What's everyone's thoughts on Carcassone? I love the board game and am really hoping this is a good translation.

A friend of mine really loves the board game and he loves the 360 version. I downloaded the demo on his recommendation and I am really into this one too. It is worth the 800 points.

Missile Command is todays game.

And just a warning - do NOT purchase this game, even if you are a fan of the classic.

Atari destroyed the 'evolved' version.

Yeah, I don't understand why this game keeps getting ported on all those compilation games. I always found it impossible to play without a trackball. If it was compatible with a mouse, it might be worth playing.

It's not just the controls.

The Retro version plays as it should, but the evolved version should be dubbed as the 'devolved' version, seeing as you use ligtning bolts instead of Anti-Ballistic missiles, the missiles don't explode right, making chains next to impossible. And the crosshairs seem to keep moving, even when you're not touching the controller. And even the PC version of Missile Command that Atari put out a few years ago, had multiplayer.

How can Atari fuck up their own game? It astonishes me.

Now, I'm kind of scared to see how bad they'll fuck up Tempest.

Just an FYI (in case people missed it)...

The "Black" map pack for Rainbow 6: Vegas is available for free download available immediately. The "Red" map pack is currently 800 points, but will become free on Friday June 6th. The new maps are excellent and are getting a healthy amount of play on the servers from what I've seen.

I think it's still going through the testing and certification phase at MS. There hasn't been much talk about it lately. That's another game on my watch list.

Maybe MS will suprise us at E3. :)

I started downloading it last night (early this morning, really) and it's still in my cue and still making progress ... ?

Regarding Sonic, I think the smoothing algorithm (off by default, enabled in the settings menu) is phenomenal on an HDTV. I usually prefer my classic games in crisp, pixelly goodness but wow ... they did a great job with that one.

I was thinking the same thing.

Most of the achievements for Sonic look virtually impossible.

I was gonna post this uplast night when I saw it came up on the Marketplace out of nowhere but I was too busy trying to download it lol Thank god I kept trying as I see the other posting is true...its not on there at the moment again I was able to get the full demo actually. My initial impression is......it ok. You get 2 areas..a run through of Nene's fortress and wandering through a forest. Each is timed up to an hour each, which is pretty damn good to be honest! Some of the battle scenes to me seem too cluttered and have a lot of quick cuts between enemy, player, spell, enemy, player, and so on etc. Graphically? Very nice Sound wise? Overall I like the music so far, although I cant believe they kept the vocal track that plays during a boss fight. Ugh. One of the worst I have ever heard. Overall, I will keep trying it and get deeper into it and I'm pretty sure I will get more attached to it. Now if only i can get a longer Eternal Sonata demo....

I also tried out Golden Axe and it is indeed the arcade version, with all the missing text, graphical touches and sound missing from the Genesis version. I think I may go and buy the full version now :)

GM80

Most of the achievements for Sonic look virtually impossible.

Are we looking at the same game? I think three of them (Chaos Master, Fast Win, and Perfect Win) look very hard, but the rest involve simply playing through the game, sprinting through the first couple of levels, and collecting a single Chaos Emerald.

Now if you meant most of the achievement points, then yeah ... 105 out of 200 are tied up in the three I mentioned.

Has anyone played Marathon yet? It is causing motion sickness? Several gaming forums have erupted in stories of people getting sick after playing a few minutes of this game. Even the IGN review says something to the effect of motion sickness being 'a hidden bonus feature'.

The older console FPS games have made me queasy from time to time. That seems to have stopped in this HD era. I'm wondering if the older, blurry graphics in 60 fps have something to do with it. I couldn't even finish Turok or Doom for the N64 it was so bad. FPS's on computer I never had a problem with.

As heybtbm stated: Marathon Durndal is up and also Spyglass Board Games.

And since this really hasn't been updated since E3 -

Resident Evil 5 - extended trailer
New Forza 2 content is up.
Project Sylpheed - 6 additional challenge maps, leaderboards & weapons have been added
Wing Commander Arena and Super Contra were last weeks games (but everyone knows that by now)
Dynasty Wars: Gundam Demo
Juiced 2 demo
All Pro Football 2k8 Demo
Moto GP '07 Demo
FEAR synchronicity pack (this has nothing to do with The Police ;) )
Beautiful Katamari trailer.
Stuntman: Ignition trailer

Surprisingly, these rumors are true.

I've been playing the demo. Never has a game left my stomach feeling queazy after playing it - this one I had to turn off after about 3 minutes, I was so dizzy.

