Loving that PC Engine. When are you let it start dating and get married? In other words, are you planning on getting a CD-ROM2 for it?
Lord Contaminous has a duo-r as well but he has to get the controller port fixed. That's why,he got a pce plus av booster so he can play hucards for the time being.

My DuoR controler port is faulty also.
I expect that it is just a simple soldering fix, but I just can't bring myself to open 'er up.

Disturbingly, my PC-Engine GT backlight just started acting up a few nights ago. ...seems to be burning out. Now that's not going to be an easy fix.

My fiancee was nice enough to get me the 4 exclusive Japanese 360 shooters for father's day (DDP Black Label Extra, Otomedius G, Shooting Love 200X, and Death Smiles), so I imported an Arcade 360 system that just got here. Took a total of 2 days from Play-Asia, so not too bad!

This will help fuel my recent shooter addiction and may finally get me away from Ketsui Death Label on the DS (maybe).

For some odd reason, my wife can't stand Twinkle Star Sprites... so I rarely play it (Neo CD... but I'm guessing the Saturn version is the very same). Yet, she played through Salamander (Saturn) with me without a single complaint. She loves puzzle games, tolerates shoot 'em ups, but wanted TSS turned off after one round. Boggles my mind.

Is anyone buying new imports, or did I kill this thread with my last post?

Anyway, got some cool stuff today; consoles and a few games!

Consoles:
PC Engine (white) - 1300yen or so (a bit yellowed, so I'll have to clean it. Console only)
Sega SG-1000 - 500yen (console only, including the attached joystick. RF currently not working)
Sega Mark III - 500yen (console only. AV works, but RF does not)

Games:
Alien Crush (PC Engine) - 300yen
Ys IV (PC Engine Super CD) - 300yen
After Burner (Mark III/Master System) - 280yen
Space Harrier (Mark III/Master System) - 280yen
Champion Golf (SG-1000/Mark III/Master System) - 180yen (I overpaid by 170yen...)

If anyone knows anything about fixing RF outputs in SG-1000s, Mark IIIs or even Master Systems, please see my thread in the technical and restoration society thread (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=133532).

My real reason is that the Twin takes up a lot of space and I'd rather spend that money on a Mega CD (which I don't a Japanese model of yet) or another version of the PC Engine CD.

Yeah, it is. Fortunately the one closest to my office is a cheap one with good stock circulation. There's another one in Ichihara that's just dire - great selection but awful awful prices.

I'm still giggling from the one Hard Off that had a loose N64 and an N64 + 64DD for the same price :) Worked, too...

Seems a little high but not by much. For some reason that game always goes for $$$$$. I wish someone could tell me why the Japanese version of Fatal Frame 2 (XBOX) goes for around $200 if not more...

I've got a little Hard Off raid planned for tomorrow myself (visiting one I haven't and two I regularly visit) - wish me luck! :)

Seems a little high but not by much. For some reason that game always goes for $$$$$.I got it for free from a receptionist at my work that was getting rid of a bunch of her son's old stuff, along with some other HuCards, some Famicom and also some SF games. Bonk 3 was by far the best surprise, but I did end up with a few boxed Famicom and SF games as well. About 30 games or so.

Good luck on your Hard-Off run tomorrow!

I found a Bandai Playdia today for 1000yen. I didn't know much about it, so I did some research after I got home today. It looks like absolute garbage. I like collecting stuff, but I really have no desire for a Playdia (yet, I happily picked up an SG-1000 recently...).

Last Monday was a holiday and I decided to drive up north a bit. I was poking through the Fukushima/Ibaraki coastal are and came across one of the "We buy and sell everything stores" - Mito Kanteidan. (In Mito city, of course)

I've had very little luck in these sorts of stores lately as some of them have started to carry less and less retro gaming and others haven't changed their prices in 10 years. Still others are rat's nests and impossible to negotiate (though I like that sort of shop). Mito Kanteidan was different. Clean and well-organized, they had all kinds of interesting gaming goodness at reasonable prices. I didn't have my camera with me so I can't share pictures, but believe me when I say they had an amazing selection. There was aisles of just about every every system imaginable, and tons of rare stuff (PC Engine LT, several 64DD games, even some Pippin soft). I found several items I had been looking for for some time, like these WonderSwan items:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3441/3757976236_8b879578d2_b.jpg

That's the very-hard-to-find Handy Sonar and the just-about-as-hard-to-find Chocobo Fushigi na Dungeon pack. I also snagged some NeoGeo Pocket stuff I wanted and a used copy of Shoot the Bullet:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3480/3757977016_c13564210a_b.jpg

I'm pretty sure the Party Mail is brand new, too - it certainly looks like the sticker has never been removed. Not so rare but still interesting, I picked up some PS2 games as well:

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2483/3757976688_a226ce14e4_b.jpg

Haven't had a chance to play either yet.

