Finds for the week, free from a co-worker

TRS-80 Model II

Gotta love the 8" floppy disc.

Find of the month IMO. I'm a sucker for anything Tandy and that is old school cool right there. Congrats!

Ran around and hit up several GS stores yesterday picking up cheap DS, PSP, and Wii games I've been after. In one store I found a GBA Polarium Advance. They had the GBA marked to 50% off so I got it for $2.50. I had the box and book at home so now I have a complete copy. :D

Duke Nukem Forever strategy guide 1 cent
Banjo-Kazooie vhs tape $1
Katamari Damacy(PS2) x2 $7.99 each
Silent Hill: Homecoming(360) $12.99

I found the vhs tape at a flea market. I wish I could find some titles that I don't already have. The N64 ones are all so damn common that you can pretty much find most of them anywhere. I never owned the first Katamari Damacy(although I played it) so I grabbed two since they were both factory sealed. Those two games and Silent Hill: Homecoming were all clearance finds. I actually already bought a copy of SH:H from there earlier this year for $20. I should have waited a little bit longer.

http://i494.photobucket.com/albums/rr306/THE-1-2-P/GEDC1091.jpg

All of these were from a pile of manuals in a small tote with N64 and Gameboy games. Hardly none of the games with accompanying manuals were there, save a few wrestling titles. At first I was just gonna get a few but when the cashier told me they would only be 4 for $1 I grabbed 12 to make it $3 worth. I suppose I can use some of these when I find the appropriate cart to sell(I just sold a Zelda: Ocarina of Time cart last week). But I'm going to keep the Perfect Dark manual and pretend it came with my XBLA copy.

I like this!

I was at my formerly favorite thrift yesterday (my wife wanted to go) and it was a bust. The day before I was there also and should have bought the 3DS Dead or Alive game they had new for $14.99 - 25%, but didn't. Not sure why other than the front looked like it had been heavily used as a hard surface to write on. It was all indented like someone went ape with a pen. I did get the Blu of Wallace and Grommit 'complete collection' for $3, and GCN Spawn for about $5. They actually have tons of great stuff in their glass cases now: NES Zelda, SNES Mario Kart/SMW/All*s/etc/etc, but they are asking eBay prices or more even after 25% off. They've just been sitting there, too, so at least people seem to know the prices are high.

This was the last good one around here. The goodwill has someone skimming the good stuff or else it is in their silent auction. The close SA closed and was super depressing anyway. And Savers has been overpricing stuff for quite a while. I only seem to find stuff that gets priced by someone else (e.g. $7 NES set at Savers last week), or stuff like PC games that slip by. I'll just have to try to get out to garage sales more come spring, since I didn't go much last year.

Speaking of overpricing, I went up to the register with one of those JakksPacific TV plug-in games and it had no price on it. The lady said it was $16, which I checked later was the price it's going for on Amazon! Fits in right next to the $25 PS1 and $25 GCN, neither of which were in good condition.

So do you keep the Nintendo Power VHS tapes or sell them? I used to have 5 or 6 but can't remember if I donated them, trashed them, or maybe they're still sitting in my parents' basement.

Any chance you'd be willing to sell the Star Fox manual by itself? I need one, but not sure it's worth it to sell without a cart.

I have a collection of them for myself and several doubles which I can't seem to even give away. Since they almost won't sell individually I'm now trying to sell them in bundles.

Nice stuff.FamicomFreak

.so coincidental to stuff of my own.

DK 64,I just put the same game in a big box of other games yesterday.

Xbox remote-sits on my sons shelf and likes to fall...,I can’t find the part that goes into the Xbox..

Original Gameboy I display on my shelf with Tetris in it...

The current N64 System I use to play and test games is that translucent red,but my controller is half translucent red and half translucent blue(I dunno, someone must of swapped them around)

I have a GOLD N64 System in box with Gold controller, but the controller is scratched up..I was just showing my friend the system in box yesterday as I’ve been milking putting it up on ebay.

NICE HALO Xbox..I collect those,I have one in the box and two loose..plus a shell for a third that’s inners were rusty I plan to swap one out of another xbox,I just haven’t had the time.

You can use a knife, letter opener or box cutter and slit the part of the tape that is covering where the box opens. That way you can open and close the box(and be able to have access to the cart inside) without having to remove all the tape and risk damaging the box.

