I'm in, especially since I just got my dedicated MAME setup rolling.
SO what is everyone playing regularly? Over and over again?
I play
Golden Axe
ESWAT
Hammering Harry
Rally Bike
Ninja Kid 2
Crime Fighters 2
At least once a week for a very long time.
If you want a obscure GEM I recommend Penguin Brothers there is nothing like it I think it's the best fixed platform game and it even has a VS mode if only it were 4 players and had a stage creator or something it would last forever.
Go, go Ackman!
Well so far we have about 12 people which is a good start. I think if we get this going smoothly other people will join.
Here's the list so far of people who said there in, in the order they posted.
Cryomancer
RadiantSvgun
Damaramu
Norkusa
Icarus Moonsight
Flack
Scooterb23
Diskoboy? (didn't exactly say if he's in or not)
InsaneDave
IronBuddha
Lady Jaye
Captain Wrong
Ackman (didn't exactly say either)
I don't know how it worked last time, I wasn't here. But I'll help update the list if needed.
Hey guys, I actually took the liberty (gulp) of reviving the MAME Club idea a couple months ago:

Take a look and tell me what you think...
Cryomancer has convinced me to dig out my old templates and help get the ball rolling again. Basically the way it worked was like this: games were posted on Monday morning, and ran for a week. Anyone who played the game and responded got added to "the list." Originally we went through the list in order that people joined but the problem was the list got so long that it was going to take two years to get to everybody. Eventually what we started going was, I would randomly select a person to choose next week's game from the people who played the week before.
The new posts will be sticked here each week. Since we're still getting into the swing of things I think will keep Avenging Spirit one more week. Let's roll!
Take this shit elsewhere.
my thoughts on AS
Nice graphics, decent game but in the long run doesn't win me over. 5/10
Now I nominate Penguin Brothers for next week.
Go, go Ackman!
I talked about it in one of my earlier posts, here it is again: http://kevlargibs.net/cryomancer/Custom.ini
Basically if you use MameUI (and i assume other GUI versions could use it too), this will give you a category full of all the previous Mame Club games:
Eh, I played this a long time ago on Raine and I think it was called "Phantasm."
The whole ghost thing, and the longevity of it. -4/10.
I recommend Violent Storm for one of the titles. Its a little known title in the crime fighters series. VERY 90's-ish. I love it.
I also recommend DJ boy.

Go, go Ackman!
Yeah... But I like it. If you guys decide you want to do that as one of titles, heres one of the BGMs from the game.

I'm in the middle of a move and haven't been able to DL/play the game yet, but I just wanted to chime in to say that I fully support the return of the MAME Club. I used to love it before and I'm glad it's back now.
Though I've always wondered: How come it ended in the first place? Flack?

OK, played it a little today. Whew, definitely has the feel of that time, doesn't it? For me, the first thing that stuck out was the large character sprites and the bright colors. Still a cartoony look, but, graphics are getting better.
As for the play, it kind of feels like a beat 'em up and a platformer, in a way. Most of the characters have a weapon though, but you are still essentially walking around, fighting hordes of identical bad guys (and gals.) Kind of monotonous after a while and I felt like some of the enemy spawns were cheap. You'd need to play this a few times and get a feel for where people pop up.
I thought the possession aspect was the best part of the game. However, I wanted to be able to change characters at will rather than waiting for them to die off. Some of the characters were pretty lame. Any close combat character was practically useless as were the chick throwing snowballs and the bomber guy. Still, points for trying some variety there.
And how about that generic, vaguely oriental music?
Anyway, not really my bag. A little too slow and monotonous for my tastes. And I felt the best idea in the game, the ability to posess enemies, was kind of underdeveloped.
I assume it was due to interest declining.
And the above comment about the music, I sort of agree about it being pretty generic. And I swear the sound effects in this game are used in some other games and I can't recall which offhand. Perhaps one of those pirate porn games.
So Cryomancer, whats the title for this week?

Since people were just catching up, we were going to let this one run an extra week. We'll be putting a new title up this coming Monday.
So...it's Monday. I believe that means it's time for a game!
