I can't remember what my poor parents were shelling out for N64 carts but it went up towards 100 dollars at times (70-90 etc) so far I personally have never passed 60 or so dollars but have considered games selling for 100-200 dollars beyond that is sort of insane.

50 dollars for Knights of the Old Republic 2 when it came out... and maybe 60 for a bond or perfect dark game on n64... And I honestly can count on two hands the amount of times I have ever bought a game as a new release. XBOX right now is a cheap gamers dream... Go to Circuit City and try and find a game over 20 dollars (at a lot of locations). They're trying to get rid of their stock I think... And pawn shops and blockbusters are where I frequent the most for cheap games.

I tend to be cheap with how much I pay for a game, so the most I ever spent would have to be $50. (For newer games, such as PS2, Xbox, Wii, etc.)

I have to admit, I'm one of those guys who missed out the first time and actually paid the $100 US dollar price to import D&D Collection on Saturn.

Was it worth it? Most days I think so.

Karma got me back though, since I picked up an import copy of DC Ikaruga bundled with Batsugun and a saturn Puyo Puyo game for $24 US at a local flea market.

That was Braveheart that won that one... I myself was prepared to go as high as $1707 for it, but I decided to drop the idea, as there was no way I saw myself paying that for a game.

I dunno if I posted these yet, but here goes:

1. Valkyrie Profile Limited Box, complete, PS1 (+ SaGa Frontier Millennium Edition, complete, PS1, and one or two minor things) = $278.

2. Super Turrican NTSC protos (one on NES-TKEPROM-02 board, one just loose EPROMs), NES = $195 (or was it $175?) (to my knowledge, the only two known).

3. Caltron 6-in-1 black back label, cart + Caltron sleeve, NES = $190 (came as part of a deal, alongside #8).

4. Caltron 6-in-1 blue back label, loose, NES = $175 (to my knowledge, the only one known).

5. Radiant Silvergun, complete & mint, Saturn = $150.

6. Donkey Kong 3, non-hangtab box only, NES = $146 (to my knowledge, the only one known).

7. NTF2 test cart, NES + official service technician's training manual = $140.

8. Flintstones: Surprise at Dinosaur Peak, loose, NES = $126 (came as part of a deal, alongside #3).

well I just recently spent 80 on guitar hero 2. 110 on radiant silvergun and a whopping 170 on panzer dragoon saga. Next up is 130 on d&d collection for saturn

damn saturn's fault, cheap system, damn expensive games! (though good ones!)

My highest would have been DAYTONA NETLINK, as I had bid up to $220 for it on eBay (and this was disc and manual only!), but it ended up going for $237. I thought I'd find a copy of it on eBay later, but as of yet that's been the only one on this year.

I usually get most of my big titles in lots with the system (it's cheaper per-title that way), but the most I paid for a single title was probably SHINING FORCE III for $65. I already own it too, but I'll be able to sell it back for double that with a proper listing.

Of course, back when I was a kid, I probably paid close to $100 for some of those early Nintendo 64 games. Jeez!

If we're not counting arcade machines (and converted roughly to dollars for you guys instead of good ol' pounds):

Virtua Fighter 5 (PS3) - $700 - 500 for the PS3, 100 for the game, and another 100 for the arcade stick. I count it all as the game, because VF5 was the only reason I purchased a PS3. It was either a PS3 or splash $15,000 for the arcade cabinet. If I had known that 2 weeks after I got it VF5 would be announced for 360, I wouldn't have bought a PS3 at all.

Steel Batallion japanese import on launch day (xbox) - $440

Sealed Vampire Chronicles For Matching Service (DC) - $200

If we're counting arcade machines, than the most expensive game I ever bought is a perfect condition Virtua Fighter 2.1 Large Screen Megalo cabinet, for the meagre sum of $2000 plus around $1000 to ship it from Sweden. Worth every single penny. It cost more than VF 1, 2.0 standard cab & 3 combined, but it completed my set of VF arcade machines at the time.

c'mon, more people must have bought stuff like guitar hero 3.. i got that for like AU$170. alot of other new 360 and especially ps3 games are coming out for over a hundred bucks (au), thered be a few people forgetting those too i reckon.
i've bought a few gurrent gen (or near current) collectors edition boxes and stuff for between AU$100 and AU$200. the djmax portable prestige package fits in that bracket i think. otherwise if we're talking retro, i bought some n64 ex-kiosk demos, $250usd for 8 (a steal?). i bouy most of my games in lots, so its hard to tell. being in australia makes it unviable to buy single games from other countries, and being in australia makes it unviable to buy anything locally, everyone has no idea and everything is cranked to a premium price. chrono trigger (us) is amazingly at a store near me, but its $150, it might be more even.
i have a complete au shenmue which i think was about a hundred bucks a while back.

$202.50 for Panzer Dragoon Saga

The discs are near mint (one has a tiny barely visible few milimeter in length scratch near the edge of the disc).

I was willing to pay abit more than the other auctions as it had better desc/pics and the sleeves were white instead of the black you see more often.

