1. Castle of Illusion (Genesis)
2. Super Mario Bros. 2 (SNES - All Stars version)
3. Streets of Rage 2 (Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection)
Streets of Rage 2 is propably my favorite beat'em up of all time. I played it A LOT back in the day. It was the game that cemented my preference for strong/heavy characters; it's still thoroughly enjoyable to perform his "backbreaker" move and watch the enemy's lifebar depleting like that. Played with a friends, which is always cooler than beating the game alone. Played on hard mode; eventually we'll tackle hardest.
4. Altered Beast (Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection)
I only got to play this game in more recent years; didn't have any contact with it when it came out with the Genny. Maybe for this reason, it never caught my attention visually; I did find it enjoyable, although a little frustrating....UNTIL this friend of mine (the ps3 owner who beat it with me) taught me the continue trick. It gets a little on the easy side after you use the trick, but much more fun. Again, a 2-player game is always better.

10. Project Zero: Crimson Butterfly - Director's Cut (Xbox)
I really enjoyed the first Project Zero game(AKA Fatal Frame), and finally got around to playing the sequel. And I must say I think it's even better than the first! Ended up with the worst of the three endings though(plus I took the time to check out the semi ending near the end), and I simply checked out the other endings on YouTube. Great game for survival horror fans, without a doubt! Looking forward to playing the next game in the series!

I just beat Max Payne 3 a few hours ago. The last level wasn't really neccesary considering you had the bad guys cornered the level before. Overall I liked it but there were too many times where the game randomly made me get out of cover. The story wasn't as good as the first two games either. I haven't touched the multiplayer yet so I suppose thats what I'll be doing over the next few days.

9. Jak 3 HD - [PS3] - 4/4/2013
I remember now why this game has so many complaints and most of them different than Jak II. The random difficulty spikes seen in Jak II were taken into account for Jak 3, so the game is much easier. As odd as it is to type this, it's almost too easy and ends up showing off how short the main game is. It has has more driving missions with vastly worse controls than the previous game, not sure how they pulled that off. But it's still a good game and worth playing, if for no other reason to close out the series (I personally don't count Jak X Combat Racing and no one counts Lost Frontier).
Finishing off Jak 3 also finishes off...
10. Jak and Daxter Collection - [PS3] - 4/4/2013
Another great collection that shows off some of the best of the PS2 era. Goes great with the Ratchet & Clank Collection and the Sly Cooper Collection. Of the three, this one is the weakest, simply because Sly and R&C just did so much more and were generally less of a pain in the ass to play. Still, worth the money for new players and old fans.

Without spoiling anything, I was very shocked at how episode 4 ended and I was very interested in seeing how it was going to play out in episode 5. Microsoft made a great decision making episode 1 free back in December(and during subsequent sales) so that people could experience this and decide rather they liked it or not. I just happen to love it so far and will be playing the remaining 3 episodes over the next couple days. I'm also excited for season 2 thats suppose to be coming out sometime later this year.

This was a fun game! Super simple 2d platform style fun.
Unqiue childish style artwork and sound and everything!.
You play as Maxwell a kid who basically pissed off a old man that was looking for help and max played a prank on him by using his Magical Note book. The old man puts a curse on your sister who starts to turn to stone. You must go around and help everyone you come across out to collect fragments of a star known as "Starites" or do challenges to collect whole stars.
You are armed with a magical note book that basically can create anything your hearts desire (within PG rated level of course) and also can change attributes to different things by using adjectives (I know going back to english class in school...)
The levels are small fun and the challenges are at times quite funny and all fun and this game is easily a game all age groups can play and have fun with!.
I highly recomend it 5/5

Oh, dear, where to start. I think I can say I enjoyed the experience, all things considered and there are a lot of things to consider. Static backgrounds, annoying voice acting, remarkably repetitive gameplay (even for an RPG), a sort of scatter brained story, lack of actual OST (and what music there is tends to be inappropriate to any given situation), enemies that just don't come off as threatening and a difficulty curve that's a tad unreasonable at times. Oh, and let's not forget the puns. This is a parody of sorts so puns are going to happen, but they happen way to often and are presented in amazingly annoying ways. Sort of painful ways.
All that said.....if it can be found on the cheap, I'd recommened at least looking at it once. It's bad, but there are worse games out there.

