Here are my hopes for the Switch:
1. Have a decent battery life for when it's portable.
2. 4th gen. Pokemon remakes.
3. Some games for Nintendo's neglected franchises.
4. Good third party support.
5. Don't be arrogant like they were with the Wii U.
That's pretty much it.

I'm getting a kick out of Nintendo's arrogance and stupidity. Going for that casual audience(senior citizens) ain't gonna work this time. Why are they so hung up on motion controls? It was a fad, get it the fuck outta here.
Hope this shit fails hard so they can have 2 slices of humble pie.

The Wii was purely motion controls (except with a Classic Controller and using it sideways), while on the Switch it is more secondary. I also like the motion controls on certain games. Resident Evil 4 was absolutely amazing with those controls, as was Zelda.

They're advertising the thing like a Wii2 with that god-awful commercial. Who cares that it's a hybrid? Its been done before and failed. All they did was combine a Wii and WiiU. Why advertise the thing at all when they're not even competent enough to put a product on the shelf?

A lot of people care that it's a hybrid. Now, I don't care, as handheld gaming was never my thing, but many kids will be interested in the mobility. I agree that it is sorta a Wii and Wii U combined, but I don't see that as necessarily a bad thing, plus it has many new features as well. We shall see. It will be on the shelves this week, and probably sold out immediately.
We obviously don't see eye to eye, but one thing is certain. It will far exceed the Wii U in sales.

The hybrid has been done before. If people wanted huge open-world games on a handheld then the psp and vita would've been smash successes. Mobile games rule the market now, handheld consoles are the way of the dinosaur. Nobody wants to carry around 2 devices. I've never seen anybody playing any handheld system outside, anywhere. It's just toilet gaming, or when the tv is being used.
It's obviously going to sell out because Nintendo fails to put boxes on shelves. Fake shortages is so played out, people ain't falling for that garbage anymore. Just because you supply retailers with 4 or 5 machines that sellout doesn't make it a success. But I'm sure that's how the nintendarmy will spin it.
Over $100 for a single controller? Yeah, I'm sure parents will be all over this thing with that greedyass pricing.

Hasn't been done exactly like this before. It's got elements of the past, but is pretty unique.
"Fake shortages" didn't happen this launch, as my Best Buy got 200-300+ in, and sold them all. I know this for a fact, as I was on line for 3 1/2 hours with 100 ahead of me for the midnight launch, and 200 behind me. We all went home with a Switch. They are sold out now, but there's only so much factories can produce at launch. Nintendo certain had a good launch. We shall see how fast they produce more.
You've never seen anyone with a Game Boy outside (not sure of your age, but if you are 35+, I find it hard to fathom)? It was as common as dirt at the time. Even if you are 20, you've never seen anyone with a PSP or DS on the bus? I seen it all the time on the express bus.
I will certainlly agree we don't see it much now at all. However, you didn't say "now," you said "never."

^The original psp was able to connect to a tv. The Vita has pstv. My gpd xd hooks to a tv, except I have a wealth of games at my disposal. It's nothing special.
You counted every single person at Best Buy? Why did you wait outside for 3 hours if there's no shorts?
Nope, never seen anyone carrying playing handhelds outside. And I'm 38 today. Phones and tablets, dude. Nobody wants to carry another tablet around.
Looks like those hideous controllers (that were made for hands the size of a 3 year old) have a major defect. And Nintendo is blaming everything else but their own product. And where is the dpad?
Be excited for that Zelda game, which is just a WiiU port. There'll be alot of switches collecting dust in the coming months when people are done jizzing all over that game.

My twitter TL is filled with friends playing TLoZ BotW on Switch, some of them asked a day off at work to play Zelda all the weekend. Great reactions so far, everyone is in love with the game.
You can buy a Switch in stores in Mexico, the price is $9,999 mexican pesos and the games cost $1,599 mexican pesos. The WiiU version is scarce but you can eventually find one without too much trouble and is prices at $1,399 mexican pesos.
I perceive a successful launch in my country.

