Anyone get the new OPM magazine? It has a demo for Guitar Hero 2 on it. It only has 4 songs but thats better than nothing because I have been dying to play some new songs.

meh, it's not bad, but look at it this way. It's the I Love Rock n Roll of GH2. Thats one hell of a jump in difficulty.

The guitar part's pretty fun. Bass is HORRIBLE though, I hate playing it on co-op.
The demo's pretty damn sweet. I've been able to 5 star everything on expert except for Rush's YYZ. I'm just not good at hitting the notes on that one. Hopefully practice mode will help me out next month ;D.

So there is a 10 song in-store demo floating around out there and I was able to get my hands on it today.
Either I'm a fucking god at this game, or it's simply not as hard as the first one... I'm going with the latter. I have a feeling I'll be able to EASILY pass all of expert on my first playthrough... Psychobilly Freakout is on the 10 song demo and I pretty much raped it my first try. Only a three star, but I didn't fear failure at any time.
I hope the bonus songs offer more challenge. I'm pretty close to being able to 5 star YYZ already and PF, the song that was deemed to be just a bunch of random notes, is not that hard. Video of Freebird on Expert proves that it certainly doesn't deserve the top spot.
Maybe Hangar 18 will be impossibly difficult. Lets hope so.

Really? I read the big GH2 article in EGM a couple months ago and it said this one is supposed to be a lot tougher than the original.
I heard that the 10 song demo was the same one that was on the Warped tour early this summer, so they could have changed a lot since then. I really hope so too. My only gripe with GH is that the difficulty was too easy. I was hoping for GH2 to have the same kind of insane difficulty that's in the Bemani games like DDR and Beatmania.

I'm pretty sure the relaxed / corrected HO/PO's have made the game what it should have been in the first place, but made it even easier. Don't get me wrong, getting Guitar God on expert is still going to be one hell of a feat, but I think I'll be able to do it this time (40/47 expert 5 stars in GH1) with the HO/PO's fixed.

Buckethead - Jordan?
They couldn't pick a song that he doesn't exclusively play live as well as not strum a string the entire thing. Just hits the custom kill switch the entire time. It sounds cool but really convoluted. Binge and Grab would've been a godsend. I do love Jordan's riff though:

I've heard there's a new 10 demo song list out there somewhere. It's apparently being sent to best buys but our store has nowhere to put up a display. If I see it at work, SNAGGED.

It already exists? The text in the unlock shop says that he composed it exclusively for Guitar Hero II. I guess that means it's going to be a version of Jordan that's unique for the game. Should be interesting.

Hey you're right, that's kinda weird, maybe it is a modified version. It makes sense though, since he has never actually recorded it, this would make a first since it's always thrown into his live shows. I've very often seen him play it A LOT during live shows, sometimes he'll even repeat it as an intermission between different songs during the shows. Hopefully there'll be a kick ass solo added ;D.
At my best buy they switched out the PS2 kiosk and put in the 10 song demo. I closed tonight as well as tomorrow so I won't have a chance to stay and play it until Wednesday. I watched a kid come in and play Shout at the Devil on expert and then he tried Psychobilly Freakout which DESTROYED HIM at about 15%. It looks crazy fast, but mostly pulloff and hammerons.

I was excited to see that someone over at the scorehero forums did a bit of digging with the 10-song demo and actually got 19 extra songs playable. (http://scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2337)
And one of them is Bang Your Head by Quiet Riot, which isn't in the final retail version.

Just finished playing the full retail release and this game fucking rocks. Love the extra stuff they added to it like the stats page at the end of the song and the new practice mode. Did a lot of cool little extra things too, my favorite being that the band naming screen is on a SAT test sheet and the letters are spelled out in the little multiple choice circles. LOL

Oh God yes. Anybody concerned about the game being too easy should visit YouTube. There are videos up (complete with annoying voiceover before and after the song) of Jordan, Hangar 18, Freebird, and Thunderhorse. Those, plus Misirlou, leave me no doubts that it'll be a little while before I finish this game.
....that, and I played Psychobilly Freakout on the new demo and died at about 29%. It was on the damn chorus! That RB to YO and back chord switching destroyed me!

