I finished Hitman: Blood Money this past week. Some welcome tweaks to the gameplay, most notably in the control department, but on the whole it's still the same old Hitman. So if you're a fan, you'll dig it. The missions feel even more open ended than in past games, and there are a lot of memorable moments throughout (particularily the last "mission"). But if the trial and error style of gameplay turned you off in the past games, this one probably wont convert you, though I didn't find it as tedious as Hitman 2 and Contracts could be at times. It's a lot more forgiving. Fans should pick it up right away, but everyone else would do best to rent first.

Medal of Honor (PSX) - can't remember if I beat this game when it first came out or not? Overall, the game still has the best sound that I have ever heard for a PSone title, and the gameplay still holds up as a solid FPS. I did experience some clipping problems; hung up on a few walls and quite a few places where you just walk right through a wall into complete oblivion. Only took me about 5 hours to breeze through the single player (I achieved three stars on most levels and would only need to replay about 5 levels to unlock all the codes).
I decided to play the first one after I recieved Underground in the mail on Sat. Haven't play Underground but looking forward to more of the same.

Medal of Honor (PSX)
When that game came out I took a chance on it (despite loathing console first person shooters) and fell in love. Even though the level design was really linear, the missions were fun as hell and I liked how they actually incorporated somewhat of a storyline into it (especially how they intertwine it with Underground later).
i don't recall it having much of an ending (or any ending, actually), but at least it was more than "hey, let's make a game based on World War 2 Movies" which is sadly what Allied Assault, Spearhead, and Call of Duty were :(
Underground is better in almost every way. The framerate drops pretty low at times, but the new weapon selection is pure gold :)
My contribution:
I just beat my 26th game of the year, Spiderman 2 (PS1). It's not as good as the first game but still worth a playthrough. If you're bored, you can read my poorly written, GameFAQs quality review here (http://roushimsx.livejournal.com/33573.html). Too long; didn't read version: 3 out of 5 (Good, but not great)

Da Vinci Code (PS2) - Well despite lackluster reviews, I thought that the game was great. Some of the combat can be frustrating at times (especially when you are required to fight two or more enemies because they can break your attack), but the meat of the game boils down to puzzle solving and find the item (ala Resident Evil) style objectives. I was about 75% through the game when I saw the movie (haven't read the book at all), so I went into the game not knowing what the story was about or the plot twists (I think that may have been a positive factor in why I enjoyed the game as much as I did). The girlfriend was pushing me to play it as well, so bonus points to 2K Games for making a game that intrigued my women as well (rarely do I get pushed to play games, as she doesn't understand the appeal of most of them). 8/10

Number 5 for me New Super Mario Bros! I didn't want to just fly through to the end so I made sure I got all the star coins and alternate paths. Fun game with the right level of difficulty for a handheld platformer in my opinion. The only tricky part is figuring out how to access all the worlds.

Earthworm Jim 2 (SNES) -Well, I spent the majority of the my night off playing through Earthworm Jim 2. You can tell that the devolopers spent a lot of their time programming variety into the game (almost every stage is completly unique from standard platforming to shoot 'em up, to levels where you have to inflate your head and float around the level). The graphics actually pass with a higher score than some PSX game would, mainly due to the fact that a lot of 3D sprites were used in the backgrounds and the animation is top-notch. Sound was excellent, despite the fact that the I listened to the tune in "Puppy Love" for well over an hour as I had the game on pause.

#27 - Lego Star Wars (PS2)
Fun little game and easilly the best game Travelers Tales have put out in like..a decade or something. Episode III Chapter 4 - Defense of Kashyyk can eat my asshole clean.
Also, as much fun as it is in Co Op, the pod race and the zaxxon levels are ment to be played in single player only. Oh, and the two player dog fighting battle over the planet was very cool and Rebel Assulty.

