Oh wow... Just as I predicted - $500 minimum. God I hate it when I'm right! LOL

Sony just shot themselves in the foot.

Maybe if they did a little research, they'll find that no console over $400 has ever been successful. (Neo-Geo and 3DO ring any bells?) I'm not paying the extra $200 for a proprietery format that wont last (look at Sonys laundry list of failures - Beta, Memory Stick, Micro DV videocassetes...)

Plus blatantly copying Nintendo?? Sorry, Sony.

Yeah... I see the 360 winning this cycle. Wii a close second. The PS3's won't start selling until the prices are comparable to the 360 (unless you're an idiot who has money to just throw away). And even then, Microsoft will just lower the 360 prices.

Do you have ANY FREAKING IDEA how much the replacement plans are going to cost on a PS3? And how easy it would be to talk somebody into one? And do you know the commission the salespeople get on the replacement plans?

Man I could buy myself 3 PS3's with the commissions I'd make hehe. Or way better yet, 9 Revolutions!
When we merged with gamestop they took all the commission oppertunities away. Lead to a lot of EB employees quiting, yesterday was my last day.
Yep, I miss warranty bucks, too. Especially around Christmas, there would be an extra $200 or so if you did well. System launches also were a gold mine. But they only come 2-3 times a year, if that.

When the they had given us money for GPG's, Magazine Subs, Warrenties and Disc Doctors, i was bringing home more then what I was making from just standard salary.

Id average $450+ bi weekly just in "commision", not even around holidays.

Though I did work at the #6 EB in the nation in terms of sales...

Holy christ, the DS is going to continue to dominate. I was questioning how they could continue the stream of amazing titles... but.

StarFox DS
Yoshi's Island 2
Mario vs. Donkey Kong: March of the Mini's
Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

Now they need some more original titles.

It seems awfully convenient for Microsoft to force an MSN Messenger update on everyone, from a really slow, overloaded server, at just the time Nintendo's conference is taking place.

I wanna talk about this with my friends!

Julio III

Well, the start of the Nintendo conference was amazing, such a show, but as it went on, I was thinking, well...

Shigsy came out and was conducting a virtual orchestra to the Zelda theme, awesome!

Few new DS game sequals to old Nintendo franchises: Yoshi's Island 2, Starfox DS, Mario vs Donkey Kong DS, Diddy Kong Racing, oh, and a new Ouendan for the west called Elite Beat Agents or something.
Personally I wasn't impressed with the 1st party DS games but then the only update to a classic Nintendo franchise i've bought so far is Tetris. For sure they'll be some great 3rd party DS games in the show

Wii games - Tennis, Golf, Zelda (for launch day), Red Steel, Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, Excite Truck

After all the footage only Wii game so far that I'm particularly interested in is WarioWare, but they only showed snippets of that. Didn't show much for their other games which they just showed the player playing on video, ie. drums, conducting etc.

The final feature of the Wii controller is that is has an inbuilt speaker. I was hoping they'd show more details of the Wii - pricing, release, stuff about the controller "shells" which they haven't mentioned in ages.

3rd party stuff could be brilliant - oh, the quick glimpse of Sonic was good

By the way, I just watched the video for Red Steel. That looks like it's gonna be fun!

Super paper Mario (GCN) is looking pretty sweet. It lookseven incorporate some of the ideas implimented in NSMB (I.E. super size power up).

I like what I've seen so far from Nintendo. Basically a bunch of new updates to their classic franchises, but most of them look good so far. I'm definately excited about Yoshi's Island 2 and Star Fox DS. And Excite Truck for the Wii looks bad ass! It looks like an arcade style racer, which is my kind of racing game.

GTA as in Grand Theft Auto? Wow, that's huge for MS.

One thing really bugs me about that, though. Why call it GTA4 when there have been like 4 or 5 GTA games released since GTA3 already?

EDIT: Wait a minute, this is according to IGN: "On October 16th 2007 Grand Theft Auto 4 will be available on Xbox 360. There was no mention of an exclusive to 360."

So, is it exclusive or not?

Hey, here's some good news. Don't know if this has been talked about already, but it sure made me happy!

According to IGN's video piece on the game, Guitar Hero II will have a new practice mode, where you can choose to practice specific parts of a song. You can even loop it or slow it down!

Now that's an improvement. A good practice mode was exactly what I thought was missing from the first Guitar Hero.

Microsoft is staying the course, and thats a good thing. As long as they tread lightly they're definitely poised to steal a large portion of marketshare from Sony. At least in the US and Europe.

Halo 3, Gears of War, to be expected. Grand Theft Auto IV is unexpected, but not suprising. I wonder how big that'll really end up being as I felt the entire concept was just tired after Vice City.

