So did anyone print out the page before? I don't think I did (I THOUGHT I did), in case I try to return this and their customer service says the page never existed or something like that...
I did. There's a nice little description there too, about the exact number of ports and everything.

Well, for me it's no problem if it is the wrong one when I get it monday. One email asking for their UPS account number so I can return the product for full refund, including shipping, or it's a cancelled Mastercard transaction, with no product returned at all. Simple stuff, that credit card fraud protection our credit card companies give us.
I suggest everone else does the same.
I also have a printout of the original listing.

Hmmm... I think I may have to do the same...
My original instinct was to cancel the order.
But for the rest of the day, I've been wondering why in the hell they are just shipping out a different product than the one they advertised, without sending a note that was an error, or that there has been a product substitution.
I think if they had informed me that they had made a mistake, I would have just cancelled the order and forgotten about it.. the fact that they are just sweeping it under the rug bothers me.

Yeah, I agree with everything you said as well. Since I live in Canada, I'm actually going to make them refund this before I return it. It is one of the perks of the CC company I deal with.
I have all the emails, and my confirmation with it being the other item. I can't believe they didnt either honour it, or refund it....But the killer again, is that they just changed the product....The biggest killer, is that they actually changed MY COMPLETED ORDER FORM AFTER THEY HAD SHIPPED IT!!!! What a scam. No notification of a product substitution BEFORE THEY CHARGED MY CARD AND SHIPPED, only after..
Are all American companies like this?

I used Discover. I would ship back but they would need to refund 100% including shipping plus the cost to ship it back. I think they sent it UPS, and I don't think UPS charges to send something back...even if opened. Not sure.
What in greater deal is this cancel transaction thing? Why would you get to keep the item? I could see for an eBay transaction where you don't receive the item at all, but this is a store purchase with tracking to show that you received something. I would think you would have to send it back...

I would not have to return the product if they do not offer to refund my shipping and price first.
I live in a different country, and since I can prove 5 counts of fraud against them, with a paper trail being:
1. false advertisement on the site, printed off as proof.
2. Email from gamestop saying I would receive the item as described
3. 2nd email from gamestop saying the same (both from a Donna)
4. Confirmation of order as pro hd with picture
5. Wrong item in UPS parcel, with photos Taken for proof.
At this point, I will not even ship it back until my refund is made. They have lied 5 times. I will not trust them anymore.
with that evidence, my credit card compnay will void the transaction, even without the return of the product. Buyer protection, that we all pay through our interest rates. Most CC's have it. Just enquire.
Again, if they fully refund my product inc. shipping, before I return it and either give me a third party to bill, or just have ups return to sender I will gladly return it. I don't want it.
But, at this point I've been lied to enough. Time for Gamespot to have some of the same faith I had in them, to me.

Can anyone scan a print-out of the item page with the original description and post a PDF file of it? I'd like to print one out. It is very odd that I wouldn't have printed out a copy of that. I DID print out the page with the order confirmation, but that only lists the name of the product, with price...doesn't list description. It does say "HD PRO" on it, but I don't know if that helps much.

I phoned Gamestop customer service this morning. Enquiring as to what parcel was waiting for me at UPS. Sure enough, it's a four port version like flacks.
Well, I asked about cancelling the order, and if I should return it or what.
ABsolutely NO HASSLE . GAmestop was great. The customer service rep apologized for the hassle, promptly took care of the return through UPS himself, and also said he would take care of the credit card refund!
So, no hassles with gamestop customer service. They were fine. They refunded shipping and the product.

I thought again about possibly keeping these, as a 4 port + 4 port would be the same as an 8 port, but $50 as opposed to $80. However, I would guess that they aren't PASSIVE (they would need power...EACH), and would take up as much space....$30 more is worth more for satisfaction in the end.

Well, got mine in the mail today and it's a 4port (surprise!). It seems like they should be required to honor their original posting of the 7port. Actually, has anyone actually opened theirs? There are only 3 inputs on the back and on the front is the 4th input, but it only looks big enough for maybe composite/s-video, which is incredibly fucking cheap on their part, in essence making it a 3 port for component. Shitty, shitty, shitty.
Oddly enough I'm thinking about keeping it and not having to deal with the hassle. It's a pain in the ass and they should correct their mistakes (or just not make them in the first place).

The Pro HD is an 8 port switchbox, with 7 ports on the back and one on the front.
Two of these aren't the same as an 8 port, since you have to daisy chain them together, losing a port. Plus, with two, you have two front ports. I HATE front ports.

