I have the pc version of cv, and I thought it was pretty bad...
but I have no words to describe the amiga port. no words at all.
Arasoi

I suppose the PC and Commodore versions are pretty bad, compared to the NES ones. But I find them quite playable, the SID and Adlib adaptations of the music are pretty decent, and if you can get used to the control tweaks its pretty solid.
The Amiga version is just one of those games that is an abomination, its practically unplayable, unlikable in every possible way.

Why is Castlevania for Amiga commend so high...like you said it's not good
Arasoi
05-24-2007, 11:42 AM
Simply due to it's rarity, as far as I know. From talking to some European collectors, it apparently had a larger production run here in America, and even that was pretty small. Odd, considering the Amiga's higher popularity in Europe.
Either way it's not something your average fan would want, unless they were a masochist or something..

I didn't knew there's a Castlevania topic around here, found it by a Link to the E3 SotN thread. Very nice pictures and Information in here! And nice to see other Castlevania interested people like protogem or dreamchaser around here.
I'm just another Castlevania collector. The series is just the best one out there for me.
For those who are interested, here's a link to my collection:

It will never reach the collection of protogem/Arasoi, but i just like collecting stuff of that series. even though this can be damn expensive. i think protogem knows it best ;)

Never say never, it wasn’t that long ago my collection was similar to yours in content and item number. Lately I've been eating humble pie seeing some of the other collectors accomplishments out there (Sasalucard, "JPCVFAN"(not his real name, but he wont give it out), etc)
Also, nice collection. As I said on the other boards, that PAL SOTN Sampler is sweet.
I'll have my own interesting new additions to show soon..

I liked its areas a bit more, but too much running around overall killed it for me. I think my favorite part was hearing little bits of Vampire Killer in the Aqueduct music theme..

Good buy, Mania. HOD is an underrated game in some respects, fun if you can set aside its inadequacies. And AOS is just a good game, period. (And yes, I do have that one)

I also thought HOD was underrated. After I played all of the portable Castlevanias, I started reading reviews, and it seems that HOD is universally acknowledged as the worst GBA game. I think I actually enjoyed it more than CotM. The castle layout isn't as linear in HOD, and I had more fun exploring and getting lost.
Very nice looking collection, retro. Maybe you don't think it's impressive compared to some, but it is to me, and certainly compared to most people.

If any collectors are reading, this is a rare and cool item. I own all three of them, but even one of these PAL SOTN promo banners is tough to find these days, and this one looks to be in pretty good condition.
I'll see about photoing + posting some of my new collection items this week sometime.
I'm new here. Decided to join the forum after I saw this place in a Finnish Castlevania forum. I feel kind of alien because I don't think too many girls collect Castlevania stuff.
I gotta congratulate Arasoi because of his great collection. It's jawdropping and I'm nowhere even near 1/8 of the people here. At least I think since I started collecting a week ago. Got the last console I wanted (which was the nes, icredibly painful to find here for a reasonable price I paid 114$ for it and castlevania 1 (L)) and I finally get to focus on castlevania stuff.
My humble collection in no particular order (and a vain attempt to keep this thread alive):
-Castlevania 1 (L,PAL)
-Castlevania 64 (CiB,PAL)
-Portrait of Ruin bonus pack (without the game)
-Lament of Innocence limited (CiB,JPN)
-Symphony of the Night limited (NM,PAL)
-Symphony of the night saturn (NM,JPN)
-Castlevania Chronicles (CiB,PAL)
-Dawn of Sorrow (M,PAL)
-Lament of Innocence promo poster (JPN)
-Lament of Innocence limited music sampler
-CoD Poster (not promo or anything)
I'm trying to snag that promo poster Arasoi linked but shipping alone costs 35$ so I might give it up. I'm a jobless student and get money only on birthdays and such anyway. Buy pretty pictures from me XD;.

For anyone who hasn't been keeping track (http://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php/topic,3663.0.html), the Italian translation of Gekka no Yasoukyoku / Nocturne in the Moonlight / Japanese version of Symphony of the Night has been released (http://www.romhacking.net/trans/1171/) and the English translation is being tested right now. It looks to be of extremely high quality, so if you're tired of having to swap discs to finish the slightly-broken E3 Demo then you might find some enjoyment in the translation once it rolls out.

Excellent news, a shame it isn't the Saturn port (despite its gameplay/slowdown/dithering issues) but I have been pining for a clean "sub" of SOTN with Japanese voices for quite some time.