I obviously didn't count every single person, when I said there were 100 ahead of me and 200 behind, I obviously meant about. There could have been only 80 ahead of me, but at the very least 70. Behind me at the least 150. So even if I'm way off, you still had about 225 people total who got their Switch. That's a good amount of systems for one store. I know they didn't have any in the next morning, because I was curious.
Why did I wait on line? Because I'm not a mind reader. I had no inside knowledge that Best Buy had gotten a lot in. Plus hysteria posts like your saying Nintendo would have "fake shortages" probably added to it. I'm also a "take no chances" kind of guy. Why risk not getting one? It also was necessary. If I had gotten on line at 10 instead of 9, I would have gotten one, but would not have been at the register at 12:30 (they started letting people in by 12). It would have been after 1, and with work in the AM I was already sacrificing sleep. I also wanted to get the special edition Zelda. Unfortunately I just missed it.
You're just too negative on the Switch. You don't have a single good thing to say about it. The controls are fine when attached. Using them separately is more of a problem. Try them out. I will agree with you that the d-pad should not have been absent. A shame.
The original PSP did not have a TV output. The PSP-2000 did.

^I'm not the only one negative on the switch. It's their own fault. Those controllers are simply ridiculous. Did they create them for elves?
Nintendo acknowledged the defect in their controllers. And their excuses and workarounds are hilarious. The whole launch has become a meme at this point.

What do you mean how? See for yourself. Nintendo got as many units out as promised, and it still sold out. That's what a successful launch is. I'm the furthest thing in the world from disappointed right now. What's there to be disappointed about? Perhaps the lack of games, but so what? I'm busy with Zelda anyway. The only thing that could count as disappointment is that I didn't get the Zelda Master Edition. Gonna have to spend hundreds on eBay.

Still trying to defend your investment? Don't bother posting links to bullshit websites. Coming off of WiiU and 3ds, anything would look like a success. Nintendo could've put a giant green turd on the shelf and their retarded fanbase would've still bought it and sung praise. I suspect it won't be selling out again.
It's a defective product. With so many boneheaded decisions going against it. That's not a sign of success. You paid all that money for one game. A game that's available elsewhere. Cool.
Lack of games, so what? I'm sure other people who invested in it care. I'm sure they're not too happy about overpaying for defective product either. They didn't make the thing specifically for zap.

I don't have to defend it, I'm having fun with Zelda, and that it the honest truth. The Genesis launched with 5 games, sometimes things happen, and the Pro Controller addresses the problems you stated. I also assure you that I'm not a Nintendo fanboy. I didn't get a Wii U for over a year after launch, and have never even owned a DS/3DS. If anything, I plead guilty to being a bit of an Atari fanboy. :D
It's not only their base that's buying it. Selling out everywhere with this many systems in stock is well beyond their fanbase. The link wasn't BS, and calling it the most successful in years wasn't referencing Nintendo systems, but all systems.
You also implied the 3DS was a failure. 65 million units sold makes it #10 all-time.
I have pointed out its flaws and shortcomings. It's far from perfect. It's under-powered, and the controllers are way over-priced. Online services should have been ready from the start. Honest questions: Is there anything you like about it, and do you think it will fail (like the Wii U)? I'm glad to have your opinion in this discussion, even if we haven't agreed on anything yet.

The 3ds launch was a joke. It didn't start selling til the massive price drop.
The Genesis didn't have defective controllers. And they weren't the size of vienna sausages. And the didn't cost an arm and a leg. Let's not compare that awesome system with this nonsense.
No excuse for such an expensive controller to have such problems. Shouldn't have to buy an extra controller just to play a game properly. It should work and function out of the box. Period.
Have you seen their workaround and troubleshooting for the things? It's a joke. Unplug everything and turn all wireless devices off? Yeah, that would be kinda hard if you have a smart tv or phone. Purposefully waiting until after launch to acknowledge their defects. Pretty sure they paid the early reviewers to keep hush about it.
You keep mentioning Zelda. That's it. $400+ to play a non-exclusive game. And when you finish Zelda? Play Zelda again? Wait for the next Nintendo game to come down the pipeline in 6 months?
I like that it's a portable because I like portables. That's the only positive I have. Don't know how people can still support that stubbornass company. They treat their fanbase like shit, nickel and dime them, and never give them what they ask for.