#28 - Doom 3 (Xbox)
Quite a bit better than I expected, and the level design quality really does ramp up in the second half of the game. Not as short as some would have you believe. Still really disappointed that there were no subtitle options for the audio logs and that the audio mixing was so basic, but the soundtrack and sound effects were both otherwise really well done.
Right now I'm playing the original Sin since I picked up Emergence. It, too, is better than I recall...but the movement code can eat a fat cock. Seriously. I may wind up starting up Chronicles of Riddick alongside this.

#30 is the PS2 port of Ys VI. Pretty good game, but it could have been better if they'd worked on the controls a bit more. They took the time to incorporate the analog stick, create 3d models for everyone and do motion capture animation, but you still move on an invisible grid with no degrees of movement (nullifying the advantages of the analog stick entirely), turn in 8 directions with no interpolation (nullfying the use of the 3d models), and the jumping controls are ....spotty.
Backtracking isn't too much of a problem until towards the end of the game, but there's a code that allows you to teleport from save point to save point. I wish I'd used it :(
Voice acting is flat out shit. Additionally, the neat anime scenes (with the toon-shaded ships and whatnot) are disabled by default and replaced by some shit-tacular prerendered junk. Thankfully, there's a code that'll not only enable the japanese voices but also enable the PC version's cutscenes in place of the prerendered poo.

Rygar (PS2) - extremely awful voice overs and dialogue. Some of it was painful to listen to but lucklily cutscenes were few and far between. The fighting was fun and intuitive, giving you three Diskarmors (weapons) to choose from as well as a fair sized move set for each diskarmor. Boss battles were spaced nicely (some even back to back not giving any break to the action). Coming in a little on the short side though, as I defeated the final boss in just over 7 hours, but found only 5 of about 25 mystic stones.

#31 - Just finished off Darkwatch (PS2). Pretty short game (under 5 hours for me) and a bit too much reliance on those monster spawn points that you have to destroy (pretty uninventive way to extend the length of the game; you'd think this was designed by Rare or something), but overall above average and enjoyable.
Starts off with a promising premise but the storyline rapidly goes to shit and is roughly on par with a Cinemax original late nite horror feature, complete with totally pointless and out of place sex scene. Freaky bloody goth vampire sex scene, no less!
Back to Far Cry Instincts I go!

I'm actually nearing the final battle on that one too. You're right about the storyline, a halfbaked attempt that comes off as more comical than gripping. The vehicle mission was a good break from the action, but only occured in one mission. Combat was cool, and the double jump was great (and controlled like a breeze).

The vehicle mission was a nice break, but I didn't enjoy the controls at all. The setup worked fine in Quake Rally and I can see why they used it in Halo, but it was like pulling teeth in Darkwatch :(
Vampire powers were neat... they kind of reminded me of Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight (which is always a good thing). The sunlight levels didn't have obvious enough shade spots and spots where you'd think there'd be shade had none. A little more visual feedback would have been dandy there.

That game really set the standard pretty high for inclusion of bonus materials. Holy hell was it packed with really neat stuff. The "deleted scenes" or whatever video was particularly cool (and WOO, Icarus Wings will be in the sequel!)
Yesterday morning I beat Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay on Xbox and I'm going to have to say that it's among the top 5 first person shooters I've ever played. Possibly #3 (but not lower than #4).
I'm going to have to play through the PC version when I upgrade for the director's commentary, now.

Feels like a nice fork of the Armored Core games, like as if the series had evolved into a more arcadey design instead of more Simy. Nice, large destructable enviornments, good music, and the controls are a snap once you get the swing of changing weapons.
The major downfall to it is that some of the levels can be quite long (like 20-30 minutes) and you can't save within levels :( Overall the game lasts about 8-10 hours, and you'll be spending a nice chunk of time replaying previous levels to uncover new secrets, find the rest of the hostages, and rack up more money to research and buy newer/better weapons.
Shame no one ever brought it over to the US; it's another FromSoftware gem.
....and now I have no idea what I want to play.

