Goodwill Hunter

Haven't had a find worth posting in a good while, but this seemed to merit a photo - Went to my Goodwill after getting back from vacation, and I don't know if this had been accumulating over the past week, or if this was from a collector's rummage, but all of this was there yesterday:

http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/3734/find712.jpg

A huge Sears Telegames pong called "Speedway" that I had never seen before...has onboard sound, runs on 6 "D" cells and has Hockey, Race and Demolition as selectable games...the box is much prettier than the games....$4.99

Colecovision Star Trek...$1.99

2600 Harbor Escape by Panda...$1.99

NES Bible Buffet...$.99

Genesis Master of Monsters (Complete)...$1.99

Left a bunch of common games behind, as well as a bagged Colecovision with the 2600 adapter marked $34.99. Aside from the prices, it reminded me of the good old days...

Back in June I said I'd be posting my giant bestest find ever when I got home... I did not. My new position at work has been sucking up all my time. But now things have calmed down, I have a night off, and so, here you go:

It seems someone just wanted to get rid of this old piece of crappy electronics taking up space:
5453545454555456

...it even had a boxed memory card. Or I could have bought his 20 inch TV for the same price. I think I made the right move.

The Steel Battalion was from a separate rummage, and came with both games for $20.

On another note, I have discovered, oddly enough, that when I only worked part time and had a lot less money coming in, and while paying tuition, I had the urge to spend a lot more and spend a lot more time out hunting for stuff like this. Now, I finally have some real cash coming in and I can afford to be a bit more spend happy, and I am way less interested in rummaging or the thrill of the hunt. I went to only 2 rummages last weekend (as opposed to however many I can hit in 5 hours), and a woman told me they sold a big box of Genesis stuff just a bit earlier. A few years ago I would have been frustrated and resolved to wake up at like 4am to get the best stuff. Now I didn't even care. Anyone else have that happen?

Terrific find! I have no desire to ever collect Neo Geo AES games, but I still hope to one day come across a well priced console w/ a few games.

As to your quandary, I'm in the same boat. I just don't care anymore. Like you, I've got a good day job that pays well, but it leaves me with little free time as well. As a result, I don't feel the urge to go on the hunt too often anymore. Generally, if I want a game bad enough I'll just get it off eBay now.

I'm considering to shift focus toward maintenance of my consoles. Region mods and other goodies might make more sense than further game clutter.

Here are my finds for July so far:

http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/w361/SEGA_Queen/My%20Finds/PKMNFigureSMVHS.jpg

Pokemon Dewott Figure for $3.99 (New) - I needed to make change for a Craigslist transaction later in the day, so I grabbed this.

Sailor Moon Good Queen, Bad Queen VHS for $1.99 (Used) - I grew up watching the dub, so these episodes have some nostalgia for me.

http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/w361/SEGA_Queen/My%20Finds/TalesArtbookDVD.jpg

Tales Series Artbook by Mutsumi Inomata (Used) - This was the Craigslist transaction I had to make change for. I traded two DS games (Kirby Super Star and The World Ends with You), plus I gave the seller $25 cash to even the trade. The obi and dust jacket have some wear, but rest of the book is mint.

Tales of Vesperia: The First Strike DVD/Blu-Ray Combo for $24.97 (New) - I enjoyed watching a fan-sub of this before it was licensed. So I decided to grab the official release.

It's kind of funny. People will pay more for cartridge-only used The World Ends with You, than Square Enix themselves sells the game new.

Try ordering the world ends with you from square. When you add it to your cart you will see its out of stock.

While visiting family I stopped into a TRU in a mall (apparently they exist) and got a Legendary Skylander three pack for $25.

There was a little video game store in the mall that I went to check out. I need a platinum GC controller and an N64 AV cable so I would be okay with a store premium. Unfortunately they only had generics. The guy behind the counter informed me that I was asking for stuff that was almost 30 years old so it would be tough to get the originals. I didn't say anything buy I was just thinking "you have some of the rarest SNES, PS, and even have complete Snatcher. I am sure you have a console not for sale with the stuff I am looking for." Oh well. Big village-wide yardsale coming up this weekend so I will see what I can find.