The back insert is a tiny bit wrinkled but putting it into a hardcover book with a crt on top is fixing that :bday:

Normally I scour for cheap prices and great deals( I am a CAGer afterall) but I really wanted this game. It's such a pita because I require my games to be in excellent condition except for very very few purchases.

i guesse it all depends on how dedicated you are to your collection. I always compare it to other things like collecting coins or anything. When i look at other things they have to value to me but video games do. So i figure if someone would pay hundres for an old peice of metal, then i would do the same for a rare video game. My most expensive must've been 220 euros (about 300 usd) for Rock Band X360.

#1 is Diablo 2 for the PC when it first came out for $55. I think it was worth it for all the hours I spent on it, but I just hope it's not true that Diablo 2 is a MMORPG costing $15 a month like WoW.

#2 goes to Guildwars ($50), which I bought a week after release and haven't spent more than 40hrs on, but I feel I might get back "into" it over winter break.

#3 for the win is House of the Dead 2 for the Dreamcast. It's a odd placement because I spent $13 on it at Gamestop but paid an additional $24 for 2 guns and $4 for 2 rumble packs. It's the only shooter I have for the Dreamcast so I claim it to be a "bundle" of $41.

#4 is Gamecube's very fine Worms 3D for $35 new after it came out. God I love the Worms! games!!

#5 has to be another new Gamecube title: Serious Sam - The Second Encounter! $30 baby!

Everything else is under $20 because I'm cheep and love to save money buying used games that CAN work as good as new.
It's been nearly 3 years since I've posted in here and well, these have been bumped down.
#1/2: $300 on Alpha Mission II and Ghost Pilot combined with shipping, both in shock boxes, complete art, and both great shape. I purchased these last month and are fantastic starts for my MVS shooters.
#3: Diablo 2 still @ $55.
#4/5: Guild Wars is now shared with Supreme Commander @ $50. Bought the expansion (Forged Alliance) a few months after its launch after seeing SupCom drop in price so quickly.

I guess I'm still a tight buyer considering how much time has elapsed and not much debunking of pricey titles. Have found quite a few higher priced games for dirt cheap since though so it kinda evens out a bit, hopefully in my favor.

With games like these they really have to be special and hold their value well. I still haven't made it past 300 but now that I'm into the Neo Geo AES this could change. Most recent purchases of great value:

Judgement Silversword 150 USD
Matrimelee AES 175 USD
Metal Slug 1 conversion 209 USD.
Keio Flying Squadron 150 USD

I've spent like 1500 bucks in the last month on games! argh just totaled it all up. I look at it this way though these games will retain their value and can be sold-maybe at profit. Also great replay on many of them.

1. $220 for CIB Cheetahmen 2, though I sold everything but the cart for $200, so net it was only $20

2. $180 Rock Band bundle for 360, but I also bought three other to resell, so this one ended up only costing $30

3. Diablo, Diablo 2 ~$50 These are the only games I have ever bought at full retail price without any way to make the money back. Diablo 3 will probably be the next game to earn that distinguish.

I'm surprised I've never replied to this!

I'm not sure what my exact highest game is. I don't have anything over $200, but I have a few near that range like:

Progear no Arashi (PCB) ~$200
Chotetsu Brikinger (Neo CD) ~$190
Japan Pro Golf Tour (64DD) ~$195

My Japanese Vectrex games are listed as R9/$500 in the rarity guide (and mine are all NIB except one) - but I didn't pay more than about $100 for any of them. Definitely my highest guide value games, though.

Unless I get lucky as hell I'll be popping the $200 mark to complete my VB collection -- I only need Virtual Bowling, Virtual Lab, and SD Gundam Dimension War, none of which go for below $200 and two of which tend to go for over $500 :( Still, I search for the silly cheap deal.

Believe it or not, the game I've spent the most money on isn't an old game by any means.

I picked up that $150 Dead Space LE. Besides for that, I paid in the lower 100's for both my N64 Bangai-O and Twinkle Tale (both very minty). Oh I remember those days. Once I got older I decided to collect Neo-Geo games. Considering the price now and the fact that I can't stand to pay over $200.00 now for a cart that I wouldn't play (due to wear and tear) I went the MVS route. I have had my Neo-Geo since November, 1990. It was an 18th birthday present for me. Problem is, since it had to be mail-ordered (major US stores didn't carry it until 1991), it arrived a week or two late. Oh well, I didn't complain that my $600 birthday present was slightly belated. I was a poor college student in the early 90s, I certainly wasn't spending $200+ on a game then. Maybe $200 in a year. $200 paid my share of the rent in grad school!

I love games, but they've always been a luxury item for me. When I was young and broke I played cheap PC games and rented console stuff (unless I could find on clearance). I don't know how some of the younger members on this forum do it, frankly.

Carefully arranging finances and obligations to ensure both a comfortable savings account and sizable disposable income.

I paid about one hundred dollars for a mint copy of D&D Collection for the Saturn, but I think that's about the most I've paid for anything. I very nearly bought another Radiant Silvergun to replace a stolen copy, but restrained myself. One day...

Luckily, most of my interests are in the PS1 era and after, and the games I'm interested in that date before that are usually collected cheaply.