I finally learned how to boost start so I stand a chance. Now I just gotta get better at not being MURDERED right off the line. The hostility of online racers....
PS2 - Guitar Hero
Finally beat expert mode. Damn Cowboys from Hell took forever. The solo was actually really easy. I had problems with the main riff but finally noticed the incorrect finger placement I had. Most all the songs in the game are 5 stared except for the last ten on expert. Don't think I'll ever manage those, lol. Not to mention the bonus songs on expert, GOD.

Well, finally managed to finish the game off this afternoon, and to my suprise I still had about 2 hours of gameplay left. My initial impressions haven't changed, and I have no desire to go back to unlock the extras. My game lasted just over 7 hours, due partly to the many times I died in the room where Lazurus absorbs the Deadlight Prism (rail rocket doesn't work too well in tight spaces with enemies everywhere). The two final boss battles were a breeze, all you have to do is sidestep their attacks, and plently of health and ammo are supplied.
I really liked the two weapon philosophy however, as it forced to choose whether or not to pick up an inferior gun with full ammo, or hope to find some shells for that limb-removing shotgun.
Overall 7/10

#35 - Headhunter (PS2)
Man, why didn't you euros tell me about this game sooner? I never would have found out about it if it weren't for some random DC-love-thread here and thank god for the US PS2 port of it. Great game with wonky controls (seriously, they're just a bit too sloppy for their own good). Fantastic voice acting and some really, really amazing music.
Glad I finally played this sucker and I recommend it to anyone that enjoyed Winback's gameplay. Sadly, I hear the sequel sucks (for both Headhunter AND Winback :( )
Right now I'm putting a little time into Ultimate Spiderman (DS) and Cold Winter (PS2), but I may drop Cold Winter. I don't know what it is about it...the screan tears pretty badly on my tv (I'll have to try it on my PC), it doesn't seem to work with HDLoader (my disc drive is begging to be put down), and the control just feels...sluggish. :(

I remember the solo being pretty easy until the end, where it got REDICULOUS. There were so many notes you had 0 time to think about it. I finally got through it somehow, I'm sure with a lucky star power useage. It wasn't an awesome looking run, that's for sure.
Just beat:
PS2 - Kingdom Hearts
Such an awesome game, I loved it! Took me FOREVER to get around to playing it, but I'm highly glad I did. I was around level 85 when I finished, put in about 40 hours. Beat all the secret bosses, only Phantom was a bitch, because of his instant kill attack using the clock tower. Synthed the Ultima Keyblade which took a LONG TIME. Got most of my levels right there. Did every single colliseum tournament on solo mode, and timed. The 50 fight timed Hades Cup was grueling. Had about 3 minutes left when I killed Rock Titan. Also killed Sephiroth which was actually really easy. He pretty much can't do anything EXCEPT for Sin Harvest. If that hits you're fucked because you instantly loose all mana and health and he teleport kills you as fast as he can. I'm defenitely interested in trying out the 2nd one, hopefully I can dig up a copy ;D.

Renegade (NES) - Beat it on difficulty level 2. Still not too tough if you have already mastered the running punch and (most importantly) the jump kick. You'll find yourself simply mashing both the buttons, and effectively works against all enemies save for a few of the bosses. A good beat-em up for the NES, although only four levels (and 3 difficulty settings). 5/10
One a side note: I'm really surprised that the streekwalking women and simple signs proclaiming "BEER" made it into the game. How lazy were the NOA censors?
Zone of the Enders (PS2)- Well I had heard mixed statements about this game and many people solely bought it for the MGS2 Demo, but it turned out to be a alright game. The fast action was a plus, especially for anyone who finds Armormed Core games to be a bit on the sluggish side. Ended very quickly however (<5 hours). Voice acting wasn't horrible and another plus. 6/10