Honestly, 2013 has been a very NES heavy year for me. Usually I try to spread out my year with NES, SNES, Genesis, 2600, 3DO, Jaguar, PS1 and N64, but so far it's beet almost 100% NES this year and nothing else. So far this year I've beaten Adventure Island, TMNT II: The Arcade Game, N.A.R.C, SMB3, 8 Eyes, and Castlevania II and it's been one hell of a ride with more games to come. I've spent considerable time with Adventure Island and Castlevania II this year, literally spending a month's time at the very least with both enjoying Adventure Island for the first time with boy-like passion and reliving some great memories with Castlevania II, it's been a great ride this year and I'm looking forward to much more to come.

The Walking Dead is probably one of my favorite download games of all time. It's an interesting spin on the point and click adventure games. But what makes it so worthwhile is the storyline and that reason alone is probably why it garnered so many GOTY awards last year. The ending is absolutely heartbreaking and this would have made one hell of a movie. But the movie wouldn't have been as interpersonal because of all the life and death decisions you get to make. I can't wait for season 2.

12. Fahrenheit (PS2) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Also known as "Indigo Prophecy," this title is a gem! I played this on the PC back when it came out, and I still think it's a fantastic game! Starts off as a supernatural thriller, but then gradually becomes a bit more modern fantasy and conspiracy themed, with The Matrix styled action sequences that kicks ass! Great game for people who love games with good stories!

I can add Contra and Monster In My Pocket to my most recent NES victories. I never owned Contra as a kid, but I picked it up a few years ago and only today did I decide to give it a go at single-player (I like to play two-player with my lifelong best friend when I can). I was able to beat it without the 30 lives code. Then I gave Super C a try and even with the 10 lives code, I was unable to beat it....but I was close.
Monster In My Pocket always seemed to give me trouble as a kid, but I was able to complete it quite easily a couple of months ago. I even got fooled by the false credits reveal at the end, but luckily I glanced back at the TV and beat the game for real.

Really enjoyed each and every time. Amazing how vastly superior a 20 year old Super Metroid is compared to the fairly new Metroid Other M.

Ninja Gaiden 3(NG Trilogy)(SNES)
NG3 was the only one of the originals I had yet to finish, so I started on this one a week or two ago. I know that NG3 on the Trilogy is "easier" since it has unlimited continues/passwords. I had got to level 7 last time I played and picked up there today. Eventually I made it to the end boss' final form, just couldn't quite pull it off. Next time around, I breezed through the level and finished off the game. I'm confident I could finish the NES version(unfortunately I've put off buying the NES NG's since I've had NG Trilogy so long), and may attempt it one day. It's just crazy how something that seems so impossible becomes relatively simple with enough time and repitition.
I enjoyed the heck out of the game, and no, I'm not going to let any changes made from the NES original detract from the fun of playing it on Trilogy. I like enjoyed the story, something that the old school NG's did so much better than most games of it's day. Graphics were good, and it always feels great to finish a challenging game.

Fun game, too bad I don't have anyone to play it with me and get the full enjoyment though. Still had a fun time playing through the story mode. I was impressed by the graphics in the game, particularly the characters. They still look clean and mostly smooth all these years later. The gameplay was nice and simple too, but you can see that there is some depth to the game if you put in the time. The music was atrocious though.

Been awhile so I apologize. Been busy with moving and all that jazz.
This game also was longer then I thought it was.
Lets see pretty straight forward batman game done in legos. with 3 stories revolving around riddler in one, and penguin in the other and joker in the last one. And just like all stories theres 2 sides to them and you actually get to enjoy 2 different takes on the same story 1 as the good guys and 1 as the bad guys.
Sounds great video great music is great jam packed full of characters and stuff. Some of which you won't find in the arkham games.
The games design visually and in some areas audio wise seem to take after the tim burton films which seemed odd to me. But what the hell. I actually liked those movies.
Fun and filled with laughs. I only had 2 complaints with the whole game. 1 of which I think is because of it being the pc version and I was playing with keyboard (no mouse just keyboard). The controls were clunky as hell and some times you'd try to jump and go and character didn't even wanna do that.. Would just walk off the edge. Really retarded. and the fixed camera (which at times was in the worst place ever) didn't help much either.
Another problem I had which is a minor problem but a problem none the less. The game sometimes leaves ya hanging on where to go or what to do. Sometimes in order to move you gotta do things that don't make any sense. For instance you play the jokers story from his point of view.. Theres a section where its joker and scarecrow. Your in a room and you gotta go through a door. To open the door you have to talk to a guy thats hiding inside a riddler booth.... Now this means that only the riddler is suppose to talk to these guys.... But for some weird ass reason here scarecrow can talk to them............ WHY?!?!?... How the hell was I suppose to know that. Whatever I guess.
I am giving this game a 4/5