Wangan Dead Heat was $1 at a hole-in-the-wall thrift. Skyrim was $4.99 at Salvation Army.

Nintendo AV cables? Very rare. They only came with every N64 and GameCube made. :D
(I'm pretty sure my launch SNES had one but I lost it long before I had a TV I could use it with.)

$5 for the NES ac adapter and unopened film
G&W came in the mail yesterday from Club Nintendo
N64 games 2 each at a garage sale.

Have struck out at a lot of sales advertising games lately. Competition is just getting crazy fierce, so I'm better off just going to random sales.

What I do is I hit up CL and just go thru the garage sale listings to see what area there's a concentration of sales at. I don't pay too much attention to what they are advertising for sale b/c I usually don't bother going to those sales anyway. I just go to that area and drive around. That way, I can hit up random sales, and if I don't find anything (or find any random sales in the area) I can at least hit up the ones on CL so I'm assured of finding a sale at least (since driving around eats up too much gas).

FLEA MARKET X2 and Garage sales..

Garage Sales were a Bust nothing but junk..I find it quite sad when you walk up to people who have set up a garage sale, you look excited, they look excited then you have to walk away as everything would they have would be better in the trash..

After the first flea market I didn’t even bother going to the second as my stomach was just to sick after all the DEEP searching and finding nothing..

Metronome $3.00 ..dug it out of a box. (sold one on ebay months back for $20.00)

TIGER MOTOCROSS GAME..Batteries included tested working..$2.00
This was a cool find as I used to collect Tiger handhelds and I do NOT find them anymore..This was On Display on a vintage antique vendors table..(with nothing else game related)
Toy gun $5.00
Odyssey Robot $5.00..this was the first thing I saw today but passed it up....I noticed the word Odyssey ...10 minutes later my wife calls me up that she picked it up for me because of the word Odyssey lol..

DESPERATE: I decided to hit the only darn vendor there that sell bulk retro game stuff,Ohh how I hate going to her,I usually run past her stuff..
She knows who I am and ups the prices on me..
I look through her stuff and haggle the three N64 controllers for $20.00 for three versus her $10 each..

I need the GOLD controller for boxed Gold N64 System I have to list on ebay..Once I clean up or refurbish the Pokemon controllers I’ll put them on ebay too.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/Chris1/2012%20PICTURE%20ALBUM/MYGRCRR289.jpg

PASSED up a big Intellivision lot...around 30-40 common boxed games(used condition) two Intellivision systems, one of those voice modules..misc other parts..
And another Intellivision system in the original box but the box was trashed and taped all up sealed,no way to open it up to see what exactly was inside..I know the guy and he’s NUTS..he’ll sell you non working junk..He saw me,smiled at me with his funny Grin...as he knows darn well that I know his prices are ridiculous and he sells non working stuff..this kind of lot his asking price would be $200 plus with the whole how rare it is story...

I had to drive down around the Waco, TX area today, so I hit a heap of different game stores around Copperas Cove, Killeen, Temple, and Waco (spent an hour in Killeen searching for a game store that turns out went belly up but their website still lists that location) and a few thrift stores here and there along the way. I bought:

Safecracker and Blockade Runner for the Intellivision
Astro Chase for the Atari XE/XL computers
Defender for the Colecovision
Shark Attack, Venture, Mountain King, Solar Storm, Gopher, and Dare Diver for the Atari 2600
Top Gear 2 for the Genesis (it's a pirate, weird label with cheap plastic case and an odd looking version of the Sega logo on back)

I also discovered that there's a Suncoast Video store in the mall in Killeen. I haven't seen one of those in freakin' years. I thought the parent company went belly up some time ago. So I bought a plushie blue Dalek there.