Before the system was available for purchase, it was already available in Japan as their timezone is far ahead. I was watching a live playthrough and in chat someone mentioned that the pro controller which I presume must be sold separately is marked at 8,000 yen. What the fuck!! A CONTROLLER costing more than a game?! Sure enough next day, I go to the store and out of curiosity I go look at the pro controller for Switch to see the US price... $69.99. That is fucking nuts.
Outside of their precious Zelda there is nothing mind-blowing about the Switch launch. They have a lot more lined up for digital downloads -- a bunch of ports of games from PC indie titles -- than actual Switch software. It's disgusting how many are buying in on day 1 and blowing about $400+ for a max of 2 games on the system. Did everyone forget what happened to Wii U? Nice fancy start and then flatlined without a hope of resurrection. Once again, I look at the device and I see it's flexible and has all the potential it needs to have to be very enjoyable, but if nobody wants to develop for it it's just gonna have another early tombstone next to it like Wii U. At least Dreamcast actually had 3rd party support to contribute to a reasonably enjoyable library - and to think that that is still considered a failed console too. :P

So I made that comment before I really saw much of the game, and after watching my brother stream Zelda botw for over 5 hours i feel that yeah, this game has taken alot from Skyrim. Thats more of an observation rather than a criticism, because the game looks like a quality, fun title but it feels much more like Skyrim than a Zelda game. The overworld in Zelda is basically alot of wilderness that is sparsely littered with ancient ruins than lead to underground dungeons. Zelda gives you quests just like in Skyrim; where you can have multiple quests open at once and pursue them as you like. You can also plot points on the map like in Skyrim, and fast travel to locations like in Skyrim.
The whole weapon and item system in botw is alot like Skyrim also... except annoying. Just like in Skyrim, there are weapons and items strewn all over the place, but with Zelda weapons constantly break (annoying). There is also a stamina meter in Zelda, just like in Skyrim which limits your actions. With Zelda you have a limited amount of inventory space so almost every time you open a chest you have to open it twice; the first time informing you that your inventory is full (super annoying).
At one point while playing Zelda, I noticed a guy holding a wooden shield with a deer's head on it. I instantly recognized it, its almost exactly the same as the Falkreath shield from skyrim. Like comon Nintendo, dont copy Skyrim exactly.

There are other simularities, but Ill stop. I know that other 'open-world' games have came before Skyrim, however it just feel that with Zelda botw Nintendo just copied a previous formula that worked. So I think they get props for making a good game but not an original one. Also the graphics look like they belong on the WiiU.
Also the controller does not really function 100%, wheter the problem is the signal or something else.

Looks promising, but knowing Nintendo this will probably still use friend codes, no wi-fi on tablet, weak ass specs barely on par with wii u, re-release all wii u games I already own, no tracking of past purchases with nintendo id meaning i have to buy the same shit all over again, no analogue triggers, mii's everywhere and miiverse censorship, poor battery life, and the list goes on and on. I'll wait after launch this time, last systems i bought i regret
This is what i posted in october, with tanooki getting on his high horse because he knew what the switch was going to be and i was an idiot.
Friend codes? Check
Barely on par with wii u specs? Check
Re-release wii u games? Check
No tracking of past purchases? Check
Poor battery life? Check
No analogue triggers? Check
At least from switch moving forward purchases are tied to account. If you dont use the tablet outside the house, its just a wii u with a hd screen instead of a low res one.

As for the battery life, define poor. I played Zelda for about two hours, and it was on 54%. Not saying that is poor or not, but everyone seems to have a different definition of the word.

