No way. Star Control II is one of the finest games ever made and always makes critics top 100 list.

You can do a search if you're really interested and find all sorts of posts from many forum members (including myself) singing the praises of Star Control II; anyone who hadn't played it is doing a diservice to themselves. I, personally, think the 3DO version is the most accessible of the versions out there, but you can also get it HERE (http://sc2.sourceforge.net/) for PC.

The Ur-Quan Masters is a "port" but it's excellent, free, and even includes voice packs (a MUST have).

There's no excuse for anyone to not try Star Control II at this point, so if anyone is still O_O about it, now's your chance to see why it's regarded so highly.

I think it is now safe to assume that Dragon Warrior/Quest V didn't make the list. It's possible, you know what they say about assuming. ;)

Sonic the Hedgehog, Radiant Silvergun, Soul Calibur, Sim City, Rez, Tempest 2000 and Sonic the Hedgehog CD are my picks of the bunch this time round.

Although I haven't played RS and Tempest 2000, I have played Ikaruga (which is apparently almost as good as RS, and I love Ikky) and Tempest X3 on PSX and love them.

I'm really happy to see some of the innovative PC RPGs hitting the list. Deus Ex, System Shock 2 and Fallout 2 are truly wonderful experiences. I'm was also expecting to see Thief and maybe Baldur's Gate, but I think they've been surpassed by what's already been mentioned.

I wonder if Ultima IV is ever going to show up?

Star Control 2 should get a write-up. Use mine:

'Star Control 2 is gaming Perfection. There's Diplomacy, mining, Star exploration, and Ship Melee all in the same game. Oh, yeah, and there's a race against time. SC2 is responsible for a few DP sayings/terms: "Hello Hunam!", "Frungy Frungy Frungy!!!" And I use "Launch Fighters!" on my roomate a lot for no reasons at all.

I was too busy at the time of emailing a list of favorite games but it's looking pretty nice. I'm liking the line up and sure to be impressed come the final post. Never played Radiant Silvergun before but would have expected it to be closer to #1 and because it's so high up I'm guess Galactic Attack won't be on the list.

Wow, this is shaping up like every other list in existence.

Top 10 will have Super Mario Bros, Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past, Super Mario Bros. 3, Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy III/VI, Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Super Mario World, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, feasibly Metal Gear, and Sonic Adventure with the sheer number of Sonic games on the list.

I didn't offically check, but it looks like it's the normal 33% Nintendo titles with a 50% chunk in the top 20.

As expected, current gen is extremely under-represented. Haven't seen Ico, no Shadow of the Colossus, no Guitar Hero, no Lumines, no WarioWare, no Steel Battalion, haven't seen Beyond Good and Evil. No Halo so far either, I guess that's something unique, thought it's probably just the very popular anti-Halo sentiment around here. Unless it gets into the top #10 which will be an anti-surprise surprise.

PC hit all the normal spots (Star Control II, Civ at #79 (!!!), Fallout, Deus Ex, Half-Life 2, System Shock). No Sierra games, no LucasArts games save Day of the Tenticle. Not an Ultima game on the list. Master of Orion, Heroes of Might and Magic, Warcraft, Starcraft (!!!), hell, no love for even Dune 2000.

NEC gets no love as usual. No Bonk games, not a single shmup on the Engine or Saturn (except for the requisite Silvergun).

Oh well. Maybe there isn't room on a top #100 list for any real originality.

I thought we might see something different here, but nope, not a single 2600 game on the list except for a token gesture towards Asteroids.

Also, I find it funny that when you poll so many people, they just automatically put in games like Silvergun, Snatcher, and Panzer Dragoon Saga. I've got to wonder how many people actually played those games, or is it just knee jerk to put them on the list because of reputation.

Don't get me wrong, they're #100 game material, all of them, and I didn't hesitate to put PDS high on my list. But you've got to wonder given their "rarity".

In any case... thanks for getting up to the last 10. Sorry to sound so bitchy, but if it's not obvious, I'm a little disappointed.

Well, your top 10 looks likely bar Metal Gear and Sonic Adventure. In their place will probably be 2 of the other games you mentioned above. As for those modern ones, well all I would expect to place high on any list, apart from WarioWare which would split votes on its many forms, and wouldn't expect Steel Battalion to list and not enough people would have played it. Those PC games, well, LucasArts, Starcraft, I would expect to place higher. You sure Monkey Island isn't in the list already??

As for the list, glad its making its way out - I'm surprised by Katamari Damacy also but all the big games are making their way in there. As for what made me happy - Shenmue, though, should've placed higher. And then the mighty N64 multiplayer duo of MarioKart and Goldeneye. I must of spend so many hours playing other N64 games multiplayer - but nothing compared to the time spent on these two.

I had Wall Street Kid for the NES on my list. That alone might get a WTF but I'm sure the fact that I had it on my list at number 2 was even more WTF.

My list was mostly Nintendo and Arcade games although I had a couple of odd games that may be unique to my list and a couple of modern games. In the end though lists like these become predictable because its the games we have in common that make the list. I thought about my list a lot and I know its not the 25 best games but it is the 25 games I enjoy the most. I play Wall Street Kid all the time to this day. I don't really know why but I enjoy it enough to put it at number 2.

Looking at what's left for the top ten, it would seem that a lot of other people suffered the same amnesia ;) By my reckoning, there's a max of 2 non-Ninty games in there.

Well that's the thing. The list is based on games that people voted for, so if a game gets voted multiple times then it's gonna place high. The games in the top 10 are there because they got consistant high places in peoples' lists.

Indeed, I can think of a couple there that were voted by approaching HALF the people who took part. That's a lot of people rating those games.