Yay, I finally beat another game after a long stretch of nothing. I hope I can pick up the pace in the latter half of the year otherwise my total for the year is going to be pitiful. Anyway, it's really nice to have an Ys game under my belt, and of course I wanted to start with the very first. It took me just over 8 hours, which seems to be a couple hours longer than most, but I already know how poky I am with games, always trying to squeeze everything out of them. I'm sure a good chunk of time was wasted talking to all the townsfolk throughout the game, looking for new dialogue.

What a fun little game this was. The SoR games on Genesis are definitely classics, so I was pretty curious about how this game would turn out. I think the devs did a nice job bringing SoR to the Game Gear. I'm still humming the music a few hours later!

I remember not caring for it back when it was new. Actually sitting down with the intent of playing it all the way through and beating it, I can tell that it's never going to be on my list of favorite Final Fantasy games. That said, it's not as bad as I remember it. In fact, I like the draw system and the way weapons are upgraded comes off as initially cumbersome but pans out fairly quickly. It's really the story that gets to me and it's not an ignorable facet of the game either.

I had rented and enjoyed this back when it was first released and reacquired it a few years back. I played around with it a little and set it aside. Recently I bought Batman Returns for the Lynx and it left such a sour taste in my mouth that I felt compelled to go back and play my SNES version. I don't believe I had beaten it back in the 90s, so I wanted to try and finish it this time. Well, second time was the charm. I got to the last level first try, then was able to finish it with a continue left over the second time. It's a solid and fun game with some nice graphics. I always loved the visuals of the movie and it's cool to see them in 16 bit glory. Still, I can't help but compare every beat-em-up to Final Fight, Streets of Rage, and TMNT IV. But it's still a fun game nonetheless.

14. Final Fantasy XII (PS2)
So, I finally got around to playing through this game. Certainly not a bad game, but I can't say it lives up to other games in the series. The story is a bit too straight forward, with not many twists, and the few twists near the end seemed more like an afterthought rather than something planned. At the end of the game I felt like I had played through the first half of a standard FF game - not because of gameplay time, but because of how the story is built up. There were also some really strange gameplay design elements that could've been done better, mainly to do with rare items, statistical character development, and side quests. That said, the game did keep my interest throughout the whole thing, and several things were done right as well. I will probably play through the sequel, Revenant Wings for the Nintendo DS, at some point.

And with that, I can count Legacy of Ys as being beaten as well. Both games combined, it was right about 25 hours of enjoyment. Not bad at all for a game that only cost me 10 bucks, with a great soundtrack CD to boot that I'll definitely be putting on my iPod.

A fun, but short game. I would also say it helps to be a fan of Macross/Robotech, but I think the game is solid enough to stand on it's own. You have some nice options with your weapon loadout and can transform you mech on the fly, though for the most part I found it was kind of unnecessary. I do wish the levels were a bit longer, as it seems that some of the between level movie clips are as long as the levels themselves. The graphics were pretty nice and I really enjoyed the music. I have a feeling that I'll probably go back and play this game from time to time.

Super R-Type(SNES)
Oh vey this game! Super R-Type was a rental for me back when it first came out. I always enjoyed the game, but was crushed under it's brutal difficulty. Lately I've been on a bit of a kick for playing shmups and it occurred to me that Super R-Type has unlimited continues. Given the fact that I had never finished it and it has unlimited continues, I felt I had to give it a go some 20 years later.
First of all, R-Type games are just plain fun to me. I love the weapons, power-ups, the music, and the look of the games. S R-Type was my first in the series and I always loved how the game reminded me of Metroid as a shmup. I guess that is because they both were obviously influenced by the Alien film(s).
It's definitely a hard game. I spent a shameless amount of time completing this yesterday and this morning(on normal). The slowdown in the game is a blessing and a curse. There is no telling how many times I died because the game suddenly sped up when a few enemies would leave the screen and cause me to go zipping into a wall or enemy. But it also has it's benefits for sure. There were quite a few times where I adjusted my strategy to flood the screen with objects, whether it be my own fire or allowing enemies to go untouched, just to keep things nice and slow. Still, it was one heck of a challenge for me