I'd take it another level of separation and assert that the design insinuates Farsi/Persian aesthetic (which ties in with what those dudes at the horse stables tend to wear) while the Skyrim shield is Celtic inspired.
Regardless yes the game rips off Skyrim in so many ways it's almost shameless. But damn this is probably the best Zelda ever.

Ironically, Skyrim and Skyward Sword both came out in November 2011. I used to think how the names are so similar and they came out the same time.

I agree that no one is getting paid and the Zelda games are great games, but to get a 95+ every single game that releases, no. When Twilight Princess received one bad review, death threats. When Jeff gave Skyword Sword an 8/10, death threats. When Jim rates Breath of the Wild 7/10. Attacks on him, DDOS from raving Nintendo fanboys. I think the series receives such high scores because A, it's a Nintendo game which is an automatic +2, B it's Zelda, so if it doesn't already score high because it's a Nintendo game, it gets another +1, and C, because journalists are actually scared to score Zelda anything lower than a 9/10 because they're afraid for their lives.
It's just such a huge coincidence that Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, and Breath of the Wild(I have no idea about Skyward Sword,) have one major flaw that's brushed off and completely ignored to the point that they still receive universal praise as perfect games. Wind Waker is a great game, but there's that damn ocean. Twilight Princess has such a large empty world. Then Breath of the Wild. It has literally no progression, weapons break after hitting the enemy twice, and making the game open world removes a lot of what made Zelda and more linear games great in the first place. Zelda traditionally forces you to go through uniquely designed areas, collecting a specific piece of equipment to slowly open up the amount of area you can traverse, but all the while continuously pushing you towards more uniquely designed areas, which is the greatest strength of linear games, devs pushing players what they want to experience and how they want them to experience it, and most times, while being properly balanced.
Open world games being open, pretty much in their nature, make it hard for the devs to actually force the players what they want to experience, and it's very rare that there's something that's open world that can actually achieve the same results as a linear game can and being open generally just offers more content with less substance. There are open world games that give you this experience while still being open world. Infamous 1 and 2 did it very well, retaining the linear feel of pushing you through certain events while also having the freedom of open world. On the other hand, Infamous Second Son and Last Light pretty much failed in this regard, leaving the player with a monotonous back and forth trip of going from point a to b to c and really getting little experience out of it. With Breath of the Wild, the amount of tangible content the game offers. Oooo wow, you can do whatever you want, but the fact of the matter remains, that there's no progression, and that you're going to be experiencing a lot of repetition doing the same or similar puzzles with the abilities you've acquired within hours from starting the game over and over again(120 times over infact.)
Is Breath of the Wild a bad game? No. Just because it has flaws doesn't mean it's a bad game, but it's just that journalists and Nintendo fanboys alike will trash many games for having the same flaws, but overlook them if it's a popular franchise like Zelda or Mario(or anything hyped up actually.) This is something that is extremely common in the Nintendo circle of games where Nintendo games often get preferential treatment simply because they're Nintendo games. I mean I could detail why trash like Pokemon doesn't deserve anywhere near the 80+ that it's given regularly, and don't get me started with the popularity of that POS Pokemon Go, which was identical to the past game the dev developed, but only because it was named Pokemon did it get any sort of recognition. If any publisher can have a total shit fest worth of a game be praised to no end, it's Nintendo(although there's been others, the focus right now is on Nintendo.)