That's a pretty damn skilled video, ALTHOUGH, he did use the speed scroll "cheat" to make it easier. It's still a legit option, and spaces out the notes, so they're much easier to hit. A lot would call it cheating I guess, but I hand it to him none the less for pulling it off most excellent.

Actually, it doesn't space out the notes and nothing is easier to hit. It speeds up the scroll so it's easier to read, because honestly that solo at normal speed is just a blur.
You still have the exact same amount of time to hit each note if you do or don't have the cheat on.

Hahaha, I can't believe I'm reading the old speed mod argument in relation to Guitar Haro.
Speed mods exist in nearly every other rhythm game with scrolling notes. People argue about them being used in Dance Dance Revolution all the time (since there are some 9- and 10-foot songs that become more like 7-foot songs when you change the speed to 2x....Bag, My Summer Love and Orion.78 come to mind)
but when it comes to beatmania IIDX, Pop'n Music, Guitar Freaks, Drummania, EVERYBODY uses speed mods. You're just staring at one massive lump of notes otherwise. Sure it's possible to play at normal speed, but it's a lot more frustrating.

Well I just picked it up at Meijer, they've got a coupon for today (the 7th) only, $20 off any new game $50 or more.
It's killing me. First song takes me totally by suprise, Shout at the Devil. Even though it's on the demo and I've played it a dozen times, it takes me totally by suprise because they completely changed it.
Only played the first 5 songs on expert as I don't want to be too loud this late, but I went through 12 on easy (only way to unlock some guitars :() and it feels really polished.
With what cash I did get from playing on expert I bought some of the bonus songs... tried Less Talk More Rokk... holy shit this song is going to kick so much ass once I get HO/PO's working.

Is it just me or do the songs seem twice as long as the previous game? Don't get me wrong, I love the track listing but for almost every song I play, I either start getting bored halfway thru or feels like my fingers are going to snap off.
And I was really surprised how easy they made the HO/PO's this time around. Technically, there isn't really any PO's...it's just all HO's now. Don't know how I feel about that but it definitely makes nailing the super fast solos a lot easier.

I think that's a combination of the increased difficulty and the actual long songs. What was the longest song in the first game, Smoke On The Water? Now we have War Pigs, Jessica, YYZ, Can't You Hear Me Knocking, Freebird, plus some of the shorter songs have been lengthened. Longer solo in Heart-Shaped Box, new ending for Them Bones......
Can't believe how much harder this damn game is than the last. I have 6 songs left to pass, and the only one that I've had to play more than once is Psychobilly Freakout, but still....wow. I think I have 5 stars on 1 or 2 songs. I don't even know how I passed Freya or Crazy On You.

Yeah, I noticed that, too. Also, there are a lot more songs with long periods of not playing the guitar (i.e. "Frankenstein" in the first one), which gets kind of old.
I bought the game at Wal-Mart last night at 12:30 AM, and there were a bunch of skinny white boys all in there doing the same thing and clogging up the only two checkout lines (10+ kids like me; keep in mind that this was not even right at midnight). I had called them about two hours prior to see if they would have it at midnight, and the girl on the phone said that she seriously doubted it, so this was certainly not something that they planned for (I figured it was worth the chance to swing by anyway--glad I did). I really hate Wal-Mart but they're the only place around here that sells video games and is open at that hour, so I planned on buying the game there, playing it that night, then buying it again somewhere more palatable the next day, and returning that new copy to Wal-Mart, so the company that I like gets my business, and I get the game when I want it. As it happens, Wal-Mart only got the bundle in with the guitar, so I opened the tape carefully and planned on just switching out the game itself with the game-only copy I'd buy today. When I went out to retrieve it today (alongside Elite Beat Agents and Final Fantasy V), the Game Crazy I went to was sold out of bundles and only had a single copy of the game-only version (which was open and being used as a demo, so I couldn't return it to Wal-Mart unopened; therefore, it wouldn't serve my purpose, and I didn't buy it), and then Toys R Us had a few copies of the bundle but no copies of the game-only version, and finally Circuit City had one copy left of the game-only one (which I bought) and no bundles. I wonder why Wal-Mart and Toys R Us didn't seem to order any of the game-only ones (Wal-Mart definitely didn't; Toys R Us might've just been sold out of them already)?
As for the game, I was pleased with the song list before I played the game, but after having played it all the way through (I beat it on medium last night in about three hours, getting five stars on all but two songs (Them Bones and Psychobilly Freakout being the two) on my first try, and perfects on two of them on my first try), I'm less enthusiastic. I like the songs I knew I'd like, but the songs I didn't know going in are kind of boring and poopedy. I'm sure I'll have a lot more fun with it once I start playing with friends (which will be about 36 minutes from now... ) and/or notch up the difficulty.