Packing tape usually can come off pretty easily if it's somewhat fresh, just be careful about it and avoid starting at an edge of the box as it can pull up the edge and rip. By edge I mean where the box opens, the bottom edge should be fine as it's folded over instead of cut. Usually I would start at the middle of the box and move toward the edge and it's less likely to rip, but it depends on how the tape is on the box too. It's usually the board games and various instruction manuals where I have to take packing tape off. Go slow and be careful.

I just said to hell with it and peeled it off, rather easily actually. It must have been taped recently as it just peeled right off. Didn't do anything special since it was "just" NBA All-Star Challenge but thankfully it worked out ok. Plus they were nice enough to put the price sticker on the packing tape too so I didn't have to worry about peeling that off too.

I use a heat gun on a low setting or a hair dryer to help get the adhesive loose when I start pulling off packing tape on delicate stuff. It's such a pain in the ass but the tape practically falls right off once it's warmed up a bit.

The Insatiable (DVD, new) - $1
Basket Case, Halloween 2 Disc SE - $3.50 each after discount

A consignment store opened up in my US hometown and I decided to take a look. They had a lot of stuff in there but it was mostly either store returns of some sort, or expired food items. They did have some cool stuff, like musical instruments. I picked up the Halloween and Basket Case DVDs, which were $5 each, but they decided to sell them both for $8... and I had a promo flyer that knocked off $1 more. The cases were resealed, but the discs are mint. So, not bad. I've been hoping to find Basket Case for a while now and had no idea it was on DVD. Bonus.

I've been real busy this month but I had the chance to travel to Tennessee with the aunt and uncle last weekend and found some great things there and at the local thrift store where my grandmother lives.

http://i41.tinypic.com/hv1laf.jpg

Basket of PS2 stuff (slim power brick, AV cable, broken controller) was $3

The Sega Saturn games were $5 apiece. The thrift store I grabbed these from had others for $5 apiece but nothing valuable or anything I didn't have already. May grab them next time just for the hell of it if they're still in the store.

Phantasy Star was $5 at a flea market.

The knife was $9 at a knife shop in Tennessee.

Not pictured: Two vintage safety razors for $1 apiece, a Pyle turntable for $10, a Yamaha CD changer for $10, an old Yamaha SG-999 record player/tuner for $5 (broken), and a couple of vintage PC games still in my car which I'll post tomorrow. Glider 4.0 boxed, Tie Fighter boxed, two Carmen Sandiego (floppy games, boxed), and many assorted manuals for old games. Oh yea, and I had a moment of nostalgia and picked up NARC (PS2) for $3. Loved that game as a teenager.

*If anyone is interested in one of the Saturn games, let me know. The only one I would have any interest in keeping in Sonic 3D Blast but I have a copy already.

Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic(Xbox) $5
Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic 2(Xbox) $5
Mario Party 6(GC) $5
Midway Arcade Treasures(Xbox) $3
The Eye of Judgement(PS3) $3
Nintendo: White Knuckle Scorin Cd $3
Aliens Vs. Predator: Prey novel 50 cents
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Conspiracy novel 50 cents
Resident Evil: Caliban Cove novel 50 cents
Splinter Cell: Endgame novel 60 cents

The two Star Wars: Kotor games and Mario Party 6 were from a pawn shop. It felt good finally getting a good deal from there. They had a few unmarked Mario games for various systems and their rule is that all Mario games(regardless of system) are priced to atleast $20(Nes, Snes, N64 and so on). The only reason I got away with the Mario Party game is because the lady told me that all Xbox and Gamecube games were $5 each before I even started looking.

All the other games and novels were from different Goodwill's. I know the EOJ game isn't playable without a camera but I'll probably use it for it's case if I can't move it. I really need to read these Splinter Cell novels since I now have all 5 of them. This was the last one released(that I know of) and is a companion to the last game, Splinter Cell: Conviction. And then we have this weird ass Nintendo cd. At first I thought it was a bootleg but it's an officially licensed Nintendo cd with artist of the time(early 90's) and the cd booklet features an original multi-page comic story starring Mario, Luigi, the Princess and other characters from their universe. Definitely something that would interest the hardcore Nintendo fans out there.

http://i494.photobucket.com/albums/rr306/THE-1-2-P/GEDC1094.jpg

The Orange Box(Pc) $4
Half-Life: GOTY edition(Pc) $3
F.E.A.R. 3(360) $12.50
Cooking Mama 2(Ds) $3
Turbo Tax 2007 $3
Quicken 2003 $1
Mario Golf 64 manual(N64) 50 cents

I keep telling myself I won't pick up any more Pc games unless they are rare and yet I still grab what I feel are interesting finds. The two Valve games are not rare by any stretch of the imagination but between them you have every Half-Life and Team Fortress game released to date, not counting expansions. It's too bad the original Half-Life never got released for the 360.