I'm really enjoying Breath of the Wild, and the Switch in general. Nintendo is about innovating, sure, but usually they take something that's been done before, and then just refine it and do it better. So while the whole 'open world' concept has been done to death at this point, there's so much to do in BotW, and there's always something interesting or rewarding around each corner, or over the next hill, that it's potentially more compelling than many titles that came before it. There are certain areas that will be MUCH HARDER to access without beating a handful of shrines to gain certain abilities, but with skill, persistence, and luck, you can see a great deal of the game, and possibly the ending, without that stuff. So in a way, it's perhaps more open than a lot of previous open world games, in that, you can progress through the game a number of ways, not necessarily how the design team has prescribed. And in the next year or so, I'm sure there will be folks who will do just that, and document it. A lot of it is how sublime the experience is, in terms of the design choices, and how well all the various elements work together. I've spent entire evenings playing this game after work, and doing nothing but hunting, cooking, and seeking out precious gems, because I find it fun. I've spent other evenings burning through multiple shrines, and a couple evenings stuck in a single shrine, because the puzzles were more obtuse. I like the fact that you can save at practically any time, and how, with 120 shrines, and tons of side quests, the game is really built to cater to that mobile/portable experience the Switch provides. You can jump in for a few minutes, get through a shrine or side quest, and put the Switch back into sleep mode. Or, like me, you can play on the TV and spend the whole evening doing that kind of thing multiple times over.
I'm an unapologetic Nintendo fanboy, but I've never been a "Zelda guy". I never really played any of the LoZ games growing up, and only just tackled the first game last year. I finally understood the series' appeal, and fell in love with it. I went through Link's Awakening in January, and now I'm playing BotW now. Aside from that, I have a little experience with Ocarina back in 2001 and 2002, but otherwise, I'm not invested in the LoZ series, lore, or all the crazy story stuff. I'm enjoying BotW for what it is - a fantastic adventure game with good combat, fun exploration, interesting and solid mechanics, a story that can unfold organically as you play, and just an overall polished experience. It's been a while since I've played a game that Iv'e become engrossed in as much as BotW.
Be excited for that Zelda game, which is just a WiiU port. There'll be alot of switches collecting dust in the coming months when people are done jizzing all over that game.
Might be time to admit defeat on this one.

Not sure what a "forced loss" means, but yeah, I was just looking at old posts and found it hysterical that the guy was arguing with me because I bought a Switch on day one. He then insisted that it would be forgotten in a matter of months. Flash forward and it's on its way to becoming the best selling system of all-time. ;)

I'm surprised this thread isn't more active considering it's a current console. In any case there's a few recent releases that caught my eye and I figured I'd mention them here.
A remake of the RPG Maker game Ib has been released, and there's a physical copy available. The physical version is only available in a Japanese version, but it's region free and has an English option. I really enjoyed the original freeware version so I wanted to mention it, this updated version does look pretty good.

Also it seems that Ghost Trick is getting rereleased on the Switch in a few months, I have the DS version but thought I'd mention this new Switch release. Again a physical version is available from Japan, region free with an English option.

After re-reading the thread, things must have been a little more lively around here back in the day.
I'm personaly hoping the Switch does not become the best selling console of all time. But I'm willing to acknowledge that there is a hell of a lot more people who prefer mobile gaming than I could have believed. And all the concessions that go along with mobile performance does not bother them one bit. Nintendo must have figured this out because it's mid cycle Switch upgrade was to simply improve the mobile screen and add a version of the Switch that could not be docked.
I would have hoped Nintendo would have fixed the Joy Con drift issue. The Joy Cons costing far more than Sony or Microsoft controllers have a known drifting issue that resulted in a class action lawsuit filed against Nintendo. But Nintendo was able to successfully argue that anyone who uses a Switch has signed a End User License Agreement which disallows lawsuits. Nintendo currently fix's Joy Cons for free (with one major caveat) but who the hell wants to go through that hassle when it is needlessly due to Nintendo's design negligence.
The next thing that surprised me is that Nintendo has officially acknowledged that it's fan base is toxic! Nintendo groomed and fomented this bunch of crazies and could care less what they do to others, but if any of them spew on Nintendo employee's, then they lose access to Nintendo repairs. No fixed Joy Cons for them!
Another thing Nintendo surprised me with the Switch was taking a more lenient policy towards censorship than either Sony or Microsoft. I buy Switch games that I would have preferred to buy for other consoles due to this and instead of earning my gratitude, it just seems to exasperate me. I bought the worst performing version of the game just to avoid censorship. How wonderful!
I buy Limited Edition Switch consoles because I think they are cool and I won't regret it. I buy Nintendo first party games because I'd be crazy not to. And I hate that they never drop in price. I hate that more than anything and will buy used, use store points/credits, do ANYTHING to convince myself I did not give those greedy bastards one more penny than I had to.
I also watch for and collect all the Switch games that have bonus content or DLC on the cart. I know I could download the DLC on other console versions and I would actually prefer to play the game on those consoles for the performance they have over the Switch. But I just like knowing my Switch copy has everything on the cart forever.
I buy what I hope are Switch exclusives mainly from Super Rare games and Play Asia. I get pretty upset when I buy one of these games and see it released on other consoles months or years later. I really hate getting stuck with a Switch version only have to buy it all over again if I want the best version of the game.
That's about all I have to say about the Switch other than I have never actually taken one out of the box. One day, I'm sure. The Switch and it's devotee's sure surprised the heck out of me!

