Default Is it safe to use credit/debit cards on the playstation network now?

Hi, there’s something I want to buy for my ps3 on the PlayStation network. It cost $3.00 and I’m not really into add on content or downloading games so it doesn’t make sense for me to buy the $20.00 p.s.n. card when I won’t need most of it. I know the psn had alot of troubles before but they seem to have died down. Is it reasonably safe to give them your credit or debit card number?

I have used mine with Nintendo a few times with no problems. Thanks.

There's an option to clear credit card information under account information. Just make sure to go there and clear it because whenever going to the PSN without a credit card on file it automatically updates and adds the card.
Everything in the above post is opinion unless stated otherwise.

Personally, I wouldn't. Just because you tell it not to save the card information doesn't mean you're safe. I have a hard time trusting Microsoft or Sony with my credit card with all of the problems they've had with security anymore.

Or.....use green paper cash to buy a Playstation Points card. They're everywhere...even Walgreens.

Check with your CC company to see if they do temporary or one-time use numbers for 'safe online purchases'. I know Discover has this, and another card I have (or had) used to do it as well. That's how I've done my PSN purchases.

Yep.. they're basically VIRTUAL credit card numbers Can only be used once. Citi cards has this feature and I don't understand why more people don't use this option, or at least get a card that includes it.

Once you know and use it, all concerns about stolen numbers would disappear

I've never trusted Sony so I only use the point cards you can buy anywhere.

I've gone this route since the incident in 2011, no point in going through a potential hassle when its so easy.

That said I'm sure its safe.

I wouldn't use your credit card. I took mine off PSN after it got attacked. Just use a Playstation Store card, they're only $20. Even if you only use a few bucks right away, you'll have some in your wallet for a rainy day.

I'd use PSN cash cards. If you're going to use a credit card, clear the info after putting it in.
    In Heaven, everything is fine.

I am still afraid after what happened to my Visa, I would suggest using your debit/credit card or some good ol cash to grab PSN cards like everyone is saying... but it is possible the security breach will never EVER happen again, but also the opposite is possible.

Another option is to see if your bank/credit union offers protected charges. When I charge something on my bankcard, I get an automated phone call before the charge is actually applied to make sure that I'm actually authorizing it. If I say no, my card is locked down until I call the help line. Perfect way to deal with stolen credit information.