I still don't know if I'm onboard for this whole web-cam console thing. It just seems premature, like until the TV's themselves have these items built in it's just a worthless and likely unused feature. The EyeToy certainly hasn't captured a large amount of support. Too many wires as well.

Only thing I'm disappoitned I haven't seen yet is a closeup of the guts of the Wii sensors that have to be placed on or about the TV. Hopefully we'll get some details in the early moments tomorrow.

Just don't forget that the $500 PS3 doesn't include a lot of things. No wireless controllers, no wifi, no hdmi output, and 40 gigs less in hd space. Buying the $500 version, especially if you're interested in it as a blu-ray player, is simply a waste. It's no different from the 360 core package. Anyone who seriously wants a PS3 and wants to make use of all of its features will have to buy the $600 version.

And yes, you're probably the only person left at this point writing off the Wii controller as a gimmick. Have you seen the Red Steel video yet?

ouch, no wireless controller no wifi? 600 is pretty insane for a game console, I must admit, but I guess its the only way to get the whole deal.. anyone know if there will be demos on demand like on XBL?

And yea, i saw the videos, but dont see how the controller does anything revolutionary or innovative, or opens up any new gameplay experiences.. Okay, the way I see it is like this. Remember Doom back in the day? Doom was awesome, everyone loved it. Good stuff. Then came Quake. Full 3D, using the mouse to look around, aim, etc.

Imagine all console FPS titles to date are Doom. Imagine FPS games that use the Wii controller are Quake. That's the potential at hand here.

Book by the cover and all that. Try it out, when Iwata, Reggie, Miyamoto, and the contest winner were playing Tennis on stage that instantly sold me on Wii Sports. It looks like an absolute blast. Red Steel looks freakin amazing too, more for the swordfighting than the gunplay.

You've gotta try it. It may not look like much, but using your offhand to push forward to use a shield bash to stun an enemy in Zelda will be second nature in no time, and it'll be far, far more immersive than pushing a button ever has been.

Beyond that, you've obviously got some kind of bias. You're listing the tilt controller of the PS3 as being a jutification to the system costing more than any mainstream console ever, but you're writing the Wii off as a gimmick? How is it not going to open up new gameplay expereinces? How is swinging a controller as a sword not a new gameplay mechanic? How is using the controller as the handle to a racquet not a new gameplay mechanic? These things have been done in very poor fashion before, and the videos today proove that it's being done in very excellent fashion now.

You've really got to reserve judgement for the gimmick portion of the console until you get your hands on it.

True that, I have not tired it, but I am not completely blown away by the videos by any means. I may try it out at gamestop once the demo stations come in, and come to love it and enjoy it, or I may not.. right now, I am just saying it has the looks of a gimmick to me. I have yet to try it, so I should reserve my judgement until I get the chance to try it out.

As far as PS3 goes, features are welcome to me, even if they are small ones (like the tilt on the controllers).. I was just comparing it to the xbox360 up there, and not the wii. I can't really compare it to the wii, seeing as it is in its whole different area, where nintendo is focousing its console as to how its played, rather on graphical polish. As far as that goes, it sounds like wii has the dominant controller, no doubt about it :) But yeah, dont get me wrong, all three are very interesting.. I have yet to play with the wii, so I should withhold my judgement before writing it off as a gimmick

Yoshi's Island 2? A platformer based on Paper Mario? Man, this is a good year to be a gamer.

Understatement of the show.

It's overwhelming. I can't believe right now that I'm ACTUALLY interested in a PS3, knowing full well I'll have to actually save for it. Put aside money from a month or two out of launch every week to a PS3 fund. That's absurd and not even including games. I'd definitely want warhawk, I loved the original way back when. I'd also probably want Heavenly Sword and maybe a few others.

The Wii likely will cost $250, and there are already 5 confirmed launch titles I MUST have: WarioWare, WiiSports, Dragon Quest, FF:CC, and obviously Zelda. If Metroid makes launch, add that. Wait, make it six, Red Steel as well. Toss on at least one more Wiimote for some multiplayer and a chunk down for an SD memory stick and I'm looking at a $700 Wii launch right along side an at least $700 PS3 launch.

Not to mention the absolute explosion of amazing titles announced for the DS that will inevitably be hitting right around the holidays as well.

There's too much. I still have 300 games or so sitting in my house right now that I want to play... so little time. And what do I do in my free time at work? Look at Ebay. I'm an idiot.

LOL, I'm right there with you, man.

Not to add to the problem, but isn't there supposed to be a new Super Smash Bros. for Wii at launch?

EDIT: This just in: Holy crud! Activision is buying Red Octane!

Anyone watching this crap E3 on G4? Good thing I'm tivo'ing it.