On Sunday I beat Half Life 2 for Xbox (#36!)
The port itself was pretty spotty. For the most part, the textures were much lower quality than the PC version but there were some (such as newspaper clippings, family photos, etc) that were still high resolution which broke up the art consistancy. The framerate was very erratic and at times (Sand Traps, Anticitizen One) would drop to Rare-levels. Finally, the movement controls (mainly for on foot and the buggy) felt somewhat sloppy, with the buggy being the most affected.
Thankfully, there were some improvements. The generous autoaim cone made Water Hazard quite a bit more fun than previously (you never had to slow down to shoot guys, making it much faster paced and even more interesting) and while the load times ARE more frequent, they're generally shorter than on PC (about 10-15 seconds per segment, averaging out to be about half what it was on the PC).
Overall, I still managed to have quite a fun time with the game (best FPS ever!) and can't wait to replay it on PC again once I upgrade.... and then again on PS3 and Xbox 360.

Xbox - Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Man this was an awesome experience. I loved every moment of it. It really worked well with Bioware's usual extensive dialouge options with all the dark side and light side influence points. With all the equipment I had at the end, it was just unfair, dark jedi were getting murdered with a single flurry attack. Master Speed + Flurry = death. Final boss was a push over after I screwed over his plan. I went dark side the entire game, not one single light side point. I like it enough that I wouldn't mind playing through to see the light side ending, but I'd rather just get the sequel.
I must say though, the pure evil of what you can do to your allies at the end is just horrifying. But oh so pleasureable ;D.

Xbox - Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II
I loved the first one so much I went right out and bought the sequel. Just finished it now. Played through as the dark side again of course. Dear LORD, force powers were vamped up in this one. The Sith Lord class with nothing but wisdom invesment destroys everything. Insanity + Force Storm and enemies die like sitting ducks. Force Crush was rediculously overpowered for the bosses, since it only targets one person. Great game, although very easy as a dark side character.
I had a blast getting absorbed into the star wars universe over the last two weeks and enjoying two amazing RPGs.
Now back to Dead Rising! Hopefully I won't suck after restarting.

I finished a game for the first time in a *long* time a couple of weeks ago: Metroid: Zero Mission.
I bought it when it was brand new, but perhaps I was burnt out on Metroid: Fusion or something, because I never actually finished it. This time out I couldn't get enough of it and finished it over a week.

Just finished up Headhunter Redemption on PS2.
Despite the fairly negative reviews, I really like the game. The puzzles weren't difficult (they were both easy AND fun, generally), I had fun breaking the scripting in places, and Jack Wade is just a general badass. The aiming system in particular is exceptionally cool in Redemption.
#37!
I'm really starting to slow down :(

I just got 100% completion on Midnight Club 3:Dub Edition Remix. That's a lot of racing. It might be that I suck and/or put too much time into "pimping out" my cars but according to the game stats it took me over 60 hours to finish.

Psychonauts (#38) today.
Damned fun game and highly recommended...on the Xbox. I hear the PS2 port is not-so-good.

Dr Hauzer (3DO)
Damn you, it's all because of you (and the mention on Gamesetwatch) that I've been looking for a copy of that (legitimate or bootleg) to play. :(

Just beat Ratchet & Clank (PS2) today ...#39!
I really wish I'd played it sooner. It was a hell of a lot of fun, though the bolt grinding wasn't handled very well at all. I hear Goin' Commando is worse but Up Your Arsenal fixes it up a good bit.

