SNK vs Capcom: SVC Chaos was released in all regions as far as I know.
EB/Gamestop has Prostroke Golf-World Tour 2007, the big box edition with the golf club on sale for $19.99. Any Xbox game that comes in a big cardboard box will probably get progressively harder to find in years to come.
Outrun 2006 I've seen several copies of this game. Perhaps it's because it's a recent release
I just want to make sure you're positive about this, and that you're not mistaking the similar-looking Outrun 2 for this game, or seeing the PS2 version instead of the Xbox version.
Like others have said, I've seen exactly one copy of this game and it's on my shelf.

anyone EVER see a copy of dinosaur hunting up for sale in the US? i have a gold disc review copy (complete with a xeroxed manual, other docs and a vhs tape with an ad on it), but i distinctly recall the game being canned. about a year later my eye pop out of my head when i see tommy tallarico plugging it from a game shop on whatever that review show was he co-hosted on G4. I'd imagine a few copies squeaked out from metro 3D into the california sunshine and showed up used, but i haven't found anything out there save for the original japanese version (which is also here in the import stack).
as for rent-a-hero #1 - that was canned. i've a reviewable of that here too.
next to futurama (which i'm looking for) one xbox game i don't see much of around here is iron phoenix, but i'd say it's not really "rare" as much as "no one bought it in the first place"... =^P

I regret not picking up more copies of it when I had the chance. The BX here had a whole bunch of new copies that took forever to sell. When I finally bought mine, there were still two left on the shelf...but they've been gone for months.
Damn great game, too. I loved Outrun 2, but 2006 adds a whole crap load of additional stuff.

Did anyone ever bother uploading Rent a Hero to the usenet or anything? I've always wanted to check the english reviewable out, but I don't recall ever seeing it getting distributed through illicit channels. Shame, I would have bought it without bothering to check reviews if it actually came out in the US :(
As for Iron Phoenix, I picked that one up new a few months ago for $12.50 because it sounded pretty snazzy on the back of the case. When I got home, I did some review hunting and found out that the game was a broken, half finished piece of shit. Good thing I didn't bother to pick up any of the other couple dozen copies of it that were sitting there.
If you like, they may still actually have some copies in stock and I might be able to pick one up for you.

well, iron phoenix isn't "broken" as much as it is undercooked. the builds i'd played a few months prior to the release were loads of fun and the online game tested VERY well in the public multiplayer demos sammy held at gng and digitallife. but for whatever reason (time, i'd say), the game shipped without the promised single player story mode that was supposed to be about 12-15 hours long. what you got was an online only fighting game with some nice visuals, cool moves and a bunch of weapons, but nothing to tie it all together except the intro movie (which wasn't finished either, from what i can recall)...
there's a hint of the story in in the final game - run back to the dojo gates after the tutorial - it seems as if the game is about to load a new area, but i believe you got booted back to the main menu instead.
i actually had a copy, but shortly after it was released, someone offered me a bunch of cash for it (they couldn't find a copy anywhere) and i sold it. i've been eyeballing one at a gamestop nearby... if it's gone, i might drop you a line in a few days.

My heart was full of joy when they included "Turbo Outun" music. I am still sad they never included the game TO.

I was looking through a big stack of Outrun 2 boxes at my local Fry's a month back and found an Outrun 2006-Coast to Coast mixed in with the nearly 20 regular copies. It was priced the same at $19.99. Snagged it quick! So learn from my experience; when you see a bunch of Outruns on a store shelf, look through them to see if there's a 2006 tucked away. You never know!
I wish I would have grabbed Fry's last copy of Samurai Shodown V, but I was never a big fighting fan. I am however a fan of cheap games, and they'd knocked it down to something like $15, but I didn't pull the trigger and get it. I need to stop passing on these types of things.
Speaking of cheap games, I bought Battlefield 2: Modern Combat, SSX on Tour, and Capcom Fighting Evolution all on sale at Fry's for $4.99 each. Don't know if it's across all stores or just the Dallas area ones, but if you're lucky enough to have a Fry's near you, it'd be a good idea to check it out. Having several near me means I never have to set foot in a GameStop to find something.

I can snag at least a half dozen new copies from Circuit City right now for $20 a pop. Kinda irks me because I shelled out $17 for a used copy a few weeks ago :( ($3 extra bucks for a minty copy? Yep, I'm shallow enough to do it)

I had a couple questions about Pirates of the Caribbean.
1. Isn't that the Pirates game which mimics the Sid Meier's Pirates formula, which I know is also a separate XBox game on its own?
2. Is that one very hard to come by or even costly? I know it is licensed and should be common. I do see used (potentially disc only) copies on GameStop's site yet I don't remember seeing it in person.