Always nice to have another collector. I think you're the third girl I know of who does collect CV stuff semi/seriously. Its surprising considering the rather effeminate look of Kojima's artwork. Good to see you have some of the "classic" games as well (CV1, Chronicles)

And I always tought girls would like Kojima's artwork XD. She's the one I look up to and has been inspiring to me as an artist. That's the reason I really got into castlevania stuff. Of course I've always loved the series ever since I was little but when AoS came out and my friend got it I constantly had it with me.
And of course I have some classic games. I would have already gotten CV2,3 and 4 if it were not for the very limited availability for the boxed PAL versions (very scarcely you might find ones with the manual, but especially boxed are very rare). I saw a CV3 complete one day on ebay but I just wanted to faint at the price. Even if it doesn't come near what symphony cost me. I saw rondo the other day on ebay too but I wasn't sure about the condition because of how the lighting reflected off the case and the pic was very small. I just might pre-order all the neca figures next. all 4 sealed costs only 60 dollars or so anyway.

If you have time, you may wish to visit some of the French Castlevania forums as well. A few of the collectors on there, such as Sasalucard and Guillame have larger collections than myself. (many magazines, books, smaller items for larger item count, etc).
I started out collecting games and shunned the smaller items for a long time, only recently started getting magazines and smaller promo items. (Im hooked on guides and posters now to a certain extent)
It's funny how people in europe can have larger collections than the u.s. collectors. Of course there's been all kinds of things produced and several gaming mags have articles about the series (if I could own every mag that came out in Finland that had a castlevania article,I'd have a BIG bin of mags. I think I have one with AoS review or something.pretty lame XD). I'm a fan of promo items maybe even more than the games themselves. I'm a fan of nifty and hard to find items like the CoD letter opener and such. It's just hard to keep track on what is a promo item, what came with pre-orders or limited edition packs. If I could have a list of where things came from I'd seriously be the happiest girl on earth.

Don't ask me why, but I think Sasalucard is the world's biggest Castlevania collector.

I didn't get too far in order of shadows (you can play a demo on konami mobile), but it seems to control somewhat faithfully to the original games. Dunno how good it'll be, but I'm vaguely optimistic.
A small heads-up to people; the latest PSP booklet has a picture of Dracula X Chronicles on the last page, which nominally qualifies it as CV swag. Better pick up a copy (it's free, after all; you can't beat that).

Omg all this ultra rare stuff :frustrated:
What are those boxes on the top? Is one of them the t-shirt one?
Arasoi
08-29-2007, 12:00 PM
The boxes are for the card set, the frame nests in bubble wrap inside the white box its sitting in (there are two halves) which goes into the black cardboard slip, which then fits back into the white box.
That sounds more complicated than it really is.. oh well.

Very very very very very nice magazine.
I wonder how you found it! Because on my side, I did not even see it!
Arasoi

The cover of it is certainly very nice, but the inside of the magazine is not quite what I expected.. a lot of weird poorly drawn comics (some "inappropriate") and short articles.
On the bright side, the cover is sweet. Basically why I got it.. at 800 yen or so it wasnt a terrible deal.
Sweet stuff. I just got most of the items I ordered in the mail though I'm still waiting for Symphony for saturn. Too bad I don't have that much money left for the rest of the year. Body modification costs too damn much and I'm getting more holes in my body for a change. Maybe a few nice microdermal implants even (and suddenly the whole thing is off-topic. I'm the queen of off-topic).

The Saturn version can be pretty interesting, if you dont mind its many flaws (stretched resolution, slowdown, load times, dithering, new areas that dont look right, etc)
One would hope the upcoming PSP remake of SOTN would make the Saturn version "obsolete" by adding Maria into the PSX version, but it wont be the same for me without it being on a TV screen proper. The upcoming PSP model has TV out capabilities, but Im somewhat reluctant to get a 16x9 TV screen to get the aspect ratio to look close to right with it. (image stretching would bother me) From what I hear it just has borders on the sides anyway, but the output modes of the PSP may not support getting the SOTN portion of the screen centered on a regular 4x3.

I picked up an oddball Castlevania item today. While cleaning out the backroom I found the promo case art for Curse of Darkness for the Xbox. Has the "rating pending" thing instead of the regular rating, normal front, early screenshots from the game on the back along with a synopsis of the game and a reminder to "preorder now". Figured what the hell and brought two of them home. They were going into the trash anyways.

The reason I got saturn while primarily focusing on getting the eu games was all the extras. I'm with you on the SOTN for psp. I have problems with my own widescreen tv. And imagine playing on psp, a rather small screen and even more when the game should look porpotional. I'm used to playing on handhelds but as a personal opinion the graphics look much more enjoyable on tv. I'm such an art fag though it may just be me.

