$15 blue psx dev system at a swap meet.
?

To be absolutely correct a blue playstation isn't a dev system its a debug station.
Actual dev kits are cards that fit inside a PC, early ones ISA, later ones PCI with the PA boards coming even later.
Blues are pretty standard Playstations with the security removed, so they can run off CD-R. They blow up well... Ever dev in the UK has blown at least one up (US and UK power supplies aren't compatible).

Emeralds (green in colour obviously) are later Debug Stations with extra hardware checking to check for legal HW access.

Off the top of my head 3 good software finds in wild (car boot sales) are

1) Snatcher Pal MegaCD £1
2) Secret of Mana SNES PAL Complete £4
3) Jurasic Park Sealed MegaCD £2

Hmmm.. my three best "wild" finds have to be:

1. Suikoden, PS1, Mint Condition. My Mums friends 8 year old son had it and said it was "crap with crappy graphics." So I "borrowed" it. He'll never notice.. That may make me sound like a bad person, stealing an 8 year olds game but, he's broken several of my PS2 games in the past.. so now were quits..

2. 108 complete Mega Drive games for £50 at a Car Boot Sale.

3. My Playstation Lightbox Display (same as speedys) £5 at a Car Boot Sale.

The majority of my great finds have all been charity shops and car boot sales. I wish i found boxes of NES games outside my "evicted neighbours house"..

1. Virtual Boy boxed with 3 games (Mario Tennis, Mario Clash and Galactic Pinball)
£5 :D . Got it from a car boot sale here in the UK 3 years ago. It was bought in the US by the sellers son . You should have seen me i was like a giggling loonatic. I tossed him a fiver and ran off with it in search of a pack of duracells!

2. Mario Allstars and Street fighter 2 turbo edition, boxed Snes's complete £8 each

I can't really think of any others that stand out. I 've had some much over the last few years and i've mainly bought and sold stuff to get other things. Like a few weeks ago i traded a SMS and a N64 i had for a fiver for a boxed Neo Geo Pocket Colour in gamestation.
I get my best finds at Car Boot sales here in the UK. Today i bagged a Dreamcast with 2 joypads and Sonic Adventure for £8!

drops quickly in interest from there

#2 huge tails display tied with ps1/screen store display $80 each. thats kind of expensive, but i havent seen anyone else with these items, so theyre pretty cool.

While mine are hardly "spectacular" by any means (I don't get out shopping nearly as much as I'd like to) I've had a few nice finds:

Bebe's Kids (R7) and Robotrek (R4) for SNES, CIB (Robotrek has the item chart) for $5 each.

Team Buddies (R8) for PSX, complete...$12 from Gamestop.

Crusader of Centy (R6) for Genesis, CIB...$8.

The amazing thing is that the three not found at Gamestop were found in game stores that seemed to be priced rather competently. ;)

I dunno....this is a toughy.

I got Intellignt Qube for $5 preplayed at Blockbuster....

I got a CIB Tengen Tetris for $3 at a mom and pop type store...

I just recently found that Genny Toy Story Proto thing....

I found a crapload of CIB NES games for $2 each last year...

Found NES QIX for $2...

I found a VB with all hookups and a JAP copy of vertical force for $1 last month...

My favorite find, although nothing spectacular, is the day I got a completely mint, but loose Atari 6 switch for $2 and a white atari joystick for $2. Not a great find, but I play the crap out of that system, and it looks great.

I don't think I have ever had a REALLY AMAZING find (like the assload of sealed 6 in 1s) but I almost never come home from the thrifts and fleas empty handed, and that makes me happy.

These arent incredibly rare by ANY means, but my priority isnt in finding rarites, although if I see one that I know about, I'll most likely pick it up if it's at a reasonable price. Usually I'll buy a game if it's around $3-5 no matter what it is as long as I dont already have it. ON TO THE FINDS:

1. Time Crisis 3/Guncon2 CIB- $10.50 This was when it was still going for at least 3x that in stores. (They had another one w/out the game, gun only- still wish I'd picked it up! :( )

2. SNES (console only) $4. All that's wrong is the adapter plug-in's a bit loose inside the case- I just push the back against the wall- works great. I bought cables at GameStop- they were more than the console itself!