I stopped by a MicroCenter computer store today, and they had two copies of Outrun 2006-Coast to Coast on their shelf, priced $29.99. They only had one regular Outrun.
Thanks to all the info in this thread, I've been able to snag a few potentially collectible games, and fairly cheaply too. Bought Predator: Concrete Jungle today for $16.37 and Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil for $17.90. I also stopped holding out and bought Sid Meier's Pirates! before they all disappeared off the shelf for $19.90. Ah, yes. Good time to be an Xbox collector. :)

I finally snagged a copy Outrun 2006 at Blockbuster for 15.00. Only copy I've ever seen. Everything else should be fairly easy now. I'm trying to decide whether or not I really want to spend 23.00 on Jedi Outcast tomorrow. Or whether I want to get Streetfighter 25th Anniversary since those 2D fighters have been tough for me to find. I'll end up getting both, I'm sure.

So you're telling me that Outrun 2 is rare? I should have kept it sealed and sold it for $400.00 on ebay, just like I've been trying to sell my PS3 picture on ebay for $2000.00 (no buyers yet, but it's hot! the picture is hot!)
Damn! Maybe I shouldn't have had that guy scribble his name all over the bottom part of the inner cover artwork.
It's not like he made the game anyway, he was just the guy that did the music remixes.
Some dude from the UK named Richard Jacques. I never heard of him before, but I ran into him at that Game Developers Conference thingie that was held last March in San Francisco (boring!) which was also at the same time as that really lame and retarded concert called "Video Games Live". I happened to purchase this game that day and I was reading the back when he snatched it out of my hand, ripped apart the plastic wrapping, took out the artwork, signed it in a silver pen then gave the whole thing back to me. I wuz like WTF? man! Who r j00! an he's like I'm the one who made the music in the game so I was like s0 whut? You just ruined my game cover man! Now I can't sell it back to Gamestop and have them pay me only $2.00 for it when I originally spent $25.00 on it! It's ruined! I can't play a game with a mint disc knowing full well that some dude from England signed his name on the cover. ARRGGGHHH!
I mean, what do people think? Video game music is to be taken seriously? HAH! Video games are for kids! Next thing you know, they'll be letting people say the word 'bitch' on regular television shows, movies in the theater will cost $10.00 and up, packs of cigarettes will be over $2.00 and you'll be seeing gasoline prices go past $3.00! Impossible. Impossible I tell you! muahahahahaha!*
* For those who do not realize it, I am joking.

If you could had had him sign a copy of C2C then you might be looking at something you could sell on ebay. :p

So what's the size of everyone's Xbox collection? I've got 285. That's after about three years I think. Most of the rare games we've mentioned I bought earlier when they weren't that difficult to acquire. I've got to say, though, the best Xbox games seem to be fairly easy to find. In a way it's good. Unlike the PS2, which apparently has quite a few great but rare titles, people should be able to sample the best the Xbox has to offer without much trouble.

I've got around 100 - 110 Xbox games. I used to buy the Xbox version every time there was a cross-platform release, but I stopped doing that when I found out the 360 wasn't 100% backwards compatible and prices of the rare games started to dip hard. Now I just pick up the PS2 versions unless it's an Xbox exclusive.

Dai Senryaku VII is definately not hard to find, depending where you live. Every Shopko and Pamida I've been to has several copies for $9.99. I've seen it as low as $7.99 a few times last year.
I think the Japanese special edition with a model helicopter in the package is quite rare.

Phantom Crash is what MechAssault (and MechAssault 2) should have been. Much faster, much more kickass and with Gran Turismo-esque mech customization.
After reading IGN's reviews of the three games, I think I'd rather go with the MA games, although the speed issue is a worry.

I have a question for all you with huge Xbox collections. Do you have any backup systems? Personally, I've always been hesitant to buy Xbox games because of the fact that you can't go into a store and buy a new Xbox if your current console breaks. I realize there are tons of used Xboxes out there, but really...are they even reliable?
Since this is DP, I feel I can openly admit that I've bought backup consoles (new, still in their boxes) for years. I have an extra Genesis, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Gamecube, 360, GBA, etc. packed away waiting to be called into action if my current systems break down. I've spent $1000's of dollars on video game software, and will be damned if I suddenly can't play a particular title because by current machine is shot.
I'm curious if anyone else does this. I wish I could've picked up an extra Xbox while I had the chance...but I didn't. Like I said, this is the main reason I never pick up Xbox games that aren't backwards compatible.