I gotta say I'm impressed by how my Switch Lite handles games. I can't say I've played a game that made me go "wooo....that's ugly". Then again one has to remember not everyone is balls-to-the-wall die hard 4K 60 FPS gamers. As for making a higher spec one, if people are buying it, why create a more powerful version? Then you'd create a situation like a 3DS and a "New" 3DS with more power. How many games would actually be made to NEED the faster Switch version? Answer-not many, just like the 3DS.
As for the JoyCon issue, Nintendo does offer free repairs. That's what warranty is all about, not unlike Microsoft fixing red-ringed Xbox 360s. Nintendo was already offering the free repairs before the lawsuit so they were doing what they should do. What more do they need to do? I don't understand some people's need to slap a lawsuit on a company when said company is working on rectifying the problem.
As for toxicity....I APPLAUD Nintendo for standing by their employees. No one, NO ONE who takes your call in order to help you should be subjected to someone's vile spewing! I get a person can be upset but to take it out on a person who didn't even BUILD your malfunctioning device...that's just wrong. Stuff happens, things break but the poor soul on the other end of the line is trying to help you. Now if they are giving you an attitude off the bat....well..maybe but still, it's best to not stoop to that level.
And....wait...you buy Switch consoles and yet you haven't opened one? Just out of curiosity-have you actually played a Switch on a regular basis (as in, didn't just try a buddy's once) or are your opinions just due to watching things on the sidelines? You make it sound like you collect but not play, unless I'm reading something wrong.

My post wasn't meant to offend you or the 122 million other happy Switch owners. I have a genuine disdain for Nintendo that shows through, but I also proudly own 4,906 complete Nintendo games that go all the way back to the Famicom Disk System. And no, I'm not a game counter type collector. I'm just supplying this information to put my disdain in context.
The Nintendo Switch is 2 generations behind. An undocked Switch and the Switch lite are 3 generations behind. It does not mean that games aren't fun to play on the Switch. I does mean that the people who are working very hard to create wonderful new content are not going to limit themselves to what will run on the Switch. It just gets left behind. If that doesn't bother you, it doesn't bother me either. I don't advocate for a more powerful Switch. There are other consoles that value cutting edge technology. Nintendo obviously does not.
Maybe you used a poor example equating how Microsoft handled the red ring repairs with the way Nintendo is handling the Joy Con drift repairs. You see, Microsoft didn't just repair the bad consoles, they made hardware changes to prevent it from happening again. Nintendo has never made changes to Joy Con controllers despite the Internet full of well meaning solutions to correct the design flaw. Perhaps Nintendo has it's own disdain that shows through too.
You applaud Nintendo's aggressive stance towards toxic behavior directed at Nintendo employee's. I just wish I could read about Nintendo's aggressive stance against those who threaten the lives and livelihoods of those who give Nintendo poor reviews.
Yes, I buy Switch consoles that I haven't opened. Frankly, I have never played a Switch period and my opinions are based on comparison videos, professional reviews and user comments. I have a daughter and son-in-law with kids who own a Switch and Xbox One. The son-in-law is the gamer and once confided to me that Switch games "don't look very good". He loves that Xbox. But I'm sure they bought the Switch for the kids to play with. I wonder how many of the 122 million Switch's sold were just for the kids to play with.
I'm at 495 Switch games. I haven't the space to display them showing the wonderful case art, so I just display them showing the spines. It's solid reddish hue reminds me of a baboons infected butt-hole. So I break up the giant block of red by sprinkling in Limited Edition Switch consoles and controllers. It's pretty effective and I do it with all my collections.
I collect video games for a hobby. I play games too. But I love "researching" games, if that's the right term, most of all. I previously mentioned collecting Switch games that differ from other console versions in that they have bonus content and DLC on the cart. I have quite a collection of them that I'm quite proud of. I'm proud of it because I know the effort that it takes to find them all. You can't just Google that game list. You have to dig it out. That digging out game information never bores me. It's a big part about what I love about games. Game knowledge is interesting to me. And really, I am very glad that you enjoy gaming on the Switch. I'm sure I will too. Someday.