Last week I was down in St. Louis visiting some family and went by the Antique Mall. Got a box of reel to reel tapes, but there really wasn't anything there. There was this guy though:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y206/SPAZ_12/DSC03429Small.jpg
I didn't buy it. $250 actually seems reasonable when it's being sold in that type of place, but still much too expensive for me. Oh well, at least it's not as bad as the guy trying to sell an original pong console without the box or instructions for $150. You'd think that after having it not sell for a year he'd take the hint.

Antique Mall? Those places are ripoffs. Being a coin collector I always laugh at the people who sell low grade common date V nickels (Something that is worth less than $1) for $80+.

Not really finds, but Steam stuff.

I got Ys Origin for PC gifted from a friend, and I just traded a stupid TF2 crate for Batman: Arkham City and Harley Quinn's Revenge. Considering I got that crate for free...

Isn't it amazing what you can trade TF2 crap for?

I asked for a price check and people said the crate was worth seven keys - about ten bucks. But this one guy wanted to trade me Arkham City on its own ($20 at the time) for it... I told him to wait until the price went down.

He got it for $13 or so.

I may be a manipulative bastard, but at least I try to help people I'm scam^^^^^ er, trading with to save some money. >:P

Finally found something interesting, I paid more than I would normally want to pay but I really wanted to replace the promenade C1 I sold a few years ago.

Paid $40, guy didn't want to sell (wanted to wait till his brother showed up) so I threw him a high offer and he took it.

The stuff below isn't a recent find, but it is a find as I had it sitting in the garage waiting to be cleaned.

Magnavox Converter Box, World Band Radio, Korg Metronome, Mattel Brain Baffler, TI-85, TI-83 was bought from one guy. Would have been $32 total but offered $25 and he accepted it. TI calculators have the usual screen issues but it's not bad enough that someone won't buy them. Brain Baffler looked pretty cool and I've never seen one. Probably keeping the radio for myself and those converter boxes are an easy sell on eBay. Wish I had stocked up with the government program several years ago.

The Sega IR7000 does work and it was only a dollar. Pretty nifty device but I already have one in better condition. The router was three and I only bought it because I use the same router right now and I love it. I'm going to use this newly purchased one for an internal network of my older PC's. The Sony Sports Walkman was $3. Bruno was a dollar and I've never seen that movie though I've always wanted to.

I passed on an older Western Digital passport for $20. Probably should have bought it but oh well, it wouldn't have made me much money.

What kind of usual screen issues? If it's the contrast or vertical lines like I'm thinking that's kind of a problem.

On a slightly related note 85s have really taken a dive in value... TI-86 and TI-89 calculators too (/me looks at Videogamerdaryll for not mentioning what model that calculator was). I can't tell if that's an 86, 83+, or an 89 but the first and last have fallen in value since I last checked. I remember when you could get $40 for either of those models, and $60+ for an 89 and now it's not so much the case, even when sold close to school time. Oddly enough the 83+ and 84 have remained pretty uniform in value over the years.

83 and 83+ are still the standard for high schools and colleges. I don't think most schools (maybe except math majors and engineering) require anything more than that.

I think many actually discourage using more advanced calculators.
(I remember in high school, they said using 89 or 92 was prohibited on tests.)

Yes, those issues. One has vertical line on the far side (which is great because you can see 99% of the screen fine) and another has a horizontal line near the top (which is also great because you can see most of the screen). Hell, even the TI-83+ Silver Edition that I babied for years has a bad screen now. Slightly marked down from usual prices, I feel I can sell online or locally next month.

Indeed.

My mom bought me a TI-83+ Silver back in 2003 because it was needed for advanced 8th grade algebra. I used that damn thing throughout high school and college. The most invaluable "aid" I had throughout school. Loved that Notebook app.

I still have and use my Ti 83+ that I got for freshman math. Man, 10+ years and it is still useful.

