Laser is likely shot. Possible that a cable has simply come loose from somewhere, though. You can take it apart and check without too much trouble. While you have it open, you can clean the lens w/ a q-tip with a small amount of alcohol on it. There is a second, larger lens or mirror underneath that can also get dirty, but that is harder to get to. Next step is to get a multimeter and adjust the potentiometers, usually only temporary fix, though. Replace the laser assembly is next, but that's no longer worth the effort given how cheap a ps2 is now. Some easy searching and you can find guides for all this, then you can judge if you want to try any of it or not.
Forgot to ask to start off with... Do CD discs spin (purple game discs)? PS1? DVDs?
PS2 - PS2 Sony 8MB Memory Card two pack (new) ($19.98)
I hit up the thrift mall near me. Found a couple of those Lucasarts Archives sets. Both were Star Wars Volume II, but one was PC the other Mac. Both were complete with all the little papers and everything inside. $3 each. Pics to come when I get home and to my camera.

Walked into a Gamestop today just killing time and found virtually nothing as usual. So I checked the Gameboy case on the way out and found:
Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening DX
Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages
Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins
Each was marked at $9.99, but each rang up $1.50. So, just under $5 including tax for three nice games, all in great shape with perfect labels.
A question about the Super Mario Land, as it has a different product number on it that isn't in the database, plus lots of Asian characters on it (Chinese, I'm guessing). Here it is:

Thanks to an inside tip from my buddy Carlcarlson I was able to snag these all from Best Buy for a penny each. From the long list of guides the only one I wanted that wasn't there was Ninja Gaiden 2. I left the rest, although not all from the list were there.

The place I went today had the proverbial butt-load of Atari compatible joysticks, most were familiar but two I'd never seen before, one of which I bought. It looks like a Gemini Gemstick, but it says 'ACE' at the top of the stick, and it has the most insanely deep fire button I've ever seen in all my years of video game collecting. I don't know who designed this, but that fire button makes this thing totally impractical when you have to push the button nearly three quarters of the way inside the joystick's casing to fire. Anyway, for a novelty, I bought it for $1.91. I also picked up a Famiclone cartridge, a Power-Joy PC-008 multicart. Someone mentioned it in another thread, so I thought I'd pick it up. $1.91. I also picked up a DVD of the movie Drop Dead Fred (Phoebe Cates! ) for 99¢ and a Toytronic brand electronic LED football handheld from the late '70s or early '80s. $1.48 for that one.

Well since I've recently gotten a Sega CD hooked up and running, I've been itching to play a few games. I have "My Paint," but it's not really much of a game. I know of a local pawn shop that has a slowly dwindling supply of the games, but up until recently I haven't really had a need for them.
At the pawn shop, I found two empty game cases. One was Terminator and the other was Rise of the Dragon. I really wanted to play Rise, but since it was minus the disc, I was a little bummed. Well I decided, to browse their CD spinner of various computer software, and to my surprise I found the disc for Rise of the Dragon. I asked how much they wanted, and I walked away with it for $3 CIB.
Found Pikmin 2 at my local Gamestation for £12. Be meaning to buy it for a while, it always seems to go for around £30-40 on ebay/amazon so some slight bargainage.
Found a few things at a game store today. They were having a sale, fairly random, up to 50% off most stuff.
Lot of sports games - mostly for the cases - $2 for the lot
Slam Jam '96 (complete) - 50 cents
Jupiter Strike (complete) - $4
Jammit (complete) - 50 cents
Dai Senryaku (complete) - $5
Floigan bros. (complete) - $5
Cosmic Carnage (loose) - $3
Not great, but fun.

Yesterday's Goodwill visit was good, I've been a bit broke for a long time so I passed up on several games
I got:
Justice League Task Force SNES Boxed no manual 2.99
TMNT Hyperstone Heist, Genesis no manual $3.99
Virtual On, Saturn, complete 2.99
Today at another thrift, PGA Tour 96 for PS1 complete longbox for only .66
If they made a movie out of your top five worst sins, what would it be rated?
Check out my list of trades on GameTZ Link
Sorry for the poor pic quality, I don't have a good camera right here.
Went to Bookman's for an import PS2 game to test my swap magic discs with, none of the ones they had interested me, but this was the cheapest so I grabbed it. Have wanted to play castle shikigama 2 and for 5 bucks not bad.
Virtua Fighter 10th Anniversary - (J, complete) - $6
Castle Shikigami 2 (complete) - $5
Got from someone on here for about $4.50.
Dance Dance Revolution (J, complete but no spine card)
Last week (after 2 goodwills, a salvation army, and 2 horrible game stores) this is what i overpaid for
The goodwill games are marked
Soviet and Nuclear Strike were $7, Duke Nukem was free
And Twisted Metal was $10 (the disc is the black label version though)
Todays stuff
Fire Pro Wrestling was $10 at K-Mart
The Genesis games were between $4 and $8
And Snakes Revenge was $4
This one was $8, and if the trend of selling for around $100 continues, I'd love to get rid of it
So...
I was working at a long time client, a small video store I basically maintain on the side. The business was recently bought from the old guy who owned it by a young (rather cute) lady. While working on their systems, I spotted a bunch of games on their used rack.
$5 each or 10 for $25.
Yes, really.
I told her I'd buy out the store of what they had but offered to trade two hours of labour for the stock instead.
This is what I got:
Not bad for two hours of work - 177 games with instructions all re-shrinkwrapped. And they'll resurface free any I have a problem with