3. Sega Dreamcast, VMU, 4 controllers, 3 controller extensions, 16 games- $30. (Actually my mother-in-law gets credit for this one from a garage sale.) I sold back around half the games that I wasnt interested in/got low reviews & got better ones w/ the $.

1. NES, Toploader NES, dog bone controller, NES advantage, more controlling, hookups, and a few games-20$ was 30, but we knocked in down :D

As for second and thirt I dunno, I guess you can decide, heres some of the better ones:

Herzong Zwei,complete 5$
Hurricanes(R7) 3$
A few SNES games-45 cents a piece

My best three finds in the wild, were:

1. A storage locker of stuff that belonged to American Technos after they died in the USA. A friend of mine owned a thrift store, and he stumbled upon this during one of the seized storage locker auctions he would go to. For about $400, I bought most of the contents from him, including:

PSX1 Development Kit
PSy-Q Dev kit from Psygnosis
20 complete famicom cartridges
complete famicom in the box
complete white Japanese Saturn in the box
American Technos' framed business license (hahaha)
a binder of all their US copyright certificates
stacks of prototype discs for PSX and 3DO (pretty much all released stuff)
a handful of Sega Genesis EPROM carts, including a PAL Battletoads Vs. Double Dragon
An NES prototype cart of some horror game that was later lost in the mail to someone
A box of Kunio and double dragon related mangas and videos (kunio's the character from River City Ransom)
About a dozen Super Famicom titles released by Technos Japan, including River City Ransom 2
Four award plaques, including two for Wrestlefest from the AMAA awards or something like that.
A Gameboy two system demo unit
Various gameboy eprom carts

2. Started working at a company, the 3DO had died like a year previous, and I was allowed to take two boxes of about 40 discs of titles that were cancelled or rejected when they submitted them to us for publishing. Ended up with most of the "big" titles that went unreleased, including BIOS Fear, Theo the Dinosaur, Varuna's Forces, Icebreaker 2 and so on.

3. Working at another game company, our engineering department was throwing away a bunch of equipment and EPROM carts. I ended up getting three EPROM burners (later sold on ebay for about $300 each), and around 30 Genesis prototype carts (of two released titles). Ended up selling the carts on ebay for around $15-$40 each.

And I'm going to violate the three item rule, and go further...

4. A used computer store in my area bought a bunch of server hardware from an online division of Sega when they shut down an office. Oddly enough, they ended up with stacks of "Mega CD" CD-Rs used for burning test copies of games, and were selling them as cheapo CD-Rs in their aisle. I picked up three packages of four for a couple bucks each. Ended up staggering their sale on ebay over the next few months, getting like $30 each. Went back, but they'd sold the rest of the discs to people who probably later put family photos or work files on 'em.

5. Working on Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare, I was given a statue of Edward Carnby.

6. Was also given a leather Unreal Tournament jacket for working on that.

7. A game company I worked for went out of business, and I took home their entire magazine archive (probably about 500+ video game magazines).

8. I stumbled upon a coworker at another place using Japanese Sega Saturn discs to burn work files to. I ran to the local electronic's store, grabbed his Saturn discs, and replaced them with some memorex discs.

9. I came across prototype discs of "Radical Racer," "Pac Man World 1 (E3 demo)," and "Judge Dredd" for PSX at someone's flea market spot. Got em for like $3 each.

10. Nabbed a red "Game Factory" cartridge at the same flea market for a dollar.

11. A seller at that flea market that specialized in games sold me stacks of sealed Lynx titles for like $2 each, and I also got Jag and Jag CD systems for pretty cheap, although I don't remember how much.

12. Put an ad in the local circular, saying I was looking to buy classic games cheap. Ended up buying a collection of Nintendo Power, EGM and Game Pro from a local gamer, mostly NM condition, for like $30.

