View Full Version : Does this look like a mistake and should I order it now?

This has composite, s-video, AND component for ALL inputs, right?
Some sites I've read say there is only component on 3 of them, though I've seen the things in store and I remember all connections for each input...

It must be a mistake. I paid $100 for the similar Pelican System Selector Pro earlier this year. I'd buy it if I were you!

Component, optical audio input, ethernet, and coaxial input are only on the first 3 channels. I have one. This is the best system selector I've ever owned.

I could swear I saw all types for all inputs on the back of the box. I guess I am crazy. Either way, I ordered it. $27 shipped.

looks like 8 to me (this is from an ebay auction)..
but the auction lists:
Pro System Selector Feature Chart
Full Metal Casing
Yes
AV/S-Video Inputs
8
Component Inputs
3
Ethernet (Broadband) Inputs
3
Optical Digital Audio Inputs
3
Dual Outputs (TV/Monitor)
Yes
Back Lit/Custom Name Plates
13*
Select Buttons
8
Front Access Inputs
Yes
Zero Impedance Circuitry
Yes
Product Warranty

If there is only "3", then what are all those other Red Blue Green inputs for?

I'm a liar... component on every input, but ethernet, coaxial, and optical are only on three... here's the back of box description:
AV/S-Video Inputs: 8
Component Inputs: 8
Ethernet Inputs: 3
Optical Digital Audio Inputs: 3
to make sure, I looked at mine and it does have 8 component inputs.

Kickass! :)
Hopefully this will get sent to me. Idid charge it, but it's a pre-release and they don't charge your card until they actually ship it..
*crosses fingers*
I've seen this at the GameStop stores for $80 and Best Buy for $100.
I was kind of shocked to see this. Both of those listed have the same descriptions, same manufacturer is listed, same picture shown, only the 'distributor' is listed different...one being GameStop.com and the other being Electro Source...But the GameStop.com one is by Electro Source...weird, eh?

Not really. I remember when the S-video/AV switchboxes were still fairly new in the game stores. Pelican's was pretty much the standard for a while, but after a short while Gamestop put the same thing out under their brand. They also currently do this with controllers as well. I never look closely at third party accessories generally, but I'd imagine the GS-brand ones are Pelicans as well. It's actually common practice now for many retail stores to have their own "brand" which was suspiciously similar to another manufacturer's product. Circuit City used to have starter kits for Xbox made by "Liquid Video." The controllers in said kit were eerily similar to Logitech's wired offerings for the 'box. Not all that odd, but this one is a little staggering due to the price difference!

You're actually looking at seven in that picture. The ones on the far right are the outputs. The 8th input is on the front.
I own one (paid $80 for it) and I love it. I've even got my PS2, GC and Xbox plugged into the first three ethernet connections and then one cable running from that to my other hub, works great online for all three.
The Manimal
11-22-2004, 02:46 AM
I figure with 8 inputs, I can hook up:
XBOX - component (do not own currently)
GAMECUBE - component (once I get one of those from Nintendo..grrr)
PS2 - component
DREAMCAST - s-video
N64 - s-video
SATURN - not sure what this takes. I only have composite cables for it..
PS1 - s-video
SNES - s-video
NES - composite
GENESIS/32X/CD - composite
SMS - composite (do not own currently)
ah shit... still not enough.
I also have to hook up Atari stuff...rats! x_x
I guess I can always either purchase one at a later date or buy a smaller one and daisy chain them?

I have a one question to someone owning one: Does the signal get distorted if there's more consoles plugged into one input? i.e. In the first input would be GameCube on Component, NES on Composite and N64 on S-Video.

I just ordered 4 of them. We'll see how it all works out.
On my 8 port Pelican, I have ports 1-4 filled up. Then on ports 5, 6, and 7, I have smaller 4 port switch boxes hooked up. I see no signal degredation whatsoever. Port 7 has an RF box, so those 4 are my Atari, Intellivision, etc.
I leave port 8 open (the one on the front) for Jakks joysticks and the like.

This is obviously a mis price, or a mis representation.

Let's see whether they try to cancel all the orders, ship something different, or honour their mistake.
Any guesses on their prior history of customer service. I live in Canada, even with expensive shipping I save 100 bucks per.

I'd say this is most likely an error, but in the description and picture, not in the price. Pelican recently released a smaller 4 port (3 component) version of this that retails for $25. Seems too coincidental to me for this listing at Gamestop to be anything but the new, smaller switch.

I'd probably look at the thing (if it was indeed different and with less ports) and decide whether to ship it back or not. I need one with a large number of inputs, and I don't like the thought of having 4 four port switches stacked when I could have just 2 eight port switchers....

Well, I emailed them, asking for assurance that I will actually get what I ordered. No response the first time, and it took 4 days for response to the second. I was very polite and asked, if this was indeed correct, or if it was different than the pelican pro hd.
Remember, there own descriptions are identical. Here was GAmestops response:
Dear customer,
If you go to our website and look under the item you ordered which is decribed as: GameStop Universal System Selector Pro HD.. The web page gives a short description of what is included with the item. If you have any further questions please contact customer service.
Thanks and have a great holiday..

My e-mail says Pro HD as well. The units are not the Pro 8 port ones but the standard 4 port ones. They look very nice and have all the features of the 8 port (svideo, LAN, etc) but when you're trying to hook up 30 consoles, the number of ports is a big selling port.