Nah, not offended. I'm just wondering where this disdain comes from. Either by playing the systems, reading/watching stuff about Nintendo or a mix of all the above.
Nintendo pretty much has had the philosophy of "using what's tried and true" (i.e. "old") on some of their consoles since they got into the market. Look at the NES/Famicom-that was pretty much obsolete when it hit American shores. Then look at the Game Boy. They went back to that idea for sure with the Wii and that went pretty well for them, even if many folks just bought it for Wii Sports.
As you said, there are other companies that go for the bleeding edge. Nintendo decided to not be one of them.
That was the most glaring example I could think of at the time of my writing. Granted the two situations are far apart (joy con issue? Use another controller to play. Red Ring? Um....pretend your Xbox 360 is working and imagine the cool games?) and Microsoft's situation was more severe. It did take a bit for the issue to get fixed with a new generation of 360's (though the "Arcade" model, which had the same physical case as the original 360s, seemed to work out all right from what I recall). Nintendo is stating they are "currently working on revisions" and it seems like there are folks that are not having the problems anymore or at least the reports don't seem as frequent.
My guess is that people that own the system are lenient towards it ("hey, it's getting fixed") as opposed to those that take to online and complain. Oh, I did do a little research on class action lawsuits, EULA's and game companies. As far as my (although admitted brief research-I don't have the time like I used to for deeper diving when I was more active on this board). It seems, at least as of 2019, that the major game companies all block class action lawsuits in their EULA's-Microsoft, Sony, Valve and Electronic Arts were the ones mentioned. So Nintendo doing it is just them joining the crowd. I think it is more of a sticking point because of the Joy Con issue and that Nintendo is "teh hotness" in this generation.
You applaud Nintendo's aggressive stance towards toxic behavior directed at Nintendo employee's. I just wish I could read about Nintendo's aggressive stance against those who threaten the lives and livelihoods of those who give Nintendo poor reviews.
Threatening livelihoods, as in going after YouTubers about content or are we talking about actual review sites or magazines like Nintendo Life, Game Informer, Switch, NForce, etc.? Could you expand on that? I know about YouTube videos and folks getting nailed with content strikes. As for lives...is this tying into the "livelihood" comment or are they actually threatening lives? Are they now sending Pinkertons like Wizards of the Coast did to some dude that got an unreleased box of Magic cards? Though the Magic card thing isn't "life threatening", the agents did threaten potential jail time and fines which then again falls back to the "livelihood" term.
It's pretty effective and I do it with all my collections.
So were these consoles purchased brand new from a store or from Nintendo or were they purchased second-hand? How about many of your games? The reason I ask is: for a person who has some pretty strong disdain for Nintendo, if you bought any of these things new, you ARE supporting this beast you seem to dislike. Ultimately people will vote with their dollars and if something rubs them the wrong way, they can stop buying the product and no longer support the company. Purchasing new and then complaining about it makes me think of a person (and I've seen a few of these over the years) that goes to the same restaurant and complains about the food, service, whatever. Then at the end of their completed meal, they get up and say "see you next week".
Again, this is if you purchased new. Used or second hand is another matter-Nintendo isn't profitting from your purchase. I'm just looking for hypocrisy here.
When comparing a Switch next to a modern Xbox, YEAH the Switch is going to look poor in comparison. As for buying the Switch for the kids-well, what's the library like on an Xbox or PS5 that's more family friendly? I honestly don't know as I have neither and am not interested in either. Switch is a solid all around console, so why not? Besides, then Son-in-law doesn't have to give up the 'box when the kids want to play..heh heh.

