Feel free to lock if there is another Topic like this

I was just looking through the room of doom selection and wondered what is the largest known collection here on DP

I'd be interested in knowing this too. I did a quick search, but searching the words "best" or "biggest collection" turned up way to many results to search through.
Thing is, some people collect complete games were as some people collect loose games. Does the person who has 1500 complete games have a smaller collection than the person who has 3000 loose ones?
I've got 1100 games. I know I don't have the biggest one.

I don't count my games anymore. To much. But I think not the biggest here. Maybe not the smallest too, but a good middle place can it be. And most I collect only games which I like.
I know only, that I have near 670 Atari 2600 VCS cartridges, because I have near scan all. But these contain many double games with different lables or boxes. Not sure how many different games these real are.

So maybe I am between 1000 and 1500. But not sure, only a guess.

I doubt that there is someone who had "many" more than that. I would think your collection is up there with the biggest. Here is a list of some of the larger collections I have seen:

Megamanfan
Digitalpress (obviously)
I know there are more but I can't think of their names right now.

Off the top of my head, I'd say Adol or Joe.

I'd say either Adol or DreamTR, publicly known collections.

Or some guy who's insanely wealthy and has been very private who can afford to get every game they don't have. If I had 9 figures, I'd have every game released in the US within 2 years, if not Europe and Japan.

I'm sure paranoia would keep a lot of 10,000+ collections in hiding.

I'm about to hit 3000 games. Maybe about 2-3 more.

I know there are several people here with over 10,000 games, so I'm about halfway there. I've got 5644 games with 214 being duplicates. 3351 are complete, and I have manuals for another 597. Most of my incompletes are Atari 2600, NES, and TI computer carts.

I've wondered this before too, but I just know that it'll take me as many years as the big guns (Joe, Videogamedaryll among others) have been playing and collecting for me to get anywhere near. Unless they decide to pity me a bit and cut their collections a bit for cheap in my direction (I can dream...).

I haven't finished my count yet, but I think I'm between 675 and 700 total.

I don't have an exact number (which I should probably get around to doing here soon) but I would estimate I probably have about 250+ games, with about 5-10 being duplicates, and the majority by far are NES games. I've been collecting for a few years, I just don't buy everything I see... If I did my collection would be huge. I'm kinda picky about what I buy. And I usually end up buying one new game instead of 10 old school games.

How come everyone is judging size of a collection soley on how many games they have? Surely completeness should factor in a bit. I also think that consoles play a big role in collections, especially complete ones. If someone had 700 loose NES games and an nes system as their only stuff, I would say their collection would be smaller than a guy with 100 complete games for 6 different systems.

Because some people don't go for complete collections. I would say someone with 110 loose games has a bigger collection than someone with 100 sealed complete games myself. Games being complete/sealed/boxed just doesn't matter to me at all. Sure it's nice to have them complete, but only if I happen to get it that way.

I semi-collect boxes for pre-16bit games. I sold off/traded all of my 16-bit game boxes last year. I probly have about 300 complete non-sport genesis games that I'm still in the process of selling. I have all the acrts, I don't need all the room required for the boxes too. And if we're talking actual sqft of gameroom, I probably have one of the biggest.

Base number of games? probly only around 2,500... Seriously, I don't know HOW some people have 10,000... are you collecting computer (A800/trs/c64) disks or going for 20 label variations or something? How many 16 bit and earlier games ARE there TOTAL? Hell, I can't even think of 10,000 domestic released console games from the channel f through the PS2?

Yeah, it's not too hard, I'm 13 and since I started collecting last Feb. I've went from about 50 to 300 games. Of couse I don't care if it's complete or not(even though it always helps). About 1/3 of my collection are SNES games from Game Stop though.

I've only got a small apartment at 1000 sq feet. Somehow my girlfriend through careful movement has made it efficient enough for me to ADD games to my collection. 10,000 games in that apartment is quite a feat considering there is her stuff, furniture, two pinball machines, two arcade cabinets, and whole slew of shelves.....Stacking, double stacking, and triple stacking are the only ways in an apartment that small.

AS far as largest collections, who the heck is videogamerdaryll? Going by pictures, you would think people have alot of stuff. I could not even begin to take pictures of what I have just because there's so much insane stuff everywhere. WHo the heck wants to see the "boxes" in my closet where there are 500+ NES, SNES, Genesis and who knows what else cart prototypes are there?

I am sure BuyAtari and Joe Santulli have more stuff than I do...Joe collects for computer systems, and BUyatari buys all sorts of doubles and triples, and owns two game stores...I'm strictly console/arcade and Game Boy/Game Gear as handhelds...

wow i have some where around 2000 -2500 and i thoght that was big - i gues not

but i dont count my computer games - since i think that most people dont consider C64 - atari 800 - adam, as video game related

when i consider my collection its "games" (where the number comes from) then computer related like "my C64 collection" "my atari 800 colelction" etc. - i separate them

Well,i have to say i only colldct COMPLETE games...loose games are worth nothing compared to complete ones, generally 4-5 times less in value...even more if the game is factory sealed!

Then,it is easier AND Cheaper to get 1000 SNES games, than getting 100 CIB ones...

for me that is NOT the same thing at all! :)

how about prototypes?
How about systems?

There are a few titles I have hundreds of? Does that count as 1 or several hundred?

I sold quite a few off in the past two years but I still have quite alot left. I never counted it all but to give you some idea, I do know I have over 10,000 extra empty snes/sega/gboy boxes, over 2000 prototypes (mostly disk based) and somewhere between 350-400 N64 systems.

Of course, in many eyes owning two stores will disqualify me.

Thats a fine line. I have 100 complete NES Zeldas at home on display in what I call "my collection" but if someone asks for one at the store I'll grab one and sell it. Where does inventory end and collection begin if its all for sale if the price is right?