Today I came across an Odyssey2 console for $8.98, and four boxed games for something like 35¢ each. I also found out from the sales woman that there's a local guy who comes in two or three times a week looking for games at that store, which explains why my favorite thrift doesn't have much in the way of retro gaming stuff anymore. Bummer.

At another thrift in the "ready to be put out" cart, I found the Saturn games, with Shining The Holy Ark being the standout. $3.93 each.

When I was out of state a few weeks ago, I came across an arcade cab that I couldn't get the price on since the proprietor wasn't around. I couldn't fit it in my car even if I had the money for it, but it was still nice to see. I think all I picked up at that flea market was a Tandy Fire Away 1000 electronic handheld.

Nice finds! Especially on the Saturn stuff - I never see any of that up here in Plano....

So is there any more on that Robotron? I bought a Robotron in 1996 and fixed it up but eventually had to sell it due to wife issues and I've been looking for another one for the past couple of years. I'd love to get one again so LMK if you aren't going to follow up on it. :)

Picked up a couple DS games off CL on Sat. morning for $10. I didn't get what I was expecting. Advertised was FFT A2 and Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow. The former was supposed to be CIB, the latter cart only. Well, I got the case/manual for FFT A2, cart only Castlevania Dawn, cart only FF IV and FFIV advance. I'm really not crazy about cart only DS games, so not sure what I'll do.

No real finds today, other than a CD by a band called "Yahoo BBQ" called "Appearing Nightly", released in the year 2000. It's got a very bluesy sound, not bad for what it is.

The cover is horrible though. It's like they took the thumbnail from a Photoshop image, blew it up, and used that instead of the actual thing. :P

Just got back from my once a year all day yardsale trip in upstate New York. Left at 8am with nothing but my cash, a hat, and my Camelbak. Gorgeous 75 degree weather, but a little humid. Didn't call it a day until about 3pm. Damn my legs still hurt, I should exercise more (read, start). Anyways, pictures aren't great but I needed to take them fast so I can sell them as my room is filed with junk. So here it goes:

First stop:

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e3/Porksta/DSC01875.jpg
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e3/Porksta/DSC01876.jpg
SNES, few guides, and the following games:
Chrono Cross (CIB)
Legend of Dragoon (CIB)
Dynamite Headdy
Mario Kart
Illusion of Gaia
Lost Vikings
Yoshi's Island
Yoshi (NES)
All for $25.

Various other stops:
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e3/Porksta/DSC01870.jpg
Cloverfield - $1
Skyrim - $5 (my new paperweight that I discussed elsewhere)
KOTOR 2 - $5 (really beat up but CIB)
Interpol CD - $.50

Another spot:
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e3/Porksta/DSC01871.jpg
Seinfeld DVDs - $10 (no season 3 oddly, 5 and 6 are sealed)

Last stop:
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e3/Porksta/DSC01868.jpg
This guy had boxes of CDs. He had the exact taste as I did and I would have bought more (possibly made an offer on all, easily 100+), but he wanted $3 a CD. So I picked out what I really wanted. Highlights for me are the CD with Kashmir (yeah!) and Ixnay on the Hombre (can never find this in thrifts. Americana? Everywhere).
The CD in the top middle is Mudvayne.
$25 for all of it.

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e3/Porksta/DSC01872.jpg
The guide is unopened and cost me $1.

That ends it for the yard sales.

The game has no manual but got it at a consignment store for $8.

Junk Shop:
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e3/Porksta/DSC01867.jpg
Pokemon Stadium 2 - $6
GBA Games - $5 each
Zelda - $10 (with CD, already sold on Amazon for $30, yay!)

Another junk shop:
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e3/Porksta/DSC01869.jpg
Pisces Zippo with box and everything - $5.25
Boy Sets Fire CD - $1.25

I also bought an N64 with power brick, one controller and expansion pack for $5, but it is still in the car since it came with a wheel and pedals which I will probably give to Goodwill.

I also bought some books and a jersey, but those aren't really relevant nor do I feel like taking photos.