This was the cheapest I found F.E.A.R. 3 for so now I have to finish F.E.A.R. 2 so I can play this. I know the online multiplayer lobbies will have been long dead by the time I get there. And I'm hoping that the two Intuit software pieces will allow simply updates to the current versions. I was told from a friend that Turbo Tax does allow you to do that as long as you have a legit copy. I might email their customer service first just to make sure.

Been working mandatory overtime this week, but I found time to swing a craigslist deal.

I got these 6 360 games for $30, basically $5 each:

Call of Duty 2 CIB
Halo 3 CIB
Battlefield 2 CIB
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 CIB
Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter CIB
Call of Duty Modern Warfare (missing instructions, has some artbook, already sourced a replacement manual)

I'm a huge FPS nut, and some of these I already have, so I be sending my dupes to a friend and a 360 I fixed. Excited.

I feel for you, dude. I've done that on several occasions. So many thrifts tape game and jewel cases shut, but the little old ladies in the back room sorting through that day's donations don't really know or care that the correct game might be inside or even if there's anything in the case. I've had that happen with a Movie Trading Company store a couple of times, a chain who's employees should know better. Bought a Japanese import Airforce Delta for the DC from them, set it aside because I couldn't find my DC Gameshark to load it, then a year open it up to find an American Hydro Thunder inside. I bought a Sega CD game (can't remember which one) from a store on the far side of Dallas only to discover there's no disc inside and it's too far to go back, especially for a $5 game. This kind of thing has happened to me probably a dozen times or more. After a while, you just have to roll with the punches (and ask if you can open the cases at the register before paying) and know that it's going to happen occasionally. After all, an AOL CD-ROM is just as much fun to play as that rare PS1 game you thought it was, isn't it?

So wife told me there was a garage sale 2 doors down from us, so i went. I'm determined to post pics regularly, so here you go.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7025/6738334387_94cf78a35e_z.jpg

Fist of Mars was $7.50 on eBay, and VC2 was $17 at Zone-1 in Helena.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7158/6738329723_faea4078a6_z.jpg

This came from eBay. I found the cart in 2008 for $10, and have been looking for the box and maps at a reasonable price. They eluded me until last Saturday, when this listing showed-up for $90 BIN or best-offer. The seller and I made a deal for......$75! I used $26 from my gift card and took the rest out of fifty-something I had in Paypal credit. Tonight, I'm testing the cart and flipping it to get my Paypal credit back. When all is said and done, I basically paid with the gift-card alone. (Not counting fees that'll come-up, but I have room to eat those.)

Now for the manual and I'm all set. :)

Got out to a couple thrifts yesterday. Picked up 2 NES ac adapters for 2.50 each, controller for 2, GBA sp ac for 3, and some ink for 1.50 or so. Is the Casiotone MT-41 worth anything? I know someone on here is into these things, but can't remember who. I thought it seemed pretty cool and more like a real synth than most of the little ones I see. It was $8. Last was the player piano roll: Under Venetian Skies. There was a whole box of these and I just picked one out because it was neat. I'll probably hang it on a big stairway wall or something.

Three things today:

PlayStation Underground Jampack Summer 2K

I bought this because it had Tomba! 2 on it, but it also has a demo of Ore No Ryouri! Absolutely worth it.

Tiger Woods '99 (PS1)- I know this is the one that had an episode of South Park on it, but I cannot get zzdummy.dat to play at all. Anyone have this version? Maybe I have a fixed version...

X-COM: Interceptor- It's by Micro Prose and is set in space. Even though I've never heard of it, it has to be awesome with that behind it.