Alright, so I got it during school (I left during lunch, yeah I'm a badass...) so from 2:45 til about 6:55 all I did was play Hard mode. Passed every song, mostly 5's, didn't fail any songs, unlocked everything in the store but all the costumes and all the guitar skins. This game ROCKS SO FUCKING HARD. !00% better than GH1, and that's on my top 10 favorite games of all time list. And so is this, now.

I'm stuck on Hangar 18. My arm/fingers just give up about 4 minutes in.
I went through on Easy and unlocked those two guitars, started on Medium and almost fell asleep. Seriously, anything less than expert is just boring.
First song I failed was Freya. That end part just kills me, and I haven't passed it since. I've got a bunch of 5*'s already but I REALLY want to just finishe the game and get my battle axe before I go back working on those.

This game is brutal on the hands. My left hand fingers and right wrist are in pain. But oh the joy. Such an amazing game! I'm stuck on freebird at about 75% where it starts the Blue -> Green pull offs FOREVER. I fail them even with star power. Last song I need to finish though. I have the PS2 version of GH2- but haven't had time to play it.
I'll probably buy the 360 version as well. It's bound to have a few differences- and downloadables! Hopefully they'll be cheap, like less than 500 points. Supposedly they could have more risque or fringe material to play, which would be great. It would be awesome if they could release a new song every few weeks.
And I'm wondering if it will be wireless. A 3rd party seems to have released a wireless guitar for PS2 already.

No wireless for the 360. At least not yet anyways. Apparently Microsoft isn't allowing any 3rd party manufacturer to make anything at the moment:

well me and my buddy busted out his change jar last night (the same change jar he used to get the original GH) and counted out $60 in dimes and quarters. An hour and a half later we were playing GH II. Oh man, this game is soooo good! The first one was fantastic, but this one is somehow so much better. The two player cooperative is so very fun, I really don't see it getting old any time soon. And the songs are so much longer! It's really a pain when you're waiting your turn, having to sit through "carry on wayward son". I can't wait to play it again tonight!
I got this game for Christmas, and have had a really hard time putting it down! I just love it. However, is it just me or does the difficulty ramp up really fast? I had never played Guitar Hero before and was able to breeze through Easy and Medium. I think I failed a song or two at the beginning, but then I did the tutorial and realized I was doing it wrong! LOL Anyway, I cannot pass a single song on Hard. I tried "Shout at the Devil" about 5 times in a row and the furthest I got was 28%. Wouldn’t you think that the lowest tier on Hard would be the same or even easier then the highest tier on Medium? Is the first GH like that?

Yeah, the first GH is a LOT easier. The easiest song on Expert, which is "I Love Rock & Roll", uses the orange button once or twice.
The orange button is a big hurdle for a lot of people. You pretty much have to get used to moving your entire hand up and down the neck. Especially when you get to Expert.
Try "Surrender". I personally think it's the easiest song in the game. "Mother" is also pretty simple save for the 2 solos.

i realized, save for a few songs. your home position on hard and expert should be the red forthe index finger, not the green.