Mario Mania players guide $2
Mario Party(N64)
Mario Party 2(N64)
Mario Party 3(N64)
Gameshark(PS2) $4
Castlevania: Double Pack(GBA) cart and manual $7
Persona 3 FES(PS2) $3.98
Star Wars The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition(360) $10

I found the Mario Book at a yardsale and the Mario Party games were a $30 craigs list find, although I had to talk her down on the price a bit(she originally wanted $50 for all of them). Castlevania was also a craigs list find, Persona 3 was on clearance and I found TFU: USE at a flea market. I probably could have offered him less since the guy ahead of me was haggling for something else but $10 is a pretty good price for that one. The Gameshark was found at Goodwill and after all that talk about Gamesharks we were having a couple pages ago I'm wondering if this one is worth anything.

http://i494.photobucket.com/albums/rr306/THE-1-2-P/GEDC1667.jpg

Uncharted 3 Collectors Edition(PS3) $30
Clarissa Explains It All season one dvd $1.91
Modern Warfare 3(360) $40
Nintendo N64 messenger bag $5

I only planned on getting MW3 at Best Buy because I had sold mine about a month ago and then a couple weeks later all the content packs went on sale. So I needed to buy another one to play all those new maps I just bought. However, one of the media reps there told me he saved two Uncharted 3 collectors editions in their secret room(which is really just a sliding door they use for site to store orders) after they got marked down and he only bought one of them. After I told him I didn't have Uncharted 3 yet he told me I could have this one so I ended up spending a little more than I planned to. The Clarissa dvd and N64 bag were both found at thrifts.

Motion Gravure: Megumi(PS2) $21
Virtual View: RCT(PS2) $18
Virtual View: Megumi(PS2) $21
Private Idol Vol. 8(SAT) $21
Private Idol Race Queen F(SAT) $12
Private Idol Special 100(SAT) $8

I got all of these online and like to refer to them as my family friendly finds. Because, you know, I'm sure they have families too. The funniest thing is always when I tell my friends I beat one of these games and they give me that look like "I bet you did beat it". As you can probably imagine they are more video than actual game but you get a very small level of interaction.

At Target today:

R.U.S.E. (PS3) - $4.96 in the clearance area

This is one of those weird "Online Item" clearance tags which I don't understand that well. I'm guessing they sell older stuff online than what they carry in the stores, so they price it very low to sell?

Anyway, this looks like it's going to be a fun RTS - anyone else play this one?

Those are from orders that originally sold online but then got returned to a local store. And because the store doesn't always have that item in stock(even at the sku level) they make an "online item" tag and price it to sell, usually very cheap.

Depeche Mode / Construction Time Again
Shadoan Soundtrack
New Order / Power, Corruption & Lies tape (with a bonus)
$2.50 total.

So apparently I found a game soundtrack for "Kingdoms II: Shadoan", some adventure / FMV game released for PCs. I never knew there was a soundtrack made, and so I bought it. I still haven't opened it. I dunno if it's worth selling or keeping...

And that New Order tape? I don't have a tape player, but it had a concert ticket stuck in there and I bought it just so it wouldn't get trashed later in the week. I like their music, and it's a nice bit of memorabilia. I'd like to know who this belonged to, though...

Up and down day for me.

Went out to one of my usual thrift stores, haven't been there in a while. They've hired a new manager or something because prices have went way up.

Temujin PC - $1.50 (been looking for this so I was happy)
Miracle Space Race PS1 - $1
Syphon Filter 2 GH - $2
The Beast DVD - $1 (love this movie)
Two John Wayne DVD's - $1 each (easy sells around here or possible Christmas gifts)
Hitman: Blood Money (PS2) w/ Bonus Kane & Lynch disc - $5

I really hated spending $5 for a PS2 game at a thrift store but it is minty and I didn't have this version. Plus, it seems to go for this and a little bit more on eBay so I can't complain too much. I had to pass up a good 25-30 PS2/Xbox games because the place wanted $4-5 apiece. Back in the day I could have bought these for $1-2 apiece. :(

No great titles but shelf fillers and flea market fodder.