I don't usually get new systems to keep as backups. Years later, I tend to pick up a system or two I find in the wild to keep around for backup purposes. I have something like three spare Dreamcasts, but I know that at least one of them have the 'bad controller port' syndrome.

I think my idea is that should something go wrong with my system, I'll MOD it and buy parts to fix whatever is wrong. XBOX seems to have a good fanbase so hopefully spare parts and such should be around for some years.

Yes.
This generation (PS2/XBox/Cube) was the first generation that I bought backup systems for. My launch model PS2 was backed up by a launch day Slim PSTwo, my launch day Cube was backed up by the Metroid Prime Bundle and my pre-launch built XBox was backed up by a Limited Edition Halo Bundle.
My PS2 is still going strong, but in the time being the Slim has become my primary unit (I had sent the slim out to my wife so she could have one when we had started dating, since she had left a PS2 behind when she moved), and the same can be said for my Cube.
My Original XBox did die. It had the infamous 'Thompson' drive in it, and after its many many hours (and newer meatier games like DOOM 3) it just went the DDE route really fast. I ended up buying another new system and left my Halo unit alone, but that was whe there were still some systems to be found in the wild.
For games i'm personally in the 180+ spot (I might have missed one or two) and have been buying on and off since launch. I'd own more, but I tend to buy for just a few too many systems to be healthy and the XBox and the Cube are the usual sufferers since they arn't played alot right now.

My first Xbox had the Tompson drive and gave me DDEs from the moment I plugged it in. Even after sending it in twice for repair. Once the warranty wore off, MS wouldn't touch it though it was clearly a faulty system from the beginning. I once posted my experience on the Xbox.com forums, but they took it down after about twenty minutes. That Xbox is sitting on a shelf in the attic. All it needs is a new drive, which is no big deal.
My second Xbox has a Samsung drive, and it works great. Not a hiccup yet. As long as drives are readily available, I feel like I'm in good shape. In fact, when it comes to Xbox, spare drives will probably do the trick just as well as spare systems. Especially if you're using a Tompson.

I've had my Xbox for 3+ years now and haven't had one problem with it (I have one of the Samsung models). I just try to keep the room it's in cool and dust-free (I run an air cleaner and will take a vacuum to it every couple of weeks). I'm not wrried about having any sort of back up.

I don't believe you can use any off-the-shelf drive for the Xbox, you have to use one that's dedicated for the machine. I don't know if there's a ROM chip inside or it's got a specific firmware in it. Anyone know?

hehehe, most LE xboxes use thomson drives (not all, but a lot of them). Also, most LE xboxes are systems that were returned to microsoft as faulty (the halo xboxes and the first round of the PAL crystal xboxes in particular). When i opened up my first halo system, someone had written "BAD" on the motherboard with a sharpie.
It would be illegal for microsoft to resell a system that had been returned, so to get around that pesky law most console manufacturers rebundle the system with a pack-in or a new case. As long as they can use a different SKU, they get around the law. All 3 console manufacturers use that trick BTW, it's amazing how many "Rare and expensive" limited edition systems were faulty returns...
The xbox dvd drives are normal retail drives with two differences. The "Fat table" is hard coded in the firmware (xbox discs use a fake boot sector so you can't read them from a normal PC). They also use a custom power connector (the connector also transmits the open/close door signal).
The general answer is that you'll need to steal a drive from one xbox to fix another. There are exceptions to this rule, but it's incredibly expensive and a real pain in the ass. You should be able to buy a replacement xbox drive for $20-40. That's the route i normally take.

Rumor has it that microsoft threw any spare motherboard they had laying around when they made some of the japanese LE xboxes. It's not unheard of to crack open a panzer dragoon system and find a debug motherboard (with diabled debug features). DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME, the odds are still insanely low. No point in cracking open a $700+ system.

Well, while checking out a GameStop out of boredom, I bought a copy of Futurama for $20 used and Raze's Hell for $5 used. Turns out Futurama doesn't even have an instruction booklet, now that I check. At least it had a case..... GameStop's used game selection is around 80% in generic cases, which makes me wonder what the f*ck is wrong with people that they can't keep track of a game's original DVD case. I can understand that kind of thing with sports games, since (in my opinion) most sports game players are complete 'tards who need the simplistic style of gameplay because that's all their little peanut sized brains can handle. Yes, I know that's harsh, I'm just making a severe judgement based on the sports game players I personally know.