It should be good. I hope. It's still just pencil and doesn't look that good because I only spent like,75 mins on the sketch.
But here's a few wip shots of the style (taken with a cameraphone so the quality isn't too great). Just the basic composition.

this will be done fully emulating mucha's style since it's for a schoolproject and doesn't look that great without the colors making the shapes. The face needs a little work (smaller eyes, nose and lips should be higher).

I might do both. What do you guys think, which would be better? Green would go with the basics of art nouveau style (green and brown being very common colors in the style) but black would look more natural. If I go for the game look I might tweak the color a little because art nouveau is usually just flat colors (especially hair). But as close as I can without it looking tacky/off.

The E3 SOTN demo went for $3700, betas and magazine copies can fetch a high price depending on if any content is different from the final release. The seller of the E3 SOTN Beta could provide better information than I. I think he has posted in this thread some, though dont ask me how many pages back =)
On another note, the Japanese are getting a nice pre order pack for the release of DXC in November. Play Asia is accepting preorders for the LE packs now.

Great googly moogly! $90!
Thanks for the link!
I wonder how much a DXC PSP UMD would go for now...
You know what I really hate. Time zones and people who bid high just for the heck of it, even if the value of the game is definitely lower.
I was just about to grab symphony of the night music sampler but I just can't stay up until 2am because I already have to take sleeping meds for my problems. I wish someone could bid it for me but nobody I know uses ebay.
Also,I was about to grab the LoI special edition but someone bid 40e already and I know it's going to cost a fortune, money I don't have right now. My boyfriend got the european version of CoD music sampler for me though and it was a steal. I've seen someone try to sell the american version in german ebay for 60e.
People who bid high really get on my nerves. If someone buys a game for a high price even though it's not that valuable and rare, every other listing of the game has at least rare in the description and the price goes up and up and up, leaving poor people like me without fairly common games.
Oh the wonders of penniless student life.

And just my luck...they don't ship to the EU.
If anyone would be kind enough to get me one when ordering a pre-order pack and send it to me, I'd be grateful. I'd pay it as soon as the payment rolls for the game and shipping to Finland (or earlier if needed, though the game is charged when they start shipping).

Overpaying is apparently a recent trend. Luxkiller would talk your ear off about it =)
I only do it if I really want the item, or if its especially rare, with the occasional mistake on a common item. Lately I've been cutting back at any rate.

I'm actually so pissed about overpaying, I'm holding a rant for my speech assignment about it. Usually when I want an item and don't know the rarity I sometimes and up overpaying, but at least I usually know when to back off. Usually I pay for rarities with an arm and leg. I just have the gut feeling I'm going to overpay for the DXC LE pack later...stupid shipping.

Speaking of overpaying, a few weeks (week) back there was a link here to the HTF Alucard poster from the UK from Symphony. I have seen sets of these regularly sell for 100-125 dollars (US dollars). JUST Alucard went for like 76 bucks. I wanted it, not for that price. Patience is a virtue and it saves you ALOT of money in collecting, trust me.

Holy cow! I got my complete set for under $130..
I guess thats considered an uber rare item, even by itself.
I was following that auction too and even I think it's ridiculous. I wanted the poster badly but I'm not going to spend 106 bucks (I included shipping) on one poster when custom frames and all need to be bought.
Won the SOTN music sampler. Boyfriend stayed up for me. It was a steal,at just 21.50+sh.

People who bid high really get on my nerves.
Wicked. That's why so many people get on my nerves, even if I like them a lot.
Ever heard of Arasoi? Oh my, here you are my dear sweety!

You the master of overpaying! But you seemed quite calm and sleepy these last months...

Super collector Luxie, are you going to get the DXC Japanese promo pack?

I would, if Sony allowed Play-Asia to ship to the best continent out there. But they suck balls so I'll have to find another way to get it! Screw Sony and Konami. Screw everybody actually.
And don't make fun out of me!

Your resourcefulness will net you the goodies for sure. I dont even know where you find half of the neat things you get.
I just pre-ordered the 4 NECA CV figures here:
http://www.amazingtoyz.com/castle.html
Under $50 for all 4, not too bad!

I just picked up a Castlevania: SOTN standing cardboard cutout, its pretty freakin' sweet lookin'. Once I get a new digital camera (mine stopped working about two months ago) I'll post a picture of it here.

That sounds interesting. Is it similar to the big SOTN display boxes from back in the day?