Here's my email to their returns department. This is ridiculous.
Hello,
I ordered an 8 port component switch from you guys in late November
for $24.99. According to the product description attached to the item
at the time, this was a component switch with 7 component ports and a
front a/v port. This was a good deal I thought and I ordered one. As
the date of shipping drew closer, however, I noticed the original
description and picture of the item disappeared; something seemed
amiss. As it turns out, I was right, and when I received my switch
earlier this week I received a 4 port model (3 component inputs, one
front for a/v). I'm not sure exactly what went wrong here, but it
looks like a 'bait-and-switch' tactic, the kind you don't usually see
anymore from professional businesses and corporations. Nothing was
included with the product stating they had mis-shipped my order, nor
was I sent an email about the change in product. Included with this
email is a picture of a web browser screenshot showing exactly what I
thought I was ordering, in stark contrast to what I got. If your
company will honor their price, mistake or mispractice as it may be, I
will gladly send this one back in exchange for the 8 port I purchased.
If not, I would like to return this item and will be doing business
elsewhere in the future.
Sincerely,
Justin Johnson

Well, I called them about this. They told me that if I send back the 4 slot unit, they'll refund my money and issue me a $20 gift card for use on their site. Riiiiiight. They're not even giving the same responses to everyone! Some people get to keep them, some have to send them back, etc.
They're painfully in the wrong on this one. I'm calling tomorrow AM to talk with the manager there. If the 4 slot has component outputs, I'd keep it. But I don't need an S-Video switchbox. I have FIVE of them already. I didn't order an S-Video switchbox and their email said that I was shipped the 8 port one. I wasn't. That's fraud, period. They're not giving me a gift card and making me pay the shipping to send it back.
IF they'd copped to it and emailed me before sending it...then I'd let that slide. But they didn't. They altered the page and didn't inform me of a change in the item I was receiving. That's not acceptible. Response from them is too little too late.

This one isn't powered, which to my understanding the 8 port is.
This is exactly the reason why I want the 8 port one, it doesn't have mechanical switching as far as I understand.
If the mechanical switching of the smaller device is of good enough quality, it is better than a powered switch. Powered devices almost always introduce signal noise, especially on the low end of the market like this. Component switches have always been insanely priced, but if AV nuts complain about their $300 8 port powered switches introducing noise, I would expect Pelican's powered 7 port switch to introduce far more noise. As long as the smaller switch isn't junk, it probably will produce a cleaner output signal.
Of course, whether you can actually see the difference or not is ultimately more important than the technical differences in the quality of the signal.

In my case the 8 port would come to umm.. research use. ;)
I'm planning to build my own L33t 15 to 1 SCART/S-Video etc. switcher and I was interested in what components they used and what kind of quality you get with those, something you addressed too.
I've made a some experiments with relays and haven't had a drop in picture quality (to my eye that is). I just don't wanna make too many scrap PCBs, would be nice to have something to work from and make it right on one shot.
I have one 3 to 1 mechanical switcher already and while it's neat and all, it really isn't much help when you something like dozen consoles.

I talked to Gamestop this morning, and they made me the same offer. I explained to them that that was unacceptable and they told me there was a disclaimer that stated something about typos. Well...I looked at their disclaimer, and it doesn't exist. For anyone currently talking to them, I recommend saving a screenshot of their disclaimer as well...I went through it with the manager and the reference was simply not there.
I saved a copy of this on my hard drive: http://www.gamestop.com/gs/help/disclaimer.asp
They're going to call me back after running it past the manager's boss. We'll see what happens next. I also explained to them that this was fraud and they had a legal obligation to me considering that there was no notification of a substitution and no disclaimer that states anything about typos.

If that reads on their site, fine, that's what they're not responsible for. But it doesn't give them the right to knowingly send you a different item and lie about never stocking the item you ordered. Not to mention not having the same uniform policy to everybody who complained about their order.
They had a chance to make it right in the very beginning but instead they decided to cover the tracks one by one.

On one hand you al knew this was a gamble when you ordered them, so I can't see how you can be too upset. It was a pretty obvious mistake that just about everyone in this thread took advantage of.
On the other hand GameStop is evil. So l wish you all luck in screwing them over.
And yeah not notifying customers of the mistake before shipping the switcher IS pretty slimy.

i dont think we all knew it was a mistake
it was advertised as published by gamestop...
companies have been known to offer the same expensive product under a different name at a lower price
some of us assumed it would be the same thing, but packaged differently
....and then we were lied to and never told that the item shipped was different than what we ordered...

Between the time I posted that link and the time you added that response, they CHANGED it! I saved the web page while I was on the phone going over it with the lady, and she said "we'll have to change that". I didn't think they'd do it that fast. I have the original one saved to my computer.
Here's a screenshot of the original page, as it was listed when I posted my last message:
