Default New Castlevania Game Coming to 360 and PS3

Well the Wii is getting their own Castlevania so it's only fair that the 360 and PS3 get one too: http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/ne...g-ps3xbox-360/

Not much is known about this title yet, but I'm hoping for a 2D installment. I know that isn't very likely based on the power of the machines(basically meaning they want to show off more than 2D graphics) but thats what I'm hoping for. What I'm not hoping for is a fighting game or anything that resembles the N64 Castlevania's.

Exactly what I was thinking. This is one series that just doesn't translate well to 3-D. I'd actually hope for a SoTN-scale game in 2.5D, ideally.

With the success of SOTN-type games, Konami has been lazy with its Castlevania franchise. The ones on the DS and PS2 are basically clones of Symphony of the Night without the charm the series once held. Oh how I yearn for one just like in the NES days.

Hey swlovinist, why not have a 2D castlevania on the wii too. I would think a game like that should also be on a system that gave the franchise its first break.

You would think that a Castlevania Greatest hits would be a no brainer. Mario has had one, Zelda has had one, Mega Man has had one, Now where is my Castlevania All Stars?

Castlevania V - ala Mega Man 9. What would really toot my horn is if they did up an NES style game with a heavy Castlevania 3 vibe. Or even a Metroid-vania with NES Castlevania style.

3D Castlevania does not bode well. Curse of Darkness was OK, and that was the best 3D one so far. I'll buy a copy no matter what I suppose, but if it's 3D then I'm not paying more than $20 for a Sits-on-the-shelf-dust-collector item. If it turns out good then I'll just have to see it to believe it. Besides, Capcom has already beat them in the 3D Action Horror arena through Devil May Cry. Second year of the PS2 to boot.

I know I'm in the minority, but if they make a game similar to Lament of Innocence (i.e. 3D with a whip), I'll be ecstatic.
RIP bargora, you will be greatly missed. That is how we do things on Giedion Prime.

If they'd just make a direct 2D sequel to Symthony of the Night we'd all be happy. Well, most of us would. As for a "good" 3D Castlevania, as Icarus has mentioned, Capcom already made it and it's called Devil May Cry.

I loved LoI and Curse of Darkness, so if they can make it similar to CoDarkness but even better, I will be very happy. I Would love it even more if they did what Capcom did with Mega Man, and even happier if they made a sequel to SotN in 2D or 2.5D. With a new 2D CV comming out for the DS though, I'd probably expect it to be a 3d game. I wouldn't mind a 3D remake of one of the 2D games. Nobody really does that and its definately do-able.

I agree. They should just toss out this Soma Cruz dude and go back to the Rondo Series. Where the hell is Alucard, dammit?

Hey Soma needs love too lol. Anyways I'd love it if they give the Metroidvania formula a break and do something similar to Rondo of Blood. On the other hand I did enjoy Legacy of Darkness as far as what I've played, so a 3D Castlevania is still a possiblity. Though the platform change likely leads towards a 3D iteration, and if Judgement is any indication IGA is willing to take risks with the franchise.

I'm guessing that I am one of the few that liked Legacy Castlevania 64 (aka Legacy of Darkness), it's the best 3D attempt so far and I absolutely loved it when it first came out. The two for PS2 were just meh and I've barely even played the ones for DS, despite me owning both.

Hopefully this new one will be a step forward and bring some pride back into the series.

Konami really needs to just hand the series (at least the 3D rights) over to Capcom, I'm sure they could make a lot of gamers happy.

Now that is a great idea. Back in the day Nintendo gave Capcom the honor of making two new games with it's legendary Zelda series and the end result was Legend of Zelda: Age of Oracles and Age of Seasons. Those were two great games made by a company that didn't creat the series. And I think Capcom could do the same thing for the Castlevania series if Konami let them make a 3D version.

And why not? I mean, didn't Konami just let an American team make a Silent Hill game? I think letting Capcom do their thing would be a great move for this series if they truely want a "great" 3D installment. Good call chicnstu.

Oobgarm, you and me...that makes three.

LoI was a good game, it had atmosphere, the exploration factor was there, and the boss fights were strategic and impressive. The obtained weapons were put to good use, an essential part of a good action adventure game.

The game showed the way for a good game on the new platforms. Granted, the first Devil May Cry was what Castlevania should have been, but by no means LoI was a poor effort.

Metroid for the GC showed that the spirit of a great 2D series can be transferred to a 3D world. As much as I love 2D gaming and would enjoy much a new Castlevania a la Mega Man 9, I'm looking more forward to a new 3D Castlevania. The former is great but stagnant, the latter could be innovative.

Your wish, good sir, is apparently IGA's command.

    Behold!

According to the boys at 1UP, IGA has been pitching two 'dream projects' to Konami for a long long time. One of them is the sequel to Symphony of the Night in the vein of the 3D Zelda games. The other is a high-res 2D traditional SotN style platformer. I'll bet you ten bucks we're stuck with the 3D one.

Part of the problem with the 3D Castlevania games so far is that they didn't have the budget or schedule that better 3D games had(Devil May Cry, for example). The core mechanics were good, they just lacked polish. Konami seems to be pushing the Castlevania franchise a bit more than they have been, though, so hopefully they'll give the developers the time and money to make it right. I doubt they will, though. Konami has been pretty lame this generation so far, MGS4 not withstanding.

At least Order of Ecclesia looks good, huh?

Make it four. What I played of CoD on the Xbox convinced me not to buy the PS2 version, but I liked LoI enough to play through it to the end, then go back and play through it again. Can't say I cared for all the hidden junk, though.

Where's a classic "old school vampire killing jam" when we need one?

Anyway, what with the Wii game being a fighting game (I'm still puzzling over that one), I'm betting on the PS3/360 game being a racing game, puzzle game, sports game, or dating sim. Anything that's not what Castlevania is supposed to be.

So what do you think? Taking all bets!