When I bought a couple of games at EB I was pretty bummed to find that a couple of the games I got were without manuals and one didn't even have an original case. The one without a manual or a case was "Atari Anthology". :hmm:
I ended up getting some extra covers included with a lot of XBOX cases I bought. Nothing rare and no manuals but all but two of the covers are in great shape (the last two have a few stickers on them).

Whenever I buy used games from one of those stores, I open the case to make sure the manual is in there and not in a crappy condition. No one ever says anything to me, so I am sure they are cool with it. Don't buy anything without knowing everything about it. Make sure you get the manual, especially if it's a harder to find title.

Does outrun 2 come with the xbox seal on the side? I got a copy off of Amazon that claimed to be new and factory sealed but I am not sure if it was just shrinkwrapped.

If I remember correctly (from working retail a few years back) the first run had an orange do not sell by whatever the street date was sticker on the side but after that initial supply I do not recall

I have NEVER seen a regular (ex. not big box) x-box game that didn't have the sticker on the side. Most will also have the Y-fold seal as opposed to a regular shrinkwrapping, but this isn't always the case.

That's true. Both are $11.99-14.99 range at Gamestop/EB Games.
I'm almost positive Alien Hominid was only released for PS2 and Game Cube.

Well I am pretty sure the guy just sealed it himself. It was poorly done and I got half my money back and got to keep it.

Ok, a couple of more games and their relative rarity to discuss...I've been looking for Stubbs the Zombie in my area for about 1 1/2 years with no luck. Another fun game I'm trying to find a nice clean upgrade for without much luck is Deathrow. Any comments on these two?

All xbox games come with the barcode seal on the long side (it's called the spine label). Microsoft uses that to track the disc throughout production, shipping, and retail.
If it doesn't have that sticker, it's been opened. Guaranteed.

I got Deathrow from EB a few weeks back. It was only like $6.
I haven't seen Stubbs in the wild lately, but it can't be too rare. EB has it on their site in stock for $12.

Both are extremely fun games, not overly common but not too difficult to find, either. (Deathrow definitely the more uncommon of the two.) If you find it at Gamestop it's only $4.99, which is great. It's a great game, and playable on the 360, to boot!

I was wondering about the future rarity of the Spanish language version of Jade Empire. It didn't seem to sell too well around here, which is surprising considering the large Hispanic population here in Texas. Best Buy had them knocked down to $4.99 when they had the English version for $15. Anyone know how much smaller the print run of Spanish Jade Empire was in comparison to the original?

I spotted an ex-rental copy of Outrun 2006 at a Blockbuster the other night. First time I've ever seen it anywhere.

WTF? A Spanish version?
If what you say is true, then I'm sure most of the copies went to Mexico or Latin America. suppafly may have seen some copies, since he lives further south than me. Most of us just cross the border for our games up here. :p

There are still three sealed copies at my local Sam Goody store. I'd bought two a few months ago. Very little interest around here for'em apparently.

I've got a Latin American Edition of TimeSplitters 2. Found it used at a GS/EB a few years ago (in the Bay Area, which has a very big Hispanic population). Whats truly funny about it is that there is just a different cover to the insert/game/manual (and it looks better than the US cover). There is no spanish on any of the games menu's or anything else that would designate its latinness. I've also never seen any other latin versions of any games at any of the major retailers in the area.
My guess is that its(Jade Empire) rare in the States, but just not really worth anything, just like my TimeSplitters 2. On how rare it is, no clue, but I bet its a bit more common if you head a ways down into Mexico where some people have the money to buy games (and its intended market is) in the first place.

When I checked earlier today, www.1dollarvideogames.com had complete copies of Jade Empire available in Spanish and in good (like new) condition. They are priced at a buck. If someone wants a copy of that, they might want to drop by the site. I may be mistaken but give it a look.
Nothing I want, so you wouldn't be competing with ME for a copy of that thing :)

There is a complete copy of that game, good condition, in the pawn shop right down the street from me for $10.

Ok, everyone keeps talking about two versions of OutRun for xbox: Outrun 2 and Outrun 2006 Coast to Coast. I was pretty sure they only made 2006 Coast to Coast for the PS2. Can someone scan both xbox games side by side and add it to your post on here? I have Outrun 2 but have never seen the other one besides for the PS2 version.