I can't recall all that I've finished thus far in 2013, though a friend and I did complete No More Heroes earlier this year, and I randomly sat down to play Dragon Spirit on NES a few weeks ago, and beat it without using continues. It was kind of weird, because I hadn't played it in months @_@
I've been working more on my PS3 lately, so I've completed all of the God of War games except III, and also finished inFAMOUS earlier this year. I'm considering making a run at Phantasy Star II. I never had the patience as a kid to slog through the dungeons and catacombs, but I think I might just be up to the task. Also thinking about picking up FF7 again and maybe, finally finishing it.

I finally got some gaming going as I re-collect some cheap cart only games so my girlfriend can play them on my work nights and she needs something to do. I'm sharing the wealth.
Here's what I beat so far, playing most of these on PSP Go with an emulator and a few on the powerpak on Sunday mornings when I'm not quite awake enough to be social yet. Nothing I haven't beaten before, and all for NES:
1. Dragon Warrior
2. Super Mario Bros.
3. Mickey Mousecapade
4. Super Mario Bros. 2 (Japan FDS)
5. The Legend of Zelda

8. Chip N' Dale Rescue Rangers
9. Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
10. Yo! Noid
11. Faxanadu

Just finished my sixth Zelda game and my first released past Ocarina of Time (therefore the other five are the original five; not counting the dumb CD-i games), and I'm inching closer to beating all of the 2D Zelda games. I'd rank most, if not all, of the other ones I've beaten over Minish Cap, but it wasn't a bad game at all. I've always sort of pooh-poohed Nintendo farming out their franchises to other developers, but I have to admit, Capcom made a good game with this one.

I've been wanting to play this since it was first released, but I could never seem to get a copy of it. Finally, due to the magic of the 3DS Virtual Console, I finally have a copy. I'm a bit spoiled by the Picross DS interface, but this wasn't difficult to get used to, it's the same old picross. Delightful puzzles, cute images and a reasonably decent selection of tunes to select from. Highly recommend.

Fun, large number of power/buddy combinations. Controlls felt a bit sluggish.

1. Clash of the Titans (PS3) 01/15/13 (Yeah, I don't know why I bothered either.)
2. Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (Xbox) 02/21/13 (Meh.)
3. Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 (PS3) 03/30/13 (It was OK.)
4. 007 Legends (PS3) 03/31/13 (Nothing special.)
5. Haze (PS3) 04/05/13 (Just average FPS, not as bad as the reviews.)
6. The Outfit (360) 04/08/13 (Meh. Aggravating shitty levels with varying difficulty that went from bad to ridiculous.)
7. Little Big Planet 2 - Story Mode (PS3) 04/23/13
8. Timeshift (PS3) 05/06/13 (It had it's moments.)
9. Brutal Legend (PS3) 05/10/13 (Um...yeah.)
10. God Of War (PS2) 05/12/13 (Some ridiculous/shitty level design. Looks great for a PS2 game.)
11. BlackSite: Area 51 (PS3) 05/14/13 (It was OK for a cheap game.)
12. Dragon Age II (PS3) 06/07/13 (A great game well worth the $5 I paid for it.)
13. Rage - Anarchy Edition (PS3) 06/19/13 (It was OK.)
14. Neo Contra (PS2) 06/23/13 (Pretty short.)
15. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (PS2) 06/30/13 (It was fun until the end, horrendous fucking camera at times.)
16. Star Wars Battlefront (PS2) 07/07/13 (Just the single player historical campaigns. It was OK.)

16. Assassin's Creed (PS3)
Great game, although it is quite repetitive. There are also some annoying elements, like the lack of variation in lines said by various NPCs, or not being able to swim. The game feels more like a prologue than a full game due to its rather straight forward and predictable story. But if you avoid everything optional, then you won't be bothered that much by the annoying elements, and the game will be more enjoyable.