I stopped collecting for quite some time, though. I had to sell most of my items when I was having financial problems, which killed my desire to collect any more. Going to the CGExpo revived that bug in me.

These are all from a long time ago, around the time the Sega Saturn was dying but here goes:
AD&D Collection (SS) $13
Panzer Dragoon Saga, mint complete: $8. Yes eight.
Saturn Bomberman (complete) $5
In fact I own over 150 and the average price I have paid is about $20 apiece. Not bad considering my library of SS titles (about 95 US titles, rest imports)
Pirates! Gold mint complete $5

I haven't had really any mindblowing finds just yet, but here goes:

1) Suikoden II (Sealed)- $ 9.99 at Virgin Megastore. Back in like 2002 or 2003 I believe.

2) Suikoden I (Sealed)- $ 9.99 at Sears. Around the same time I got the above mentioned gem.

3) Hmmm, i dunno, I guess this decent Genesis bundle I got off my friend for like 20 bucks. Genesis system (first model), 2 controllers, and like 10 or so games.

Although I don't have anything really special like Prototypes or Turnament carts, finding great classics I enjoy are my best finds. :)

#1: Galactic Attack (Saturn)
An awesome shooter I had been hyped to get for a long time. It ended up costing me $8 to buy at a local used game store and loved it as much as the screen shots I drooled over. Instant classic and supurb game in my collection.

#2: Paper Mario (Nintendo64)
Got it for $8 at a pawn shop and was SO happy to see it. I had always wanted to get it and check it out since I saw people playing the second one for the Gamecube. Although I only played a few hours worth I'm sure one day I'll dedicate time to go all the way.

#3: Prince of Persia 2 (Super Nintendo)
For a special price of $2, this decently rare game got baught and placed in my collection. I love the Prince of Persia games because of the puzzles and time limits. Finding this made me so happy because I already had the first for the SNES.

There's plenty of other games in my collection but these 3 games were the first to hit my mind as great finds personally. I guess it's also great they aren't SUPER amazing finds compaired to others on the forum so I have plenty of room to still shoot for the moon and find something nice. :)

1) A PS1 with 14 games and a boxed analogue joystick for £7. It turned out two of the games were worth a £9 trade in each at Gamestation. I don't really collect PS1 games, so I traded in the console and 8 games for £35.

2) A Megadrive 1 with 9 games for £10. It turned out the console didn't work but I opened it up and wiggled some stuff, not knowing what I was doing. I managed to make it work enough to trade it in for £9. Then I sold two of the games for £2 each. So I got 7 games and £3.:)

3) I haven't had many great finds so my 3rd one is a bit so-so. I got a boxed clear blue GBA with a light, battery pack and charger for £8. I was pleased with it, especially considering Gamestation is selling the same style, boxed, for £35. :eek 2:

1. Bought a fully functional Sega Nomad for $50 from one of our customers (I'm the web/ebay guy at a comic book store). It's in primo condition too!

2. Found a Half Price Books with a HUGE stock of Sega CD games. Nothing super rare (no Snatchers, Keios, or anything like that), but what they had was super clean with unbroken cases. Yes, I bought them all.

3.Randomly walked into an EB and found Secret of Mana and Final Fantasy III, carts only. They were averagely priced. I couldn't pass them up of course.

Runner up:
We're selling a pachinko machine for $100. I really want this badboy. It's in superb condition; everything works great to boot. Hmmm....

I've had tons of great finds in the wild and it's hard to keep track of them all.

However, this year, my best finds have been:

1. Top loading NES at flea market $5.00 ( I also scored one at an estate auction last year for $6.00)

2. Dragon Warrior 2 for NES for $1.00 (Goodwill)

3. Super Mario RPG for SNES for $1.00 (Goodwill)

Runner-up- Burning Rangers for Sega Saturn for $5.00 during their last 5 for $15 sale. I believe that was last fall. September, maybe?

2 copies of Metal Warriors(SNES) for 10.
1 copy of Metal Marines(SNES) for 10.
New Horizons(SNES) for 10.
Ardy Lightfoot(SNES) and Spike McFang(SNES) for 5 each.
One Piece Mansion(PSX) for 2.99.