Ventured over to Oobgarm's part of town today to look around. While I didn't indulge in Roy Rogers while out there, I did find a mom n' pop store that relocated further out. The only thing I managed to find was a cart only copy of DK King of Swing on GBA for $6. I'm rather surprised it was priced so low but I wasn't about to complain. Once I got it home I paired it up with a box and book for the game I've had for forever and now have a complete copy. :D

Thanks, didn't see that one. The MT-40 has one US auction I saw, but I know so little about these I don't know what to make of it for the one I found.

While I was out today I found a copy of Championship Soccer '94 for Sega CD...with no disc in the case. :(

That sucks, I had that happen with a Dreamcast game the other day.

I actually have an extra loose copy of Championship Soccer that needs a case, so if it isn't a whole lot in the store and it's not a big deal, I'd be willing to reimburse you if you'd be willing to pick up that box and ship it to me. PM me if you're interested!!

$2 each for the Pass the Pigs games and the Saturn game, and $7 for the Gameboy. And this was also $2, but I have no clue what it's worth...

It doesn't ring any bells with me, though that doesn't necessarily mean anything. I've seen TLC games in the past, I think they all have that same cover layout, but they were barely games so I passed.

What's that thing in the middle top of your first picture?

Yeah, Pass the Pigs is a silly game that uses pig 'dice'... and you score points based on how they land. It's novel, kinda fun, and sells for $10 with the box, $8 or so without. Nothing special, but 2 for 10 isn't hard math.

Just as a side note, I sold a MINTY CIB Gameboy, that even had the plastic condoms and installation instructions for the batteries. At the time it was the only CIB GameBoy on eBay and sold for $85 plus shipping.

Woah, wait wait- Are CIB Gameboy's actually worth something? I figured they were practically worthless as I see loose GBs being sold for £10 or less usually. I still have mine, boxed, instructions and everything. Not that'd I'd ever sell but it's nice to know it's worth something.

Complete Gameboys are worth something, loose ones usually aren't. For loose ones you can sell them for around $10-$20 depending on condition(they have to be pretty much perfect and fully working) and somebody has to be looking for one. Usually it seems the people who want them are making chiptune music. I don't bother buying loose ones at all, not unless they come with a bunch of games and are cheap. Too many are damaged in some way so I don't want to risk buying them.

I didn't post my Monday finds because hey, no games were in there. But now there's games so screw it.

From Monday:
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/dp-2011-01-23.jpg
Stag Knight (DVD, new)
Caetano e Gil / Tropicália 2
Julee Cruise / The Voice of Love
Steamin' Schneeman & The Screamin' Demons / Hot Dog and Bun
Kenny Endo / Hibiki
Woody Shaw / Imagination
M.C. Hammer / Let's Get It Started

... For $4! $1 for the DVD, 50 cents for each CD! I'm psyched about having found that Julee Cruise CD. In case she sounds familiar, she's sung the theme song to Twin Peaks. So this CD is kinda like Twin Peaks: The Unofficial Sequel to the Soundtrack. :P

From today:
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/dp-2011-01-25-1.jpg
Chip White / Music and Lyrics - $1
Kinky / Kinky - $1
Frank Zappa / London Symphony Orchestra plays Zappa - $2
Alan Silvestri / Forrest Gump Original Score - $1
Vangelis / Portraits - $1
Pyst (brand new, slim box, box is crushed) - $3

Not pictured: Diablo Battle Chest (with Diablo 1, 2 and Lord of Destruction) for $5.

... and this was after spending TWO GODDAMN HOURS waiting to cross over to the US. On foot. I'll spare you guys the details. :P

Fun fact: It appears that the Vangelis CD is from South Africa, and this site (http://vangeliscollector.com/vangelis_portraits.htm) seems to agree with me. How'd this end up in CALIFORNIA?

Another fun fact: Pyst features John Goodman. And he sings a song. Sadly, nobody's uploaded that to Youtube for some reason... but hey, this game can't be as bad as the original Myst.

V/A: Ghost Dog / Way of the Samurai soundtrack
THE LORD AND MASTER, LYRICAL GENIUS Shaquille O'Neal / Respect
Dr. Jimmy McConnell Orchestra / Swinging -n- Grooving
Diablo II case with key (not pictured)
$3 total

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/dp-2011-01-26b-1.jpg
Resident Evil for the Gamecube, mint - $8 (down from $10)
StarCraft - $2
Six comic books - $3 for the lot

She-Hulk vs Green Goblin, two random issues of the Slapstick miniseries, a weird self-mocking issue of Daredevil, and two comics with Master Liefeld on art. Yeah, worth it.