For those who might theoretically be interested in visiting this shop, don't consider it. It's really in the middle of nowhere and only accessible by car. Probably why they had such nice stuff.

It's pretty cool. The first floor is all manga and toys/collectibles, the 2nd floor has games, movies, CDs, and trading cards, and I haven't gone to the higher floors as they have mostly anime/porn stuff I'm not interested in. They don't have the biggest selection or best prices in terms of games, but I always seem to find something amazing.

The one in Umeda is pretty cool too, but they keep 90% of the boxed retro games behind the check-out counter. It's annoying.

I didn't know there was one in Den Den Town! Where is/was it??

Yeah, I've bought a few things at the Umeda store, too - just not in 3 years or so.

The old Den Den Town one was sort of on the north side of things - somewhere a bit north of A-Too, IIRC. It was always packed and had super narrow aisles, but the game section was small and pretty worthwhile. I picked up a few Saturn rares when they were clearing stuff out.

Last few times I blew through Den Den Town I was highly disappointed in the prices. I snagged a few things anyway (at the Sofmap near Ebisucho) but left shaking my head a bit. Usually better prices in inaka but you gotta get to inaka.

I hear that. I lived out in Mie Prefecture for 3 years before moving to Osaka and I used to love cruising the giant recycle shops every weekend. I always found the coolest stuff and best deals at tiny hole-in-the-wall stores though. Unfortunately my habit caused me to blow 90% of my JET paychecks on games/consoles... LOL

Those are some awesome arcade games you got there, Rob! How do you play them? Do you have a cab, or do you hook them up to a TV?

My latest finds, all from Hard-Off:

Joe & Mac (Super Famicom) - 105yen (cart only)
Doom 64 (N64) - 105yen (cart only)
Top Player's Golf (Neo Geo) - 525yen (complete)
World Heroes (Neo Geo) - 525yen (complete)
Football Frenzy (Neo Geo) - 525yen (complete)
Fire Suplex [aka. 3 Count Bout] (Neo Geo) - 525yen (complete)

I was pretty happy to find that someone off-loaded a good number of AES games at my local Hard-Off. I almost never see Neo games, so this was a pleasant surprise. Some non-fighting titles, even! There are a few more games there that I don't have, also for 525yen each, but just the standard fighters (Samurai Shodown, a few Fatal Fury games, etc.). I didn't have a World Heroes game, so I did add one fighter to my collection. $5 is extremely cheap for any AES game. There was also a PS ONE with an attached screen for 3000yen, controller and hook-ups. I was tempted... but having a wife and a budget means that I have to be somewhat picky, as anyone with a wife who's not a hardcore gamer should be (poor Luke)!!!

I have a few cabs (2 x Astro City). The Aero City in the middle has been sold since this photo was taken.

lulwut: $100 shipped from Japan.
Boo hiss @ putting pictures of Taromaru after. I nearly had a heart attack seeing what you said you paid for that. Still, $250 is a very very reasonable price IMO.

Got lucky as a local shop had this for sale bit below the normal cost. Not only that but Generation seems to be a bit more uncommon than Galaxies somehow.

Just got in a nice little box from Risingstuff... I'm actually used to getting larger boxes as the last few purchases I've made were systems. XD But this was pretty packed with goodies, including Swords & Sorcery, Blue Forest Story (3DO); FEDA Emblem of Justice, Power of the Hired, RPG Tsukuru (SFC); Rez Special Package (PS2), Cowboy Bebop (PS1); plus a bunch of free extras including Switch for the Mega CD.

Jperryss,

That PCE joystick looks pretty interesting. And... Magical Chase? How much was that?

Jperryss,

The joystick is pretty cool. It's got adjustable turbo/autofire like you'd expect (no slow-motion) but also the panel with the I/II buttons rotates about 3/4 of a circle around so it can be tweaked for comfort. And you can't see it in the pic but it also has a built-in 4-player tap on the right side. I'm a sucker for arcade sticks. :D

The MC (PC Engine Fan version) cost me about $130 through RisingStuff (highly recommended store, BTW). I've seen either PCE version as low as about $85 (loose) or about $180 (complete) so I think I did OK.

Don't get me started on what the US version costs. You could buy the PCE version, a PCE console, and a TV to play it on for that much. ;)
