    Default Capcom No Longer Making Console Exclusive Titles

    I realize that this was inevitable and that Capcom is simply the first major publisher(of the current ones still making limited exclusives)to put it in writing, but it still bears repeating. So from here on out, no more console exclusives: http://www.gamepro.com/article/news/...s-says-capcom/

    Eagle eye readers(or those that actually pay attention to details) will notice that in the article it actually says they will no longer publish "major titles" as console exclusives. At first I figured this meant that they would make DS or PSP specific titles that they wouldn't port to consoles. Then I started to think maybe this would apply to certain compilations they release. But I hope it's the former and not the latter because I'd hate to think that a certain console(or consoles) would have to miss out on a specific compilation just because Capcom doesn't view it as a major release.

    I interpret this article like this:

    The market is not friendly to third parties right not. To save dev costs, a company cannot rely on a an exclusive to one system anymore. I know that EA and others have stated that the market is pretty unfriendly to third parties right now. With competition heating up, a company cannot fail on a big budget title and be financially sound anymore. Either a company puts all their eggs into some high end games and port to all systems, or a company makes budget titles that cost less to make, but make less money. This is partly why the shovelware on the Wii is so bad right now.

    It's a smart move on their end. More cost effective and less time consuming to make the same game for two systems than producing two different games for two different systems.

    Can't help but wonder how Sony, MS, and Nintendo react to Capcom's new endeavor? As console companies are not the type to share with others without receiving something "majorly" special for them once in a while.

    No more exclusives? Does this mean the Wii will be getting more ports from the xbox 360 and ps3? Or does this mean games will be on xbox 360 and ps3 and let's forget about the wii?

    Here are the Capcom games from this Gen that I can name:

    * Bionic Commando Rearmed (PS3/360)
    * Dark Void (PS3/360)
    * Dead Rising (360/Wii)
    * Devil May Cry 4 (PS3/360)
    * Lost Planet (PS3/360)
    * Resident Evil 5 (PS3/360)
    * Street Fighter IV (PS3/360)
    * Resident Evil 4 (PS2/GC/Wii)
    * Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure (Wii)
    * Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles (Wii)
    * Okami (PS2 / Wii)
    * We Love Golf! (Wii)
    * Resident Evil Zero (GC/Wii)
    * Spyborgs (Wii)
    * Monster Hunter 3 (Wii)

    They're pretty much made for one or the other (and by that I mean Wii or not Wii) aren't they?

    I personally think you'll see titles go both ways. Stuff like Zach & Wiki might be ported to the PS360 to avoid poor sales (I just read that it eventually sold 300,000 copies, but it took quite some time to get there). And stuff like DMC4 will likely make it's way to the Wii (to take advantage of the installed base).

    Somebody already nailed it on the head though - it makes business sense to spend three as much time making a DMC4 for 3 machines, rather than spending the same amount of time on three different games that are targetted towards the appropriate market. That's too risky.

    Default Let's see...

    It has been said as a general rule that a current gen system needs to sell 500,000 copies to be worthwhile (on average). There are something like 50 million current gen consoles out there, as opposed to nearly 200 million last gen consoles...so it is tougher to make money, so far.

    What irks me is my own paranoid suspicion that the software developers and distributors are trying to force hardware manufacturers to standardize their hardware. I believe the leaders of these companies who are preoccupied with the bottom line and not games as games wish to force standardization among hardware rather than three systems and PC's.

    I think so. Mainly because I'm 100% convinced Resident Evil 5 will eventually make its way (in some form) to the Wii.

    not really a surprise, since it's kinda been the unwritten rule of this generation anyway, a few exceptions notwithstanding.

    this sucks but i am suprised it took them this long especially after what they pulled with Killer 7, Viewtiful Joe, Okami and RE4.

    The bad part about this is that instead of making games that cater to consoles strengths its going ot lead togames feeling less poloshed all around no matter which console its played on.