Here's a breakdown:
25% self promotion
40% commercials
25% useless drivel
10% actual content I want to see

That new chick (whom I haven't seen before tonight, looks awful in that dress. And this Zak dude is downright annoying.

Also, I wasn't too impressed with the Halo3 trailer... Looks like a lot more of the same crap - albeit better looking crap.

I Tivo'd it too. Kinda had some elevated hopes at a decent showing but alas was let down way more than I anticipated. . I loathed the little "joke" spots (history of E3, for example) and "The Feed" was just dumb. The babe didn't do much for that spot as she looked....overinflated and happy to be on TV. So happy you could hang a hat.

I pretty much fast-forwarded through a lot of it. There seemed to be a LOT of PS3 stuff, followed by 360 stuff. Felt somewhat unbalanced. At least they showed the Red Steel demo for the Wii.

As for the Halo 3 trailer, it didn't do anything for me. I like Halo a lot, Halo 2 was kinda disappointing (single player-I wasn't much into multiplay) so I don't have big expectations for 3. Seemed kinda cobbled together, especially since Bungie said they weren't working on that game (though who says they were telling the truth...)

Nintendo and, to a lesser extent, Microsoft, made the pre-show days of E3 for me. The amount of games revealed for the Wii, DS, GameCube, and Xbox 360 -- and the amount of those that really looked spectacular -- was truly overwhelming at times for me. I mean, a new Mario 3D platformer for the Wii and a new Mario side-scroller for the GameCube? A racing game for the Wii that seems to capture the spirit of Excitebike... only with trucks in place of bikes? Yoshi's Island 2 and Starfox for the DS? Halo 3, Grand Theft Auto IV, Fable 2, etc. for Xbox 360? My, oh my, what a (pre-)show.

As for Sony, they can go **** themselves. Seriously, they have no shame whatsoever in attempting to one-up Nintendo (all they did in the process was make themselves look like a bunch of scum), and I certainly won't be dishing out $600+ at launch for their console. If I ever get a PlayStation 3, it likely won't be until after it's seen a price drop (or three).

I just had a bad thought about the Wii controller. Hopefully I'm wrong.

If I recall correctly, and it's been a long time, the 5200 controllers seemed amazing, and fantastic, pre-release. The, once they came out, many didn't like them, and they proved to be less reliable than a Fiat Spyder.

Now, obviously we can't know anything until we get our hands on the system and play it ourselves, but I certainly hope the Wii controllers aren't prone to failure.

I don't think we have to worry about that too much. There's a big difference between what Atari was back than and what Nintendo is now.

And now for something completely different (not Wii related)...

Why the hell has it been so quiet on the Gears of War front? Haven't heard a thing except for the trailer I downloaded today.

God... My 360 HD is getting a serious workout.

They can show us all the footage they want, but we all know what the game is about now and we all know how gorgeous it's going to look. The only thing left to do is release the game, so until we get a date there really isn't much to say that hasn't been said.

It better be playable on the floor though, if it's not it'll give me serious doubts about it making it out this year.

Not to mention Nintendo builds their hardware to take some serious beatings. With all their experience around making GameBoys childproof in every sense, I don't think they'll have any trouble making the Wiimotes bulletproof.

You better believe they realize these things will come flying out of hands at times.

I'm an idiot.

hey I am in exactly the same thing as you

It's really scary lol how I am going to afford all these systems plus I still want to get an xbox 360

so it's just crazy

anyone have a link to the press conferences (nintendo's in specific) that don't require a membership site?

Aside from the Wii in whole, the following is what I am most eager to learn more about...

Super Mario Galaxy

Super Paper Mario

Yoshi's Island 2

Zelda: Twilight Princess

Star Fox DS (SS don't seem to do it justice. I want to make sure there's no damn foot missions in this one.)

Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (Also known as Wind Waker 2)

Can't wait to see all the videos and images over the next three days.

"Over the years I know you've heard a lot of Nintendo people say, 'We're all about the game.' Well guess what? We are. Whether you're talkin' about Donkey Kong or Tetris, Madden or Mario, Metal Gear or Resident Evil, he with the best games wins. Always been that way. Always will." -- Reginald Fils-Aime Nintendo Pre-E3 2004 Press Conference

Oh snaps!!! I saw videos of Super Mario Galaxy, Excitetruck, and other Wii games like Red Steel. Wii IS going to change the way we play games. When I saw videos of people using the Wii remote my jaw dropped. And it's $250? Sign me up NOW!!

As for the DS? System is gonna keep dishing out the pwnage. My word, I've got some saving to do.

My faith in Nintendo's vision can only take me so far, and I fear this is beyond that border.