I saw One Piece for $30 at SWAPUSA and talked to the sales man about it. He really wanted it and I told him that I had gotten a copy for $3. He was wowed but I just pick up cheap PSX games all the time to see if they're ny good. At 3 bucks you can't go wrong.

Yup, I got this game for a trade at the flea market, and it was the only time I ever spotted POP2... never saw it on eBay. Couple weeks later I traded the same vendor to get POP1.

As for my top 3 finds in the wild....

1. Aero Fighters
Traded a vendor 4 crappy fighting game VHS movies I couldn't paid to get anyone to buy online. Oh my God I couldn't believe the steal I got.

2. Metal Warriors
Trade for crappy doubles

3. Gem Fire
ditto!

This is a tough one for me. So many finds....

Ok, best three in the wild.

1. Best so far was my second arcade lot I picked up. 20 or so PCB's (3 pac-mans in there), about 40 marquees/artwork, A Soul Edge cab (dedicated Simpsons, restoring now),Enduro Racer, Blitz 2000, Upright Turbo Out Run, a Capcom Bowling, 720, and Total Carnage (Rampage conversion). All this was free. Probably a couple more cabs thrown in there, but I can't think of them right now.

2. NES games at the Goodwill. Usually my local Goodwill has next to nothing. This time was different. picked up 75 or so boxed/complete NES games for $2 apiece. Among the gems are 2 Crystal Mines, all 3 Ultimas, 2 Final Fantasies, all 4 Dragon Warriors, Panic Restaurant, etc. No Stadium Events, but definitely some stuff well worth $2. I bought just about all of it. (I passed on the stuff with the really trashed boxes i.e SMB, John Elway QB, etc.). These boxed games have the original plastic wrap on them still, but all have been opened. Carts are in mint cond.

3. Picked up (about 7 years ago) an Intelivision with 12 games all boxed/complete for $25. INTV has to be the cleanest one I have ever seen other than new. Control Discs aren't even worn yet, they're still gold. No real rares for the games, though. Still, the system in that shape alone is worth it.

Close 2nd and third were Bubble Bobble 2 for $35, and almost a literal ton of Amiga stuff from a friend who moved out of state for free. Don't ask what's there, I haven't even had time to look yet (but it's a lot).

NES Game Action Replay (loose, has battery though): $3

I know that that's pretty rare... other things I'm pretty ignorant to rarity or value.

My best finds were at going out of business sale about 5 years ago. Psychic Detective, Discworld 1 & 2, Braindead 13, and Silverload, and about 15 other random PS games all sealed. A whopping 25 bucks!!

My boxed copy of Super Mario Bros.

My boxed copy of Super Mario Bros. 2.

My boxed copy of Super Mario Bros. 3.

When lined up on the shelf they look awesome. It's great to have the trilogy. :D

Surprisingly that is my greatest find in the wild. By which I mean not on eBay.

My best 3 would have to be:

1. Big cardboard box with a Gen model 1, 10 misc boxed and loose games and Genghis Khan 2 boxed in great shape, and Sorcerer's Kingdom boxed in great shape for $10.00 from a thrift store.

2. A great condition complete copy of Pirates! Gold for the Gen for $5.00 from a co-worker.

3. A Sega Game Gear with the Caesar's Palace cart and AC adapter for 50 cents at a yard sale.

A Myriad 6-in-1 cart for the NES for $3. It has since left my hands and into the loving embrace of Jumpman Jr. :)

A Vectrex for $5. Ironically, I had given in and ordered a Veccy from a forum member on Atari Age, but he had some family problems and wasn't able to refurb it and get it to me for a couple months. And while waiting, I found my own!

A Milton Bradley Expansion System, otherwise known as an MBX, for the TI Home Computer for $30. Some reports I've read online state that as few as 300 were manufactured. It's a cool little voice synthesizer/voice recognition system. I'd always wanted one throughout the years, and I finally came across one complete in box at a booth at my local flea market last year.