Believe it or not, I got my best deals at the local Pawn Shop which I also haven't visited in a while.

Uncharted 3 - $10
Roland U20 electronic keyboard - $50

Lady wanted $60 for the keyboard but it has a minor button that's been pushed in. Easily repairable but at that price, I had to get it. I don't even think I'll bother to fix the button, I'm thinking I'll get $200ish if I decide to sell it. Might put it in my studio instead, just depends on how I like the sounds and features.

She also had a pair of Rokit speakers which I'll probably go back soon if the price is right. Best thing about living in small town Georgia is people want tools and guns, not keyboards and video games. Deals can be had if you know what to buy.

Mega Man Legends for $25.00 in credit (Complete)

I also found a complete copy of Magic Pengel: The Quest for Color for $5.99 at Value Village.

I took a quick look at MML2 while I was there, and I think it was mint, or at least near mint. I would've liked to get it too, but I just don't have that kind of money right now.

BIG FLEA MARKET

A Total waste of time..

Besides my usual searches I was looking for a Dolly to replace the one under my Soda Machine...

The last vendor I hit,who was complaining about the lack of sales I picked up this dolly for $10.00 from.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/Chris1/2012%20PICTURE%20ALBUM/7212012210.jpg
..(saved me a trip to Harbor Freight to get one for $12.00

The only vendor that had games was Pricing Higher then Gamestop,She Had Ridiculous prices on used junk....I stood at her table listening to her prices and watching people walk away..She’s got the place in her pocket, she’s the only mass used game seller there..she’s a real POS,she won’t give anyone a break on anything..

If you know me I love small motorcycles..most of the time my friends who go to the flea markets I go to call me when they see a small motorcycle.
Well today no one called me UGH!! so I was glad to had went myself and saw this..

$350.00
I starter off on a Z50 and I’ve never seen one of these at a flea market....this bike ran and the motor was worth the asking price but for $350.00 I can get many bikes for the same price, this bike was missing parts and had no back brakes..It needed at least another $100.00 to make it complete..

So I hit a smaller flea market(much much better).met up with a friend to swap some items...we searched together but I didn’t do any buying..he picked up several games and system parts for 25 cent each..now that’s great flea market prices

My friend gave me an Xbox 360 60G HD in package to sell.

Went to a yard sale advertising NES & SNES games, but when I got there I was told by the woman running the sale that they belonged to her sister, and the sister refused to sell them. A chick who refuses to part with retro games, I shoulda asked if she was single :)

Then I checked out the flea market and came across a seller with a dirty brick Gameboy and a copy of Blaster Master Boy (!), but wanted $20 for the lot, had no batteries to test the unit, and refused to split the lot ("That would be like selling a gun without bullets!" was his reply, which is a stupid analogy, because I sold guns for three years and we never bundled bullets with guns) so I had to walk away from that one. I woulda loved to add the game to my collection, but I wasn't about to risk picking up yet another Gameboy with bit rot in the screen.

Wasn't a total loss... stopped at a K-Mart that's closing down and picked up Kirby: Mass Attack for $20.

it retailed at $220 in 2008 from square enix store and sold out pretty quickly.

Got very excited today b/c I found a "Sony PSP" at Goodwill for only $40, in the box. From the quick glance I gave it, it looked like an import system, and it was pink which would make it limited edition of some sort. I was in a hurry tho and had no time to test it out or look at it too closely even. Stupid stupid me, it turned out to be a fake Chinese MP3/ROM player. XD Oh well, I'll be returning it.

But I did get a nice find today at Half Price Books. Typically everything in there is over-priced, even recent releases are not "half price," it's all a big lie. But sometimes I stumble on some good stuff (like sealed Halo Combat Evolved, stuff like that). Today I found the official guide to Skullmonkeys for only $6. Seems to be fairly rare and going for around $25+ so not bad.