My disdain for Nintendo isn't rational and does not affect my hobby in the least. I pre-ordered the N64 and just hated that damn thing. Someone on this very board noticed my dislike and suggested that pound for pound the N64 had the best game library of it's generation. Well I looked into it, not believing it for a second, and decided they were right. The games looked like ass as all those early 3D games did, the controller was embarrassing, but the library was pretty awesome. The only console version of Starcraft is on the N64. I now have a terrific N64 game library thanks to that person and my own ability to set aside my bias for my benefit.
In my home the Switch will be docked and the Joy Cons unused, so the drift won't affect me. The Joy Cons will just join the long list of Nintendo controllers I dislike.
I think if you just Google Nintendo reviews threats you'll find plenty of reading material. Nintendo fans can be very biased and that's about as politely as I can say it. I didn't even know there was a Nintendo Life. Thanks for the tip!
You seem to be very happy with the Switch and that's all that should matter for you. I can't understand you're willingness to give up so much, but who am I to question happiness. You must know what else is out there and shrugged. Amazing!
I bought all of my games and consoles new this generation because I knew I would retire soon and there wouldn't be time to let the games become unwanted and undervalued this time. The best time to collect games is when no one wants them and no one is nostalgic for them either. I have worked for the same employer for over 30 years and started collecting video games while working there. They were incredibly generous with overtime and I worked a lot of extra hours for my hobby, but I always felt like it was my employer who was paying for everything. So I never look back on any expense with regret. I don't even care what happens to it when I'm gone. I had fun doing it and that's all that matters.

frankly, i've picked up some pretty ragged joycons for shell swaps and none of them i have come across so far have had any serious drift issues, nothing a re calibration didnt fix.
my recent issue with nintendo was with the switch, mainly the wii u to switch abandonment and then re releasing games on the switch as if they were new. kinda shitty.
Theres also a, not just nintendo made games, but games in general issue with switch games. sure its a "portable system" but some times you find games that are scaled so small they were never thought of as being played in a portable mode, it goes the other way around, some games are made in such a way they are HUGE on a tv. A lot of Dev's cant seem to get it right.
Bloodstained is one thats impossible to play portable, and Animal Crossing it freaking big mode on a TV

Did I say I gamed on Switch only? I said I like my Switch Lite....I didn't say that was "it". I haven't played the last two gens of Playstation or Xbox as the exclusive games didn't really do much for me (and I dislike Playstaton controller design-my thoughts on that topic are probably sprinkled throughout this forum over the years). I have two good PCs with decent graphics cards (a desktop and laptop) and I have played a variety of titles. Probably the latest I've played on there is Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order.
However I'm on the computer for work, doing bills, writing TTRPG stuff, etc. So with all that I see it more as a tool than a toy and frankly, I enjoy being away from the keyboard when I game. In my house of many people, I really don't have a spot for a console per se that *I* can sit at. My Switch Lite gives me the mobility with the games I like. I play more Skyrim on my Switch than on my PC. I just got Witcher 3 for a good deal, and I have that on PC as well.
So COULD I play the latest and greatest that's NOT on Switch. Yes. Do I want to? Most of the time, no. I could get a Steam Deck but I can't justify the price to see if it gives me the fuzzy feels of portable gaming my Switch does.