Since editing is turned off...
Xbox 360:
Dead or Alive 4 (Beat it with every character except Tengu. Fuck this game)
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (All 50 achievements)
Xbox:
Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay (played it on PC, but only "own" it on Xbox)
PS2:
Guitar Hero (On Expert, 40/47 songs five starred (http://www.scorehero.com/scores.php?user=2692&diff=4))
Dragon Quest VIII
Suikoden V
GBA:
Final Fantasy IV Advance
DS:
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
Kirby: Canvas Curse
Warioware: Touched!
I finally finished Suikoden V and there's one excellent word to sum up this game: Meh. I'm amazed I beat it too, because the whole, "Split into 3 groups of characters you never use and go through a 3 hour dungeon followed by the end boss with no saves in between" thing was really making me avoid going through it, but I did and it's shelved. Unf.
Guitar Hero continues to be an addiction, but it's wanning. Thus far, the only songs that have NOT been 5*'d on Expert (but all have been 4*'d) are Texas Flood, Frakenstien, Cowboys From Hell (Still 3*, ugh), Bark at the Moon, Cheat on the Church, The Breaking Wheel, and Farewell Myth.
Just started Xenosaga III... hopefully I can finish that before Guitar Hero II ruins my life.

Just beat Radia Senki on NES. #40!
Great game and really ahead of its time. It was a good 3-4 years before anything even close to it came out, and it was a NES game, no less. Probably the best NES RPG out there, though to be fair it does play a good bit different from pretty much all of the others (it's like a mix of Legend of Zelda, Star Ocean, and Chrono Trigger).
I uploaded a short video of it to YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWqgOVyMCmw) to show off a bit of what it's like. It's not a very long or very difficult game (if you ever get stuck, there's an "advice" button that initiates conversations amongst your party, somewhat similar to Tales of Symphonia), but it is quite fun and there's some neat twists along the storyline.

Well school started up again so back to the grindstone for one last year, and amoungst all the chaos of taking 18 credits I managed to finish off three games in the past two weeks.
Batman: Vengance (PS2)- Very faithful videogame adaptation of the cartoon series. Undertaken by Ubisoft Montreal, the game is very well designed, using voice talent from the animated series, and a decent plot (if you have followed the Batman series for a while you will see the plot twists from a mile away). A wide variety of gadgets will keep you interested for a while, but ultimatly your bat-grapple and batarangs will be the two most frequently used.
Most of the level design is interesting but not overly innovative, and the developers decided to throw a batmobile and batwing level into the mix, but the ultimatly just end up being boring and frustrating. If you are a fan of the animated series you owe it to yourself to go and buy this game, as the end result is ultimatly satisifying. 8/10
Evil Dead: Fistful of Boomstick (PS2)- What a mixed reaction with this one! Bruce Campell is fantastic, as was the $20 price point when I bought this game 3 years ago. But alas, the game is far too frustrating because of its linear nature. For example, when you are transported to colonial Dearborn you need to find 5 deadites that are holding pieces of a spell scroll you need to advance. The problem being that you need to kill them in order or else you can't collect the next piece. With large levels and confusing paths, this task becomes an extreme test of your patience. But oh the voice of Bruce Campell raises this title to a personal favorite, but mind you not for gameplay. 7/10
Super Mario Brothers (NES)- Believe it or not, today marks this first time that the princess has been saved on my NES. Always considered a killer app for the NES but the last two castles are pure genius. I was never able to get to them as a kid, and never had the patience to play through the game again as an adult, but I was resolved to finally save the princess, and made it through all 8 worlds today. When I finished this one I sighed 20 years of relief. I played through the second quest until world 4 when I just couldn't play anymore. 10/10
*On a side not Evil Dead marks the 25th PS2 game beaten from my collection with accounts for a mere 5% of my total PS2 games.

Completed King Kong for Xbox today. That was one seriously short game, on par with Project Snowblind. Much like Project Snowblind, it was also quite a bit of fun and pretty replayable (not quite as much, but the scoring system in Kong is fun to play around with)
I feel bad for the people that paid full price for it, but the sub $20 price it goes for now is perfect.

#42 - Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando.
Early on I was worried that it was going to be an endless bolt grind (especially when I saw the price of the RYNO II), but it really wasn't that bad. The RYNO II was so hideously overpowered that the end boss didn't even get an attack off on me, heh.
Great game that improves on the first in every way possible. The 16:9/progressive support was great and I loved all of the Jak & Daxter and Sly Cooper references hidden throughout the game.
