I agree and add Gamecube to the list.

I disagree, especially with the Playstation 2. Considering they're still in production, still selling well, and games continue to be developed and released for it (Including some higher profile releases like Motorstorm Arctic Edge), it's still alive and kicking.

Just because something doesn't belong to the latest generation doesn't make it classic, especially a console that's still very much a viable platform commercially.

Yeah. PS2, XBOX, and Gamecube don't seem "classic" to me. They're the last generation of consoles and the PS2 has yet to die out. I think wait until the next console generation until pushing the XBOX, GC, and PS2 to the Classic Gaming section. I only think Dreamcast deserves to be in the Classic Gaming section as it was so short lived in the US and it was easily the best system for the short time it was out and died quite awhile ago.

Gamecube and Xbox have been out of production since atleast 2007 for GCN and 2006 for XBX. That's my estimate.

Nope, Xbox and PS2 are from the Romantic period, they will not be moved to Classical.

Some of us believe that anything post-crash belongs here in Modern Gaming...

On a serious note, Gamecube/Playstation 2/Xbox is NOT classic yet, not by a long shot. I wouldn't consider them classic until the Wii/360/PS3 Generation gets phased out, and that won't be for another 4-5 years at least IMO.

GC and Xbox died long ago, PS2 is in it's last year... I think it's time to move on. Maybe we could have a tween section for the die hards?? It just doesn't seem relevant here on modern gaming, there is nothing modern about those 3 systems.

    I disagree:

PS2 games are still being made
Gamecube games can be played on Wii, and the Gamecube controller can be used on some Wii games.
Xbox games can be played on Xbox 360.

Klax is like the Jell-O of videogames. There's always room for it.

The closest usage of the word classic in the context we utilize it means "having lasting significance or worth; enduring."

How can you detirmine that when two of the consoles are barely cold and used copies of their games, accessories, and hardware litter used game stores across the country, and the third is still a ongoing concern at present for many (Or has just recently been left behind by others) and appears as if it has some life left in it?

Like it or not, but that generation is still a ongoing concern for many gamers across the country, still is being widely sold used and new, and at least one of the platforms still has significant development occurring for it and millions of consoles sold just in 2009.

I think we utilize the term classic to signify more than just that production of consoles and games for it has ceased. It means the system has ceased to be a ongoing concern for the vast majority of former users for it, and is something people will start to look back on with fondness.

It isn't a term that describes a console that is still on store shelfs being sold new at every retailer that sells videogames.

Here's another reason why the PS2 shouldn't be sent to Classic Gaming.

Technically the system is newer than the 360, PS3, and Wii. It was just officially launched in Brazil a week ago.
