steam library instead. Not very fulfilling but at least I get to play some games.