Lemme BUMP this topic up by saying that I love both Guitar Heroes, and I could not be happier with how awesome this game turned out. I'll focus more on GH2 for now since... well, that's kinda what the thread is about. Dur. :p
It took some practice, but I managed to five-star all of the main songs (not all of the bonus ones) on Hard difficulty. Expert... is far out of my league. Some of my absolute faves to play are Heart-Shaped Box, Them Bones, Girlfriend, Bad Reputation, John the Fisherman, Stop, Trippin', and... well, YYZ and Hangar 18 are definite givens. Heh... they're all definitely fun to play, but I can't go back to Medium. Nowadays, it's Hard or nothing. All songs are very fun to play... even Warrant, I admit! This game kinda made me like that song, which I'd never thought would happen in millions of eons.
Anyway, I've a question... am I the only one in the world who really fucking sucks on Carry Me Home? That damn song really drove me to the end of insanity... in all absolute honesty, I find it more difficult than Psychobilly Freakout on Hard. I five-starred PF twice, both times taking some effort but not constant practice. I only ever five-starred CMH once... and I just BARELY won that one after about thirty tries and a broken brain. It's an awesome song and all, but damn if it isn't scary.
And for some reason, I really like to play Less Talk More Rokk as well. Remind me to pick up Frequency and/or Amplitude in the future if they're as awesome as GH2 is.
One more thing... Lars Umlaut for the win. ^_^

About a month until I finally get to enjoy GH. I have enjoyed my Xbox and 360 but I have really missed trying GH and GH 2 so I can't wait to play it. It's a for sure buy day 1.

Well, I tried the hyper speed cheat today (orange-blue-orange-yellow twice on the title screen...meaning it's "OBOYOBOY") and just like in Bemani games, it made a HUGE difference. I upped my Expert scores for Institutionalized and Laid To Rest by about 30,000 points each. And this is the first time I've played the game in about 2 weeks. I highly recommend trying this code out if you haven't already.
But if the GH community gets infected with Speed Mod Drama I'm gonna choke a bitch.

I actually did try that with the big Free Bird on Hard... and if I'm not mistaken, it was my best score for it. By essentially reducing the clutter of notes, it does help out. I wonder if it'll make Jordan actually possible to pass? I'll give it a shot later.
I heard Monkey Wrench on the radio today. Great song, but the thought that flashed through my mind was "It's not Psychobilly Freakout." Then I started humming PF out loud and flapping my head around wildly. I think that's a sign that I'm hooked to this game. :embarrassed:

Okay, who's having whammy bar problems? I played thru the tutorial and when I got to the part about using the whammy bar, it only worked about half the time for me. Checked out Xbox.com forums and seems like a lot of other people are having the same problems.
Apparently there are 2 different versions of the guitar. They are saying the one that's messed up is the one in the bottom of the pic, where the ethernet input sits next to the USB cord. I've got the other one though and I'm still having problems.

I have the guitar on the bottom and my whammy fucks up on me a lot. I have the whammy bar pointing towards the ground when I use it, and if it's in just the right position, it does not work AT ALL. A slight movement left or right all of the sudden fixes it...really annoying when it happens out of the blue in the middle of a song. Apparently it has something to do with the controller mapping, and the fact it doesn't work correctly if sitting in a certain position.

I saw 4-5 people returning them for replacements at Best Buy last night. I figured something was up.

I got this GH2 for PS2 around March 6 and I'm two songs away from beating it on Expert. I went through easy and medium without ever losing one song. I had to try 4 or 5 songs on hard several times (4 to 8 tries), but got most of them on first shot, with about a third of them on second shot. Expert's been pretty tough, though. 15-20 songs I got on first try, but some of them have taken me 10 tries, with 2 or 3 taking up to 20 tries. Insanity. I got 90% on Hanger 18 last night, being my third or fourth try, so I'm pretty sure I'll be playing Freebird tonight.
It sucks, I've only had it a month, and I'm lucky if I get to play it for an hour ever 2 days (at least for the past 2 weeks), cuz my gf is getting sick of the game, though she keeps playing it too. Game is the most addicting thing since Tetris.

I have the one on top, and after an hour and a half or so this morning I can say it's not broken, but it doesn't work as well as the PS2 one. It seems like there's a half second delay or so before I can use it on a whammy-able note. Not a big deal though.

That's exactly the same thing i've noticed too... i was chalking it down to the game and not the guitar tho. Dunno which is really causing it.

I read something about the whammy actually working correctly, but only engaging if the bar is all the way up at the start (basically looking for 100% one way). If it's not all the way up, the whammy won't start. Seems somewhat plausible as people testing the controller on a PC are reporting that the whammy is reading the proper range as it's moved.
That said I can usually get mine to work, but it's nowhere near as responsive as the PS2 was. It's actually worse than even the crappy third party guitars I have.
At least if it is the game, it can be patched.