I already have Resident Evil so that one is going to replace my copy. Plus I bought a $3 scratcher and won $12, I bought another one and won a ticket... hope I get more money on my next lottery ticket. :P

I sold few things out of my collection that I never played. Then I used the funds to order a copy of Tales of Hearts: CG Movie Edition from Play-Asia. Sure, I would have preferred to get the Anime version, but it never seems to go on sale.

I also found a disc only copy of Mega Man 8 (PS1) for two bucks at a thrift store. This is my first time playing a MM game, and it doesn't seem too bad so far.

I'm grinning big today :D
I didn't find a crate of sealed SMB's or anything like that. I just added massive amounts to my collection, and made a decent profit as well. The thrifts were meh today:

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n629/ConneticutLeatherCompany/Copyofgkids001.jpg
$6 for the Vsmile pocket. I have a few extra games already, and these get 20-30 with a few games. The board games were basically losers, although how could I pass on them? $5 for the pair. Couple of toys for the little guy for $3, and $4 for the N64 controller. Stealing the joystick to fix a gold one.
But the real find was at the pawn shops today. My (old) fave seems to be a little less easy with the prices then they were. So I was BSn with the employees, and they told me the managment switched stores. And the store the old bud of mine went to is full of overpriced games. Well, used to be overpriced. I couldn't make up my mind what to buy, then I spotted a milk crate full of everything in the next 2 pics but the NES and N64 games:

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n629/ConneticutLeatherCompany/gkids003-13.jpg

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n629/ConneticutLeatherCompany/gkids002-17.jpg
When I went to the milk crate, the employee handed me a small bin to hold games in. I left the bin on the counter with a dozen or so games :)
They came down to .50 each, except the N64 and NES games were $2, since I bought so much. Totaled $58.32. Didn't have a good chunk of em, and some htf guys in there too. Good times!

So jealous, I have a moderate sized Laserdisc collection (about 20 maybe) where I try to pick the cream of the crop, but I just love watching movies on laserdiscs, it looks and sounds right compared to other formats. VHS sucks, DVDs are too compressed, Blu-Ray's like to get rid of film grain... but Laserdiscs were perfect.

So today I found these.

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/dp-2012-01-28.jpg

There's this guy that brings tons and tons of clearance stuff from stores, sometimes he buys stuff from schools, and whatnot. Today he had a ton of Halloween stuff like fake eyelashes, nail polish, and hair dying / painting sprays. I noticed a couple of CDs on his table and asked if he had a few more, and he said he did but they were at his truck. So he went and brought back a medium sized box with seven different Halloween themed CDs.

They were a quarter each. :D

I grabbed the six you see above but left behind one that I really had no interest in, a Fisher-Price CD that taught the alphabet. Anyway! A quickie description of these CDs:

Fright Night: This has two CDs. Disc 1 was apparently licensed from Silva Records (no relation), and they publish original and rearranged soundtracks, usually cult material. This disc has music from Halloween, The Omen, Horror of Dracula (FUCK YES HAMMER MUSIC), Poltergeist, The Twilight Zone, The Thing and Psycho. Disc 2 has... I have no idea, it's probably one of those stupid sound effect CDs.
Halloween Cocktail Party: Cover versions of a bunch of witch and monster songs. Apparently performed by a Janice Hagan.
Haunted Mansion: A bunch of creepy music played on an organ, harpsichord and piano. Stuff like Funeral March of a Marionette (Alfred Hitchcock';s theme) and the like. And two sound effect tracks.
Halloween Party Monster Mix: All original artists. Songs include Monster Mash, Ghostbusters, Werewolves of London, Witch Doctor, The Devil Went Down to Georgia, and for some reason, I Want Candy (yes, the Bow Wow Wow song.) And five sound effect tracks.
Monster Mash: Kiddified cover versions of Ghostbusters, Monster Mash, I Want Candy, Werewolves of London, I'm Your Boogie Man, Thriller, and others.
Fisher-Price Littke People Halloween Sing-Along: Now why did I buy this CD? Again, it has a bunch of kiddified songs, but the one that caught my attention was Ghostbusters. No performers are credited.

Silly stuff, I know. I think I have five or six versions of Ghostbusters on CD now.