I have 2,000,000 games. And they are all Mario Bros/Duck Hunt.

I lost count after 500. I think I am now in the region of 650 or 700 though. Is there a special place here on DP for people who have over 1000 games?

I would be interested to find out who has the most sealed games though... I know there are a few people on here with large sealed PSone / DreamCast collections, and would be interested in finding out who they were and how many they have...

If you ask me, it has a lot more to do with quality than quantity, and I'm not talking about having useless cardboard boxes with carts floating in them.

I never could understand why anyone would buy or keep games they don't intend to really play.

As for people with multi-K collections, I can't imagine why exactly, though if I had the space (and money)I might end up there someday. I only consider enough space to be present when all games are displayed in an organized fashion though, and I have way too much stuff from other hobbies (books, minatures, cards, etc.) to go that far I think.

To get a collection that size requires:

1. Buying huge loads of games cheaply
or (which is the good way)....
2. Loads of cash

I have what I consider to be very nice collections of DC, Saturn, PCE, Genny/Megadrive, and decent SNES/SFamicom stuff. If I turned around and sold all of those along with my half dozen (complete) AES games I am pretty sure I could get up to multiple thousands no problem. Not to mention some of the PCFX stuff would be worth something decent.

So basically I have a small collection concentrated with the stuff I really wanted to play across a dozen or so systems, much of which was not cheap.

I am just a different type of fanatic I guess. One of these days I'll have to put (probably a list of, I don't have a camera or take good pictures) my collection up on the net somewhere. The number of games (500 something) doesn't do it any justice.

It's the import heaviness (more than half the games, I am a huge PCE and Saturn fan so I had to), that keeps my numbers under control I think.

I only worked in a game store for a couple months something like 5 years ago, but it didn't exactly help. A lot of the stuff doesn't exactly grow on trees anywhere in Japan, let alone the local Gamestop.

And as far as someones comment earlier that it is easy when you live with parents, where the heck is the money coming from if you are a teenager? Just wondering.

I don't think money is the issue when it comes to game collecting. By my reckoning, a complete NES collection (US) at market value would run you 12000, and a Playstation set 9000. That's what a teen with a part-time job at McD's makes in one year. What do you figure a "complete" collection would run? Every game, every system, every PC/TI/Amiga commercial release, limited edition console, etc., but leaving out prototypes? I'd imagine you'd be in the $100k-$150k for a US set (really, there are only 10 or so items that would sell for 1000 bucks+, including the consoles - NWC Gold, SE complete, NWC Gray, 10 Mil Model PSX, Bill Gates Xbox, Adventurevision, 3 or 4 2600 titles, a couple PC items). If you wanted EU and JP sets also, plus a respectable prototype collection, knockoffs, the works, I'd imagine you'd still be well shy of a million bucks. Videogame collecting is nice and cheap =).

As for biggest collection, how about Mayhem? Didn't he drop 2500 on PC Mt. Drash? I'd imagine he's got quite a room of doom.

As for "serious collectors," don't be dismayed by the incredible numbers put up by the true collecting legends in this thread. I'd consider 2500 games, including some gems, enough to rank you as a top collector. 1000 can be quite nice, but I've bought out videostores and been 1000 games up for under 1000 bucks...

I agree about the quality over quantity issue.

I see many members here have god knows how many loose NES carts and Snes carts. To me, that shouldn't count. Or at least, they should count under a separate counting system (Ie, xxx boxed complete games, & xxx loose)

I can safely say that each and every game I own (Bar half a dozen pack-in) are 100% complete.

I also think doubles shouldn't count either.

I only have 200 or so games, and I'm quite happy with that. :P Naturally, there are a lot more that I want to try out or own, but I'm (obviously) not a collector, I'm just a gamer, and I can't see the point in dropping obscene amounts of money on a game.

On that note, DreamTR, 10k?! :eek 2: That's... amazing.

Yes, but we cannot disclose any information of it until you actually hit 1000 games. Even by telling you this, I might have to kill you :P

I can't stand it when people say things similar to "Loose games shouldn't count, boxed ghames count as more/better"

That's BS. I personally don't WANT boxes for a lot of systems, I sold off all of my genesis, and SNES boxes just because they took up a ton of room, and I thought they were pointless. So you're saying my collection isn't as good because I don't WANT the boxes? Should I have just broken them down and kept them in a box in the basement? that would make my collection bigger in some peoples eyes?

I personally judge by how far along someone is towards their "goal" If you are just collecting willynilly for every system ever released, and you have 3,000 games, all complete in box, I don't think it's as impressive as someone who ONLY collects 16 bit and earlier games who has 2,000 mostly loose, since they're MUCH closer to completion than the first guy

Update, 10,000 games and counting, but hopefully not as much, because I am running out of things to buy!

Mr. Collection: I had around 400-600 games when I was 14, majority were NES and Turbo Grafx and Genesis and SNES back then for me....I'm closing in on 30 now, and the majority I obtained after the age of 22.

If I ever get a store, I have no idea what I will do. Maybe it's better to start with a flea market so I have a finite amount of space.

Your insane! Officially, you are 'the collector that I look up to the most.' Most of that is due to your complete NES collection though.
That, and your 7 time NWC holdings @_@

I am in the process of creating an inventory of my whole collection and I am at around 7,500 unique games with about another 30% of stuff to still go. I am all about mint and complete stuff. I know lots of people might think I'm crazy, but around 75% of the total collection is still sealed. In fact, for the modern stuff, that number is more like 90%. I respect people who have large collections, but I am much more impressed with a 2,000 unique game collection that is mint/complete than some collections that have 10K games, but lots of mediocre condition stuff or duplicates. That's just me though.