And I never get motion sickness. Not in cars, boats, airplanes... Never.

I'm playing through the first level now, and I think the issue is that these isometric walls and the fast paced movement of the character can lead to gag inducing fun. I'm not getting sick or anything, but I can see how it could hit someone like it is.

segagamer4life
08-07-2007, 01:20 PM
Moments ago, the team released a system update (aka Dash update) to Xbox Live. Over the next few hours, when you sign in to Xbox LIVE, you’ll receive a prompt to accept this mandatory update. What’s in this update? The only thing this minor release will do is prepare your Xbox 360 for the wireless guitars that are being released in a few months. No new features beyond this wireless support are included in this update. As usual, there are some new features planned for later this year as part of the biannual release cycle.

There are also reports of the feature that tells you what game is in the tray not working.

I'm surprised it took them this long to release the Eternal Sonata demo in the US as I've been playing it for awhile now since it went up on the Japan Marketplace. I was looking forward equally to both Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonata but after playing both demoes I now want Eternal Sonata MORE and Blue Dragon LESS! The ES demo was very nice and I still boot up for a few minutes to enjoy its niceness :) The BD demo, however, just left a sour taste in my mouth for some reason. Something was just...off..about it. I liked the graphics and music (except for the god-awful boss theme) but it was so...meh...to me. I think I will still buy it and give it a chance again though.....

In other related news, I just read on Gamespot about some upcoming Xbox Live releases and was happy to see Space Giraffe coming "in the next few weeks" but a HUGE surprise I saw there was...Streets of Rage 2!! Daaaaaaaaaaaamn :)

After playing both demos myself, I liked ES much more than BD. I couldn't stand the voices for the hour I played it, so I would probably want to kill myself to have to listen to them for 40 hours. I enjoyed the soundtrack of ES much more also.

Track & Field handles surprisingly well, given it's control scheme.

But Stranglehold..... That game is gonna be fucking tight!! It's like Max Payne times 100. And the stunts make it all the better. I just hope it's longer than the MP games were.

EDIT - after completing the demo, this game just shot up to my #1 most wanted game. The game is very trademark John Woo, the level design and amout of destructability is amazing, the stunts are pulled off quite well, and blend very seemlessly into gameplay, the graphics are a little below GoW calibur, but still quite astonishing. The level of detail really grabs you.

The story is typical action movie fodder, but in a video game, it's pulled off quite well.

Stranglehold is AWESOME!! I'm not sure to buy or rent though, as it seems the game might be a tad short (end of the demo says 7 levels..)

Man I could not stop playing that demo last night... WOW.... I cannot wait for this one.... it looks and plays like Max Payne/Dead 2 rights, but WWAAAY better..... and the level design and destruction..... awesome..... I too fear this may be short, but with the added Hard, and Hardboiled difficulties it may extend the replay value a bit.

heybtbm

The amount of destructable objects in Stranglehold is incredible. If anyone has seen the John Woo/Chow Yun-Fat movies, this is just like a interactive version of them...slow motion, blood, over-the-top action, duel pistol wielding. Did I mention blood?

The slow motion (Tequila Time) closeup perspective of a bullet flying through the air into an enemies head (which then erupts in blood) is so cool...why hasn't a game done this before? The demo is fun. Also, this has to be the first demo I've played where it's possible to unlock something (hard mode) after playing through it once.

That's the thing. This game will lend well to multiple playthroughs, so length may not be all that important. I've played the demo through from casual to hard-boiled, and I bet hard-boiled in the later levels will be pretty tough! :)

I seriously hope Remedy seriously considers Max Payne 3 after they're done with Alan Wake. You don't just ditch a successful franchise like Max Payne, after all.

Stranglehold is pretty damn fun, though ALOT like Dead to Rights. It's nice that the cover is destructable but I didnt use it too much anyway, and I found it odd that when you use the special aiming mode and shoot someone in the head they scream and grab it.

I, too, have been awed by the awesomeness of Stranglehold. I've never even seen a John Woo movie, and I want this game so bad. I like how you can walk up railings and slide down them like in Jet Set Radio Future. I also like how the bullet time is handled in Stranglehold. It's like Max Payne on steroids.

A strange thing happened when I first started the demo, though. I started off automatically shooting and diving. I managed to take out the two guys in front of me, but then I couldn't stop shooting! After I was out of ammo, I started punching constantly! I finally pressed a whole bunch of buttons and took control. I took the guns and ammo the enemies left behind and went on with the game hassle free. Weird.
